well, i got started playing bass about a year ago because my band teacher sat me down one day and said that he didnt think i was to good with the guitar. He said that he could tell that i liked lower sounding music, the big booming kind of stuff. thats when he pulled out a Spector Performer 4-string bass and told me to try it out. he showed me how to play with my fingers and i was instantly interested. about 6 months later he ended up giving me that bass (the one i have now) after i had gotten better. Hes really the person that got me started, but my influences in my style of playing, the type of music i play, and my love for the bass come from mainly Geezer Butler, Rudy Sarzo, and Les Claypool.

Well, I guess it was a mixture of a few things. One day, out in the parking lot after school, a drummer friend of mine had a Primus CD on and he let me listen along, I asked him what was making all that bad assed noise and told me it was a bass, which I didn't know what it was, so I found out that one of my other friends was a bass player in a band, so he let me borrow his old as hell Yamaha which was heavy as s**t and the neck had been broken near the head stock and had been penny nailed back in to place with a little piece of wood until my uncle bought me the bass I've got now, and I'm soon to be the owner of a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, as soon as I stop spending all my paychecks...

i used to play guitar, and found myself randomly picking rhythms on my guitar in harmony to the guitar line of a band i liked...and then my guitar teacher was sitting around before a lesson and playing slap, and i was like holy s**t, man what the hell is that? and then i was introduced to the bass and i started to play...

Sort of a combination.
Originally, my brother was telling me that I should take up bass. I tried to play the bass line from Therion's "In The Desert of Set," with him telling me what to do, and failed miserably. A couple of months later, he showed me how easy the bass line from The White Stripes' "Hardest Button to Button" was, and I thought, "ooh, neat, I can do this! =D" So that's when I'd say I officially started the bass - that was back in July this year (I'm something of a beginner.) Anyways, I built up a bank of songs, just a couple which I could play if I felt like it, but wasn't too enthralled. I learnt a coupla songs on the side, Smoke on the Water, Nemo, etc. Easy stuff. Then, along came John Myung. I always liked Dream Theater; but about this point I thought, "hey, these guys aren't just awesome, they're ******** awesome," and now I'm to the point of obsession. So, I was left stumped by most of Myung's fancy basswork... however, I managed to get "Lie" down, and that heartened me a little. Now I try and play pretty much anything. =P

Well, i got my guitar about a year ago and was recruited into my friends band shortly after that. I sucked horribly so i quit and fiddled around with my guitar a bit over the summer and fall. I got a Fender Telecaster this past christmas, which was cool, i also got a Drive Wildfire for christmas, and here i am. I'm workin on a song for my bass, should have it done soon.
