Read a few issues of Comopoliten, their in there as well. I saw one the other day. Yes, I read Cosmo. Hard not to when its the magazine on the top of the stack at work when its really slow and you have nothing else to do and it has SEX in big red bold letters on the front.

Like I said before...

This surgery took place at 21 weeks, which is in the second trimester. That means that elective abortion IS legal depending on the state.

Edit: I also am getting very curious. He was probably only anesthetized because the mother was, but I have heard of doctors making sure that the child gets knocked out as well.

Someone said something about why we don't make late term abortion illegal.
I know that in the episode of house the pregnancy wasn't late term. We got off topic a little.

iirc, all anesthetics cross the placental barrier. However, to do surgery in utero you'd have to monitor the anesthetic dosage and vital signs of both the mother and the fetus--you wouldn't be able to predict the level of anesthesia in a fetus by monitoring only the mother.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, there is no federal ban on elective third trimester abortion. Most, but not all, states ban it.

Anyway, if anyone is curious enough and wants to see the people that really do want women to die rather than get an abortion that is medically necessary you can visit this forum. Be cautious about posting. Disagree with them at all and you will be called names and harassed. http://forums.delphiforums.com/prolifeviews/start

On a positive note, I used one of their links to find a pro-life ob/gyn in my city...

The constant dictionary entries in the forum made my eyes hurt. stare

I'm glad you found something useful on their site.

Most of it is pretty terrible. These are the people pro-choicers are talking about when they say "anti-choice". These people really are anti-choice. They are also against homosexuals (in general, not just homosexual marriage or homosexual adoption). Most of them are completely against birth control of any kind. The worst part is that they advocate violence as a way to get what they want. They celebrate the birthday of a guy who shot an abortion provider.

More often, however, we find ourselves under that name simply for wishing to restrict one choice.

I think it should be for selective abortions (if they are that far they might as well give birth, and for that i'm sure it is illegel in most states) but not for medical emergenices (life and death sitiuations like that womens).

I've never seen an aborion ad on t.v. but have seen some in the phone book up to 8 weeks (when the embryo starts turning into the fetus I believe).

I do watch some House (repeats on USA), but I haven't seen this episode. That review of it wasn't very good, in that the biases of the writer detracted from the synopsis of the episode.

There is an episode where House convinces a rape victim to get an abortion (Season 3, Episode 12 - One Day, One Room), so maybe this is like a balance episode, where the unborn human gets to live?

Wait, is that the one with the 12 year old gymnist who gets preggers?
Oh wait, in that one she had consentual sex. =/

How many abortion-themed House episodes are there?

A bunch, apparently. Or at least three.

I think there are four episodes at least that delt with preganacy.

One episode, the husband had to choose between saving his wife or child (I think his wife died)

One was the 12 year old Gymnist but i'm not sure what she choosed.

One was a woman/college student that was raped and had an abortion

And one was a woman that had a sperm donor to get pregnant. Her and the baby was sick and House told her to abort but she refused and House did some kind of surgery and was able to save both her and the baby.

I guess there is an episode for each situation.

I'm pretty sure the 12 year old aborted.
And she did it without telling her parents, and House told them he was removing a "growth" from her abdomen.
I think.

I'm sure they'll do more. Abortion is a controversial topic, and House is a controversial character. Plus, they love the ratings boost.

I like that they have more than one episode on it, and I was really happy when I finally saw this episode (Fetal Position) and both mother and baby lived.

An "Open Adoption" ending would be cool, I think.

Yes I think that would be a good idea for an episode to have an open adoption. They haven't done an episode about that yet (would be cool if the end of the episode they can give some info for pregnant woman that don't know what to do).

We just bought the first season of House (such a great show...). And I watched the episode Sports Medicine which is about a baseball player and his wife. During the episode, the husband needs a kidney, and the wife is tested. She's a perfect match, but also finds out that she's pregnant, and would need to abort to donate a kidney.

While she wants her husband to live ("We can have another baby."), he wants her to keep the baby. He attempts suicide to stop her from getting an abortion. His condition worsens, and House supports his refusal to get his wife's kidney. House tells her to keep the pregnancy.

I think this is the only episode I've seen where House encourages someone to not abort (he tells the rape victim to abort, he gives the 13 year old an abortion, and he tells the photographer that she should save her own life and abort - but I think there is one that I haven't seen).
