Either Rico or Vandoren, size 3. 3 1/2 make my jaw hurt and give me a headache. :[
I love using Rico reeds for marching season. heart I get a good, loud sound and they're not too expensive so I don't have to worry about having money to get more if they break. :>

Rico 2 for me. According to the Strength Comparison Chart Rico makes ( here in the upper right corner of the page is the link), that's a lot lighter than any of the Vandoren reeds.

I use Vandoren size 3 for Bb clarinet. I'm thinking of moving up to a size 3 1/2 though biggrin That reminds me, I need to go out and buy more reeds.

I believe that we already have a thread for reeds, actually. sweatdrop
To answer your question, I don't play a reed instrument but most of the woodwinds in my band use Rico 2.5s or 3s. Honestly, it's no wonder he complains about our tone...

I play Vandoren V-12's strength 3 1/2, which are a little softer than regular Vandoren reeds. I'm thinking about switching to Mitchell Lurie reeds, though. My clarinet teacher told me those are softer than Vandorens.

All I used to use was Rico 2 reeds, but the day of graduation (4 weeks ago), my BD gave me a Vandoren 3 reed gonk I've been using it ever since, but it's nice to switch back to something easier.

I use a vandorine (I know I misspelled it!) size 3 1/2. I switched when my band director said I was louder than the other clarinets, but I could work on my tone. It HURTZ switching from a 3 to that, but it sounds SO much better. I just had one of those moments after I switched to a 3 1/2 when I just started messing around with my embrechure (I know!!!) and I finally found the one that sounds better for me! As soon as marching bands over, I'll kick that first chair clarinets butt!!! I'm 2nd, by the way, but at least I can hit the high notes!!!
