“Oh. My. God!” May shrieked in horror her eyes going wide. “What are you doing? Her voice came out shrill as she moved to Adrian’s side. “H-how could you be so cruel?” She questioned, pointing an accusing finger at the woman.

Granted. She wasn’t fat. Didn’t have a mole. Nor was she old. Damn. But STILL! Look what she was doing to the poor oily child!

“Let go of him, or I’ll call the cops. And I’ll make sure every paper from here to the other side of the world will have your name plastered on it as the abusive mother you are!”

Okay. So…maybe threats weren’t her forte…

Amryx blinked as the other woman whom she thought she had saved from Adrian's company started yelling at her. What did she do? Abusive? What?! She shot another glare at Adrian. What did she do to deserve a horrible child like this?! Amryx almost considered giving up and letting the other woman have her way and let her deal with the horrible menace that was Adrian.

Except Amryx didn't feel like having her reputation ruined already. Seriously, she was already known as a murderer back on Gaia. Abusive "mother" was not something she wanted to have tacked on her image here.

"What the hell have you been telling this woman?!" Amryx snapped, and realizing this wasn't making her look any better, sighed and faced the woman. "Look, look... this is just a huge mistake. Adrian is a very disturbed child, he seems to have something against me despite the fact I raised his sorry a** and anything he told you was completely blown out of proportion." She glared at Adrian again to get the point across, and noticed something strange.

Now that she thought about it, Adrian's hair wasn't as neat as it should have been.

"Oh, lord. You didn't touch his hair, did you?"

“Bul- Oh, actually, I did.” May stared at the woman before her, confusion clearly written on her face. Why did this woman ask that question? Was there a scar somewhere she didn’t want her to see? May frowned, and haughtily put her hands on her waist. This woman was a yell-y one for sure. Though she was the stereotypical ugly thing she imagined she was, she could still see her as an abusive mother.

But…disturbed child? The thought only sunk in now, but if the kid before her was disturbed, did that mean he lied? Just to get something out of her? Just for that milkshake. He wasn’t born of oil. He probably lied just for shits and grins later. His smell? Coincidence, shampoo, or body wash she was certain now.

Her arms fell to her side. Her eyes trailed down to the floor. Her shoulders visibly sagged as a sober expression passed over her face. That liar. She had been so excited too. There goes the scoop, there goes her attitude.

She looked back up at the woman before her and planted one a fake smile. “W-why?” She stuttered out “Does he have a problem with his hair being touched?” She looked at Adrian with a mournful expression.

Oddly enough, she was more upset about her scoop then him lying about his mother. After all, he never said she was a bad woman. Just…let May keep on believing it. She sighed at her own stupidity. Damn, this sucked.

Oops. Amryx watched as the other woman's attitude slowly dissolved as the truth sank in. It only prompted another glare to Adrian, who gave a glare right back. Amryx had no idea what she was going to do with this child. He just seemed to hate everyone and the only thing he enjoyed in life was tormenting others.

"Yes, he just... gets really pissed off when you touch his hair. I guess he screamed at you or something?" Amryx was feeling really sorry for this woman now. Her eyes trailed to the table that they were sitting at - there were two glasses.

Oh no. Adrian was costing her more and more by the second.

"Did he con a drink out of you or something...?" Amryx had only brought enough money to pay for her own coffee, but it looked like she owed the other woman some money. She was going to kill Adrian when she got home - no, wait, that kind of thinking was the reason why she was getting in trouble in the first place. "I'm sorry, I'll pay you back..."

As she pulled coins out of her wallet, the distinct mumbling of "I shouldn't have lit that damn burner" could be heard.

Adrian was all but forgotten, standing silently next to his mother. Poo. Why did she have to show up? He was actually going to enjoy himself for once. Well, it figured she would show up to ruin it. Just his luck, he guessed.

At the mention of being conned into buying drinks May’s eyes instantly darted to Adrian. Though, the boy seemed more then content to just sulk she chuckled nervously. “Oh. Ho, ho, ho no. I-I bought it on my own will.” Um. Why? Why would a random woman buy a drink for a kid? She mentally winced and hoped the question wouldn’t come up.

But the woman before her distracted her thoughts almost immediately. “Burner?” She looked to Adrian again her eyes lighting up. “You didn’t lie?” She asked in a whisper, hoping the other woman wouldn’t over hear.

"... Uh." That wasn't really an answer Amryx wanted to hear. Now she was the one having doubts. What was this woman doing buying drink for some random kid she didn't even know? All of the sudden, Amryx had the sudden urge to bring Adrian to the doctor in case there was something else in his drink that wasn't there before.

But maybe she was just overreacting. Adrian had a way with sob stories and he seemed to prey on the most gullible types. As Amryx continued to fish around for coins, she failed to notice May whispering to Adrian, as usual.

Adrian just 'hmphed' at May in response.

"I never said I lied about anything. Did I? Maybe you should get a burner and test it out for yourself,"
Adrian challenged her. He didn't even bother to whisper, and his statement caught Amryx's attention.

Wait. Burner?! Oh s**t!

"Adrian, hush!" Amryx dropped some coins down on the table for the woman to pick up and grabbed his arm, attempting to drag him away befire Adrian went into detail about the oil children. That was one story she did not want to be spreading around, especially after that fiasco at the café.

"But I was just telling the lady about the magical oils at the shop," Adrian complained loudly enough for May to hear as he was being dragged away.

"SHUT UP!"

May watched as Adrian was dragged away with a thoughtful expression before smiling and looking at the coins left on the table. That’s right, she still needed a burner didn’t she? She scooped up the coins and pocketed them, hoping it would be enough. Now, how could she get a burner from that shop without seeming suspicious?

She was tempted to just follow them right out. But really now, how good would that look. She fingered the cup of oil in thought. If she ran out and said the boy had forgotten it, it would look as if he had stolen it.

Her lack of an idea came to her as a disappointment and found herself following them out anyways. “Oh hey.” She murmured before picking up her speed to a brisk trot until she had fallen in line just behind them. “H-how much do one of those burners cost?” She questioned “My sisters really into smelly stuff, and I figure she could use one.”

Drat. That woman was still following them. Amryx really wished she hadn't lit her oil now. It was a terrible situation to be in, charged with selling items for the shop but at the same time having to make sure the customers didn't end up being saddled with a new child. God forbid there be another child like Adrian.

So when the woman asked for a burner, Amryx was suspicious. She didn't even stop until they reached the shop, where she finally let go of Adrian. As Amryx suspected, Adrian darted behind the counter and remained there, probably hiding in the corner as he normally did.

"Are you still here?" Amryx frowned, realizing the woman had followed them. Well... Amryx noted that she asked only for a burner. It was a bit strange to ask for a burner without oil, but perhaps she had candles or something else to burn. Well, as long as she had no oil, then a child shouldn't be born.

... Right?

"Fine," Amryx waved to the display of burners to the side. "Pick one you like. It comes with a complimentary candle."

May busied herself with looking through the burners, not that she really cared what it looked like. She was more eager to get home and light the thing. Seriously. But she made a show of looking for the perfect one never the less, allowing her mind to wander on the events that had transpired to lead her up to this point.

Finally picking up a plain silver one she turned and smiled. “I like this one. Its simple, but eloquent.” Fishing in her pocket she pulled out the very money that the woman had left on the table earlier. “Here, this should be plenty right?” She asked dropping the change into the woman’s hand.

“Now you can get whatever you wanted from the café in the first place, right?” May giggled and looked over to where she assumed the boy had disappeared to, and almost shivered when she didn’t see him. Hopefully he wouldn’t sneak up on her again.

It looked like the woman, whomever she was, really was interested in getting a gift since she was taking her time to look through the burners. Well, good. For a moment there, Amryx worried that this woman was attempting to light some oil and she didn't want to be there for the inevitable aftermath. It was a wonder that the shop wasn't getting any more publicity, though she certainly heard a few rumors around (no thanks to Adrian, the little sneak).

Amryx nodded and realized that the woman was paying her back with her own money. Oh joy. She had really outdid herself this time.

"I'm... OK, actually. Thank you for purchasing something at Solace Scents!" Amryx had calmed down enough, thinking she had enacted enough damage control. "Come back soon!"

Luckily for May, Adrian had no intention of bidding her goodnight. On the contrary, the boy was actually fast asleep, all that effort leaving him rather exhausted.

May smiled as she paid for the burner and received the candle and then, with a wave left the shop. The stars in the sky mystified her as she walked down the empty street, humming a chipper tune. And yet-

Her fingers went to her coat where the Mango oil sat safely. The mystery in her pocket interested her oh, so much more.
