*Bows* I be props lead...or I was...I'm going to be on props crew next year in highschool and then work my way up to props lead...Our school theatre is huge...roughly 500 seats (we're getting more soon) and there's 3 musicals and two plays per year which is a lot for our tiny little town in Minnesota. Sadly I am not trusted much for my junior high as props because of a little accident that was my fault happened during a performance. The scene involved two bags of flour that were to be thrown around. I was in charge of those and they got torn....Silly me didn't tape them up, so the flour got allllll over the stage and the fancy costumes that we had rented from the Gutherie...I'm not proud of it...but it WAS funny whee

Hey all... I act, design sets, lights, and sound as well as tech for all three sometimes. I think I love designing sets more. But there's something so fun about being behind a board knowing you're in control. I'm proud that more females are getting involved in tech work. whee

Yeah, I think it's great for us girls to get involved in tech 3nodding ...I know that I personally wouldn't have ever learned how to use power tools if I wasn't on build crew. sweatdrop And I'd love to learn all that technical stuff with lights/sound/shtuff.

^ xd Amen to that. I remember the first stage crew meeting for Beauty and the Beast, I learned how to use a power hand drill and a power saw... twas awesome.

sweatdrop but I'm a pretty useless person when it comes to building all together.. I'm weak, and hate doing measurements and techinical stuff like that... I like painting tho. =)

But just tell me where to drill/screw/cut and I'm all good.

Heh, I remember when I was reassigned to stage right to help handle the Be Our Guest staircases, AJ (our deck manager) turns to me and says, "do you think you could help bring in one of the tables for 'Gaston'?" I went out into the hall, tried to lift an end of one, and failed miserably. sweatdrop

*Tis both a techie AND an actor*

I've only recently gotten into being a techie, but I HEART it! I like lighting crew best, but I'm also done sound before and currently working on a set crew for some senior workshops.

Yeah, for multitaskers!

Hey, is my tech group the only one who names all the appliances and things? Like our cart is called Tank, the dolley that goes back and forth to the annex prop building is Big Blue and the big rolling ladder we do lights with is called Henry. There's a big story about Henry, but I won't go into that....

I just want to know is this normal for tech or are we just extra weird.

Hmm, sometimes. I can't recall any right now, I'm I'm pretty sure we've got some.

We call our little theatre the "death trap." That's cus it's in the basement and if you work in there to much, you'll get sick from all the mold your breathing in. *nod, nod*

Wow! it sounds like you've been at the theatre I do some stuff at. It's an old remodled fireman's kitchen...well, in some of the rooms recently a carpet was pulled up that was covered in black mold. They even left the rolled up carpet just sitting in a room where the cast of Annie met the audience after the show. Kids jumping on the carpet and all. YAY for killing people!

if you work in a shop hardcore you will get musles built up really fast. in four weeks i went from only lifting 15lb to lifting 30lb and now i can lift 60lb and it's only been about 16 weeks.

Oh that totally sucks, you get Tech mistake of the year, Although during a my schools Staff performance of Little shop, We had these hands that were used as body parts to be fed to the plant and at the last rehersal everyone had been so tired of rehearseing that we neglected to clean some stuff up and somebody left the hands inside the plant and when it was on stage during the show they fello out two scenes before they were even sposed to be on stage, the best part is we were all freaking out over where they were and one of the actors on stage to help the teachers pokes his head back stage and whispers hey Sid (me) The hands are in the freaking plant and i was like CRAP CRAP CRAP *doing the oops dance* So i ask him how obvious it was and he was like pretty bad but Nik covered you pretty good i was like thank god for actors who date techs (hes my ex now but we talk) and now im rambleing the point is me the other and the guy i was working with first did the angrey oops dance and then we laughed so hard it hurt. and thats how Me and my freind earned Tech mistake of the year..... dont hate me because i ramble sweatdrop

Yeah, things got a little easier as the show went on...I had to push (or rather carry, since the wheels were alwasy jamming stare ) the staircases for Be Our Guest and handle Chip's cart, so I got a little bit of strenght built up.

Does anyone else go crazy on their tech crew and start making up legends for your theatre?

During "Stand and Deliver" we made up the story about the Phantom of the BCPA (Brighton Center for Performing Arts), and developed it and I actually wrote the story and made a stupid flash movie for it.

We also know we have been in the dark too long when we start seeing people in the grid and we get freaked out, or when we think there's someone in the piano box...
