Ophelia smiled once she was finally offered their names. Ophelia hadn' found any opening to give hers, so she hadn't even bothered. She smiled in acknowledgment, "My name's Ophelia. Nice to meet you then, Faraday..." she looked at Axis curiously, "Axis." She looked back at Enero again, who started to moved around, the creaking of the trees trunks bending and snapping as he made room to outstretch his wings enough to take into the air. After we hunt, do you think we could see them again? He snorted and looked at her. She frowned; how much she hated how many times he did that every day. Like he disapproved of everything she did. Well, he did in a way. Come on, Enero, I'm serious?

Enero snapped his wings open, stretching from the clearing to over the trees, brushing the branches. A few small animals scurried in fright down one trunk, and he hungrily grabbed one in his claws. And ate the screeching thing, right there. It was a completely natural thing to Ophelia now, but she had to cringe, wondering how Faraday and Axis faired. But, even the look of him eating made her want to drool; the hunger was eating at her quickly. Ever since she was bonded to Enero, her stomach was much bigger. If they could ever find something purely decent to eat their fill they wouldn't have to eat for a few days at a time, but things such as rabbits, badgers, even small foxes wouldn't hold her stomach long, and definitely not Enero's. He finally looked at her again after almost finishing his little snack in seconds. Yes. Can we just find something? I'm starving. For once his voice sounded desperate. She had to smile in amusement.

Ophelia turned to Faraday with a crooked grin, "Actually, we'll probably see you again soon, if you don't mind. For now, though.." she paused, putting a hand to her aching stomach, "We have a date with breakfast." She put a hand up as goodbye, turned on her heal and jogged over to Enero. He took that as a final point, wavered his wings in the air a few moments, then with all of his strength in his powerful lengths, surged forward in a leap. He beat his wings very quickly so he wouldn't skim the trees and have an unexpected crash landing. That was when Ophelia grinned at the chimera bonded, and formed into her bonded form, letting the sun bathe her earthen colours. She snorted herself, and shot into the air, her wing beats nothing compared to the mighty Enero's.

I can already see a badger family just waiting for us. Enero's voice cooed through Ophelia's head, as he turned west and started gliding slowly toward a thick patch of trees. Ophelia make a cheerful growl within her throat, and followed easily behind.

Faraday watched the dragons leave as she dropped down next to Axis. Her clawed hand rested on his furry back and the other hand stroked a wing. Axis finally closed all his eyes as he lay there, content. Faraday started to examine his wing, pulling out bits of grass, twigs and leaves and loose feathers. Axis' other wing fluttered and Faraday grinned, reaching over his broad back to give the other wing the same attention.

After a few minutes, Faraday's stomach started to growl. She clutched at it and poked Axis.

"Axis, I'm hungry."

Axis rolled his lion eyes.

I know, Faraday. I'm hungry too. Even though we ate only hours ago, I'm starving.

Faraday sighed and stood up, stretching her wings out behind her. Axis also stood, stretching his tired limbs.

"So I guess we go to hunt as well, hm?" Faraday asked. Axis just gave her a look and started off in the opposite direction of Ophelia and Enero. Faraday hesitated and glanced the way the dragons had gone before hurrying after Axis.

Soon enough, Faraday caught the scent of squirrels. As Faraday's stomach growled, she hoped that it was a large family of squirrels. Axis stopped under the tree where the scent was strongest. He looked at Faraday and shimmered out of visibility. Faraday heard him scale the tree, though Axis became silent as he neared the nest. Seeing through Axis' eyes, Faraday could see inside the hole in the tree. A family of six squirrels lay in there, sleeping beside a pile of nuts. Her mouth watered. Axis quickly snapped up a squirrel with each head and swallowed them whole. The other three, now awake and terrified of the invisible enemy, were snapped up as well, though Axis did not swallow. He dropped back down to the ground to meet a chimera Faraday. He dropped the squirrels and Faraday lunged before they could escape. Each head snapped up a squirrel and quickly swallowed.

Faraday stood in human form and licked her lips.

"That wasn't too filling but--" she quickly stopped as a strange scent filled her nose. Axis stared at her.

What is it? Wha-
He quickly cut off as he too caught the scent.

"What is it?" Faraday asked fearfully. The scent was familiar and strange at the same time; deadly yet alluring. Faraday's insticts told her to hide--quickly.

Basilisks.
Axis' eyes narrowed, as did Faraday's.

Keep your eyes narrowed. One glare and...
Faraday bit her lip and nodded.

"Perhaps... perhaps they aren't... hostile?" Faraday's mouth quirked into a smile, despite her fear. Axis shrugged and started forward. A knot of fear twisted in Faraday's stomach.

"Axis, no!" she cried. "I don't wanna see them."

Axis just gave her a sharp look before following the scent of the basilisks. Faraday shifted into chimera form as she followed him hesitantly.

Madoc was not happy about this, not happy at all. Ruad had just busted into his room and dragged him off in his arms, carrying him into the forest. All without so much as an "if you please"! "Get the - !" Madoc began while they were still in the air, but Ruad cut him off by squeezing the air out of him. The action left Madoc coughing and sputtering while they flew, farther and farther into the forest. The boy got his wind back right about when Ruad landed, and he wasted no time in using it.

"What the hell was that about?!" Madoc snapped, fighting his way out of the angel's arms, hating how nice it had felt. Ruad let him go with a twinge of regret, but a bigger twinge of frustration. The angel glared down at his counterpart for a moment before speaking. "Don't you realise that we're free now? What did you think I was doing?" Ruad demanded, crossing his arms defensively. Why do we always have to be fighting, you crackhemp?! he thought, though he knew it was partially on him as well. Though it's Madoc's fault that it is. My god! Could he get any angrier?

Apparently he could. Madoc returned Ruad's glare fivefold as he rose to his feet. "Oh, wonderful. We're free to die in the woods. Sure, I wanted out..." Madoc began, trailing off as a thought struck him. How did you know that? I keep you out! Or at least, Madoc had thought he did... He didn't want Ruad in his head, nor to be in the other's. Madoc shook his head, then smoothed the hair over his left eye and renewed his scowl. "I didn't want to be out here with you." Though I know I can never get away...

"Are you an idiot?!" Ruad shouted, losing his temper. He had punched through two walls to free the ungrateful little punk, the punk he could never live without, and now Madoc was giving him hell over it? "I thought you might appreciate a little bit of freedom, but apparently not! Well too bad, because I wasn't going to stay with those God-damned alchemists and their devilry for one more day!" Ruad flicked his wings angrily; he knew they were making a lot of noise, especially considering that they had only *just* escaped, but Madoc's attitude just hurt. After all, he'd freed them for Madoc as much as he had for himself; he knew the human had wanted to escape the alchemists as much as he had, so what was the problem? It wasn't as though they would be able to go their separate ways, no matter what was done or where they were, so why not be together and free?

In truth, Madoc knew all that, but this newfound distance from others made him just as nervous as it elated him. Now that there was no one around, keeping himself from Ruad would be even more difficult. At least when they'd been kept apart, and watched all the time when they were together, it had been easy... In the end, Madoc responded in hsi favourite way; he drew back and swung at Ruad, connecting solidly with his jaw. The force of the blow floored both of them, as Madoc felt exactly the same pain the angel did. He sat up as soon as he was able, panting angrily. "I was happy there," he lied, glaring. Ruad's eyes widened in incredulity and anger.

"Happy-?!" he began, silencing himself when he heard a noise in the woods. Madoc's and Ruad's heads whipped towards the sound at the same time, and for once they looked to an outsider like they might be friends. "Great. Now your shouting brought us some visitors," Madoc snapped at Ruad. The angel glared back. "I thought you were happy there," Ruad mocked. "Besides, at least I can do something about it now." It was true, to. While Madoc could cause no harm, and probably never could, Ruad had come of age at sunrise the previous morning. For an angel, that meant that he was granted the power of judgment - he could judge for himself where, when and on who violence was necessary, and act accordingly.

After that, though, they were silent. Madoc would have loved to retort, but silence seemed rather important at the moment. Silence, and maybe speed... Ruad said it just as Madoc thought it. "Change your form. Then you can at least run." Madoc bit back a reply again, knowing that Ruad was right and knowing that the less noise they made... He removed his tunic as quietly as he could, revealing his old wounds for but a moment before wings grew out of them and he took on his angelic form. But who's there? he wondered, peering anxiously into the concealing darkness.

Dream of the Infinite Beauty

"I feel you're right." Arronen spoke to all of them now. "There is strength in numbers after all." He began to move out of the way of Caden, but she preferred to stay behind him, and so moved with him.

She noticed she was being watched, and began to twist her hair in her hands gently. She used to be very bright and outgoing, and would have loved the attention. That had all changed though, and now, after all she'd been through, it made her feel a bit like she was under observation again. She didn't say anything, though. She had learned a long time ago that speaking out can get you in trouble. Arronen felt her anxiety.

"Come. Let us hurry. Caden, shift back. I don't have the energy to carry you today." Though his voice seemed cold and distant, Caden obliged with a hurry. He was always an old grump, but Caden love Arronen with all the love she could give. She knew he felt the same as well. That was enough for her to obey his every command. Even in the proud, beautiful shape of a unicorn, though, she fidgeted; stamping her hooves gently and twitching her tail. She always stayed silent in the presence of strangers.

||Ah, AtavisticDevilry, I don't know who you're expecting, so I'll just... run into you. biggrin ||

Faraday watched behind her with a side head, and to the side with the other. Her center, main head drooped miserably and watched ahead of her as she followed Axis. The scent of the basilisks were still strong in their noses, and it only instilled more fear in them. Every instinct inside Faraday screamed at her to run, make a break for it, never look back for fear of looking into a basilisk's eyes. However, Faraday merely pushed it down, the knowledge of being near Axis calming her, if only slightly.

Axis paused, scenting about the air. A new scent came to him, one that puzzled him after the cloying scent of the basilisks. It was a clean smell, though the spiciness of the scent indicated anger and fury. Axis tilted his head in confusion, pricking his ears up to catch the slightest sound. Faraday saw his stance and stood perfectly still, not making a sound to interfere. Her mind drifted toward Axis', curious to know what he was doing. Axis let her intohis mind; what was his was hers. Faraday let the corners of her mouth twitch. Faraday then saw what Axis saw, smelled what he smelled, heard what he heard.

"Hm," Faraday said aloud, "What do you think it could be?"

Be quiet, Faraday. I cannot know if you are breaking my concentration.

Faraday frowned but didn't say anything. She let him do whatever it was he was doing. Axis started to move to the left. The trees got thinner and thinner and Faraday realized they were moving out of the forest. She hung back, hesitant before Axis turned back, reassuring her with his red eyes.

Stepping from the shelter of the trees made Faraday feel vulnerable. Axis stood next to her, slightly larger than she and much deadlier. Squinting her multiple eyes against the sudden bright light of the sun, Faraday saw two figures standing before her. The only thing that gave them away as inhuman were the large wings sprouting from their backs. Faraday supressed a gasp (which would seem strange, coming from a lioness) and stared at the two feminine men. They were beautiful, unlike any natural human. Their wings gleamed and shone, and their hair seemed to be made of the finest materials. Faraday stared, dumbfounded, until Axis shifted next to her. Reality hit her and she realized that they could be dangerous to her. Faraday immediately shrank back, keeping all eyes glued to the two angels.

|| Thank you! ^^ I wasn't waiting for anyone in particular ||

Madoc's senses were just as honed as Ruad's, which was to say "very". In most respects, actually, they were alike. What that meant now, though, was that they spotted the two approaching beings from fairly far away, even given the poor lighting. The red eyes really did help, though the fact that there seemed to be six of... whatever was coming was fairly disconcerting. Madoc sniffed the air; it was a very, very strange smell. Sort of lion-y, and bug-y, and human-y... Human? Madoc looked sideways at Ruad, kind of wanting to ask the angel what he made of it. After all, despite how old Ruad looked, he'd been around for many, many years.

Ruad seemed to catch Madoc's thought. At least, that was what Madoc took the small twitch of a smile to be. The human scowled at that; Ruad was not supposed to be in his mind! "Get out," Madoc hissed, staring forwards again. Ruad mirrored his scowl, then spoke. "Chimeras. Pay more attention next time. The same smell was around the alchemists' labs," the angel said softly, though anger was apparent in his voice. What problem does he have?! Doesn't he realise mind-to-mind communication would be infinitely more practical at the moment? Ruad thought, moving to stand in front of Madoc. He didn't look back to see the expression of outrage he was sure would be there. This was just practical... And Ruad would probably kill himself if he ever let anything happen to Madoc. Well, anything he didn't do himself, anyway...

The appearance of the two creatures surprised Madoc - less so Ruad, who had dealt with them in the past. Madoc was more than happy to see that there were only two of them, not six, but the fact that each had three heads... And wings, Madoc reminded himself, absentmindedly reaching up to lay a couple fingers on one of his own. That meant they couldn't escape by flying, though Madoc was sure they were far more aerodynamic than the creatures in front of them. Madoc could probably fly comfortably in the forest, but they? They were too large for that. Small comfort, the human thought, secretly more than glad that Ruad was willing to stand between them. Glad, and... Shut up. Don't think about that, Madoc reminded himself, firmly focusing on the creatures before him.

"Are you from the labs?" Ruad asked cautiously, his head tilted slightly downwards and to the side. He wanted to make sure that these two were not, in fact, wild chimeras. That would be very, very bad. "I don't need protecting!" Madoc hissed at Ruad from behind, distracting him from his observation of the two beasts. Ruad just clenched his jaw angrily, turning his head so that Madoc could hear him. "Yes you do, little "harm none". Now shut up and let me potentially keep us alive. We don't know if they're going to try to eat us or not!" the angel whispered back, his eyes only betraying his anger. Madoc ground his teeth in frustration, because he knew Ruad was right. He's always right... the human thought with a little more fondness than he was comfortable with.

Light speckled across the ground, but could not brighten the trap set before Elemera. Ah such was fate right? After all if she had just stayed there eating the prey that she was given, she would never of encountered a blunder at all. In fact she was already half tempted to just stay there in the first place. Her stomach tried to empower her thoughts and just overwhelm her with hunger, yet she cared about Phialynch, and did not want him to wander off into trouble. So she finally decided to give up the meat, and after storing it somewhere she knew to find it, she took off after him... and that is where she came across Mr. Trap.

Oh how he liked to mock her into believing that she was safe with leaves covered all around him, but there was danger there indeed. Phialynch had moved right beside it barely missing it, however Elemera was the one to really greet him. One little step on it, and SWOOOOP! Up she went as the tree branch pulled the rope upwards. She was now dangling around, with very loud tin cans bashing against each other, probably letting Mr.Traps owner to be alerted that they caught something. Well, being a basilisk, that probably would not be that harmful, after all a man with a shotgun ready to bag a deer would become a helpless victim to the lure within Elemera's eye, yet it was something worse then that, that she feared. The Facility workers could have set up this trap! With that, she screamed within Phialynch head,
"Help! Help! Get me down!"

Phialynch really didn't need to be alerted that she was caught, he already heard from all the commotion, so her screaming just made it quite more... whimsical. His head turned towards her, now losing the sent of the Chimeras that he just now noticed in the air. It was not a problem though, he'd track them later, for now he just wanted to laugh at her. "Haha, Elemera, it seems you are... quite light on your feet," he laughed, as she was barely a foot off the ground, just far enough to where her forelegs could not touch the dirt.

"Argh! Quit laughing and get me down from here! If I am not freed this instant, I'll kick your butt!" She paused as she looked around the forest, wondering if any others could hear the loud clangs of cans. If she was in her human form her mouth would of trembled as she spoke, but perhaps in Phialynch mind he could actually hear it as she tried to speak calmer and yet urgent at the same time, "Others could of heard me, please Fay, we have to go!" With that said she started to attempt to swipe at the rope with her claws and teeth, but she was by far too rigid to actually move about, had she been limber like Phialynch, she could easily bend towards it with a mighty smack. So why wasn't he helping her, when he saw all of this going on?

Well there was no reason to, Phialynch continued to laugh,
"Oh, Mi'lady, it looks like thou hast fallen for me. Ah could it be? Oh love so sweet and tender be so early in our midst?"

"Shut up Fay! Get me out of this!"

"Ah, I know thou calls for me because of what I can doth for thee, but mi'lady, there is oh so much more I can do for you." Had he been human he would of winked, yet since he couldn't he merely decided to wait a second so she would get the picture, and continued on despite her grunts of struggle, "I can't help but wonder mi'lady, would the have fallen so quickly for me, if thee were but a human?"

"Shut up!..." Then it hit her almost as fast as the trap that swoon her from her feet. The ropes were too large for her human form. Embarrassment fluttered within her, to the point she had to wait a moment before she turned human unless she wanted her cheeks flushed. Once she felt comfortable, she quickly changed to her human form, and dropped from the rope onto the nice soft ground. The rest of the tree flung backwards with a loud whip like action as the cans rattled ever louder, but it seemed the worst of the problems were over... well... there was still Phialynch laughing at her. But he would receive his just deserts, oh he would very well indeed.

Faraday shifted uncomfortably as she shrank behind Axis. The bird-men were staring, and their unnatural beauty and looks made her shameful of herself. Axis sensed her thought and turned away from the bird-men to face her. His fierce glare made her ashamed that she had thought such a thing and she quickly resumed human form, her wings shuffling dryly. Axis snorted and turned back to the bird-men, Icarii, as he called such beings.

"Yes, we're from the labs," Faraday replied, meeting the Icariis' gaze with her mismatched eyes. "But we do not work for them," she added fiercely, fingers digging into Axis' fur where she clutched his back. Axis shifted uncomfortably as her claws dug into him, and Faraday realized what she was doing and pulled her fingers away from him. Axis turned back to the Icarii.

They're angels, Faraday whispered in his mind, glad for the mental comfort Axis' mind brought to her.

Axis nodded slightly.

My kind call them Icarii, an old name for angels. Chimeras and angels go way back. However, I wouldn't say that they had a good relationship. Faraday prodded at his mind but Axis wouldn't explain further.

"Are you two from the labs as well?" Faraday asked warily, slowly moving from Axis' side. He started to shift himself to block her again, but she pushed him back. Faraday wanted a better look at these angels, or Icarii or whatever. They did not seem comfortable with each other. This puzzled Faraday. If they knew about the labs, they were surely bonded, right? And if they were bonded, why would they be so uncomfortable with each other? One seemed to have a tattoo over his eye, but Faraday couldn't really see it. She crossed her arms, not as intimidated as she was before.

Suddenly, Axis stiffened. He caught the sound of cans and shouting, and a strong whiff told him that basilisks were about. Axis bristled and stretched out his wings. Faraday threw him an alarmed glance.

Where are you going?

Axis launched into the air and within a few powerful beats he was over the treetops.

Stay here, he warned her. Keep an eye on the Icarii, and I'll go invesigate those basilisks. He glared down at her, daring her to follow. Faraday glared right back but stayed on the ground.

Whatever.

Axis snorted again and flew off in the direction of the basilisk smell. He didn't go very far before spotting a basilisk and a young woman down on the ground. Axis circled them a few times in the air before gathering the courage to land. He kept his wings out and his eyes down, ready to lift off if the basilisks decided to attack or meet his eyes.

"Haha, very funny," she titled her head obviously annoyed by Phialynch... "hmph, well see who's laughing when you get stuck in one of those and can't get out." Her voice flared at him, although truthfully she wasn't really annoyed, she as just more embarrassed than anything else, and he knew that all to well, so she was still ripe for the picking on.

"Well, it isn't my fault I learned to know what humans smell like, and so anything that smells like them on the ground I avoid..." he interjected a quick laugh before continuing, "I guess you had to learn the hard way first." He moved towards her, about to allow her to use him as a way to get off the ground, he knew she probably bruised a lot more than her pride so she would need the help. Yet as he moved closer to her he heard something in the air, sounds of beating wings, and then the smell of Chimera came back to him. It was here, in the sky. His first reaction would be to look at it, to make sure he was right, but he knew the thing was probably freaked out to see a basilisk. Regular Chimeras would just leave basilisks be, it isn't like his glare can penetrate up to the heavens, and on the ground he had easy pickings dealing with all of those eyes, so it was putting itself in harms way. Why? Because it was obviously a bonded escaped from the lab. Of course he knew this, but Elemera did not put two and two together.

"Chimera!" She shouted to alert Phialynch, even though he already knew what it was, partly he was glad she knew as well. However she was not keen on it being a friendly creature, perhaps it had heard the trap and wanted to capture her and the basilisk in its mighty arms. So quickly she started to focus on turning into her basilisk form, but her concentration was interrupted even before any noticeable changes could come about, and was in the process of transforming back to her bonded form when Phialynch urged her to stop with a rather loud 'no' within her head. That definitely sent her eyes towards him, to wonder what was going on, "What is the matter with you Fay?"

His voice still loud in her head,
"Don't turn into a basilisk, trust me, the chimera poses no harm, it is a bonded just as we are... He probably does not trust me, so you shall do the speaking." She could hear his smiling enthusiasm, "A task definitely fitting for a fine and noble lady as yourself, go, and speak of good things of you and I."

With that thought, she put on her best, 'I-am-just-too-cute-to-cause-any-harm' look and with her innocent pleading eyes she moved towards the chimera. "Oh dear Chimera, you came just in time, I had gotten snagged up on a trap set up by a human! I fear they will take me and Phialynch away again," she moved closer, "please don't let them do that to us," her face sadden, her flesh paled, making every feature on her face become highlighted. The main notice were her eyes as she continued to look at the chimera, "he and I mean no harm, so please us-"

"Free the other bonded," Phialynch interjected into her mind.

"Okay fay," she made it look like she stumbled a bit back down to the ground so that her sudden stop in words did not look like she was thinking up something different, oh how she loved to be such the actress, and then it hit her. "We have grown weary with all of the abuse those human fiends have done to us, and we wish to help them, would you, oh noble creature, join us?" For the first time that whole time she actually allowed the creature to speak back to her, sometimes when she got into her actress mode of being the poor defenseless creature, she could drone on for a while, of course all of it looked like she was in desperate help so it worked out greatly. Even Phialynch believed her most of the time.

Far down below, a family of badgers snarled, bit, and played with each other. In a small clearing, where burrows were made into the old trees underneath their roots, they popped in and out, hissing, and yelping their calls. Above, as Enero and Ophelia danced with the skies and winds, it was almost unbearable to listen to their play as their stomaches growled hungrilly. The smaller, earthen dragon, the young female who could form into such a thing from human, was growling annoyingly at Enero, beckoning him to go down with her. But, as usual, Enero wanted to stay in the skies, to watch and decipher her moves. "Training" one would call it, but ti Ophelia, pure torture. They had only been in the wild for little under two weeks, and Ophelia could be marked as one of the clumsiest, worst hunter a dragon could ever be. When she dived, claws outstretched for the attack, jaws ready to snap, she couldn't seem to steady herself right with her legs, and she would either land on the prey and hit the ground... or hit the ground only. Enero would be up in the sky, laughing through her mind, and with soar wings, she'd have to go up while growling and listen to more lectures on how to do it. Eventually, he'd be the one hunting again, to her own disgust.

I don't see why we can't just do it together, Enero. Her voice cooed in his head, trying to persuade such manner, as her wing nipped against his side. Enero quickly darted ahead with only one surge of his wingbeats, and actually flung her back a little bit through the air. It was Ophelia's turn to snort and snarl at her companion, much louder in the skies overhead than the badgers below. But, through her anger, she finally sustained herself in the air; ahead, Enero did the same thing, staring at her as his golden sliver of eyes continued to glance at the badgers. With a stubborn movement of her body, Ophelia moved forward slowly, gliding in a wide circle as she stared down at her prey. She'd give in again, but this time, she would do it. I'll show him!

'I can hear you. Enero's voice chuckled deeply. She had completely forgotten for a moment. Ignoring him, Ophelia made a sharp turn, and beat her wings downward, as hard as she could. Before she was even close to the badgers, or even the forest top, she folded her wings in and dived, mouth opening only slightly for a quick snap, hind legs and forearms stretched forward like an eagles with her claws erect. She gained speed quickly, and before she was over the badgers, just barely skimming the top of the trees, she snapped her wings open, a father badger not even knowing she was there. Ophelia landed on the badger as all the rest scurried off in the action fo a second, squeeling and frightened, while the one under her snarled, yelped, growled and tried to bite it's way through her claws. Before he could do anything to the palm of her claws, where there were no strong scales, Ophelia snapped the poor things neck.

Although she hadn't brought herself up, forgetting to, she had gotten a badger. As she looked up in the sky, she was surprised to Enero wasn't there. Huh. Probably catching a deer or something. he probably was indeed; badgers were too small to feed such a large creature. This adult badger would only feed Ophelia's stomache alone, and probably not even fill her stomache completely. And, just as she thought, there was a loud snarl in the distance, and beating, as Enero rised from the clearing of trees, a dead figure held in his back talons. Ophelia quickly opened her wings, all the way, and surged into the air and he whipped past her area overhead. As she trailed behind him, trying to catch up, Enero's voice laughed in her head. He was obviously in a good mood.

'You forget to surge upward. Remember that next time. But at least you got it; I'm proud of you.'

But Ophelia didn't answer. She only tried to figure out how to do it in her head, again.. the mistakes she made, how to fix it. Enero only told her the same thing over and over again; how was she to learn from that? Ahead, Enero spotted another break in the trees, the very spot they claimed 'Home' for now. But, with thoughts of hunting past, her stomache so starving for food as flying drained her, it was almost welcoming.

Axis rippled his teeth back in fair warning at the basilisks as the female drew close. He kept his six eyes firmly on the ground, but six ears perked and drawing in the slightest sound. He could tell the female was drawing nearer, and panic filled him, instinct screaming at him to take to the skies where he was amongst the most feared of flying creatures, besides dragons.

The female's sweet voice penetrated his ears and immediately, Axis felt the urge to look up. Her words were all very well, but Axis still mistrusted her. His feathers and fur stood on end as she drew ever nearer. Axis involuntarily backed up a step but then remained firm. Although there was no reason to mistrust the basilisks, instinct told him otherwise. Chimeras and basilisks didn't always get along, and chimeras with multiple eyes were often victim to the basilisks' penetrating glare. Axis refused to try and use one of his fake heads to see if they could meet the basilisk's glare.

"You speak very prettily, basilisk," Axis growled out into their minds. "Charming and alluring words lace your voice, but I am not ordinary. If you wish to try and enchant me with seductive looks and sweet words, you shall be disappointed." He shook himself, sending loose black feathers floating and fur dropping. His feathers continued to stand on end, making him appear larger than he really was. His huge wings shuffled restlessly on his back.

"But you should not waste time on words. What are you doing out here, asking strange creatures for help? Surely you should be reconnoitering the fortress and making plans, hm? If you keep acting, pretty basilisk, you shall get nothing from me."

Faraday meanwhile watched the two angels as Axis confronted the basilisks. She could still sense his thoughts, and knew he was safe. Faraday let her eyes roam to the angels' wings, widening in awe at the beauty of their wings. Her own shuffled dryly against her back and she smiled mentally. Maybe their wings were more decorative, but hers had their own purpose.

"What do you two know of basilisks?" she ventured. She wasn't sure if they would attack now that Axis was gone, but she doubted it.

Ruad and Madoc exchanged nervous looks when the formerly-human of the two said that they were from the labs, though Madoc broke the contact as soon as he realised that Ruad was looking back. Instead, he glared fiercely at the ground, lifting his eyes to look at the two chimeras only when he didn't look so angry. He wasn't, for all his piss and vinegar, stupid. Starting a fight with two potential allies would be folly, especially since they'd only just escaped the labs. Madoc's opinion of the two as "potential allies" only solidified as the girl added that she didn't serve the labs. "Sounds pretty vehement about it, too," Ruad murmured to Madoc. the human responded by shifting away a little bit.

Ruad eyed the true chimera not warily, but respectfully. He had known many chimeras in his long life, but had had a mixed bag with them. Furthermore, the history between angels and chimeras was a little... dark. Angelic lore told of the first chimera being created by Lucifer himself, for use in his war against God. They were not all evil, to be sure, but they were still absolutely not creations of God. But then, the angel thought, his eyes shifting over to Madoc, is he, anymore, either? It was something Ruad had thought about often. At any rate, it had made him a little more disposed towards ungodly creations.

"We are," Madoc called back to the girl in reply, his voice still sounding with the leftovers of anger. He found it interesting, how the one moved to protect the other. That was supposed to be Ruad and me, wasn't it... the human thought, anger burning in his throat. But it can't be. Ever. Madoc punctuated the last thought by strongly pushing the image of Ruad out of his mind. He saw his angel wince out of the corner of his eye, and wondered if it had somehow been more than a mental image. Madoc shoved down the twinge of regret he felt at having possibly hurt Ruad, too, and instead smoothed the hair over his left eye. The girl had been looking towards it as though there were something there.

It rather surprised Madoc when the larger chimera took off, though Ruad had expected it. After all, while the human had been daydreaming, Ruad had remained alert. He, too, had caught the scent of basilisks, and he figured that the chimera had flown off to check it out. Ruad cocked his head to the side a bit, then decided to stand. Madoc scrambled furiously to stand up before he did, but ended up almost tripping. He caught his balance again by using his wings, which caught the light of the moon in a way that made them almost glow. It made his blunder seem somehow graceful, even.

They were silent for a bit, then - silently watching eachother, the angels and the chimera-girl, until the latter posed a question. Ruad smiled, and Madoc scowled at his apparent pleasure. "I do, yes. I doubt Madoc knows anything of them - " the angel began, though he was cut off by Madoc's swift rabbit-punch to his side. They both stumbled a little bit, as Madoc felt the pain as acutely as Ruad did, then straightened, fire in both of their eyes. "Don't be such a moron!" Ruad snapped, falling into a fighter's crouch with an almost eerie ease for an angel. Madoc snorted, glaring. "Don't imply that I am!" the blond retorted hotly. Ruad clenched his fist hard, then glanced at the girl. "Do you have to be a p***k even in front of guests?" the angel asked slowly, knowing he had Madoc there. Indeed, the human turned beet red and looked down, glancing sideways at Faraday.

Ruad straightened also, brushing his hair back with one hand. "Sorry about that," he said, his tone implying Madoc's stupidity. "But what did you want to know?" Madoc crossed his arms and looked away, hunching his wings a little bit. Who knew an angel could look so petulant?

Faraday, confused, shifted her eyes from each Icarii. They certainly didn't act like a bonded pair. Sure, she and Axis had their own fights from time to time, but this seemed.... deeper, somehow. Faraday sank to the ground as the Icarii stood. Let them have a height advantage. She knew they probably wouldn't attack, though their animosity toward each other slightly indicated otherwise. Faraday slightly flinched when the blonde one punched the other, wondering. Suddenly, she yearned for Axis' warmth. Her taloned hands clenched at the hem of her shirt and her wings shifted nervously.

"Um, I... I was just wondering at what you know of basilisks..." She glanced between the two again, confused as to whether she should continue. Perhaps she should leave them to their own devices? However, Axis had wanted her to stay, so Faraday folded her wings against her back.

Finally, curiosity got the better of her.

"You don't act like a bonded pair," she blurted. Her mismatched eyes widened slightly in horror, clapping her hand against her mouth. Did she just say that? Instantly, she was enveloped by her shyness. Her natural instinct was to follow up with a nasty remark, but Axis mentally jabbed her. It wouldn't do to upset these two Icarii.

"I... I mean, why did you just...?" She looked at the blonde one, the upset looking one, then glanced toward the other. He seemed the calmer of the two, thought she still wasn't sure.

Ruad's eyes narrowed, and he glared at Madoc. Faraday's tone told him that they'd just managed to do exactly what he hadn't wanted to - make her uncomfortable. Madoc knew it, too, and knew it was his fault. He ground his teeth a bit in frustration with himself and his short temper, and frustration with all of this. Why couldn't he just not have been born?

Ruad winced at that, too, though Madoc didn't notice. He turned halfway to look at his bonded, his expression one of worry and conflicted love. Madoc's thought there hurt Ruad more, and on a more important level, than when the human had landed the mental blow. Whenever Madoc had thoughts like that... It made Ruad's heart bleed for the human, and perhaps see it all in another light. Madoc still drove him crazy, but... How easy can any of this have been for him? He, a human? Ruad made a motion as if to reach out to Madoc, then let his hand fall and turned away. He would have shaken me off anyway, Ruad thought, taking a deep breath to recompose. Madoc pretended he hadn't noticed any of it.

Ruad was about to finally answer the chimera-girl when she blurted... Both Madoc's and Ruad's heads snapped towards her, though neither seemed particularly offended. Madoc just laughed when she continued on to ask "why". "Because I hate him," he said, not looking at his bonded. Something in the tone of his voice, though, made it sound as though he were trying to convince himself... His words simply rang with the hollow tone of a continuously repeated lie. Ruad clenched his jaw and looked pointedly away from Madoc. "We don't get along," the true angel amended flatly, though something in his voice hinted that there was something more to it as well.

We get along too well, really... Ruad thought, sighing inwardly. Too well for Madoc's taste... A flash of anger crossed his face in the aftermath of his thoughts. Ruad's fist clenched and unclenched briefly by his side before he let it rest. We can fight later... Just not in front of her. We probably need her help, the angel told himself, looking at her. "Sorry about that. We'll try not to fight... Right, Madoc?" Ruad asked pointedly. The human glared. "Just wait until we're alone," he muttered, too quietly for the girl's ears but easily heard by Ruad's. To the question, though, he nodded. Ruad smiled grimly, knowing the fight that would take place then. But for now, it looked like he and his bonded would be feigning peace.

Good. Finally... The thought echoed in both of their heads, coming from neither one in particular. Both let out an inner sigh of relief. Even if it was just "pretend", it was something they both wished for.

Faraday's brows furrowed. Hate? But... they may be two different beings, but in all reality they were one and the same! That much she had learned after two decades of being bonded with Axis. She drew her legs up to her chin and rested her chin on her arms. The angels she regarded with solemn, mismatched eyes. The tension between the two of them was clearly palpable. As she watched, Faraday noted the body language between the two.

Oh, Axis... How I wish you were here...

She could feel Axis' mental brush against her mind. The touch was comforting and Faraday felt slightly guilty as she watched the two angel-men. Here she was, revelling in the touch and comfort her bonded brought her, while these two spurned such feelings.

The black-haired one spoke, and Faraday nodded, not really convinced. The blonde one looked the angrier of the two and had to wonder at that. Her talons began to dig into her skin while she thought. She winced slightly and pulled them away. Although she and Axis had fought frequently over the years, they had never treated each other with such animosity. But she didn't know the angels, and so she should stop minding their business.

"Well," Faraday started, looking between the two again, "about the basilisks... my bonded is actually with them right now, and he's too busy to talk to me. I know a bit about basilisks, but... could you explain them for me?"

Again, the angels' animosity toward each other began to make Faraday uncomfortable and shy. And, to cover up that shyness, Faraday drew on her mean-spiritedness.

"Unless, of course, you two would rather go fight and rip each other and yourselves to shreds," she said rather coldly. She could feel Axis' mental jab that, if he had been with her physically, would have been made with an elbow or talon. However, Faraday ignored the jab and watched the two angels with cold anger.

"Here you two are, so near to killing each other, and the others within the fortress are missing the warmth of their bonded because they've been forcibly separated. And yet you two stand here, free, and facing each other with such animosity when all the other bondeds yearn for their partner."

In her mind, Faraday knew all this was bad to say, but years of covering up her shyness with foulness was a habit not about to be broken.
