As his words left him in the countdown she flicked her tail with a smile. She wondered for a moment if he worried about her in a great race of stamina and strength. This made her chuckle to herself knowing she could handle a little pressure and or disappointment if he should win.
When the last number was released she powered into a full out gallop, letting her hooves pound into the turf beneath her. Every muscle that was twitching beforehand moved like liquid fire to help her keep distance. She saw him directly ahead in front as her head weaved along with her stride. The feeling of open land and the sheer pulse of running made her giggle with delight.

[[lets generate numbers to see who'll win ^^]]
Houndoom's hooves thudded on the ground sending bits of dust flying everywhere, from the corner of his eye he saw sweetstuff racing too. Relief washed over him and as he heard her giggle he tumbled clumsily and continued running. That one mistake caused him to run by her side...

She noted that he faltered swaying smoothly to not get in the crossfire of his larger form. Her own hooves reaching outward as her eyes glinted in search of a goal.
Her mind wandered a bit imagining the two colliding and stumbling into a silly looking heap. It wasn't the prettiest sight, but she still giggled over it anyway. What a mess it would be having their legs intertwined as they lay there dumbfounded laughing till their sides hurt.
Still she kept pushing with a hope of that not happening. Besides what were the odds anyway. She chuckled to herself pushing that idea out of her mind.

Houndoom's heart beat steadily a natural rhythm athletes would get in due time. He ran with a wide grin on his face looking towards the finishing point. He dreamt of the feeling of victory and ran forward harder. His hooves thudded on the land mercilessly sending massive amounts of sand and dust flying behind him. But he need not worry, his tail did not collect dust like the other. That was one point why he liked being different.

She noted how close they were and grinned. Though the little blue mare was behind, she was confident she'd overtake the darker agile stallion. "Just a little bit more, " she noted to herself not noticing the the hidden hole left in the ground, mostly a groundhog of some sort.
As she pounded the ground the unthinkable happened as her leg dipped within the hole causing her to stumble in her stride. Flying out of control she skidded towards her competition.
"Oh no look out behind you!" she screamed with worry unable to straighten herself before colliding with Houndoom landing on her side. Then skidding over towards the finish line with abrupt force as tears filled her eyes.
My how fate was evil some days.

Houndoom was nearing the finish line. ' just ONE more step!!' he thought elatedly and out of the blue. His competition collided into him and they both stumbled and skidded to the finish line. His face was was shock covered. He sat of the floor like his human companion would. Temporarily frozen. With wide eyes he looked to sweet, wondering if she was alright. Knowing her, she might have snapped some bones... But definately NOT expecting her to cry. Concern filled his entire being and he thought what he could do to soothe her. Immediately he stretched his neck out and rubbed his cheek with her, whispering a friendly tune in her ear that his human companion used to sing to him when he was a mere foal. It was called "Sweets and sorts" He flinched back and stared at sweet. He had not ment to do anything. Just soothe her.

She slid nearly three feet in that dusty turf feeling her fur burn from the friction gnawing upon her. Head lying upon the ground she refused to move praying it was all a bad dream. What had started out as something fun had become a disaster over a short period of time. Though her eyes were closed, she felt her cheeks moisten and grow wetter after a bit.
Had she really ruined the race with her clumsiness?
Moving a bit to raise her head up she winced from the streaked burns on her left side. Now what would she do that she was hurt? Looking upward she gazed into Houndoom's eyes whispering, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," as the tears began to flow more like a gentle rain.
His sudden song made her blink with surprise as tears washed away leaving her to see clearer. It was nice and soothing which calmed her sobs to a more quieter sound.

Houndoom gazed calmly back into her eyes and willed her to calm down. He had no idea what to do if she decided to sob until she felt better, and knowing sweet it might not just last for a few minutes...
"Its alright sweet, calm down, calm down... its alright, everythings fine, you raced pretty well i have to say... Are you hurt?" His voiced throbbed with tenderness.
He tried shifting himself away from her to a more dignified position. Standing up, he saw sweets fur burns and exclaimed , " You ARE hurt! come, we must get that wound washed soon. Plus it is getting dark," He said as he gazed at the setting sun. Which somehow seemed to be setting faster than usual.
He looked back at sweet and popped another question, hoping she was not too embarrased to answer him, " Can you stand? "

Sweet stuff tried to hold back her tears as long as she could. This is why she left home, left Dream Valley from all her friends and family. She was nothing but a clumsy idiot that always got in the way. Not as bad as her old friend Shady, but similar.
"Mmph.. I'll try" she responded trying to slowly get her muscles working while desperately holding back tears that refused to dry away, "Please don't be mad at me Houndoom, I really didn't mean for that to happen."
The night was nearing in her absence of paying attention, another thing she sometimes overlooked. "Oh its getting dark and.. ow... There I'm up." She looked around her side and winced. "Oh gee I really did a number on myself huh?" she laughed with an uneven tone.
Looking to the larger male for support she used her pitiful laugh to hold back those advancing tears.

Houndoom had seen his many family and friends on the verge of crying before and knew the symtoms very well. Looking at sweet he knew she was holding it in with much difficulty.
"Sweet, Its fine. Really, i raced with friends back home and alot of them fell and tumbled too! Its not your fault..." He watched her stand up unsteadily, she looked as if her legs would give way. He knew the wound would hurt her when she walked...
Houndoom turned to look at the sun, it was going down fast, and in deserted areas like this there would be no end of possibilities of what might come or lurk.
"Sweet, its alright to hurt yourself, its alright to cry.. Its alright, so why don't you let it out and not burden yourself with embarassing memories? Everyone has flaws sweet..." He looked grinned to her and nuzzled her gently.

Sweet Stuff pouted literally as her tears streamed her face. She was highly ashamed and miserable she'd done such an awful thing. Now the darkness was creeping in and she was all puffy eyed with tear streaked cheeks.
"No I made a mess of things and look how dark its getting. I'm a failure at everything it seems. We better get going to some place where its safe. I'm sure Kalona and bad spirits roam these lands".
Sniffling Sweet walked slowly wincing with each step. Within her breath she muttered I'm sorry over and over again as her head and tail hung low. Maybe after they got to a safer location she'd feel a bit better.
