Do you read books intended for young readers?
  Yes, they're still great stories.
No, I find them too simplistic for my tastes.

Petit Four
I also read children's/young adult books as part of my job, but I think that I would read them even if I didn't have to! I love the quick pacing of the books (I can get through 3 or 4 YA novels in the same amount of time it would take me to read one of the denser adult titles) and I feel that there's more creativity and whimsy in the stories. Most of my favorite books weren't written for adults.

There are picture book authors that I LOVE (Mo Willems, Adam Rex, Bob Shea), and I'll show their books to adults, and they always love them too, even though the books are only 30 pages long. A good book is a good book is a good book, no matter who the target age group is!

Mo Willems! Yes! He's one of my new favorites with his Piggie & Elephant series of readers.

I'm an adult, but I can often be found in the childrens section of the library. Personally, I find a lot of series aimed at younger audiences to be more engaging than a great deal of 'adult' literature. My favorite author right now would have to be Angie Sage, so every time she comes out with a new novel, I find myself once again tromping through the land of tiny bookshelves...

I've given up listening to people when they tell me that a book is below my level. They come out with new books all the time and I was born the wrong year to take advantage of that, oh well.

If I only read books aimed at my demographic all I'd read is smut and textbooks. Ugh. I still adore Bruce Coville's Alien Ate My Homework series even though it's clearly marked for 8+. I reread The Secrete Garden and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland constantly. Books like Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book we're around when I was in the age group. I've got to make up for it while I can. And honestly I appreciate the whimsy, characters and hidden "grown up" references far more now than I ever could have as a child.
