I personaly belive that everything falls under lolita and there are alot of styles you cannot put under many others. Although certain styles have styles under them. I also think that certain styles cross. I dont want to define myself to much because I like multiple types of lolita.

Gaaaah... I'm one of those people who sees a difference in 'goth' and 'gothic', so whatever. That might not be a big deal, but there's a big difference with EGL and stuff.
EGL is a REALLY specific term, pertaining to nothing but Moi-meme-moitie and things very similiar to it. Everything is in that category just 'gothic lolita'. Gothic lolita is not including sweet lolita or classic lolita, or punk lolita. They're all different branches.
But I'm also picky about what I call things, so that's just me.

"Goth" and "Gothic" are the same thing... and I have never heard about Goth Lolita in all my Lolita life. Ther is Lolita, and there is Gothic Lolita.

From what I understand, the lolita fashion is refered to as Gothic Lolita--but not gothic as in wearing black, as in the time period and style (elaborate, fancy). The sweet lolita, kuroi lolita, classic lolita, etc are all different ways of wearing it, like separate branches.
I don't know, I might be wrong. The term for it doesn't bother me...it's when people say the word "loli" instead of lolita...that's annoying.

Cyber lolita...? *__*;; sounds awesome!
yeah... i keep having to remind myself not to call its Goth lolita. if you say it that way it means all black with red makeup dripping down your eyes and lips... like... some Lolita vampire.... .... That would be a awesome Halloween outfit X D

Akemi-sama eh I think EGL works better it covers most bases. Hell the Gothic Lolita Bibles cover everything not just Gothic lolita. well, the title really is "Gothic AND Lolita Bible..." but I do see your point. EGL community had a himeloli background last month, and now it's gurololi...

Mizer Manakins Gaaaah... Exactly. So no using of EGL with some random black shirt... Mizer Manakins Gothic lolita is not including sweet lolita or classic lolita, or punk lolita. They're all different branches. The thing I was going to point out. How can sweet lolita be subcategory of gothic lolita? So the fashion is lolita and there's many subcategories like sweet, gothic, classic ect.

To clarify, in Japan when we are talking about the style in general we usualy call it gosurori (Gothloli/ gothic lolita) but if we are talking about a SPECIFIC stlye of lolita, then we say amarori, crasurori, punkurori, ect.

Lolita is lolita. Gothic lolita is a subfashion of lolita. EGL is a line of clothing from Moi Meme Moitie. Neither gothic lolita or EGL is a term that should be used for lolita fashion in its entirety, and egl is not a subfashion.

Well the whole fashion is called Lolita. I hate it when people go "Oh look at the adorable Gothic Lolita!" when the girl is decked out in Sweet.
So I agree with JessieKateRose.

Brenli xd I get what you're trying to say. I refer to the style simply as the lolita style just because it's easier for me, but I guess it doesn't really bother me when people make that kind of mistake... Unless someone mixing up lolitas with kodonas. I have yet to see that happen because the difference is obvious enough. i agree, i only say lolita style as well because it is easier to identify with rather than calling it EGL or something else...lolita style includes all the fashions and sub-fashions so its easier for me and maybe a few others sweatdrop
