Power walking his way towards the oasis, Eden couldn't help but panic. He would never forgive himself if anything were to happen to Fenris. Feelings of guilt rushed into him as his thoughts continued. Is this what it feels like to...care for someone? If not, then why would I be so...worried? I wonder if...she feels this way about me. It's been a week...I wonder if she's been thinking the same thing, too? Layla...
His heart breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the wet creature in the water hole. The water looked pretty disgusting, but then again Fenris was getting pretty nasty himself. "How's the...water?"

Fenris's head jerked up when he heard Eden's voice, blinking away the water that got into his eyes. He wasn't so surprised that Eden showed up, but it did feel a little awkward. He doggy-paddled towards the shallow end of the watering hole until he could stand with most of his body above the water. He looked somewhat better now that most of the dried blood was gone, but with his fiery feather-fur wet and tangled, and his wings gouged and covered in dead or ragged feathers, he looked... Bedraggled, to say the very least.
"Ah, yes... The water was fine," Fenris said after a moment, bowing his head slightly. His little "bath" had left him a little drained, and the water dripping from his coat and wings made him feel heavier. He wasn't looking forward to the short walk back to the hole. Pawing at the wet sand beneath his claws, he says in a soft voice, "I am sorry for not telling you where I was going... I just couldn't stand being so filthy for much longer."

The dark angel shook his head lightly, "No...It's ok...Just wanted to make sure you were...ok." He could understand the other's need for a bath. It wasn't all just about appearences, if he didn't bathe in so long he'd start feeling uncomfortable, too. Especially with all those dead feathers and dried up blood clinging...must be itchy. Plus without grooming all the oil and dead skin cells must cause a feeling of uneasiness. There was no need to apologize; Eden understood.
"You still don't look...So well," he chuckled softly, "You still look like...death. But at least...you don't smell like...death anymore. Do you need some...help?" His head tilted to the side.
After this bath there was no way he was going back to this water hole again for a while...He'd have to go back to the house for supplies. But either way it was about time for another refill of their supplies. The food was almost gone, and the blanket needed some washing. Another trip tonight wouldn't be too bad, especially with their fresh water supply...tainted.

Fenris noticed Eden looking towards the watering hole, and looked back over his shoulder to see the red spots floating on the surface. He resisted the urge to sigh, knowing that while he might have enjoyed a decent bath, they would have to be getting their water from somewhere else for a while. I guess Eden will be going for supplies again, soon...
Turning back to Eden, the Angel thought about what he said, knowing that he probably looked like a drowned Star Fox. After a moment he shakes his head slightly, throwing off some water droplets at the same time. "I would like some help making sure I don't fall over on the way back to the hole... I think I might be able to handle grooming myself."
Liar... Fenris's mind taunted back at him. You can't move a foot without some part of your body hurting. You expect that you'll be handle all the moving and contorting of your body to clean yourself?
Fenris ignored that annoying voice, instead starting to make back for the hole. He refused to wince at a twinge in his right foreleg and tried not to limp. I am not weak...

Fenris looked like...a big drowned chicken. Or like an unhappy cat that just got its bath. Either way, it was quite the image. Still, he didn't look all that well yet. Well enough to move around for a little bit for a short while, but that was the extent of it. He didn't show it outwardly too much, but Eden could at the least guess he still hurt all over.
"Of course...Sorry..." He hurried over to the other's side. But he was unsure of what to do exactly. He was afraid to touch Fenris in the wrong places and hurt him some more. I guess I'll...just catch him...if he falls?

Fenris gave a slight, appreciative nod as he carefully moved back towards the hole. He wobbled a few times, his steps faltering in the soft sand, but he managed not to keel over until he made it to the entrance. He crawled in, wincing as sand got into his wounds again and his muscles burned from the little bit of walking and swimming he'd done.
When he reached the end, he looked at the blanket, crusty with his blood and a few dead feathers, he slumped just short of it, curling up as much as his battered body allowed. His wet tail went over his beak, hiding most of his face aside from weary golden eyes. Look how far I've fallen, he thought. He couldn't move without pain stabbing into him, sleeping in a sand hole that reeked of his own blood and filth. He was amazed that the wounds hadn't become infected, but the possibility that could happen was still strong. He'd failed in so many ways, and this was what he had 'earned.' I'm pathetic. He may not admit it out loud, but if nothing else, he could be honest with himself.

He couldn't help but keep his eyes glued tightly onto Fenris' every move. If the sunset colored one shifted left, eyes would follow him to the left. All the wincing didn't convince Eden too much of his healing. None the less, there wasn't much he could do. The most he could do was watch over him and attend to his every need.
When he climbed back into the hole, his newly obtained servant could tell there was some...inner turmoil brewing. Or perhaps it was there all along; if it was, he didn't notice until just now. Eden couldn't offer too much help in the emotional department; he had some issues he needed to sort out himself.
It still wouldn't hurt to offer help, right? Even if it was just to lend an ear.
"You look a little...sad. I can...lend an ear....if you want?" He asked meekly.

Fenris lifted his head, turning so he could stare at Eden with one eye. Craning his neck so he could look fully upon the other angel would have been too uncomfortable, and he didn't like the way this movement tugged upon his burning muscles. He hoped for a moment that the dark, unusual angel wouldn't think he was being rude, but realized he probably wouldn't. He'd been taking care of him for days now, for whatever his reasons were.
The damp angel couldn't fathom why Eden was doing this, didn't really understand why he'd been saved. Fenris should be thankful, he supposed, but he couldn't help feeling all his mistakes weighing on him, trying to pinpoint where he'd went wrong and still feeling like he should be punished. And Eden, his savior, trying so hard to keep him from death's door, wanted to know what else was wrong.
How can I explain about my old life before this one? Fenris asked himself, his heart growing heavier at the thought. Devadas and Caelestes... How do I explain Toril, and how I came to be like this? That my actions damned the woman I loved most, and I don't even know what they were? He didn't want to burden the other male more, didn't know how to describe all that was on his mind.
He lowers his head again, this time resting it atop his tail. "Just thinking," he answers in a quiet rasp, his voice sounding more tired than he liked but unable to conceal it. "Thinking I'm a stupid, foolish old man, and that I've ruined the best things I've ever had." He fell quiet again and closed his eyes, shivering even though it wasn't cold in the hole, even as drenched as he was.

Eden just couldn't leave Fenris alone. The poor guy was on the brink of death, practically. If Eden just passed by him and left him to die, he would forever have the weight of death on his conscience. Aside from just guilt, he genuinely wanted to help someone else with something. Often times he felt his existence was very useless, worthless and lack-luster. Perhaps by building a relationship with another creature would help him overcome these feelings.
It was quite obvious whatever issues Fenris had were personal, and not something he really wanted to discuss with strangers. He was not exactly alone in this problem. The fallen angel had his own fair share of problems; one of which included his rather abusive relationship with Layla. He thought discussing his relationship was not something Fenris particularly wished to hear at this time. Even if he objected, due to his limited mobility he would have to wait until Eden finished, and that was not something he wanted to subject the other angel to.
"Hey...we all have our ups and downs...in life. We all make mistakes...even if we are not...proud of them. I am sure...you will learn from them...and hopefully correct them...someday..." Trying his best to at least give a glimmer of hope to the other, Eden was certainly no beacon of light. From his appearance to his personality, there was hardly any light left in him. If someone tried to fill him with light, it was like an internal vacuum sucking it all out until only darkness and despair remained.
Seeing as how thinking about these things only made matters worse, he tried to move on with their deep, life-changing thoughts. It wasn't too obvious until Fenris returned from the water hole, but their little hole was starting to smell. Not only was it unpleasant for him and possibly Fenris as well, but it would certainly attract predators or other stray animals. On top of those things, Fenris festering in his own dried blood was probably not the most healthy living situation.
"I think it is time...I made a new hole for us to stay in....This one...smells a little....funky. I'll go scout for one...when night falls...then dig a hole....and come back to get you...Maybe...wash the blanket, too..." It wasn't an idea he was too keen on, but it was a necessary. "Does that...sound ok...to you...?"

Fenris breathed in as deeply as he could without bringing on more discomfort, his eyes falling closed. He wasn't sure why he'd said anything at all, but he would he appreciated Eden's attempt at trying to comfort him. Though his words were stilted and awkward, they seemed sincere. I can only hope I can correct what I've done...
The fiery feather-furred angel could not argue with what Eden said after, about the odor of the hole becoming intolerable. He let out another soft sigh as he nods his head. "Thank you... You've done so much for me... I do not deserve your kindness."

When the sun set just below the horizon, Eden made his move out of the hole. There was still enough light for seeing, but not enough to make the dark-furred angel feel like hell. He hoped his new friend could fend for himself in the mean time, for surely he would not want anything to happen to the fiery one.
The blanket they shared was clamped inside his mouth. Its taste was a mixture between iron, sand and wet feathers. Fenris was probably going to feel rather uncomfortable without it, but they left it in that grotesque condition, he would probably end up catching an infection.
Eden's feet dragged his body with blanket in mouth toward the watering hole Fenris bathed in. He lightly tossed the blanket in the pool of water full of floating feathers and dried blood. It was better than contaminating their new water hole, he figured.
A claw gripped against the edge of the water-hole as he used the other to swish the blanket around in the water. This was probably less efficient than a washing machine, but it'll have to do for now. Swishing it a couple more times, his thoughts lingered off elsewhere again.
Layla... He sighed. I wonder if she feels lonely without me...Probably not...
Since his thoughts wandered elsewhere, the grip he had on the edge of the water hole loosened just enough for him to lose balance. Before he realized it, he fell head first into the pool of water. Ick.
He tried hard not to swallow any of the water he was paddling in. There was enough of Fenris' taste in his mouth from all the blood, feathers, sand and who knows what else. Unfortunately, a couple gulps entered his mouth as he clamped down on the blanket. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good, he figured.
Pulling himself out of the water, he used his claws to maneuver the blanket onto his back, trying his best not to drag it in the sand. He pressed onward in his search for a nearby waterhole.
Luck would prove on their side as he found a smaller, but seemingly clean one not too far away from where Fenris was. It was a bit of a distance to walk, but hopefully with Eden's help he could move a little more easily to their new "home".
He ran as fast as he could back toward their little hole. The speed was just slow enough so the blanket wouldn't fall off, but not fast enough to really be considered "running". It was half-way between power walking and running.
"Hey...! I..." He huffed out words between his breaths, "...found a...water hole...! Not..." He tried catching his breath in between his words, though it proved somewhat futile, "Too far...from here..."
Slowly he slid down back into the hole. "It will take...a while to dig...You can lay...on blanket...in the mean time...I will...help you get out...of this hole..."
He took baby steps near the fiery-angel, being cautious not to touch him without permission first. Whatever he'll tell Eden to do, Eden would do.

Fenris managed to get a few hours of fitfull slumber during the day. Once he woke up to let Eden take the blanket for washing, though, he couldn't drift off again. The sand irritated his wounds, and even though he shifted onyo his side he found no more rest when he shut his eyes. So he waited for the dark angel's return, along with his pains and his thoughts... They were not good companions.
He nearly did go back to sleep when Eden slide down the hole again with his news of a new watering hole and the damp blanket. He inwardly grimaced at the thought of moving again. The brief swim and the short trek from and back to the hole had left him exhausted. He had to admit, though, that getting away from this reeking burrow would be wonderful. Since he'd rinsed most of the filth off his body just how badly he'd stunk up the small space became more obvious. The energy it would take to move to a new spot would be worth it.
Giving a small nod, he slowly forced himself to his paws, panting lightly as when he put his weight on his legs. Fenris looked towards Eden, the other angel expecting him to let him know when he was ready. Drawing in a deep breath, he rasped, "I'm ready when you are... Ready as I'll get." He didn't feel ready but it had to be done.
