Q: In the book, why did Christine refuse to sing outside of the Opera house (the charity concert was mentioned) and refuse Phillipe's help in terms of him asking for her to get better parts?

BakaTulip Q: In the book, why did Christine refuse to sing outside of the Opera house (the charity concert was mentioned) and refuse Phillipe's help in terms of him asking for her to get better parts? My opinion would be she wanted to sing for her Angel, Erik, or was simply instructed she sung only for him. Whether she wanted to sing there or not is not mentioned. And she most likely refused Philippe's help because him asking about her would imply that there was something between them. Philippe was already supposedly seeing Sorelli, so such an implication could stir up some things. Rumors were spread easily and on anything in those days in the Opera.

Yeah, I kind of figured it was the former. Because she connected him so strongly with her father. That's what I went with with my screenplay.

Q: Er...this might be a dumb question but...punjabbing? I think I get a general idea but...I've never heard that term before.

The Kitsune Hanyou Q: Er...this might be a dumb question but...punjabbing? I think I get a general idea but...I've never heard that term before. Punjabbing or the general word of 'punjab', is derived from India or Persia form where The Phantom traveled in his teenage days. The Punjab Lasso as The Persian (Le Daroaga) describes as a hangman's noose. It is the weapon of choice The Phantom uses in his silent assassinations.

Madame Giry is a Widow... isn't she? *blinks*
To catnipp: Hollywood. Plain and simple, if it makes money it needs not make sense. Plus they flipflopped The graveyard scene and "We have all been blind/twisted in every way" from the original play.

The reason that certain scenes have been moved from how they appear in the play compared to the movie has to do with the limited amount of set changes you can get away with in the play. For instance, the Bouquet song is placed inbetween "Music of the Night" and "I remember/Stranger..." Simply away to move from the stationary set to a wider variety in shorter time, since hollywood thinks that no one has patience any more and has to keep things moving.

Youko-chan : 1. Are you SURE they don't give our dearest "daroga" a name? If not, then why, in both the Lon Chaney AND Charles Dance movies, are the equivalent of the daroga called "Inspector Ledoux"? ...that just drives me insane. Unless...
Director: OH NOES. :B WE NEED A NAME FOR OUR DAROGA DUDE. Random Person: I NOES. *holds up Lon Chaney movie* THEY CALLZ HIM INSPECTOR LAYDOO IN HAR. Director: THAT WURKS.
>>; ...yeah.
This is just Storm's guessing and rationalizing, but maybe since he had no name they just combined him and the inspector Leroux portrays himself as in the original novel. Afterall, Leroux;Ledoux, and they're both inspectors.

I also wondered about the P.T.O. thing, but not from the movie. In Susan Kay's novel there was some comment that he signed the letters O.G. because...of something...I can't remember what it was, but it had to do with P.T.O. meaning something else. I thought it was some organization or something, but I guess "please turn over" would make sense...though it depends on what the comment about it was. x.x; I can't check because I don't have the book. I borrowed it from a friend.
I also kinda wondered if Erik's deformity was based on anything real. I've heard of something that's quite grotesque, but babies born with that can't survive more than a few days.

I've heard of something that's quite grotesque, but babies born with that can't survive more than a few days. He signed them O.G. as in Opera Ghost because he considered himself as such/was called it. Then the fanciful title of Phantom of the Opera came up, so he signed them P.T.O as Phantom (of) the Opera. It's not official if it was based on any real specific disease that deformed him or if it was done by acid or any other accident. Kay's book is not official on the past, but the preferred and I believe only book on it.
