Blood. He was not so sheltered Doron had never seen blood... but never had he seen blood intentionally drawn from something alive that he knew could be food while still alive. An odd look came to his eyes and he growled silently, almost merely a vibration through his body than an actual sound. Then he lunged at the other rabbit, sharp canines piercing the creatures flesh near its hind leg & breaking the shoulder there. The rabbit made a noise and floundered, unable to run or jump.
Doron started at the sound, eyes going wide. It hurt! Panic struck him. "Chastity! It's hurting! What do !...?" But he did not finish, one of his sleep attacks finding him. Odd how it looked nothing like fainting. No eyes rolling back no swaying, simply falling asleep and crashing.
The injured rabbit, chased out of its mind, injured & unable to run saw the large falling shape and had a heart attack even before the male kitsu hit the ground.
In his dream, Doron hoped Chastity was able to get her rabbit.

Chastity was again surprised by this sleep attack, but she was more intent on the prey at hand. She quickly killed the rabbit she had wounded and carried it over to the other one that had died of shock. It didn't matter to her how they died, they were still dead and both at this point, were bleeding nicely. She hoped he would wake up soon, once the flesh got cold it wasn't very tasty.

It was the hunger that woke him. A low rumble in his belly, heightened by the smell of blood so close to his nostrils. Bright blue eyes opened and Doron licked his chops, looking rested even from that few minutes' nap though not drowsy.
He sat up with a grin, then remembering the state of the rabbit blinked and nudged it with his nose. Dead! He started to smile then saw the other one. Dead too! Swirl patterned tails thudded upon the ground behind him as he felt his mouth salivate. He had never eaten raw meat before. Never killed anything either. Doron opened his mouth to ask how to eat the rabbits then stopped as he licked blood from his maw and his stomach rumbled a bit louder this time. His head turned to the rabbit again... ready to bite...
Then he stopped, pausing to throw a cheerful smile at his companion. "Ladies first, Chastity?" His tails wagged happily behind him.

Chastity grinned and did a mock bow, barely tilting her head to insinuate the bow. "Why thank you."
She leaned down and crunched into the thigh of the bunny closest to her. It was the good tender meat. It had recently been worked hard and was so soft to her teeth. What a treat! She hoped that Doron enjoyed it as much as she did.

At the crunch Doron drooled and with an almost wild look in his eyes turned ravenously upon the other bunny. He bit, blinking in surprise as he felt the blood squirt into his mouth. It was ...different. Licking his lips he ripped away a strip of flesh, awkwardly trying to work around the fur that felt funny and tickled and left off sensations in his mouth. He spat some fur out, sputtering a bit as it stuck to his mouth. Fur... Doron decided was not tasty.
Now the meat.... Bright blue eyes rolled back before closing, a pleased sound rumbling from the male. His tails flicked and wagged behind him. He had never had anything like it. Warm, tender, but none of those 'cooked' tastes. Not that those tastes were bad but this was so good.

"Welcome to what we are meant to do." Chastity said with relish, using her claws to strip away the fur on her own rabbit while crunching on the bones to get the best part out; the marrow.
The meal was better than any she had been able to catch in a long while. It was even better because she had a dinner companion, so to speak. Doron looked incredibly happy eating the fresh meat rather than something cooked. She had never had that, but it seemed a waste of the juices.

Doron opened his eyes any looked at her in confusion. Chewing his bite he swallowed then licked a piece of flesh from the outside of his mouth along with a thin trail of blood there. "What we are meant to do? Wha'do you mean, Chastity?"

"We're predators. We kill our meat, typically. Sure, some have it a different way but I prefer to live as we were born. Most of my family and house hunt..." Chastity replied, licking a bit of blood off her nose. Being a female, she did try to at least remain as clean as she could.

Predators? That's right, they were. Doron grinned. So easy to forget in a home with three square meals a day most days and snacks too. Why did they call them 'square' anyway? Most meals were not square...
The male chuckled, flicking his tails. "it's different. And kinda fun. Good. I don;t think I'd like to do it all the time though. I'd miss Aunt Ginny's cooking. Especially the spotted d**k. And the banana bread Trel bakes. And peach pies..." Doron licked his lips thinking about it. "Maree makes the flakiest crusts..."
Then he grinned sheepishly. "Never known other kitsu actually killed for their meals. Never thought about it." He turned an eye to his rabbit. He had seen her suck something out of one of the bones. Hmm... now how to do that...
Finding a similar bone in his rabbit Doron emulated the females actions and gave a happy surprised look as the marrow filled his mouth. mmm!

Chastity blinked at all these unfamiliar terms. She had never heard of these things. Were they food? She supposed so because he talked about them while they were eating as is.
"Those sound interesting... I've never heard or had them before." she admitted. "For the most part, either it was my mother and father at the beginning, or it was me later in life that got our food. We've never.... cooked."

"Really? Well I guess most kitsu don't cook cook. I mean... well I don't really cook." Doron grinned toothily. "But you;ve never tried cooked food? What about going to the HeadQuarters? There's always pre-made food and stuffs there normally. And bananas! My da loves bananas!" Wagging his tails, Doron finished the remainder of his rabbit. Then he looked in confusion at the remains. "So... where's the compost pile?"

"Compost pile?" Chastity asked, blinking. There was nothing left of her rabbit to be thrown away. "This is the wild Doron. There is nothing to throw away. The earth will take it back, at least that's how my mother explained it to me. So you don't have to worry about that."
She sat back and thought on it. "If you think about it, had these rabbits just died, someone wouldn't have come along and tossed them in a compost pile would they? And headquarters? what's that? I've always lived out here...."

His ears flicked, bright blue eyes crinkling in confusion as his swirled ear stood upright while the other pressed back against his head. "But that's what the compost pile does. Only keeps it all in one place until Maree takes the dirt out of the bottom & spreads it on the gardens. That way the kits don't step on them or something."
Wait.... she didn't know about HQ either? He forgot about rabbits just dying somewhere. "Headquarters? It's that big building over that way." Doron waved a paw in the appropriate direction. "Not really that far. Lots of kitsu go there. That's were Da & Ma met. Da's always sleeping there. Where'd your parents meet, Chastity?" His tails wagged. She was much more interesting then talking about boring old headquarters.

Chastity tilted her head. She didn't know. She just knew that her mother and father were there when she was born... when she was hungry.... and only after she grew up they were generally away.
"I dunno...." she admitted, shrugging. "They've never told me about how they met or that kinda thing... Father is awesome though. He can change his shape! Mother has horns, but she's not like the Nitemares that are about the place. I guess maybe she's partly like them however..."

"Aw..." His disappointment that she did not know where her parents met was quickly forgotten. "Your da can change shapes? Really?" There was the briefest pause as he tried to remember something about a kitsu that could change shape... naw. That had been a warning & this was Chastity's da! No way related! "And your ma's got horns? That's way cool!" His tails thumped happily on the ground behind him. "Can you do anything cool like that? I just sleep." He laughed, finding that funny. "My brother sleeps and hides. Do you have a brother? Or a sister? Cousin Lily has tons of both."
