Elgan Well, the problem with prejudice against Japanese from Koreans and vice versa, is that some kids, they don't even know the reasons why their parents or grandparents or whoever hate Japan or Korea. They just know that Japan or Korea is being hated by their ancestors or friends or whatever, so they just hate the countries along with them. Also, about the island thing, I understand why Japan wants it, AND hwy Korea wants it. Well, Japan was the first country to LEGALLY claim that island years ago. But Koreans have been living there a really long time. So it's kind of like a fight between LAW and TRADITION (or whatever word you use for it). Speaking of Dok-do (I don't know the spelling), I heard this one joke about it. Okay, so here it is: (There are both Koreans and Japanese in this school thing, learning Chinese, so their only communication is through Chinese, which they're not GREAT at.) *So they're talking, and the subject of their conversation reaches Dok-do, the island* Korean1: Dok-do is Korean! (in Chinese, of course) Japanese1: No, DAKESHIMA (sp? wait, I'm not even sure of the word...) is Japanese! *And they keep fighting like that* Korean2: Hey, do your cell phones work in Dok-do? Ours do! *And the Koreans win the fight.* lol I know that it probably won't be very funny, but it was to me when I first heard it... I laugh a lot, so.. Well, I'm sorry if I'm taking up to much space for pointless things that I had to say..( crying ) Actually Dokdo is Korean. The Japanese said it became theirs (A long time afterward the invasion) when they took over the mainland but didn't claim it then. Now they're saying it's theirs when they gave up their territorial rights over Korea years ago. Who's the bigoty one here?

Hey, could someone fill me in? What's going on between Korea and Japan? I am adopted from Korea to America, but studying abroad in Japan in about a year. Should I expect any of this to carry over for me?

Bishoujo_chick_Anna I love both Korea and Japan. What I hate, though, is the feud between them... who agrees??? well i have a small dislike for what they did to us in the past (if your FOB you'll know) but i make friends with them ^_^.

Should I expect any of this to carry over for me? well, Japan annexed Korea, treated us like crap, raped, killed, and did other bad things to us. stole stuff from us like some big tablet, tried to eliminate our culture, and then they got nuked. now, Korea and Japan hate each other. Japan i don't know why they hate us, but Korea still hasen't forgiven Japan. But then again, Japan hasn't repented like Germany. If you go to Japan, u'll get treated badly, maybe. They don't like anyone who's Jpn. i heard about a a kid who was mistreated in school for being 3/4 jpn.

I'm a Korean adoptee, so I'm an American, which from my experiences in France, citizens can tell right away by our dress which nation we come from (writing/pictures on shirts and supposedly colored/socks with pictures). I don't know a whole lot about politics as I am more interested in culture and art, but will that not help me? Any suggestions as to how to get along with people (I'm basically anti-Bush, I'm a democrat) for a semester in school abroad? I have about a year to prepare...

Korean_turtle87 cause we can't i don't even wanna be related to the Japanese. Saying Japan hates Korea is being naive, if not ignorant. That's like saying all whites hate blacks. And we do get along. Some, less than others, but for the most part, we do. Hostility towards the Japanese for this particular reason isn't just. Yes, they raped, murdered, prostituted our people, but Japan followed Imperialism. They had no choice but to become that way. Or maybe you'd rather believe that the Japanese were an always will be monsters. Hell, in that respect, you might as well hate all Germans. Forgiving's easy, forgeting's hard. You should at least forgive.

i like liberals...i understand the conceptual importance of pride in some asian cultures, but i don't like it when it gets in the way of good international relations.
