The only time I refer to him as Milliardo is in Relena's dialogue. In the series, she hardly refers to him as Zechs. I think in that instance, it's ok. 3nodding

In that instance it is alright.

When fanfic authours just use "..." for Trowa and "Hn" For Heero, throughout the fanfic >.<
PostPosted: Sat May 05, 2007 4:03 pm

I can understand the "..." or "hn" when it's something their doing like.....

"Hn" was all Heero replied with as he continued to work. An awkward silence fell between him and the braided pilot before the japanese boy spoke up again. "It doesn't really seem like a necessary thing to do Duo... You should figure out your own work instead of trying to compare past Missions.."

As for trowa.... :3

"..." the green eyed pilot found himself unable to come back with an answer to the blond pilots question. He thought about it while quietly staring at the shorter boy. "I can understand your reasons for wanting to try and pilot heavy arms..... but Ill have to decline. It's nothing personal but I feel better knowing my Gundam is calibrated the way I'm use to.... I am sure you would understand if I had asked to pilot Sandrock."

But most other writers just toss that stuff around willy-nilly, and end up just looking quite silly.

Willy nilly is quite silly. sweatdrop

But, in all seriousness, the whole thing with Heero's grunts and Trowa's bouts of silence is definitely overused. Unfortunately, those are the stereotypes that are tossed on to those characters. However, if anyone was truly paying attention to what's out there from canon, they'd see that those characters have much more to say and much more to offer in dialog on subjects that interest them or are important to a situation. They don't waste time with small talk about the weather, but rather get right to the topic of the conversation.

It's like the ones that have Wufei running around ranting about justice and women (using the Japanese word, "onna," the whole time, as well, when he's CHINESE), but there's more to him than that.

I think people abuse the "onna" because it's how Wu Fei addresses Noin after he takes down her Aries in episode 4. Of course, thinking that he'd refer to ALL women that way based off of one incident is just silly; after all, it's not like he KNEW Noin's name. It also couples with the perception that Woofie hates women and/or thinks they're weak, probably based off of his comment "I don't kill women or bleeding hearts."

Wufei using 'onna' can be alright somtimes. Like in the Harry Potter/Gundam Wing crossover I read and got SailorGundam06 into, Wufei uses 'onna' when he's annoyed at the world, not just women in particular. Let me pull up an example from the story.

“On’na,” he said irritably, catching Brocklehurst’s attention. Unlike that foul, loathsome woman Granger, Brocklehurst never complained when he called her on’na. “I require assistance.”

I do think that him using it is overused. If you wanted to be correct with Wufei's character, go look up the bloody word for woman in Chinese.

The thing is... is Gundam Wing in a world where the Earth Sphere speaks one common language or still has many? If it speaks one language, which language emerged as dominant?
PostPosted: Mon May 07, 2007 9:26 pm

Sailor: Most people seem to assume that in near- or far-future universes like Gundam, English is the dominant world language. It's more prominent with some series than others, but generally Gundam uses English.

Hazel: Even that kind of usage I don't really care for. After all, it says quite a lot about a man if he uses the word "woman" in the same fashion that you or I use "damn" or "s**t".

Well there is the running UC joke about a letter a character wrote in bad English stating, "He is a Char." Void can confirm that one I think and of course there's the letter Meer wrote Lacus, "Help!! I'm going to killed, Ms. Lacus! -Meer" Here it is:

So I'd assume it's English although badly done by some of the scriptwriters though. rofl

Many of my pet peeves here have been listed already but here's one that's recentlly REALLY started to just rub me the wrong way and piss me off... Safe Houses... All of the Gundam Pilots are in one of Quatre's many mansions on Earth and Quatre's playig host and all that crap, Heero is the leader and will tell each one of them their missions either seperate or together because he has a computer linked to all of the doctors and things just go through him first. UHG I feel like ripping authors apart when I read fics lke those!

1. Quatre hasn't got a manyrid of houses on Earth to use for all of them. In fact there's a website I am going to have to find later that stated(I'm pretty sure fairly accurately) that Quatre's family risked everything to go to outter space, which meant there was no turnin back! So why would they keep all their glorious mansions?
and...
2. There was NEVER a time before the last 4 or so episodes of the series when the pilots were all together for an extended period of time. They only travelled together in pairs and mainly only when they ran into one another... While a couple of times their missions were the same, often they were separated and no one knew who was doing what. So as for all this crap about Heero spewing stuff like a damned drill sergent, it's CRAP.

So yeah, that's what's been making me want to run my head through a wall as of late. >> <<

Ah yes, I really don't see the boys living together. Maybe going to work in the same building on occasion but never for too long. Heero tends to wander, Duo's doing his junkyard stuff with Hilde in space, Trowa has the circus troupe which constantly moves about, Quatre has to manage L4 and Wufei has his Preveter duties alongside Sally. Only time I'd see all 5 converging was if there were some mass disaster and that's no guarantee either. They might try working as seperate entities away from each other and I think Quatre would try to manage the political end rather than blazing into battle. So yeah, it's highly unlikely...

It's so annoying! I wish people would stay true to the anime and the manga. One of my peeve's is the 3XC relationship. There are huge holes in it. One and biggest Catherine is Trowa's older sister! two, they don't have any interaction besides circus routine's and the scence where Cathy punches Trowa. (poor guy!) Three I highly doubt it would work out if they weren't siblings, see point two.

Boss-Lady: Yeah, that's one of the most famous bits of Engrish in Gundam. In one episode of Zeta Gundam, Kai gives a letter to his old friend Hayato which says "Captain Quattro, he is a CHAR." I'm pretty sure this was fixed when they made the Zeta movies a couple of years ago. In addition to this, there are some other prominent examples, like Gentle Chapman's Gundam saying "ROCK ON" in big letters as it locks onto Gundam Rose, or both Mia Campbell's letter to Lacus and her diary entries shown in the following episode.

Hoshi: I think people assume that since Quatre is rich, obviously he's got houses all over the place. In truth, he's really just got that one mansion we see in the series, though he could probably hide out in the Maganac village as well. And yeah, Heero is NOT leader material. He knows how to fight himself, but he generally leaves the others to their own devices unless there's something they need to know ("They've rigged the base with explosive traps, be careful.").

ATFU: Yeah, 3xC creeps me out too. Usually the author says "Just imagine it's an AU where they're not related, okay?" but that doesn't make it any less creepy.
