Rosa clung to Tanith's arm as the darker woman wove expertly through the crowd, mingling and chatting boldly. Rosa was too shy to give more than a polite nod or a simple "hello", despite Tanith's frequent encouragements. She nearly tumbled over backward in fright when one audacious young man took her hand and kissed it delicately before proceeding to murmur something in what sounded like French. Tanith prevented a potentially incredibly embarrassing scene, catching Rosa before she either fell or crashed into someone, then giving the man a death glare so intense that he pulled away as if burned, seeming both offended and intrigued. With a sigh, Tanith excused herself from the group she was conversing with and led Rosa away by the elbow.

"If you can't bring yourself to socialize, let's find something to eat, shall we?" She maneuvered the younger woman toward the long tables covered with fingerfoods, where each picked up a fine china plate and began perusing the delicacies.

Heading toward a pyramid of colourful fruit that she hoped wasn't wax, Rosa ran into something just below her line of sight. Looking down in confusion, she found herself looking at a small melancholy boy dressed in black and silver. "Oh my… I'm sorry! I'm so very sorry! Please do accept my humblest apologies…"

At the lecture on not making mistakes over the boy's name Qadir couldn't help but to laugh softly. He couldn't help it. The man was so used to little boys that acted more like...well, Ment over there, hyperactive and silly. Degas just kept surprising him, and Qadir's reaction to being surprised had always been to laugh. Sort of his way of breaking the ice he supposed. If he wasn't smiling and slirting his way in or out of something he was laughing. "Degas, got it. My name is best pronounced as "Kah-Deer" in my opinion, but I think perhaps I've alternated it a bit from it's original. I do enjoy making things my own, you know?"

At the mention of parents, Qadir's cheeks paled slightly, though it was hard to notice with his coppery skin. A nervous smile revealed Qadir's pearly fangs. "My name means 'powerful' in Arabic, which is a language that is rich and common where I'm from." Turning to look at where Degas gestured, Qadir's cheeks managed to pale even more. It wasn't that he was against same-sex couples, but he was a fan of...hem...getting a room for such things. "No my dear, I haven't had parents for many, many years. I don't even remember them anymore..."

There it was again, that feeling that there was someone watching him. Was Qadir dressed so strangely that people felt the need to stare at him? Or it was just that he looked so damn awesome tonight, that could certainly be it as well. Picking his head up he looked over to Yiiei and offered an affectionate smile, waving her over with a hand. She'd have to get closer if she wanted to talk, the room was getting too noisy to hear anything that wasn't right infront of you.

Were the debonair man's advances and words authentic, the woman would have been breathless, mere puddy in his gloved hands. However, she knew what she was getting into when she accepted his proposal at being his 'date,' and while his antics made her pulse quicken, it didn't hurt her feelings that he was taken with the more beautiful creatures about the area. She was, after all, not of this wealthy and fabricated world; she was a puppet on his arm, another mask in the masquerade.

With one hand lighted upon the fine sleeve of her partner, she also offered up her ticket to the barker woman, offering an apologetic smile for the man's dramatic flare. She would let him do all the talking until he left to 'get drinks' or whatever he would think of to mingle with the ladies. He seemed to enjoy the sound of his own voice, and only needed hers to coo kind and flattering words. Afterwards...perhaps she'd allow herself to be a part of the crowd, perhaps a dance or two...

Truly, why did she agree to this?

Adrian thought his time at the ball was going rather well. Until something ran into him. He coughed and almost dropped the cracker he was chewing on (the fruit disgusted him. He hated fruit more than he hated people, and that was saying something). Turning to the woman, Adrian just frowned at her apology.

"Oh, I suppose it never bothered you to watch out for children. That's alright. I'm used to being ignored. Just like how my mommy ignores me. She just went right off to talk to the other guests and left me here all alone to fend for myself," Adrian mumbled, wiping away an imaginary tear for effect. Oh, he so loved making Amryx sound like a bad parent, mostly because he thought she was.

"... I don't suppose you could reach back there and get me one of those steak ka-bobs, could you? I don't know when I'm eating again."

He sighed and turned away from the table, not really caring if the ticket lady saw his little brown passport or not. He waited at the side for his lady to finish showing off her ticket, taking a puff or two during the process.

The view of the mansion lawn seemed to look so much smaller when he stood right in front of the mansion, looking outwards. He gave a short and skeptical snort, biting into the beam of his long cigar. The good thing, of course, was the beautiful female bodies that flooded the small ground. Each, to him, aside from being potential flirt partners, certainly added a mood to the entire place. The young man smiled darkly at the thought of flirtting with everyone of them. The curve and the slight dimple on the corners of his mouth screamed haughtiness and pride. He would handle every single one of them well, and he'd impress them all...

The thought made him chuckle out loud. Bowing his head slightly down to his chest so his obvious smile could be hidden, he played around with the long drag, flickering it in between his fingertips. Ah yes...they would all be like this, prizes of his game.

Whether or not he realized it, the young scent was getting more confident as he talked to the man who seemed to shower attention on him. Degas shook his head at Qadir paling, he knew all too well why but the chances of them comming between the foxes was next to nothing. Much more if he tried to say something to them they might call him by his embarassing nickname.

"Qadir." He repeated getting it into his head and nodded as he felt it sunk in. "Well you certainly do look powerful and that's a loooong time not to see them. Are you something besides a fox, human, or scent?"

It took nothing less than a constant concious effort to keep Autumn from fidgeting...or bolting. Both were seeming like fairly reasonable options, right now, as Autumn carefully made her way through the throngs of beautifully bedecked people, cautious not to brush up against any of them. One hand found its way to her chest, lightly clutching at her heart, which was doing double-time, it seemed. She was dizzy from so many things to see, so much noise...but then, she told herself sternly, the whole point of this was to meet other hidden people.

So, go and socialize, Autumn.

With a sigh, she scanned the room for a person, any person that was relatively unattatched to the ever-moving crowds, her eyes finally falling upon a rather starstruck-appearing young woman, dressed in a fashion that allowed both for the delicate grace of femininity and a more modern look- not quite masculine, Autumn mused, but balancing off the laced skirt enough that she looked both adorable and 'hip'. Gods above, did I just think...'hip'? With a bemused (and slightly wry) smirk, Autumn made her way over to the girl, wobbling dangerously on the heels that she was so unacustomed to.

"I am so very, very, sorry – I d-didn't see you, and I wasn't really expecting there to be anyone so y-young here… I'm so sorry…" Rosa's embarrassed stutter trailed off again as she willed herself not to let her eyes water. The boy seemed to be crying himself – or was he? She couldn't be quite sure. "I… I'm sure your mother didn't abandon you…" Rosa gave the boy the faintest of comforting pats on the shoulder, then reached across the table for the meat kabob he'd asked for. "Of course… Here you are." She placed the food in his hand, then backed away a bit, holding her still-empty plate to her chest like a shield. He seemed to appreciate his personal space.

Hearing the commotion, Tanith joined her, her own plate already piled high with vegetables, dip, and a few pastries. "What have you done now, angel? … Who're you, kid?"

The woman smiled but rolled her eyes. How he thought no one could tell what he was doing when he was standing stock-still and staring was beyond her; then again, most men and their shinanigans were a bafflement. She released his arm with a gentle pat on his shoulder, purring, "A drink for my Lord?" Before he could reply, she was willingly swept into the river of moving, sparkling bodies, weaving through them like smoke. Her dusky eyes flitted between the patrons, curiously taking in their garb and choice of masks; she did not understand why so many wanted to show off when no one could see who they were in the first place. Ah, arrogance.

Finally making her way to the refreshment area, she took a deep breath, feeling vastly pressed upon. She couldn't remember seeing this many people in the city, where in the blazes had they crawled out of for this? The woman took a deep breath, inhaling the night's mixture of perfumes and cooling food, trying not to bump into anyone; she heard the plaintive crowing of some child nearby, which made he realize she'd also have to look down to keep from bowling over any unfortunate youth. She exhaled in a deep sigh, reaching out to take a tall glass of something shimmering and pale. While she didn't know what it was, it wouldn't matter to him, if he was still where she left him. It was expensive and on the house. That should be sufficient.

The kid was irresistable, that was probably the best way to describe it. Qadir never considered himself 'fantastic' with children by any means, but he certainly didn't consider himself terrible with them either. This boy, Degas, just seemed more like an adult than a child at the moment and thus why it was so much easier to talk to him and his adorable questions. The foxes had already been put out of Qadir's mind of course; he knew better than to try to get between any affectionate couple.

"Oh, so you think I do look powerful, huh?" Qadir reached up to his mask and flicked at one of the small bells that hung from the curves that represented the flops in a joker's hat, "I was going for player. They both start with a 'p' though, so I suppose I'm close enough." Degas' question seemed to stump him for a moment. Scent? What in the world did that mean? No wait, that wasn't even one of those questions that you thought to yourself and hoped to answer.

"Scent? What do you mean by that?" Qadir considered himself as human as anyone else here. At the very least he was more human than a fox, wasn't he? His ears were normal, hair in check, no tails, no scales, no nothing but a pair of fangs that could be obtained just as easily by filing.

Kier, frankly, almost jumped when the man in front of her turned to her. As it was, she twitched. Going slightly pink at his actions, she quickly folded her hands behind her back and bowed. "Um! I'm fine, thanks? But really, I'm not much of a lady." Thanking the part of her mind that kept her from punching him, as she normally would anyone who acted that way, she straightened, giving a crooked, sheepish smile. Lady, eh...? Did she really look that mature? True, she knew freshmen that looked like nineteen-year-olds, but this was the first time anyone ever called her a lady. It was kinda funny.

"My name's Kier, by the way. What's yours?" She'd rather avoid calling this fellow 'you' for an extended time.

Well, that was easy. Adrian hated being short. He took the ka-bob without a word of thanks and went right on to chewing it, satisfied that he managed to come up with a sob story that was heart wrenching enough to earn him a pat. Mmm, yes, life was good.

He looked up at the woman again when he heard another voice ring out. Why did she care who he was? Adrian gave an impassive shrug and looked like he was going to ignore Tanith.

But he had nothing else to do.

"I'm Adrian. I'm eating while I still have the chance because after this, it's back to the cage for me," He replied somberly, finishing off his ka-bob and obnoxiously placing the stick back on the buffet table. Yes, he had no manners.

"Oh, and she ran into me, but it's OK. I wasn't hurt much," he added, gesturing to Rosa.

"Oh, Crystal---"

He inevitably called out her name, and immediately damned himself for being so unpolite and uncivil. His mother would be furious at this, and the young man shivered at the thought of being punished again for his rude behavior. He shouldn't deserve them, he WAS a gentleman afterall.

Straightening up a little, but refraining himself from reaching out for the girl's disappearing figure, the young man instead followed Crystal with his eyes. Hmmmm...graceful movements...very fluid. With her long dress dangling around she looked almost like a flower, with its soft petals stretching outwards, and moved whenever there was breeze. He smiled with satisfaction at the girl's flowing figure. She was doing so well...so well that it made him wonder if she had lied to him when she said that she was not of any elite classes.

He sighed, and followed the girl's footsteps to the refreshment area. It seemed that was where most people (most females, that is) were located. The young man took his time, wandering lazily, to the crowd. He'd have plenty of time here, so he might as well enjoy it.

A soft little sound came from Alch as she made her way into the stunningly lovely room, lips parting and eyes widening. Oh, she had to give in and spin in a small circle, taking delicate steps in her swishing skirt so as not to step on it, but wanting to take in all that she could, laughing softly at the lovely sights she saw, the delicious sounds, the delicate scents...

It was perfect.

Then she heard the sound of someone approaching and paused, breath catching momentarily as she turned to face the masked figure coming her way. Her own halfmask let most of her face be seen by others... but this person was hidden completely, locked away and left from her sight...

"Hello, miss," she greeted in a rich and smooth voice, doing her best to be as poised and polite as possible. "Are... are you enjoying yourself, here?" How silly a question.. who wouldn't be having fun?

Degas laughed with delight as the bell ran and skittered a little closer to Qadir in order to hear it and him a little better.

"I think that power better per-soni-fies you." he nodded authoritively as he had read the definition in the big book of words no fox would touch. He blinked a bit in return at Qadir's question having never been out out of the house in a social setting in all of his very short life. He had always assumed that he was normal and not very different from anyone else. Especially from how the foxes treated him.

"A Scent!" He murmured confused again and wondering if repeating would help. "You know....I don't have a mommy or a daddy I came out of a glass thingy and I was lit and...then I was here and that's it. Don't you have people like me?"He fidgeted while explaining.
