Well, I was gonna be the first to tektek this year, but I guess not. XD

Ah well. Now that I've gone through all that effort...

My Master Case Files characters! Starting with the main five (ETA: new Jack Master TekTek razz ):

User ImageUser Image Dr. Jack Randall Elliot Master - Freelance psychologist and criminal profiler for Blackstone Mental Institute and Scotland Yard, respectively.

Johnny Hartwin Wilkins - Caseworker for the Crown Prosecution Service User Image

User Image Dr. Rhett Leicester - Director of Blackstone Mental Institute

Nigel Odell QC - Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service User Image

User Image Dr. Lane Bradley - Head of Child Psychology at Blackstone Mental Institute

I'll come back to add Bradley's fellows and the five nurses that Master, the MC, actually trusts, later, in another post. 3nodding

Phrique: Are Master & Johnny supposed to be women? O_O Or is that just so you get more of a "boyish charm" look to them? XD

Master is also much stranger than I was picturing. O__O

I only have one character tekteked at the moment, and that's in her fancy clothes, not what she'd lounge around in. Hopefully I'll get some of the main ones tekteked, and then I plan on drawing art for them. I should add that to my SuWriMo Promise List. domokun

LOL No, these are all guys. Just for Master, Wilkins, and Bradley, the male base was too...big for them. Or muscle-y or something. Master's tall and lean and small-waisted, Wilkins is boyish, and Bradley's a pitiful little thing. I picture Leicester and Odell broader, so it worked for them, but Master and Wilkins--especially in that jacket that seems to have funny proportions (there just aren't enough normal suit-like jackets in tektek! XD) and that shirt Wilkins is wearing--it just looked to bulky for them. It's a compromise. LOL.

You were picturing him? Really? O.o I've never known anyone to picture my characters at all before I show them a picture, much less for what they were picturing to differ from what I was. If you don't mind me asking, how were you picturing him?

Beyond that, that's not the exact type of thing Master would wear--he wears a mix of early Victorian, a bit of Shakespearian/Renaissance, and thrift/retro things--but it's about as close as I could get. XP

--

...Is there a thread for drawn pictures of your characters? If there's not, there should be. I have a couple of those--MORE ACCURATE THAN TEKTEK XD.

Okay, back to finishing the nurses and secretaries (and BRUCE!!! <3).

I agree about the jackets! I was trying to tektek Daniel, and I wanted a blue suit first, but couldn't find one, so I had to settle for black. And I get what you mean about the bulky male avatars, too. Daniel's supposed to be tall and slinky. XD (He's about 6'2'', which led to funny issues because Yaozu is only about 5'4''. I dislike height differences. X_X ) But in the end, the female avatar was just a bit too female. Meh. They're only rough images, anyway, to give a picture of things.

I gave up on Yaozu, though. D= He normally wears a type of Chinese shirt. Basically plain colours but with the buttons up the front, the collar and all. It kind of looks like a student's uniform. XP Nothing on tektek worked for me. I guess I could dress him in something like Daniel would pick for him... o_<

It's just too hard to dress normal men. I should've gone with Bridget or Roxy. >_>

Anyway, after all that pointlessness - Yes. There is an art thread in the distraction forum. I shall hopefully have things there whenever my writing bug bites again. domokun

I wasn't picturing details, really. I just had this kind of generic Inspector image. Even if people post a description, I usually have something else in mind when I'm reading. I had actually pictured a bowler hat for some reason. XD And then some kind of tweed jacket, a moustache (because Inspectors should always have a moustache), and definitely not with purple hair. lol You may proceed to laugh at my bland imagination now.

Now that you say the Victorian/thrift look, I can see what you were going for with the clothes. But at first I was just thinking, "Bright red jacket, purple hair, pimp hat, heeled boots??" O____O;

PostPosted: Thu May 29, 2008 12:08 am

I agree! All my normal-ish guys came out almost identical save for hair/skin/eyes and some coloring. XD Bradley and Wilkins are the most different looking normal-ish guys. Still not exact. I think I might redo them on the male base now that my eye's been retrained (when I go a while without tekteking, I forget just how bulky the male avs are, but when I'm used to them it doesn't bother me as much. Meh.).

And the height differences are funny--I've forced myself to stop letting that bother me. A while back I tekteked (or was it candybar doll'd? I don't remember) my Whisper characters (referred to, affectionately, as MASA), and they're all different heights. Four mains, the tallest at 5'10" and the shortest at 5'1". The other two hover in the middle. The dollmakers just don't capture that. XD

I wish they had those shirts, too--I have a couple characters who dress like that.

Yay for art thread! I'll have to pop in there. biggrin And can't wait to see. domokun

LMAO--I'm not laughing AT you, I'm laughing WITH you. Srsly. It's just picturing Jack like that. I can't blame you, and there's nothing wrong with that--it strikes me as fairly Holmes-y and that was part of his inspiration--but you're right, it is very different. That's cool. XD

I wish tektek had bowlers. D: Master DOES wear bowlers. And top hats, and D'orsays, and berets, and fedoras, and cloches, and gatsbies, and trilbies, and opera hats, and even some homburgs. xd The pimp hat is the best looking hat tektek/gaia has (well, there's the zoot suit hat and maybe the puffy one, but not as much).

He's always had crazy-colored hair. He was something of a punk in his teens, and finally settled on purple after falling in love with the color (it was the Merton College, Oxford, school color). Johnny has learned to read his mood based on what he's wearing--darker, more cynical, lighter, more optimistic, ornate, happier, bland, more depressed, clashing, frustrated, contrasted, indecision, two-color harmony (like red and purple), good, normal mood. XD As for the boots, he likes really old styles. His taste in shoes is stuck in the 1600s or so. heart And those were, I thought, some of the closest to that. sweatdrop

...You know, that makes me think Bruce should have a moustache. As an inspector and all. I'll have to lend some thought to that. Or let people add it in if they want. XD

Alright--I've got another batch!

User ImageUser Image Doctors Asher Moore and Tristan Les--Bradley's two fellows. Yes, more female avvies 'cause I picture these two like a couple of little boys and the male avvies just didn't look right. XD Plus, the polyester jacket Moore has on looks HUGE on a male avvie. O.o

User Image Mrs. Kit Turner, Master and Wilkins' landlady. She's a young widow who rents out the top two floors of her townhouse as flats. The top is empty, and they use it as something of an attic. The middle one, a simple two-bedroom, single-bathroom, living/dining/den-area, is flat b, and belongs to Master and Wilkins. Flat a, on the bottom, Mrs. Turner herself lives in, with the only kitchen. She's cute and shares some of Master's taste in fashion--thrifty and retro and fun and colorful and a touch of gothic charm. heart She's also something of a mother-hen type, so she cares for "her boys" like they're her own. She cooks and cleans for them, lectures them, mediates arguments, and just loves them. XD

User Image And lastly for this post, Inspector Robert Bruce, one of the top inspectors for Scotland Yard. He hangs out with Odell, Master, and Wilkins, when on cases, doing the policing and legwork and details and evidence-grabbing part of the investigations.

The last post'll be the five nurses and Leicester's secretary. Getting into the side-side characters and "named extras" XD.

Quote:
I didn't mean I have trouble with tektek and height. I mean I like couples to be relatively the same size. XD I dunno. It's a strange bias. Normally I imagine people within a few inches of each other, so almost a foot is like OMG. @___@

Anyway, there's nothing in the character art thread yet this year. And I... OMG. Oh to the Em to the G-E-E. eek I just remembered that back when I was first making the comic which this story is derived from (and that comic was itself derived from something else) I started working on a large cast picture (in my usual cartoony style, but still) I think some of the characters need to be redrawn, but... Would I be lucky enough to still have that photoshop document??? *goes to check*

Heehee. Yes! My heart sank through three folders, but then the villagers were able to rejoice! I have the unfinished cast picture. XD

That's how much I wrote last night, and then when I opened Photoshop to see the file, it all went to hell. Half an hour to open a small file, 15 more minutes before I could move anything. Argh. Anyway, a lot of the old pictures need to be redrawn, and I'm not happy with how some of them look, but... At least it's something neat to start from. I also have the old comics themselves (A never finished story with no plot. Well.. it sort of had a long, rambling plot that wasn't portrayed very well. It's all about pacing in stories, and I got lost in drawing pictures. XD ) I... probably won't post them. At least not in the art thread. I'm thinking of making a thread in the 2008 stories subforum. Then I'll just post whatever excerpts/art I might have and link it all up on the first page.

Love Kit's style. X3 And it's a woman amid your cast of all men! =O My Unnamed Novel is one of the only things I've planned lately which has more male characters than female. It makes me sad. XD

All this posting in this thread, I swaer I'll put up tekteks eventually, but I wanted to get a majority of people done, and when making three versions of each (work, casual, fancy) it takes a while. >_>;;
PostPosted: Thu May 29, 2008 10:16 am

Ah, I see, with the height. Well, I can relate to that too. I always end up with crazy height differences. Sometimes it's cool, but for couples, I agree. Master and Wilkins are only a couple inches apart (then again, Misha and Alfie are almost a foot apart--they're the 5'10" and 5'1" guys--and they're really close). XD I'm all over the place, I guess.

I should post something. I wonder what I have...?

Yay! I love finding old pictures like that. I have a gazillion, two and a half computer's worth of PSP/Photoshop files, and a truckload of stray papers and old sketchbooks. rofl

Gawd, that's annoying. My old computer does that. It's a snail, only slower. D: That's a good idea, the thread. I think I'll just post it all in my livejournal (with a common tag, like "gaisuwrimos", I guess) and link to it in my sig. razz But I like the art thread, so I might post there. I dunno.

LOL thanks! She's so fun. I had her running around in my head, then I saw Kit Pistol from the most recent project runway and was like "OMG there she is!" so that's how she got her first name. And some further fashion ideas. It's a tricky style. XP

All my stories turn out biased towards men. Not in an anti-feminist thing or anything, just a majority of the characters are guys. I have no idea why. Well, that's a lie. It might be a cross of disdain for women in fiction spurring from seeing so many mary-sue types so young, and my need for balance in that I'm compensating for my crazily female-dominated family. I mean, seriously. For, like, three+ generations my family's been all women with the men married in. XD (Then my cousin goes and randomly has two boys in these last two years, but whatever rofl )

MCF has more women than most of my stories. Let's see...well, Oriel, out of its main cast, has four guys and three gals, so that's not too bad. Replica's Shadow...well, what can I say. D: It's about a fallen angel whose 77 descendants are cursed--the curse being that they're all boys who will never find true love with a woman. So that's automatically biased. And the 77th has two friends and together they make up something of a boyband, so there's that. I...think the only girl is the 77th's wife, and that's complicated XD. Doll House has...wow, cool, six and six. biggrin Granted, the MCs are mostly boys (something like four and one), but eh. Whisper is heavily biased, I think--the four MCs are all male, and a father/ex-boyfriend and two sons. But there's the nanny and daughter, and the huntress who's only in the first part. XD

...But really, there ARE more girls when you get into the side characters of MCF. The main five are boys, but most of the side-characters are gals. XD

You know, that's a good idea. I'm only doing a general "this is them" thing. I don't think I should bother with the versions, though, 'cause it's so hard to dress them at all. XD 'Specially Master--his casual is preferably a silky red robe, work is something like I've done, fancy is...hard to think about. rofl

And crappola, I'm getting caught up in writing up everything about this whole fantasy world premise bunny. An entire alternate world, solar system, planet, race, language...it's fun, but all-consuming. XD

EEE. I has nurses (and a secretary, and a sweet patient guy)! Hurrhurr. These are the only nurses Master trusts:

Nurse Enns! The Head of the Nursing Department at Blackstone, and Master's gossip gal. She has all the connections, all the "ins". wink
User Image

Nurse Mui! She's an adorable, EGL, Asian girl with a huge crush on Master (she wants him all to herself). She's so cute. It's hard to capture the "nurse" EGL-ish look with her tektek, but I kind of like it. :/
User Image

Nurse Watts! She's an older, classy lady who hates Master in all his quirky unconventional-ness.
User Image

Nurse Frantz! He always wants to be the "front", tries to upstage Master. He couldn't make it through med school (various reasons--family, financial, etc.) so had to settle for being a nurse and hoping to one day get his bachelor's in medicine and surgery and then a Ph.D. He's insanely jealous of Master, because Master gets away with practicing in psychiatry (very exclusively, might I add) without a bachelor's. So Frantz is Master's self-appointed rival. XD
User Image

Nurse Cantrell! He's a casual, laid back guy who just thinks Master's the coolest thing since the Gameboy. rofl
User Image

Nurse Wright! He's a super-ethical guy who stands by his morals steadfastly, and always "tattles" on Master--who has been known to pull stunts and whatnot. He always has to be "right". wink
User Image

Now, in the not-nurses part of this post, there's Leicester's put-upon modern-girl secretary, Ms. Rebecca Greyson!
User Image

Lastly, there's the wonderful, sweet, darling patient of Master's, Jeremy Huggins (lovingly inspired by Jeremy Brett, who played Sherlock Holmes on the Granada TV series in the 80s and early 90s heart )! He's only bipolar (like Master), but his health is poor and he has a ton of allergies, so he's unable to manage it. After his third or fourth nervous breakdown in as many years, Blackstone finally admitted him involuntarily. He was assigned to Master, and the fact that Jeremy's only bipolar gets to Master (the fear of the fact that it could be him, the sympathy, and, because Jeremy's such a sweetheart, the idea that it should be him). They end up pretty close, like kindred spirits of sorts, and Master adopts Jeremy's trademark nickname for everybody, "darling". (and for his tektek, well, again with the problem of creating average-ish guys. D: It's close enough. The bedhead and blanket are cute. XD)
User Image

Finally. I think that's the entire MCF cast. Now what? XD

EGL nurse. X3 I remember seeing NCIS the first time, and there's a goth girl (with like the longest legs I've ever seen. @__@ ) and my first thought was just, "How did she manage to get that job??" XD

Hooray for finishing your whole cast. =D Maybe now you'll have to start drawing them?

I have a binder full of loose printer paper, which is covered in sketches and randomness. Sometimes there are really cool things, but a lot of its crap. I just don't wanna throw it away. *is nostalgic*

I used to write almost exclusively male characters because I started off writing fanfiction. (And it was basically all male slash, influenced by too much anime. XD ) Then I think I was reading some typical "coming of age" story about the violent teenage boy who you'd hate in real life but you're supposed to sympathize with, and I just thought, "Why are they never stories with girls like this?" With girls, it's always about getting a boyfriend or discovering you're a princess or getting a horse. And I started thinking about it more and realized that most shows I liked had a majority of male characters, and the men were the more likeable ones (which is really odd because I rarely get along with men in real life). But it's like too many female characters just exist as love interest or bitchy foil or something else in relation to the men. So I try to balance it out a little.

But since Unnamed Novel was based on something else, females were limited. I changed the sex of at least one character, though. X3 And there were a couple others, but they were minor characters, and I'm not sure I'll include them... Nessa might be interesting, though. She's like this insane prophet. XD

Egads, I'm carrying bloasts into strange new areas. I feel I should post a tektek to justify my presence. XD

Here's Bridget. Her hair should be a bit shorter, and her nurse's skirt would definitely be longer, but it'll have to do. Then there's casual wear (although her cat should be gray), dressy, and "Biker Bridget" (packing heat!). XD
User Image User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. User Image User Image

And Caleb, who should look thinner. He's kind of a fragile guy, actually. XD And that hair's the best I could do. He tried to be a rebel in his younger days, so now he keeps the hair like that as a kind of "I'm cool. Really." thing. XD And I swear he doesn't look as dorky as that 2nd picture makes it seem.

And yes, there's a spider on his face for a reason. There are spiders in the novel. >_>

This is very fun, but my characters aren't exactly accurate. sweatdrop

User Image
Agna (MC, is a GUY, but he's also very short and skinny. This is his phoenix form, the only thing different in his regular form are that the wings are gone.)

User Image
Jareln (a prince, he's suppose to be of Nordic influence, but I just couldn't find that type of clothing)

User Image
Poulli (a thief)

User Image
Vasha (Agna's estranged older brother, he's actually a lot friendly than he looks)

User Image
Master Grallabrax Isnid (an eccentric wizard, older and crazier than he looks actually)

User Image
King Nicoli (Jareln's father, again, older than he looks and I really have no idea how a king is supposed to look. xP)

User Image
High Priestess Oruna (w/ Zal) (Leader of religious community in Negevan tribes, older than she looks, Zal is an albino orphan she found and is protective of)

User Image
Koaschey (a demon, not modern in any way, just to say, I had problems with his clothing, and he's supposed to be old, wrinkly and skeletal)

User Image
Gille (a shapeshifter)

I actually have a lot more characters, but these are just the ones that affect the plot/story in a major way.

I love NCIS. That's, uh...Abby, I believe. Thinking about it, I can definitely see some similarities in her and Mui. XD And that's a good question. I think Mui probably...either didn't dress that way for the interview, or got in some other way. Or was just outstanding enough that it didn't matter. rofl

I want to! I really want to. I wish my style was easier. XD I'll have to get on that. (I was drawing last night and had no sense of proportion whatsoever, so I'm more than a little rusty. ninja )

I'm the same way. I look back on stuff and think, "I once thought that was good?" But I can't throw it away either. XD

That's a good point, makes a lot of sense. I hate gender stereotypes. XD I think that's more why my guys all tend to be more feminine--Bradley's a softy, Master...well, you've seen him, and that's not even touching on Bavol and others. That's funny, actually; my women tend to hit middle ground--not the tomboy, feisty stereotype or the sweet innocent damsel stereotype--and the men are all softer instead of the gotta-be-manly or big tough guy stereotypes. I'm always one for balance. XP

Hey, we're partners in Bloast Crime. XD But still. I'd post a tek tek if I felt like uploading them (or making them) right now. razz

Those are adorable. I love the work, casual, and dressy forms (and biker biggrin ). And I love dorky. X3 (I'm a fan or RSL--the king of adorkable heart ) The spider's great. rofl

I've gotta do more of these. D: I have a strange love for TekTek.

You're so easy to read...

User Image

Snow. The hair is really off. But I didn't like the "romantic", which was closest to her real hairstyle. Really, the "romantic" and that hair style combined would be ideal. Everything else is pretty accurate though.

User Image

Aramy. Really, she wouldn't be caught dead with a teddy bear on her back. But I still think it fits her character design well. And why yes, she is supposed to look like the b*****d child of a target and a magical girl anime. Thanks for your concern.

User Image
Jack. His character design is SO far off from this. But this is as close as I could get it. He wears a lot more orange and purple and polka-dots.

I didn't do the others because I found them far too difficult. And I don't like toying around with tektek for that long. xD

But the book is boring me.

Davri and Nyte are going to be shown in their default styles, as opposed to how they dress whenever they need to fit in (every arc or so). And desert-y robes are hard to make on Tektek, so Innai and Renan's outfits will not be entirely accurate, but I do my best.

User Image
Davri, the older of my pair of protagonists. He's Nyte's magic instructor, protector, and is kind of an a**.

User Image
Nyte, the younger of my protagonists. He's still prepubescent, which is why it's a girl avi; despite his age, he learns quickly and is a fair bit more polite than his teacher.

User Image
Innai, the MC of the arc. He's Davri's great-grandnephew and is unusually cocky.

User Image
Renan, resident old guy (knows a fair bit more than he lets on) and Davri's grandnephew. Both Davri and Nyte find him easy to confide in about each other.

The twins; Jiang Lee and Tai Lee look the same, but their personalities cannot be more different.

User Image

Alayna Harris, a tomboyish character who meets our main characters at a coed sporting event. She attends an all-girl's academy.

Rae Peters, the protagonist.

I only did my four main characters.... I'll do others later. Have to get back to writing now, though. xp

Kharamel Kypo Bourouge. I tried to revision her outfit and her hair, and I love it! I really like the vest, and it shows off her various moods. It's great. <3

User Image
Redford. A odd person who she rescued from a bunch of dimensional berserkers. He doesn't remember his name, so he picked the name Redford due to liking the sound of it. It's fairly different than how I pictured him, but it captures his personality and his favorite outfit.

The dog collar is due to him acting like a bit of a servant toward Kharamel sometimes.

User Image
Alana. She's a crazy Dragon slayer who enjoys her occupation and gets handsomely due to how well she handles killing the dragons. She acts like she's three fries short of a Happy meal, but she tags along for some reason even Kharamel can't decipher. She is also a very good fighter with fast reflexes.

User Image
Alan Rainheart. A wandering Ruorouni with a blind eye turned toward how he looks very little like a Asian person at all. He is arrogant, flirty toward men and a bit of a Manho. I like him, thought. He's a great swordsman, and Kharamel employs him to be a bodyguard since she can't handle a Sword well herself.

I will have to do my other characters later, but I love this tekteks the best.
