The young pup seemed breathless as he tried to catch his breath. He had obviosly been in a frenzy of some sort before he had come to her as his hair and shirt were a mess of sticks and dirt.
"Darine and Keen," the wolf heaved.
Dara's attention was emediatly grabbed by those two names, as they were her two bodygaurds that she had just realized never made it back to her side last night. Suddenly her expression changed from that of question to that of true worry.
"What is it?" Dara asked frantically. She now recognised the wolf in front of her as one in Darine and Keen's family. They would have surely gone back to lay with their family after they had checked back up on Dara.
"They are no where to be found," the wolf stated.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, ma'am," the boy nodded. "I and the rest of the family have searched the whole back, but they aren't here."
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention I will see to it right now," she said to the boy.
The boy nodded and ran back to join his family.
Dara chewed her lip. She had to find them, but what if a vampire had taken them and it was a trap... she needed some help but couldn't risk many wolves lives.

Dara turned to Matthias, worry still showing plainly on her face.
"I hate to ask this, but you are one of the best skilled fighters I've heard tell of in our pack..." her voice trailed off as she sighed and tried to put her scrampled thoughts back together. "Would you help me find them. If you are worried about loosing any business during this time I can easily compensate you..."
She sighed again. "I need to find them, and I don't want to take the time on gathering a bunch of us together..."
PostPosted: Tue May 08, 2007 10:57 pm

Matthias listened in silence as the boy relayed his message to Dara. He knew the names as well as anyone else. If one didn't know the names, they could only be a newborn or an outsider. The thought that the two had disappeared was somewhat disconcerting, but worse things had happened in the past. Of course, the times Matthias thought of were before Dara, and during his youth; merely faded memories of the "atrocities" vampires could perform.

He nodded confidently as Dara's attention fell to him. "Don't worry about my business," he replied quietly. "It'll be just fine. Matters of kin are far more important. I'll call in sick. Influenza. As for this... expedition. Do you have any others in mind that could help us? We'll surely need more than just us two." Whatever the odds were in the end though, Matthias would be content. He would get his fair share of action, should a conflict arise. He always did. He just wished had one of his weapons from home in his hands. Perhaps the war maul, or barbed hammer. They were his favorites, but honestly, anything would do. Hand-to-hand was exhilirating, but he doubted the vampires would dare play fairly, however "honorable" they thought they were.

Dara nodded at his question. There were two others Dara could trust enough in battle to bring them. "Pola and Drack," she whispered as she thought of them.
They were battle vets from way before her time on this planet, and were probably the two most solid in battle. They had lived in the time when the conflict was greatest and had shown a great diligence in battle under her parents. They were the only two that in a battle against over a dozen vampires she would place her bet on them every time.
"Wait here a second, please," she said. "I'll go and find them."
Quickly leaving to find them she brought them back as fast as possible after explaining the situation to them and they both agreed to help.
"They were last in the graveyard with me, last night," Dara was saying as she brought the other two back to Matthias. "What do you think happened to them?"
She posed this last question to either of the them or Matthias but quickly moved on as her mind moved to the worst of places.
"Come on, lets go," she said beginning to lead the way back into the forest but was stopped by Pola, who had placed a hand on Dara's shoulder.
"We should go ahead of you miss," Pola said. "We are more battle hardened than you and it wouldn't do if there was someone in there and they attacked you first before any of us could react."
Dara looked flustered at being told she couldn't lead. She didn't like her wolves going in front of her, for among the wolves it was both an undermining in her authority and made her apear a weak alpha.
"But-"
Her words were cut short quickly by Drack this time. "You are the last alpha of your line. Though some of your family is still alive, they are from your dam's side, while your noble birth comes from your sire's side. I don't know what's out there, but there is a great possibility that if they are vampires, they are aiming to kill you and have the pack just ripe for the kill in the chaos that would be amoung us. This is not an undermining in your strength or authority, just pure common sence."
Dara shook her head, not believing her ears but sighed and looked at Matthias as if for support.

Matthias waited in silence, his gazing gliding slowly over the many werewolves in the area. Those that met his gaze carried curious or confused or unsettled expressions. They were all understandable, but Matthias did not alter his unreadable face. His perusal of the clan ended when he heard and smelled the approach of Dara. Pola and Drack were two others that Matthias could easily recognize by name. He had a habit of remembering the names and faces of his elders, especially the true warriors. Pola and Drack were both true warriors in Matthias' mind's eye, and hence were well remembered. He gave a bow of his head as they came near.

And when, Dara later turned to him for his input on their plan of action, he smirked faintly. "I'll take the rear guard. It would be best if you weren't ambushed from the rear either." His position was obvious. He agreed in keeping Dara safe, even if it was against her wishes. Everyone knew she was not weak, and that the loss of her would create a chaos the Lucroi pack was not capable of undertaking at this point in time. If Dara had a mate, or an heir it would be different, but alas this was not so. Therefore, common logic did support keeping Dara in the middle of the group as they travelled. "Is there anything else that needs tending to before we leave? If not, I suggest we move now. The sooner, the better."

Dara growled, visibly frustrated at the turn of events, but was not about to continue to fight about it. One role of a good leader was to know when they were beaten, and Dara was thoroughly beaten on this matter.
Nodding her head at what Matthias had said she replied, "There is nothing left that I can think of. I want to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible."
Pola and Drack nodded and began to lead the way to the gaveyard, through the forest of trees. Sighing again in visible frustration Dara fell in behind them, staying alert for anything off, though she highly doubted she'd sence it before Pola or Drack.
Filled with unease at what they would find, Dara felt herself tense. She couldn't believe she had forgotten about her two bodygaurds and friends. She relied on them so much that she didn't even want to think about them being dead.
After going about halfway to the graveyard she saw Pola and Drack stop in front of her and quickly followed suit. Lifting her head a little she scented the air, though her human nose wasn't nearly as powerful as her wolf it was still better then any human nose or vampires for that matter. As she sniffed the air she smelled it. It smelled like fresh meat and blood.
"What is it?" she whispered.

Matthias was comforted that Dara had accepted defeat, although he was slightly dismayed at the indignant manner in which she displayed her discomfort at being overruled. Still, they were all partly human. So he let it slide out of his mind. He followed the trio quietly, keeping his eyes peeled, and often looking back over his shoulder to check for anything he may have missed. There was never anything out of the usual. At least, nothing until they arrived in the graveyard. Once inhaled, Matthias gave a forceful snort, pushing the air from his lungs. He knew the smell well enough, and was almost appalled that Dara had yet to recognize it. Well, he wouldn't spoil the surprise. He kept his silence, and moved closer to the group, hoping to get a slightly better view. It seemed likely that wherever the source was, it couldn't be far...

Matthias could feel himself tense slightly and he sighed, trying to relax. It helped, but didn't solve his problem. His nerves were on edge, and he was suddenly eager to start a fight. This was a part of himself he both enjoyed and hated; enjoyed because he couldn not deny that he enjoyed the act of brawling; hated because it required much self-control to keep himself from becoming irrational and idiotic like the many adolescent werewolves he had berated for being so brazen as to attempt assaulting him in his steadily inclining age. Thirty-seven wasn't all that old...

Pola and Drack shook their heads at her and slowly headed forward, ready for a fight at a moments notice. Dara took after them quickly, both eager to see what the smell could be and dreading it. Her heart racing, she was reminded how brash and young she still felt. She was not meant to ever rule being this young and inexperienced, but there was no avoiding the fact now as Dara followed Pola and Drack to the smell.
What she saw when they finaly reached the source of the scent, both apalled her and brought tears to her eyes. Her two bodygaurds were strung up like butchers meat, as they hung from their feet. They were disemblowled, with their intestines spilled out over their chest. Her bodyguards were in human form, that being the form they all reverted to in death. There were bight mark on their necks allowing her to know that it had been vampires and not humans. There was blood everywhere and yet none on the bodies, letting her know they had first disembowled her wolves, then taken their blood.
Dara turned away in horror. She had seen her parents murdered before her eyes but their had been nothing this bad done to them. Greif and anger struck Dara at the same time, just before an arrow came sailing through the forest missing her head by a fraction of an inch.
Pola and Drack quickly moved to protect her from the direction the arrow had come and Dara quickly funneled all her emotions into the one she could actually use and harness in this situation, hate.
As if out of sheer stupidity a small band of vampires appeared in the forest revealing themselves to the wolves.

As they stopped in the graveyard, Matthias gazed past the three ahead of him to spy the scene displayed before him. It was a grim and enraging sight to behold. Matthias' right hand was clenched into a tight fist and shaking like mad. His desire to crush someone with his bare hands had been exponentially increased upon seeing how barbaric the vampires were toward their enemies. Entirely dishonoring the very existence of those two... Matthias was ready for the battle he knew would soon begin. And as if on cue to his thoughts, an arrow whizzed by. He spun around to resume his job as rearguard. Three vampires stood in rank, cutting the werewolves off from the direction they had come. It was an expected move. Matthias's attack was not. After allowing the vampires a few cocky steps toward his position, the werewolf lunged forward over the small headstones and his fist met squarely with the middle vampire's temple. Caught by surprise, the vampire stumbled back, and tripped over a grave marker, landing on his a**. The two other vampires, both youthful and brash by their appearances, attacked Matthias simultaneously. He leapt away and they nearly had a head-on collision; one scratched the other's face, while receiving a large cut across his chest in return. Both yelped in surprise and nursed the injuries momentarily.

His shock attack had created the effect Matthias had desired. These three would be wary when dealing with the werewolf from now on. Matthias hoped they would be too timid, but expected the worst.

He glanced over his shoulder momentarily to get an idea of the situation, and make sure nothing of importance was happening behind his back. Most important of all, he had to make sure Dara was near, and in good health. So far, so good...

Pola and Drack charged the vampire's ahead of them as Dara channeled her magic. While most of the pack didn't deal with magic, she was an exception. Her father had trained her long and hard on how to use it to her advantage. Here in this graveyard, though, Dara's magic was increased tenfold, for all the magic of her fathers and mothers lie in this earth, eagerly awaiting to be summoned once again.
Dara summoned her magic and began to focus it in the palm of her hands, creating two daggers of pure light that were as deadly as any full length sword. All the while, as she gathered her magic, she searched out the leader. Finaly she spotted him a ways off in the woods, holding a bow in his hands with a quiver of arrows strapped onto his back. He stood watching the chaos and enjoying it with a smile lit on his face.
Dara growled, enraged to see someone so cocky in the midst of battle. Filled with rage she ran at him untilizing the full speed that came from being a were-wolf. Caught off gaurd by Dara's rash actions, the vampire tried to quickly fire an arrow, but was in too much of a hurry and missed horribly.
Dara felt a visious smile blossom on her lips. The others could have the rest of the band, but this one had the foul stench of her wolves' blood on his lips, letting her know he had been the one to kill her wolves. She would take down this one.
As Dara rappidly aproached the vampire he abandoned his arrows and drew a sword. Dara paid no head to the sword as she charged him and he angled the sword towards her.
Dara merely smiled, moving with her daggers and not only blocked the sword, but cut the blade in two. The vampire had odviously not expected anything like it and staggered back. A disapointment to Dara as she wanted a little more fight but as far as she was concerned dead was dead either way. As he staggered back, Dara pounced on him, bringing her daggers into his heart.
"Like my magic, vampire," she whispered, leaing low to the doomed vampire to talk in his ear, "It can cut clean through steel."
Smiling viciously, she tore the daggers out of his chest and watched, delightedly as he disintigrated into dust underneath her.
Still smiling, she turned to see how the others were doing and lend her aid if necessary.

Matthias was frustrated to see Dara suddenly running off, and his opponents did what they could to take advantage of the moment. The one that had tripped over the headstone lunged, looking eager to get his revenge. Matthias stopped him short with another backhand to the vampire's temple. Dazed, he tawdled unevenly then collapsed on headstone, knocking the wind out of himself. Matthias had no time to admire his handiwork or even follow up, though, as the other two again tried to attack him simultaneously. The vampire to his left attempted a leaping kick while the other merely launched a clawed hand toward Matthias's throat.

He leapt back first, putting himself out of arm's reach, then jumped into the air and placed a strong kick in the airborne vampire's chest. Surprised and winded, he had no alternative; the vampire was knocked into his partner, and the two crashed into a grave, breaking one vampire's back, and knocking over the stone. Matthias exhaled forcefully through his nostrils, angered by their disgraceful actions.

The first vampire was attempting to stand now. Matthias pounced on him, and after a short scrabble, snapped his neck. Then he returned focus to the two bumbling, youthful vampires. They had collected themselves and were standing now, both looking hesitant. Matthias acted first, lunging for one vampire. He struck the boy in the throat with his mid-knuckles, shutting the windpipe. Then he used the gasping, terrified vampire as a shield from the other. Needless to say, it was effective. The second vampire, unprepared for such an action, had struck out toward Matthias's throat with vicious nails that could easily slice through skin; they had no problem, then, as they pierced the vampire-turned-shield's throat. He could breathe again, but now he was going to drown in his own blood. Matthias shoved the dieing vampire forward and tackled the other, a look of helpless fear on his victim's face as the werewolf gave his neck a ferocious twist.

Then he stood, and looked in the direction of the others, wondering how Pola and Drack and Dara were faring. If any of them had died, he would be very sore about the whole ordeal. None of them should have died; Even the bodyguards should have been more aware and better prepared.

Dara looked back at the carnage behind her to find that everyone seamed to be fairing well. She smiled after seeing the carnage they were wringing. The vampires were falling like flies. It was then she realized that no group of vampires this young and without skills could have killed her two bodygaurds. Her eyes widening in realization, she joined the battle. Pola and Drack were killing mercilessly, but what she needed was one alive.
Just as she stepped into the battle two vampires met her with evil smiles glinting on their faces.
Dara didn't like the feel of these vampires. They were obviously older than the ones who were being faught within the graveyard, and from their stances she could tell they were battle ready. They had obviously not joined the battle yet, for they bore no wounds nor any sign that they had yet joined in the tussle.
"Little wolf, little wolf," one began to chuckle. "Come on and play."
Dara growled. She senced trouble here and didn't like the smell of it.
"Awe, you don't want to play with us, little wolf?" the other said, taking a step towards her. "To bad, because we really want to play with you."
Within the blink of an eye, the right vampire had disappeared in a flash of speed. Dara barely followed him as he traveled faster than any vampire she had seen in her life, and there was no way to dodge the blow. It came in a flash of pain that sent Dara realling backward, as the blow to her stomach was able to land past her defenses. Dara doubled in on herself as pain soared through her body. Her magic faded as the pain only seamed to worsen.
She was in deep, now, and she knew it.
She heard one of the vampire's laugh, "And this is what the Lucroi Pack, last of the were-wolves, has to offer as their alpha."
The vampire spit on the ground. "Pathetic."
Dara felt herself being pulled up by her hair, as tears of true pain blossomed in her eyes. She glanced back to see herself being held by one of the vampires.
"Hey, I bet she has good blood," he said to the other, tugging on her head hard to expose more of her neck.
PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2007 10:02 pm

Matthias found that he had been right to be distrusting of Dara's decision to throw herself into the fray so carelessly. Now she was double-teamed, and by a pair of obviously skilled fighters. He rushed foward, putting every ounce of energy behind his charge. He shoulder-tackled one vampire, tossing him several feet away. Then he made an about-face, glaring at the remaining vampire. "Leadership isn't all about physical prowess," he declared, as if he had been part of the one-sided conversation the whole time. He threw a heavy punch. "It's about intelligence, strategy, and the ability to obtain your people's loyalty." He launched a forceful kick at the vampire's head. "But you barbarians wouldn't know about that, would you?" His voice was drenched with venom. It was very clear that Matthias despised these beings, and he would also despise them, even when they all returned to ash. They were that despicable.

Dara sighed deeply as she felt the vampire behind her let go, but was forced to let out a curse as her legs gave out from the sudden addition of her full weight, sending her to the ground.
She looked up for a second to see Matthias battling the vampires single handedly and she spotted Pola and Drack running up to help. One of the vampires who had sprung the surprise attack on Dara seamed to realise that they were going to loose now, but instead of retreat he was behind Dara, dragging her to her feet in less than an instant, and had two of her arms bound behind her back with one of his while his other hand tugged on her hair, making her lean her head back and expose her neck to him. Imediatly Dara started to struggle but found his grasp like steal around her wrists. She had never senced anything like it, in any of her previous struggles with vampires she had been able to break away easily from any sort of hold they may have tried on her, but this one was like an unbending and unmoving rock.
"Halt, wolfy," he called to Matthias, "Or little wolf here gets a couple howls in her neck."
As if to emphisize his point the vampire lowered his mouth close to her neck and licked her now rappidly beating pulse.
Dara growled, "a*****e, I'll-"
She was silenced as the vampire moved his head once again towards her neck but this time as if to sink his long fangs into her skin. Dara gasped and tried to breakfree even more, wich only made the vampire laugh, saying, "You're not in the sort of position to make threats."
The whole time after he had licked her he hadn't moved his mouth but a fraction of an inch away from her neck.
Dara imediatly tried to summon her magic to her again, there was no way she was allowing herself to be killed by one of them, but she found her magic blocked.
"You're not the only one with special powers, little wolf," the vampire whispered behind her.

Matthias remained in a fighting position, sighing softly. After a pause, he smirked. A soft chuckle escaped his lips. He looked down at the vampire he had brutally dazed. Slowly, he crouched down, grabbed the vampire by his collar and lifted him to his feet. "Heh. You act as if I care... Well, I'd like as little bloodshed as possible, although the idea of prying your fangs out of your mouth and slitting your throat with them is appealing, I don't think you're worth the effort. So I'll offer you a bargain: This shitbag for mine. Take it or leave it?" Matthias knew it was a crazy gamble, but he knew it was one he had to play. If he was convincing enough to make Dara's life unworthy of fighting for, he figured he would have a better chance of getting her back. If push came to shove, however, he would slay these long-toothed freaks of the night in an instant. There were no doubts about that.

The vampire looked long at Dara's neck as if unwilling to tear his eyes away, enthralled by her pulse rate that was steadily declining in her neck.
Ever so slowly, he began to tear his gaze away from her to look at Matthias. The vampire's eyes filled with loathing as he seamed to truly think apon the bargain.
"You would so easily play with your... alpha's life?" he asked bemused. "And what if I should decide to take little wolf with me and leave that a*****e here to rot?"
The vampire's tone as he implied the other vampire laying on the ground was one of true disgust, showing he had absolutly no feelings for the other vampire.

Dara remained still, unwilling to give up any sign of fear or hope. Her face was a mask of emptiness, as if whatever happened her emotions on any matter would remain nuetral. It was the mask she donned in front of the pack when afraid her real emotions would harm them or hinder what she was trying to accomplish. It was exactly the same here as she was trying to accomplish life over death. The sadists that vampires were, she knew that fear only made their bloodlust worse.
