Zeki continued even after having his tail grabbed, he figured it was just Tues batting at him or something playful, nothing serious or what not. It was before long that he felt like something tugged on him that caused him to trip over himself and flop down onto the ground. Graceful... very very graceful. He looked back over his shoulder and smiled anyways.

"I talk like that sometimes, sorry, Safuma," he chuckled. "And if any crocodile tried to hurt ya, leave 'im ta me, I'll take him out in two hits!"

He looked quizzically back at her. "Me? Now what sort of dangerous secret do I know of that would have your mum hurt me? And besides, Ophos is not the strange creature. At least, not stranger than a water loving female I could name right now."

It was hardly a serious gesture, though definitely meant to get his attention focused on the fact that the two of them were cubs. He had no reason to act like a grown up, and it certainly didn't impress her, so she did the best way she could think of to make him stop. Swatting at his rump when at last he stopped, she released his tail from her teeth with a scoff.

"If I want to talk to a babysitter, I'll go back to the Rock. But yeah right, a crocodile would eat both of us in one bite. Wait til we're older. How about we make a deal; I stay away from crocodiles and you don't talk like a grown up?"

When he accused her of being a strange creature, she gave him a playful, mocking pout before swatting at him once again, "I'm not strange, and Ophos is strange. He's a hyena, after all. Not a preybeast, but not like us, either. And yeah, Ophos. Mom would hurt you for Ophos and you know it. That's why we gotta keep it a secret."

Zeki drew a paw to his chin and gave a gesture of deep thinking. He smirked and offered it. "Alright, whatever you say, Safuma. If I talk like a grown up again, you can kick me. Alright?"

He could not help but chuckle. He was trying to seem brave and confident in his abilities. Though the best he could do was take on another cub or even a juvenile on a one on one bout but that would be rare. He would try to avoid fighting if he had the choice. Fight to defend, never to harm. He smiled.

"How about you both are strange. Besides, what makes you think I was talking about you anyways," he grinned. "that's right, a secret. One that is yours, mine, and Ophos'. Just because he's a hyena, it doesn't mean he's all that different from the rest of us. He has a heart too."

"I'll do more then kick you." She raised a paw and flexed her toes, revealing the sharp claws before giggling to complete the joke. She'd never intentionally hurt Zeki if she could help it.

His explanation of Ophos made her pause, her brow arching as she considered what he had said. She'd been raised to view hyenas as a species entirely different from their own; a dangerous, treacherous race that would soon as eat you than befriend you. She still didn't trust Ophos completely, and would never agree to meeting him without Zeki's presence (atleast not until she was older). Her crimson eyes creased for a moment before she nodded solemnly and shrugged with a sigh, "Whatever you say, Zeki. I don't think a heart makes him easy to trust, but I trust you. I promise I won't tell."

Zeki took a moment to let her first comment sink in. 'do more than kick you' ... 'do more than kick you' .... then it hit him. It had occured to him that his Uncle Kinari once said that females liked to kick and any male that did was a female. He shuttered as he remembered the last part as he slowly curled himself into a ball while sitting there, covering himself up. Though his uncle was an idiot and usually spoke nonesense, he did not want to risk the possibility of that happening. "Well, if you do, please kick me somewhere safe?"

"Well, at least, I was told never to distrust anyone unless I have reason to. A valid reason. Just because my father said that hyenas were dangerous, then why was my father's close friend's son a hyena? Ophos is that hyena's son. So we can be friends..." he paused. "Alright, that made no sense, but it works in my head." he pouted a little.

"Thanks, Safuma, I appreciate it. That is why you are the closest female I have for a friend," he paused again. "I worded that wrong, didn't I?"

She watched him curl up with an arched brow, confused by his sudden submission until at last he spoke. At his words, she laughed brightly and reached out to cuff him gently by an ear, "Sure, silly. I'll make sure to take good aim before I let the fur fly."

"Well, not all of us have the benefit of being raised specifically by our good-natured family." That sounded more biting then she intended and she grimaced, tail violently snapping over the dust to creat a little cloud as she mumbled, "Sorry, Zeki. That came out wrong." Looking up when he mentioned she was his closest female friend, her crimson eyes creased with a smile before giggling, "Well, you're my closest friend that isn't my sister."

"Well, the thing is, I am an only cub, Safuma. I don't get the chance to have brothers and sisters like you. You have the entire pride behind you because you are the Queen's daughter, the princess. I just have my family and my friends," he looke down a bit. He never thought of the day of preaching like this. At least, never to her. He was talking about what he believed what she went through. "I like to hang out with you, Safuma, but I guess the Pride does need their princess to be safe and sometimes the things I do isn't. I mean, telling you about Ophos is dangerous, right?"

He paused.

"I can protect you sometimes, Safuma, but there are just some things I can't. I can only defend unless being attacked, that is what I have been told," he nuzzled her a little. "Being raised the way I am is harder than you think, you may be able to go to far away places, but things out there aren't like they are here. There are a lot of dangerous things outside of the Pride lands and I would not be here if my father didn't know where he was going."

He paused again.

"I don't know why I am even telling you this actually... you live a good life and I do too, our parents care about us and that is all that matters, right?" he blushed deeply after preaching all that for no good reason at all. He quickly changed the subject as he hopped to his feet.

"Come on, lets get to the water hole before it gets late. I'll take you home after if you like."

It was rare for Safuma to talk about her family, other then in generalizations and happy afterthoughts. She would never look for someone to rant to about any of them, even Sarakiva who she often found she had to grin and bear. She still loved Sara, and usually said nothing ill of any of them. However, if ever she were to complain even the tiniest bit, it would be to Zeki. The only lion out of her family who she trusted with such words.

Her tail still slashed across the dirt violently a few times, kicking up a bit of a dust cloud as she mumbled disheartedly, "Yeah, but it's not like I get to see them ever. Or Mom, or Dad. Everyone's busy. Princess or not, doesn't mean everything's peachy, Zeki." Her brow furrowed. She didn't think she'd ever spoken to him about her missed opportunity - the loss of her position as heir. It wasn't often she dwelled over it, and Zeki was always so good about keeping her occupied otherwise.

Never one to let dark clouds bring her down, Safuma only took a few more seconds of grumpiness before she giggled at his assertions. "Yeah right, Zeki, I can protect myself better then you can." She stuck her tongue out at him before headbutting his shoulder gently, "Okay, but we can't be gone too long. I'm sure some Nanny or another is looking for me already."

He rubbed his head a little as he felt as if he had hit a rather sore spot of his dear friend. It seemed like her family was a lot different than his. At least with him, he was able to spend lots of time with his father. Safuma did not get that pleasure. He felt rather guilty now. He had a lot of trust in the female, it was the reason why he brought such a terrible secret like Ophos to her. He couldn't bear the secret by himself for too long before stressing heavily over it. He knew Pam and Leji knew but they were not part of the pride to really care about it.

"Well... if you can't spend a lot of time with your family... you could always spend time with me and my Dad if we happen to stop by the Royal Den or something... I mean, we're cubs, we are suppose to play together, right?"

He chuckled as he got up and started to move with her. It was always amusing how things changed so suddenly.

"Yeah, just for a while and then I will take you back. That is what my father would want me to do," Zeki smiled. "Come on, I'll race ya!"

With a soft chuckle, he rushed off ahead toward the water hole. The sun was setting soon and the two will have to head back home sooner or later. Though he wished he could spend some more time with the Princess, they had their own families to return to. Until another day of course.
