Lemonlimed hesitated, smiling sheepishly. She ran the back of her hand over her mouth, sitting upright and letting out a breath - in all honesty, she felt a little ill. She shouldn't have eaten so fast.

She looked over to Syrie, chuckling to herself, giving him a nod. "Yes, this is possibly the best meal I've ever had."

Nalira gave a little sigh of relief, looking over to Khia gratefully. It was as if he could read her mind.

"Thank you, Khia." She muttered softly, reaching forward and grabbing a drink. She had almost knocked it over, but had retracted her hand just in time. She let out a disgruntled groan, bringing the drink forward and emptying it's contents slowly. She placed the cup down, sniffing the air, admiring the pleasant aroma.

She reached forward, remembering Khia's instructions. She started to fill her plate, not quite certain how much she was putting on, but she'd certainly eat it all. She was starving.

She started to shovel the food slowly into her mouth - she was accustomed to taking big mouthfuls. The food was absolutely delicious, she reminded herself to thank Syrie afterwards - but right now, she was too busy savoring the flavor.

The kitsune flushed a little, but tried to accept the woman's compliment; he was horrible at things like that...for some reason the blond kitsune just could not accept praise without getting completely flustered.

He smiled a little, flicked his ears, and chit-chatted quietly with Lemon about the shop, how she was adjusting to Nala's blindness, and also, how she herself was diong; while Nalira and Khia filled their plates and ate. The two seemed to get along so well, Syrie was pleased - Khia had lost touch with most of his friends due to his busy schedule, the fact that he rarely stayed at one place for more than a few days at a time...Khia had never complained, but it was still not healthy.

It pained Syrie that his son should grow up so lonely, so it was a nice change to see the 'shifter animated with a friend.

"What're friends for?" He chuckled a little, his thick bushy tail winding around his chair leg while he ate; he could pick up the conversation of the two "adults", but wasn't paying much attention to them. Instead he was watching his long time friend, and recalling how difficult it must be for her to be blind suddenly - he'd been blind when he was "born" from the Tome, but that was long ago, and he hadn't known any better...Nalira had been "seeing" up until recently; it must be such a shock to her.

That was why he took such care in describing things to her - maybe she could get a picture in her head that she could "see" and that would help? He talked to his friend of his martial arts classes, of running around with the Lupix, swimming...anything and just about everything - as though this were perfectly normal.

For him, her lack of sight wasn't a handicap, it was just something that made it more interesting to be around her. Besides, in his quadruped form, he'd make a lovely "seeing-eye dog".

"Say...Nala...where's that cat of yours? The one that had a ba...er...funny scent?" That had been bothering him for days now - before, Finando had always been at Nala's side...Khia had never liked the beast, but he'd not tried killing it because it belonged to her.

Lemonlime smiled, nodding in Syrie's general direction and occasionally giving a polite reply. It was nice that Nalira got along so well with Khia. Nalira had started shutting herself off from the world, which couldn't be healthy and worried her. She didn't have any problem meeting people, but it's more the fact she runs into them and has to be polite then anything.

It's as if she wants to live life by herself. Which was odd, because that wasn't what her question or answer in the Tome suggested. Love was the general theme, not solitude. Oh, it was all so confusing.

Lemonlime glanced up at Khia, her fork slipping. The clatter it made as it impacted her plate caused her to look down quickly. She coughed into her hand, giving Syrie an apologetic look. She picked the fork up gingerly, returning to her conversation, although she seemed some-what distant.

Nalira tensed, her fork slipping from between her fingers as her hands instinctively gripped the table. She shifted in her seet, staring forward, twitching nervously. A thousand and one thoughts rushed through her mind, far too quickly for her to register.

Nalira let out a deep breath, regaining herself before looking over to Khia. She smiled weakly, bringing a hand up to stroke her ear half-heartedly. When she spoke, it was very slow and deliberate, as if she was weighing down every word.

"That cat was no cat, it was a wolf in disguise. A shape shifter, much like yourself. He was the one who held my mother Hostage as a lure to .. kill me. Almost succeeded." She waved her hand in the air, trailing off and returning to her food. Although, she merely played with it on the end of her fork - she'd suddenly lost her appetite.

Being empathic, the blond kitsune picked up the emotions rolling off Mother and Daughter immediately - it made his insides twist, and like Nalira, he lost his appetite. "I'm sorry...he's..." But really, he couldn't apologise for the way that Khiarhu was - Syrie was proud that his son was strong enough to go head to head with the truth whenever he found it...he only wished the boy were a bit more tactful in addressing things like this.

"..." He opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment a black creature came darting into the room, clacking and shrieking and in general being a noisy beast.

Fuzztail!! Fuzztail!! Dusty-things eating, no-good dustythings!! It was Uisce [[Ish-kah]], Syrie's Nightmare. And it was, apparently, telling the kitsune that the "dusty-things" - the Stardusts? - were eating...and that probably meant they'd gotten into the pie he'd made for dessert!

"Oh...BREE-HEE-HEE, BECK! YOU GET AWAY FROM THAT PIE!" Syrie jumped up from his chair, nearly knocking it over in his haste to get back into the kitchen to punish the wicked little dusts!

Shapeshifter he was, but empath he was not - so Khia's "pick up" of the pair's emotions was soley based on the way he read their body language, the tiny sounds of sharply indrawn breath... But something bothered him - Nala. Finando. She had to have known he wasn't just a cat! But then, why would she have hidden it's true self from everyone? He'd always known that there was something wrong with Finando...but he'd been too young to place it correctly.

Crimson eyes watched the blind girl in a rather predatory manner as he listened to her speak. "...Hnn...Sorry to bring it up then." A pause, "Glad he didn't suceede." And that was that, for Khiarhu; he finished everything on his plate, not really even paying attention to the chaos in the kitchen - Bree and Beck were spoiled rotten, and that's why they went after things they knew they shouldn't.

Though Bree was younger than Khia, he'd aged faster physically and already had kids; one of which was Beck - his current partner in crime.

He flicked his tail and pondered what might be a good companion for his blond-haired friend. Something that was intelligent, could communicate, and that would be able to help her navigate...Maybe a 'Dust? He didn't know, he'd have to think on that for a bit.

Lemonlime stood quickly, stumbling over her chair. In her haste she had managed to knock her plate to the ground, causing it to smash. She instinctively gripped her chair, staring at the scene before her, rooted to the spot. She went to run forward, but hesitated, looking down at the shattered plate beneath her feet. She groaned, but before she could think anymore more of the situation a shrill voice rang through her ears causing her to clasp her hands over her ears.

"Syrie, do you need any help?" She half-yelled, struggling to get her words out over the various loud noises. She shuffled into the kitchen, wringing her hands together nervously. She certainly hadn't planned on this happening tonight.

Nalira coughed into her hand, brushing a few loose strands from her face. She placed a finger to her burning cheeks and winced, slightly embarrased. She bit her lip self-consciously, smiling sheepishly at Khia.

"Well, I'm glad you're.. glad?" She stated lamely, shaking her head, scooting closer to him so she could hear without having to strain. She played with her food awkwardly, sighing. Images of Finando flashed before her, a cold sweat forming on the back of her neck.

"Why is the entire year strewn on the cutting room floor of memory, when single frames from one magic night forever flicker in close-up on the 3-D Imax of my mind .." Nalira paused, frowning. "That's poetic." She shook her head. "That's pathetic."

"Why did Leanore knock on the Stationary Shop's door, where the Tome chose her to take care of me? Why, as my story unfolds, do I become more like a wolf every day when they are the one creature I fear the most? Why did I come here tonight?" Nalira let out a breath, resting her head in her hands.

"Why am I the witness? And when I capture it in my mind .. Will it mean that it's the end, and I'm alone?" She finished, resting her head on Khia's shoulder, a warm stinging sensation in the corner of her eyes. She wasn't going to cry .. she wasn't. Not today.

The kitchen was utter chaos when Syrie got into there - Uisce the Nightmare was yanking at Beck's purple tail, and Bree was chittering angrily and leaping at the black creature. The pie was on the floor, face down - half eaten of course. Chaos. Pandemonium. Syrie wanted to break something, but held his temper in check - Lemon was freaking out, and Nala was jumpy.

"Oh no,I've got it under control now...Just step back, lest you get hurt." The kitsune growled and cuffed Bree and Beck lightly. "Boys, I will deal with you when my guests are not present. I cannot believe how rude you've been tonight - I know I taught you better! To your rooms!"

Bree and Beck slunk out of the kitchen, properly chastized. Uisce followed them, chuckling and chortling darkly; his gunmetal grey wings flapping slowly to keep him aloft.

"I am so terribly sorry..." He hadn't meant to stress them out...not at all. It was troubling that this had happened tonight of all nights. "I'm afraid there won't be any pie for desert...."

Eyes the color of the gems that bound his wrists watched the blinded girl quietly as she spoke. Her words were childish and ancient all at once; begging for answers like the youngest of kitlings while offering riddles like the oldest sphinx.

"Nala...questions like that don't need to be asked. There are no answers. Fate brought you into the world...or the Tome did. Something inside your mother's head struck a chord in the Tome and she was chosen...you are the result."

He sighed, his thick fingers settling over her own to give a sqeeze that was far too gentle for the raw power in those dark digits. "I really wish I could give you an answer that wouldn't cause you pain...I wish I had some sort of answer for you...but I don't. I know more than some of the others because I've been here so long...and more than Linny even because Dad studies the Tome...but I don't have answers to why we become what we do."

Khia put an arm around Nala, tucking her head under his furry chin as one would do a child. "You aren't alone though. If nothing else, I am always here for you. With you, even when you think that there's nothing there." How he wished he could help his friend; something told him that Nalira's troubles weren't anywhere near ending, and he wondered just how much she'd have to go through before she rose from the depths.

Just how much would they all have to go through, for that matter?

Syrie chuffed a bit, and wondered if perhaps he shouldn't just offer to take Lemon home..it was a very stressful evening...perhaps that would be for the best. End the meal now, let them go before his unruly "family" caused any more disturbances. "Again, I am so terribly sorry about that...Perhaps...we should call it a night? I have very much enjoyed having you here as my guests..."
