I don't think that Rock music should be censored; the majority of it does not have the profane language in it that hip hop and rap do. I don't know too much about rap or hip hop, except for the fact I don't like it.
Then again, I would say Rock is too generalized now. It went from in the 50's: Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, ect, to the 60s: The Beatles, The Who, The Guess Who ect, to the 70's: Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, David Bowie, ect, to the 80's: Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Queen, ect: I think the 90's made the genre a little too broad. Now it's a HUGE genre, moreso than Hip-Hop, I'd say.
But then again, I think it's up to the record labels and music stores as to what they sell or produce. As for aduls raising their children; Only listen to what you'd like your child to be influenced by, take precautions so you don't have to explain what sex is, ect.
xD My mom was horrified when I wanted an Eminem CD when I was 11.
So in conclusion: I would say yes to it being in our society; but with censoring.

She lay down on the grass, Looking up at the sky, thinking, it’s all she can do. If she disappeared she would not be missed. She will be gone just like everyone else.
Getting up from the grass, she walks on the sand, looking outward towards the sea. She walks into the water high up above her knees.

I don't know the background to rock or hip-hop well enough to be having this discussion, but I feel that censorship is not necessary. If one swears, they do it because it adds passion, and meaning to the song.
I don't like rap, nor do I know too much about it, but if you look at certain rap songs [not all], you can hear profanity in every single sentence. Sometimes it's just the same word said over and over and over again, and that has no meaning. But I have no problem with it if it is used moderately and to convey a feeling or thought. I swear in every day speech, because sometimes it's the only language that can show my frustration or feelings. But I swear moderately. I don't say something like "**** you motha-******, you ****, go burn in hell. You worthless piece of ****!" I don't do that, but rap does it more than that and more than that is too much. I also dislike hip-hop, but I can deal with it more than I can with rap. [There is some kind of rap that I can stand, like the old Linkin' Park. But the quick-rhyming, profanity, and un-musical sentences, I cannot stand. It doesn't sound like music, just noise on top of talking rhythms.] Don't get me wrong, I don't think rap is the most vile music alive. To different people, it has different meaning. To me, I dislike it and that's just me. To me, I think it's hideous, and trash, but I don't think that people who sing or listen to it are trash themselves.
With rap I feel like they create songs because they want it to become censored, it's their thrill. With other songs, censorship just takes the meaning away, and that's not right. It's like taking a whole chunk out of one's personality. Saying, no, you can't be like that, it's not appropriate. Just imagine going up to a Rocky Horror fan-freak and covering them up because it's not appropriate [even though for different ages it might not be, but I don't think humanity should be afraid of sexual meaning. It's all natural].
That's my opinion, and my opinion only. please do not get offended, or try to tell me that I am wrong. I perhaps am, because I don't know the history of rock and hip-hop, but you don't have to flame me for it.

The water is high up to her hips. The wave comes towards her. She looks at the wave with her arms stretched out; the water starts to rage, the wave hits her body hard. Then the water calms down. The water recedes, then darkness falls, and all goes dark. The sun goes down and the day is done.

Rap is mostly filled with large amounts of swearing where as in rock and metal the swearing is in less songs but as stated above it adds meaning and passion to a song. like in the twisted sister song "under the blade they say "now you are under the f*cking blade or at least in the live version they do. Where this may not be a needed word it adds to the effect the song is about thought surgery of the drummer and it shows the passion of the band for there music

why censor then its not the music how they made them if you don't want to listen to uncensored music then just don't !! If they swear in their music, they only do it because they think it's better for the song !! smile

i think that most rock songs should be allowed without censoring, but some contain material that should be censored because of excessive swearing or explicit content, i won't pretend to know anything about hip-hop so i won't judge it

Are you saying creativity is wrong? That artists are not allowed to think or have opinions? Are you saying that there cannot be beauty or passion with swear words? Even slang, when used appropriately, in some song's cases it is used very appropriately, is part of the English language.
Referring to your previous post: There are many Rock bands that write their own songs, and there are many country singers that have companies write their songs.
Also, if a parent didn't want their young child to listen to explicit songs they wouldn't let them, but these songs shouldn't be censored for the age group they are made for. You'll most likely not hear a children's song with explicit language, because no one swears in children's songs. And if they do, it is not for children.

I wasn't saying any of that. I was just making the statement. That there is a difference in a song with cus words and cuss words with a song. That just because they think it makes their song better, doesn't make it true.
I also know that. That is why I avoided the word "all". I said one could argue and "many" I was just tring to show he/r that country is music wether s/he likes it or not.
It isn't that hard for a 5 year old to find a radio and turn to the rap station. Parents can try as much as they like, but they can't watch their children 24/7. Parents have work, kids are left home with their older sister/brother. Even if the older sibling doesn't listen to music that has cuss words, how hard is it for the kid to go to the entertainment center and turn on the radio to the rap station?

SushiJen personally, for me. its like screw the censorship. if people dont want to hear profanity, then they dont have to buy the music. artists shouldnt feel that they have to edit the music just because some people cant take profanity. to be continued... i agree

I think Hip Hop isn't really an educational and meaning-full genre. I mean, Rock for example, it has much more understandable lyrics then Hip Hop and Rap and all that s**t.
Hip Hop is a bit too fast to understand what they're singing (or almost saying), and like someone here in this thread (don't know her name) said : all you can hear is 'Yo Yo Yo'. And i'm not being racist or something but if blank people are going R&B and Hip Hop kinda way, i'll have to laugh at the and say 'What The ******** my statement at Hip Hop. D:
Now Rock is much more understandable and has a meaning in their lyrics, like saying 'I Love You' in a large and long kinda way. I don't really have anything to say about Rock. It just doesn't suck and it doesn't have any repeatable lines (except for the chorus, but that's not the point now). It fits in the circle of teenagers, as how i call it. ;D

I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. Hell, let people listen to whatever genre they please. It's not the government's job to choose what free people can and can't listen to. I don't really like hip hop, but if someone wants to listen to it... all the power to them. There's no such thing as "bad" music--everyone has different tastes, and in this case different morals.
Oh, and Dan Quayle's a tight-a** Republican conservative. As far as I'm concerned, he's about as "culturally deep" as a drunken hick. And I know you do the same things, too. So we're really not that different, me and you.

I think that If People don't want it around, they dont have to listen to it. There ARE PARENTAL ADVISORY Labels on Cd s that may seem inapropriate to others. And as for allowing it in society and the public, people should have their ways to express themselves, as long as they follow the law. I mean, yea you probably wouldn't want to go blast out your music in the middle of a very public place because there are some ppl that may not want to hear that music or the lyrics, but as long as you are respectful, I see nothing wrong.

Yeah but sometimes the parental advisory stickers go too far. There are stickers that block out the awesome art work. I mean some of it shows too much like cannibal corpse. I like them by the by. But dose this really deserve a big black bar? http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001CAL.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpgYes, I don't think this is normal but it is not vulgar or depict any sexual acts or nudity.

What you mean by rock? I dunno, but it's kind of...sick, when people are admiring guns in their rap songs. Rap your asses out of sex, vagines and your dicks, but dude...guns. It just one good example about dual moralism again. Guns and other violence is so long ok, but if a bare boobie is shown in music video, it'll be labeled "The sickest stuff ever" and rated for 18 and over.
