I would have to say that pushy vocalists piss me off the most. They think they lead the band for some reason, but everyone plays their part, and is equal.

thats why we kicked ours out, and me and the rythmn guitarist will share the singing

oh and Equal thing. my band get annoyed at me for playing a 1 and a half solo, there like, its cool and all, but... i dunno, i dont want you to get all the glory, so i say, I see it this way, its my only time to show off, so i'll do the trickyiest most showy offy stuff i can do

Those people are annoying! People who think bassists are nothing! I will never allow anyone to put me in place. I am good enough to know that I deserve as much on stage as everyone else. If they think that it's all about who gets the glory, then you arnt in a real band, get the hell out.

eh, i know i'm good enough to get more solo time, but I dont really care, Making everyone else sound better is one of more important Aspects of bass, Bass makes everyone else sound better, its great if you can Solo, but its even better making a good guitar solo even better.
I'm heavily into Blues... which is where my view comes from

a Blues Bassist in a Hard Rock Band, i think the bands we cover that are furthest away from my style would have to be Van Halen and Metallica, although i play alot of Sabbath, but there still heavily blues based, (early years especially)

P.S. i try to be a bassist people enjoy playing with, but if they deny me a solo i wont be happy... and when Bass isnt happy, Bass will kill twisted

Your bass is a deadly killing machen then yeah? If my band denys solo I crank it up to the max and just over whelm them. Hee yeah I play with good folks though and we all get an equal share in the glory me cuz I'm like the only girl, and each of them because of their special ablities.

I'm supposed to be in a band, but we haven't had a full practice because the vocalist tends to babysit on Saturdays, and the drummer works on Sundays.

The two guitarists though.... They're the ones who I've practiced with. One of them, the 'lead' guitar boy cannot keep in time. For example, once I was playing Strawberry Gashes on my bassamajig, and he joined in. He was doing ok at first, but he just got faster and faster, then looked at me like I was crazy. I know I was doing it right - It's my favourite song, I have listened to it many times, and played it muchly too. Then, sometimes he'll just randomly solo. He always does the same basic thing, and tries to work it into whatever we are trying to do.
And to top it off, he'll ask me if he can have a go on my bass, and then do a slap solo. I sit and glare at him. I can't do slap. I have weird thumbs.
I don't really want to do slap either, but that's beside the point.
Also, he complains at me for using a pleck. Goddammit. I like the pleck. I can play without it, I just choose not to.
Oh, and he didn't want our vocalist to be the only person to sing. He wanted to sing too, so we wouldn't be a 'chick band'.

The 'rhythm' boy, he just prats around. He can keep time, but he doesn't actually play much. He'll just purposefully make a mess of everything.

Consequently, us three girls have decided to split off and get a new guitarist. We only need one decent one, not two prats.

good idea sounds panzyrific. Guitarists definatly if the lead can't keep time he sould be done with. I like girl vocals some times they sould totally awsome like lacuna coil, or beyon-d-lusion, or arch enimey crazy good girl singers and they sound awsomely good. and girl bands can kick some a** too.

One of my friends said that he's gonna learn how to play guitar. He already plays bass - we talk about it quite a bit. Like we are both learning stuff by Jack Off Jill (me more than him, though!). So, we think that he might be our replacement Kenny. xD

I get annoyed by singers alot.

From my personal experience:

They are always complaining, about there voices, that they dont know what to do, thats to high to sing, thats to low... and the list go's on..
Its close to impossible to find a good singer that is willing to put some heart into the music. I hate it when someone does not give a 100% when everybody else does.

well i'm Singing in my Band now, so i cant say i hate singers, and my guitarist isnt bossy, he Suggests a few thigns i do when i play/sing, we try it and discuss whether we like it or not.

Our Drummer Though, hes Really Good, But he doesnt like playing Simple Things, hes always going like double Time beats or Fills everywhere, and it throws us off, speacially in Black Night, his fills go off time, he like CHanges Time Signature to do the fill, The Songs In 4/4 but the fill kinda sounds like its in 12/6 or somecrap, it puts us off, then we tell him about it and he goes, oh... and tries it again, but doesnt get it, other then that hes a greadt drummer and knows how to work to a Bass Line, we jam alot

In general, even though this is nothing new, is pretty much just egotism and not listening to others.

But with my personal experiences, I'd have to say lead guitar is annoying as - well you get the idea. I tend to just stand there and watch as the lead, rythm, and drums play over eachother to get the other one quiet.

gonk

And ontop of that the keyboardist is nowhere to be seen, ever.

But you know other than that we make a good team eek

Tip Tip Tip. Though the drummer has the timing setting job, don't rely on him too much, cuz if he decides to speed up a little well you gotta keep going as normal, also lets see, I'm no drummer so I don't know exacly but usually he should be with in some kind of tempo similar with either one of his hands, (usually I belive the right one) or with the pedals. The bass usually goes along with the bass drum in songs, so usually I just play with that.

nah its good advice but, just every Bassist should know how to cope with an Unsteady Drummer, but its mainly cos i'm singing aswell, i like to hear the drum beat to make sure i'm still in time, i usually am cool

but yer, drummers who make there fills to complicated and drummers who cant stand simple beats... thats a bit annoying, and like my drummer.

but i love the guy, played a gig with him last night, we rocked the house down, it was battle of the bands qualifying thingo, we got in, (one out of the three bands playing that night get the Semi Finals, then go to Finals then we get to play at like a million seat arena!!! wink )

yay

you shouldn't be off time no matter what if you're good. No matter if the drummer can keep time or not. if they cant they shouldn't be a drummer.

Heh I can understand falling out if you also sing, that's tought and rought, I can't do it. Sounds kick a**, tell me how the show went. drums scar me and I envy any drummer who can kick some a** and slow down too, I can't even like bang a simple 4/4 time beat.

yea hes a good drummer, just he doesnt like things simple, which kinda... yea

and whenever he gets a fill he'll do it it out of time and stuff, and that throws us off, cos like

|----|----|----|----| |-----|-----|-----|-----|

Bassically, he'd do a fill and finish it off beat and start the beat again too late or early and stuff

so that throws us off.
PostPosted: Fri May 11, 2007 3:53 pm

yeah I had a drummer like that in my old band. Its tough, cuz a lot of times you do rely on other people to fill you in on were you should be in the song. I like drummers who can blast out a face milter, but they should still know a bit of the basics. My current drummer started in a punk band, so he knows that stuff, but he likes to go crazy, at one party we played we were about ten minutes under time, so he filled the whole thing with a drum solo that left people's mouths hanging. I got a little wet from that. heh, just let him know and help him work it out if its a big problem still.

yeah, hes really cocky and hates playing things simple, but i actually think he could be better than what he thinks he is.

i mean he wouldnt be able to play Hot For Teacher - Van Halen

but if he worked on being real solid he probably could pull it off!

he just needs to be like Rock Solid, i mean, it is the Rythmn Section, we get our solo. thats when we shine, then we need to make everything else look good, they would look terrible without us, he tries to make all the beats complex, and his fills go out of time...

oh well, probably gonna replace him in a few months
