"That's just how I've heard them described, not that I am one to be calling others unusual" she waggled her flaming fingers in the air.
Fiara gave her friend an odd look, "Umm, that's okay, maybe, if you wanted that is, you could meet him." She didn't see how it was funny, but she wasn't seeing it from Ashe's point of view, maybe something about it was funny? To Fiara he was just her Uncle, though he was a bit scary. "I can ask Jayce or my dad to ask him over the same day that you come to visit."

Ashe laughed, "Indeed, and who isss kweh not unusssual if you think kweh about it? Everyone issss different from kweh each other, yesss?" She shrugged, "And everyone hassss kweh dfferent tassstessss on what issss kweh normal and what issss not."
"Ah." Ears flattened back a little, she had said the wrong thing? How could she help it if the thought of an uncle being un-dead was amusing? Sadly, Ashe had always been more amused by things that contained zombies rather then afraid. It was her nature.
She merely smiled at her friend, "Ah, that would kweh be a very nicce thing for you to kweh do." She replied courtesously, happy over the fact her friend wasn't offended too much by her previous comment.
Glancing about, she caught sight of the first of the trees, "Look!" She exclaimed, pointing with her free hand the same one that had burned. A bit of a mistake. The action of pointing constricted the burned skin, lancing pain from it. She quickly relaxed it, attempting to hide her pain and blunder. It wouldn't do to ruin the moment.

"Indeed." Fiara smiled, her mood up to this point was the highest it had been all day. She felt comfortable with Ashe and that they understood each other easily. People didn't have to share the same point of view to agree.
Fiara shook her head, "I don't think you rude for laughing, I just do not get the joke. Anyway, I'll mention it to them and let you know." She wasn't offended in the least.
At Ashe's exclamation, Fiara first did follow the instruction given. The trees were near enough to see now and the smell was even better closer up. "Oh~" she announced and took a quick couple of steps forward and then turned on one foot to further comment, thus catching the fleeting look of pain in Ashe's face.
"You're more hurt than you are letting on." It wasn't a question, Fiara's face fell. Though Fi was immune to the pain a burn brought, she had been warned by Xiang, "Be careful. Burns are bad and cause pain you don't want them to happen." Her fathers words floated up in her head, she had heeded the warning set when she was young as best she could, but even if she didn't mean for it to happen, it had. "I have to get something for you, for your hand. It shouldn't of happened..." Fiara was shaking her head as she spoke, she wrapped her arms around her middle, left over right and took a step backwards.

Ah, crap.
What should she do now? Fiara looked so hurt, in so much pain over this new fact. Dammit! Why had she done that? Such a stupid thing to do! Now her friend was feeling so hurt and guilty over something she couldn't even control! How? How could she fix it?
Two steps forward and Ashe wrapped her arms around her friend's shoulders, "Fiara..." She hugged her friend close, wanting to reassure her, "You don't ssseeem to kweh underssstand, do you?" She whispered softly, smiling despite the situation, "It wassss kweh my decissssion. My choice." She shook her head, pulling back enough to look at her friend squarely, "Don't kweh feel bad for ssssomething I did, it wouldn't be kweh right." She gave her friend a cheerful smile, "I'm fine, it jussst kweh hurtsss a bit,"
She smiled again, and ruffled her friends hair, "It'sss not a kweh big deal..." She trailed off as her yellow eyes absorbed the faint glimpse of something under the hair that covered her eye, "What'ssss thissss?" She hissed softly, curious and lifting the hair away.

When Ashe moved to hug her Fiara froze and held her flaming paw against her stomach as tightly as she could smothered beneath her left, she wouldn't let her friend be burned again just for touching her. She felt she was about to cry with anger at her unfortunate paw but Ashe's words made it through the frustration she felt and the hug stayed her tears.
"But why Ashe?" Fi murmured just as the other female pulled back, "I don't want it to hurt at all."
Now it was Fiara's turn to swear at herself, she dropped her eyes as Ashe lifted the bangs away, dropped her chin in an attempt to keep the grey scar that marred so much of her left cheek, her left eye, in shadow. "It's n-nothing, just another scar." Fiara stumbled as she lied. Upon close inspection of her face one would notice that the greyness extended over the eyelid and down under her chin, the eye remained the same bright silver sheen of that she'd been born with but it didn't focus as fast as its twin and it would drift now and then though Fiara still has some sight with it her perception was forever hindered. She knew that this wouldn't heal, "It happened a while ago," The fine face fur was growing back in, the harsh grey color, but soft and new as baby fur.

Ashe merely smiled, "Life hasss both kweh pain and happinessss, Fiara," Her smile widened, "And I'm kweh happy that I have thisss pain from you." A laugh, "From sssomeone I care about and not ssssome kweh ssstranger." A chuckle, had it been a stranger, Ashe wouldn't have done waht she did. Fiara was her friend and this pain was of little matter to friends.
Her green ears flicked back at the midnight-girl's response. "You've never kweh hidden your sssscarsss from me kweh before, why now?" She lifted the hair away again, wanting to see what made her friend so skittish, even if it wasn't entirely her business. Yellow eyes widened a fraction, "How...how did thissss happen?"
How could it have happened? A mistake? Had someone hurt her Fiara? What could have possibly happened? The burn marks didn't look so painful anymore, but they looked rather...disfiguring and to anyone who didn't know the midnight female for who she was, they wouldn't have been so kind. But how could this have happened? Her friend had been hurt and she had hidden it! Why? Didn't she trust Ashe not to care? Ashe only cared that he friend had been hurt! Why couldn't she have told her?

This time when Ashe wanted a closer look Fiara forced herself to not look away, she wanted to see the expression her green friends face would hold when she looked at it, "If they could be hidden easily I would keep all them covered, I don't like looking at them. I know life is both pain and happiness, but I'd like a little more happiness." As she spoke she ran her paws over the marks on her arms and they were easily hidden in the moment, her tail curled around one leg and the scars disappeared from view, the only ones that were left to see, the largest on her face and a small one on an ear.
Fiara felt whole when she looked at her reflection, though the posture was sad. "I haven't just hid this one from you, I'm hiding it from everyone. My dads, my brothers. No one else has looked close enough to see it." The truth was easier to spill out than Fiara had thought it would be, though halting her voice remained steady, "It, I, when it happened, it was my own fault, I was being reckless. I had my face much to close to the fire, I was down on the ground laying on my stomach, playing with a large blaze that I had haphazardly built. It was a little windy that day, one of the branches, bright red to the core, broke and fell against the stones I had used to contain the fire, but the heat and sparks flashed so close." Fiara mimed her reaction throwing her right paw in front of her face, palm outwards. "I was lucky it wasn't worse. Afterwards I washed in the river to get the smell of brunt hair off, it worked well enough because my dads didn't notice, or maybe they were used to their daughter smelling that way that they didn't think anything of it. I used that plant I told you of and it does help to heal and I learned a lesson. Even if I don't feel the pain, I can still be damaged and fire is to be respected and not played with carelessly. The price I payed could of been higher. Still I hide it from everyone, I don't want to have to explain to everyone, I don't want to see pity on their faces or worse if they find out that my vision problem wasn't inherited."

Ashe shook her head, "Who caresss?" She demanded, looking at Fiara squarely, not her scars, "They're a kweh part of you, they sssshow that you've been kweh through ard timesss and kweh sssurvived!" She shook her head, "There'sss nothing to kweh be assshamed of for having thessse burnsss," She gave her friend a pained smile, "Hell, I'm kweh proud of the onesss I've gotten kweh from you."
She listened silently to her friends explaination of what had happened, her own green tail flicking to and fro, revealing her displeasure and anxiety. "I wouldn't have kweh looked at you with pity," Her voice was soft, revealing the hurt she felt, "You ssso kweh important to me, Fiara, I could have kweh helped you." Her ears had flattened against her skull, she didn't like finding out things too long after the fact to help out. She wanted to help, wanted to be there for the people she cared about.

"Others will care, they'll stare, they'll ask what happened, I told you because I wanted to but I don't want to explain to just anyone that sees and stares and points it out." She was sure not because it had happened but because Xiang had told her about being different.
"I didn't mean that you would have pitied me, I never saw pity in your face. I mean, I think I knew that I could tell you honestly and you would understand, but I'm not proud of these scars, I accept them but I don't want to show them off!" Her voice rose and then fell again, "I'm not ashamed, but I'm not happy about them either."
Fiara had shifted and lost the huddled stance her scars were uncovered once again she reached for Ashe's unhurt paw to hold it give some comfort. "I've felt alone while I was going through all this, I don't want to be alone, nor do I want to continue to just rely on myself. I wanted someone," she shook her head, "you, I wanted to talk with you again, but I didn't come and find you with fresh scars and all my worries because I had this mindset that I should work through this myself and then when I knew all I needed to I could be a better friend and sister and daughter and take care of others... when all I've managed so far is to take care of myself, I've been selfish and withdrawn and it hasn't gotten me anywhere."

Ashe shook her head, "What doesss it kweh matter?" She demanded, staring at her friend, "Ssso they sstare, sso they kweh point out that you're different, do you kweh have to ressspond? Ignore them! Don't kweh sssay anything!"
She shook her head firmly, wanting to make sure her friend understood, "I'll never kweh pity you!" She shook her head, "Never!" She looked down at these scars, understanding Fiara's reasoning, "Yess..." She rubbing a scar gently with a taloned paw, "I ssssee, I underssstand." She sighed softly, "You can't kweh change what happened, but you can accept it." She smiled gently.
Ashe stopped for a moment, listening to her friend talk. After she finished, Ashe simply smiled, "You don't kweh have to be alone," She said simply, "I'm here for you, kweh, I'll help you, you'll never have to be alone kweh again." She shook her head, "Sssometimesss we can't kweh do everything on our own, we can't ssurvive all on our own." She squeezed her friends paws reassuring, "I'm here for you kweh Fiara, I alwaysss will be." She stared into her friends eyes intently, making sure she could see her, "Let yourssself fall and I'll kweh catch you."

Tears came to Fiara's eyes, "I've not wanted to fall before, I wanted to be the strong one, the one people could fall on." The tears slid down her cheeks and she stepped closer to Ashe, moving to embrace her, letting herself cry just a little but still taking care to keep her right paw far from her friend's fur. "Thank you Ashe, you're to sweet to me. Accepting me as I am before I even could." She sniffled and smiled into green fur. "It doesn't matter if they care or not but if I'm harsh to my friends I won't have them long."

Ashe chuckled softly, embracing her friend, "Doessn't everyone kweh want to be the ssstrong one? The one to let othersss fall to kweh them?" She sighed softly, hugging tighter, "When sssomething like thisss kweh happensss to me, you can catch me," She whispered into her ear, "I might not kweh know it and I might not even kweh want it, but you can catch me."
She pulled back a moment, looking at her friend, "I've kweh alwaysss accetped you haven't I?" She asked, tilting her head to the side, "There'sss absssolutely nothing kweh wrong with you, you're perfect, Fiara." She smiled, "You'll kweh always be my friend."
She was so happy. So happy that they were past this, that they knew and accepted both themselves and each other. She would always have Fiara as a friend, to support and be there for each other. THey'd be best friends, even when they found mates (at least Fiara would) and they had children. Best friends forever, was the correct term and that was what they'd be. So...why did Ashe not want to let Fiara go?

"I guess they do. Can I catch you even if you aren't falling?" Fiara meant hug and comfort, but she also knew that she could be there for Ashe if she did really need catching. "I'm not perfect but I can begin to like myself as I am." Fiara smiled back with teary eyes "Always."
Resting her head on Ashe's shoulder for a moment longer, Fiara let her tears stop falling, she felt drained and happy and hungry still. Lifting her head and pulling back reluctantly, to her the hug didn't seem to long but she'd cried in Ashe's fur enough and was a just little embarrassed. "Um, are you still up for eating with me?" She sniffed again and her usually soft voice was a little rough.

Ashe blinked and nodded silently, smiling. What's wrong with me? "Of courssse," She answered, smiling back, "You ssshould kweh like yourssself asss you kweh are, I do."
She held her friend for a moment longer and allowed her to pull away, throttling the silent urge to not allow her to do so. She laughed at the question, "Of kweh courssse, Fi!" She giggled, looking off toward where they had originally been heading, "Ssshall we kweh be off again?" She held out a paw for her friend to take, intent on leading them toward the fruits. By now, Ashe was hungry too.

Fiara giggled, "We should," she stood and held out her arm to Ashe, wiping her eyes with the other paw. Fiara had been reluctant to pull away from the hug, it was nice, much different than being held by her fathers arms but still very nice. So was this what it meant to have a best friend? Fiara didn't want the day to end even though she knew that it would, the day was already waning fast, the sky had begun to grow dark.
She wanted to suggest that they have a 'sleepover' this night but was it too soon, Ashe probably had to be home or maybe she had something else she wanted to do. Fiara stayed silent thinking, that if she just enjoyed the time that they had, that was better than wanting what she couldn't have.
