Cody smiled, happy Jordan wasn't mad at him. He had promissed he wouldn't let anything bad happen. Yeah, he had rescued him but he still felt guilty for letting that occur. At least he was ok
At the sight of the shorts the boy let out a clicked whistle, pretending he want them back. Actually he would gladly continue the silly game of tag, but he understood when Jordan said he was tired. He was a bit too, mostly from carrying the dog man back to the beach
"Wockkieh" (Ok)

Jordan padded back towards the shore, picking up the shorts in his muzzle. They were dropped with a wet splotch into a heap. He’d let those bake on the beach for a few hours before taking them home with him. He kicked his hindlegs into the air, shaking water off of them as he treaded onto sand.
Then he turned his attention back to Cody. The playful dolphin had succeeded in wearing him out. Thank goodness he didn’t have to go further than the beach. And if he became too tired to make it home, Jordan could sleep under one of the many trees along the beach till he could make the journey back.
Jordan padded back into the water so he could be near Cody once more without the boy having to struggle onto the sand. He couldn’t help but feel so happy that his tail wagged extra energetically. He sat himself low so that he could give the boy a solid hug and a cheek-nuzzle.
“Ah’ve had a lot of fun wiff wu, Cowdy. T’ank wu sho much fow the great ahftanoon.” He wasn’t sure how to tell him he had to go. Jordan was sure Cody had to be lonely in the vast sea, but Jordan knew all he had to do was watch and wait. He’d be back. “Ah’ve had too much shun and ahm getteeng taiyud. Ish eet aw’ight ef ah ead oof? Ah promeesh tah come and veeshit wu ash often ash poshiuble.”

Cody returned the hug, chirping happily in a way to say he was glad Jordan was ok. But while the dog needed to dry up, the dolphin needed to return to the water and get his skin wet. His dark skin and his insulation were already demanding his body to cool off
"Yiieee yiaahh wuuohn phiuu. Ieck yierr kciiehrrc" (I had fun too. It was great)
The boy wasn't too worried about being alone again. Sad yes, but he was rather used to it by now. It was part of the normal routine, hunt, explore and search for company in the rivers and the sea But he was happy that Jordan would try to find him again. He would certainly patrol the beach more often, in hope to have another game of tag in the future
He returned back to the water, waving a goodbye as he skipped a couple of times before finally diving away. But in the sand laid a pile of seashells, forgotten by the boy

He waved and wagged his tail as Cody departed. The heat was getting to him as well. All that fur was murder in the direct sun. As he was turning to head back to the duplex, he stepped on something sharp and ridged. Looking down with a yelp, Jordan noticed the pile of sea shells that had been forgotten. Being the nice guy that he was, though, he'd rescue them for Cody and keep them safe till he next saw him, picking up each individual one in his muzzle and dropping it on the drying shorts in a pile.
Proud of himself and knowing Cody would be happy at such thoughtfulness, Jordan returned towards his duplex for a long rest in the chilly air.
