I don't really have much time to discuss this episode right now - so I'll be brief. Infact I'll just give my opinion on the villians: Rubbish. OK, so, their powers could be possibly interesting if they did more with it, they looked awful, they weren't scary in the slightest, they mainly made me cringe with all the cheesy "wicked witches" stuff and their evil intentions turned out to be pretty much the same as that spider-thing's evil intentions on that Christmas special.
Other than that, though, I thought it was fairly good. 4/5, I think, because the rest was great but the villains were a let-down. Apologies for my post not exactly being well-thought-out, I'm in a bit of a hurry.

Lullabee Just be thankful they brought Shakespeare in before Jack showed up. I haven't seen it yet, anyway. Dare I ask who ol' Willie Shakespeare's been hitting on? Besides Martha, I've got that bit. Oh goodness, it would have been hopeless. smile "Fifty-seven academics just punched the air." I'm curious, does anybody know why fifty-seven? And don't all the little English Lit. students dutifully doing their research count? whee

Why not? They weren't destroyed then. They're presumably still bumming around utterly, eternally empty & bored. Not much of a way to spend Eternity.

Overall a great episode, but the "Rose would know just what to say" line made me cringe a bit. Rose was actually one of his denser companions. Only times she said the "right things" were inadvertently. If anything, he should have mentioned one of his brighter companions, like Romana or Zoe.
And I think its pretty clear at this point that Martha is much faster on the uptake than Rose ever was. razz

Wasn't that what drew the doctor to Rose in the first place? Her ability to just *feel* what was right even if she couldn't always figure out why. Martha's too busy with logic and reason to figure the things that really matter out.

Martha's too busy with logic and reason to figure the things that really matter out. Yeah, I think you're right. I guess I just wish that, now that Rose is gone, that the whole "Doctor in love with his companion" thing would just die quietly and let the writers bury it and forget it ever happened. And now they seem to have started it up all over again with the sexual tension Martha was obviously showing in that scene. As much as I like Martha (and, yes, I REALLY beginning to like this chick), I hope that the Doctor continues to ignore her subtle advances. The show really doesn't need another love interest for the Doctor. Between other companions? Sure! I'll admit that the chemistry between Ian and Barbara or Harry and Sarah Jane always made me giggle a bit. We need another hot guy on the TARDIS pronto! Just because Martha needs to focus her attention elsewhere. xd

the best part was the Venusian toothbrush. Such an obscure reference, and I'm a nerd for getting it, but I did a fan-girl happy dance none the less.

Hasn't the Doctor Talked to Shakespeare a couple of times already? Yeah, I know with time travel, things in the past can still be to come, but still, the way the Doctor hangs around his favourites, I have a hard time believing this was their first encounter. I was kind of sad that there weren't any MacBeth references in it sad

Jettrick Either way I got inordinately excited when I thought I heard Robert Llewellyn doing voicework as one of the kitties. Actually it's Ardal O'Hanlon under the cat prosthetic this time! Pretty good episode I though, although some of the gags were majorly groan-worthy and at one point I came out with "Gareth Roberts, you are a prat!". Loved it when Shakespeare kept on nicking lines from the Doctor! Favourite quote: Doctor: Once more into the breach! Shakespeare: I might use that... Hang on, that's one of mine! Doctor (pokes his head back round the door): Oh, just shift!!
