I put up a scale model of the solar system up in my girlfriend's room. I've slowly been working on putting up all the major constellations as well.

I went and got some of those glow in the dark stars when I was in high school and found my dad's astronomy text book from college and mapped out a few constellations on my ceiling. It was awesome. People always asked why the stars weren't just randomly spead out on my ceiling and I had to explain it to them.

I did that too Kitten!

Although I only mapped out the major ones and maybe two smaller ones. I did the big dipper, obviously, and one about a scorpion I think...it was too long ago. I can't even remember!!

I did Pisces (me), taurus (my brother), Orion (cause it is the one I can usually find in the sky) and the Pleiades

Posts like this are just stupid.

It's not like Pluto went anywhere! It's still there!

Reality is, that it's still going to come up in astronomy classes as well. It's just going to be moved to the section about KBO's instead of being listed as a planet.

Get a grip people.

As long as I have that new mnemonic device I could careless what it is classified as mrgreen

Finally someone that notices... xd

Pluto is the only planet discovered by americans... Thats probably why it is taken 'personally' by lots of americans pirate

Think what you want, even if I like to be stay tuned and be informed of anything new on science and astronomy, I will always think that our solar system count 9 planets and that Pluto is one of them.

Pluto was discovered 77 years ago, and it's just the last year that a bunch of stupid scientists decreted that Pluto is not anymore a planet. It sounds just like stupid and a non sense. Even if i'm quite fascinating with science, this such change is quite a non-sense

In that case, you should think there's 10 planets. After all, Ceres was originally classified a planet, and then those "stupid scientists" decided to change it.

Sounds like you're not really interested in science as you're clueless as to the reason classification is important (despite my post on the first page about it) and you're more interested in some fairy tale version based on your own biases which have nothing to do with science.

Please be fair and don't judge me. I like science, but I don't like so sudden and fondamental changes.

It's like when I heard from an informatic teacher that from 96, 1 kB worth 1000 bytes and no more 1024 bytes, and that now it's the kiBi that worth 1024 kB.

I lived 30 years of my life with the fact that Pluto is a planet. Now it's like if a day, "some stupid scientists" will say that our Moon is not anymore a natural satellite.

There are many instances in science where things that we believed to be true, later were proven to not be.
Vioja's post on the second page explains it rather well.
I mean it's not "non-sence" to find out your wrong about something later on. Alot of people have a hard time being wrong, me being one of them. I hate to be wrong...but well sometimes I am. Scientist do the same thing, they can also be wrong.

So Pluto's not in the "club" anymore - big deal. It's been taged with the name "dwarf planet" along with about 40 other dwarfs including Cere's.
It's not like pluto's no longer there - it's just not a "special" planet.

I'm sorry but I don't really see what the big deal is.

Pluto has always been the exeption to many of the rules that apply to planets...one being that it's moon is only a bit smaller than the planet itself and I believe they orbit the sun together. Kind of like a binary planet system. I dont think Charon does not really orbit around Pluto more like they orbit each other around a shared central point.
Plus Pluto's Orbit is not like the other planets- more like an astroid than anything...

ok Pluto isn't a planet anymore....
then why do they call it a dwarf planet??
ok they say its to small to be a planet....and they degrading it even more by calling it a dwarf planet...whats up with that!?
