"I suppose you're right." Cressida nibbled at her cookie, watching Walter thoughtfully. 'You know, Walter, you're really a very clever young man. Ice must be proud of you."
A clang interrupted anything Walter had been about to say in response as the combined forces of Quixana and Courage toppled the heavy metal barrel to the ground. Cressida looked over immediately, lips pursing. "Xana?" she called.
"Shush, Mommy," he ordered, looking over his shoulder. "The princess doesn't know we're coming to rescue her. That's important."
"But..."
As if the wobble in her voice made her worry clear, Xana sighed and sat back on his heels. "Don't worry. We're not gonna wreck the playground."
Tell her that there is metal inside.
"Courage says we found treasure and it'll be all okay."

Oblivion's eyes glowed a bright blue and she raced for the fallen trashcan, not even bothering to look inside before she took a bite out of it. This had been a great idea!
"There's the distraction!" Walter said cheerfully as he finished off his cookie. "Now he's got to distract me."

Quixana paused, thrown by Oblivion's quick reaction. He hadn't meant for her to eat the entire can! Mommy was going to be mad, probably. Courage tugged at his sleeve with her teeth. Hurry. Hurry.
Shaking his head, he followed her. She was right. If they kept Cressida from looking that way, they would get in less trouble. Waving his hands as he ran, he called out, "Hey, Walter! Walter!"

"Yeah?" Walter said as he licked the lingering traces of chocolate off of his fingers.

"There's some girls playin' that volleyball game over there." Quixana pointed in the direction of the sandpits. Distant movement could be made out that might have been college girls bouncing around after a volleyball.

It worked. Even with as young as he was, Walter liked the ladies. He hopped off of the bench and started running, intent on offering to cheer for them ALL.

"Well, now." Cressida giggled and held out her hands to Quixana. "It looks like you've found the wicked Sir Walter's fatal flaw, darling angel." Obediently, he trotted over and allowed her to lift him to her lap, cuddling in and kissing his hair. "You're very clever. You and Courage are my perfect knights. I'll have to tell your Father so he can be proud, too."
The little boy flushed and hid his face against Cressida's neck, hugging her back. "Mommy," he muttered. "Don't be silly."
"I'm not being silly." Releasing him, Cressida allowed him to slither to the ground. "Let's go rescue Walter, Xana. We have to get him home."
"Okay!" Not waiting for her, the little boy and his lion took off running. She watched them go and then gathered up her purse with a smile. Kids grow up so fast.
