Why must they pull that with....him though? It's not nice for me to hear that because they usually pull that sorta thing off kinda... iffy, ya know? I mean seriously... So this wasn't in the PS3 version? With a kiss and some Chaos Emeralds? WTH? This kiss is a bit far for me.... If they made it that corny perhaps we should just drug in some alternate universe Sonic like they did Eggman...er, Robotnik.

Mephiles wins hands down, with Black Doom coming a close second. I mean, Mephiles killed Sonic, who would have remained dead if the others hadn't found the Chaos Emeralds to bring him back to life. As people have stated; Eggman needs an entire fleet of robots to do the job for him, and even then they don't get it right.
Good job, Mephiles

I dunno, I'm going to go for a few oldies and say Drago the wolf and Crocbot from the Archie comics. They both managed to pull off being really creepy in a PG-ish comic. I'm nominating them not for sheer power, but for presence.

Drago especially - watching him beating Hershey's something that's easier to identify with than a blue hedgehog and a giant mecha knocking each other about. Downtown Ebony Hare's drug-pushing worked on the same level.

Metal Sonic. Stick with the classics.

KluYa Metal Sonic. Stick with the classics. I admit, I've always had a soft spot for him, although my experience is limited to Sonic R & S3&K. I haven't yet made it to the Stardust Speedway in Sonic CD - or to proper final battles in Sonic Heroes (Team Rose barely counts!). DW

It's weird how the main villan never seems to be Robotnik anymore. They don't even call him Robotnik anymore; he's just Eggman. What's up with that?
For me it's a toss up between Chaos and Metal Sonic. Chaos is my personal favorite, and Metal Sonic was one of the first to overshadow Robotnik.

I think (and folk here will soon be able to correct me if I'm wrong) Robotnik was always called Eggman in Japan. I'm pretty sure Wing Fortress in Sonic 2 has "Eggman" emblazoned on one of the tail fins. For whatever reason, in Europe & in the US he became "Robotnik" (which I always thought was a cool name, given that all he did all day was plot world domination with a bunch of robots). I think the whole "Kintobor" and "Retro-Orbital Chaos Controller" back-story was a Sega Europe thing, but I base that on only having seen it in the UK Sonic books. Then Sonic Adventure was released and he was Eggman all the way... DW

But now the name "Robotnik" has been shown to be his last name.
Full name: Dr. Ivo (Eggman) Robotnik.

That's true, I'd forgotten the whole "Gerald Robotnik" thing. Was he named that in Japanese, does anyone know?
Eggman always seemed like some sort of insulting nickname that Sonic would come up with for him - except, as I say, for it being emblazoned on his ships smile

I remember reading a theory on another forum, years back, about how all the Egg-named machines could be a way of the doctor issuing a bit of cruel irony. A sort of "It looks like the egg cracked YOU!" thing. : P
It seems to make sense to me. Though I'm pretty much used to it by now, "Eggman" isn't exactly a name that strikes terror into hearts. I liked how the first Adventure had to where Sonic and the rest of the gang jokingly called him "Eggman", put the doctor referred to himself as "Robotnik".
...not that Eggman's gonna win any awards for terrorizing anytime soon. It always seems like he ends up having to pitch in to save the world these days. Well, at least in the 3D titles. Most of the Advance games had him as the primary antagonist like in the old days.....can't speak for the Rush series, as I have yet to beat even the first one halfway-through. x.x

Fanboy moment: If there is ever going to be a big screen Sonic movie, Eggman is most definitely not the name to use for a villain who's looking to stirke terror into people.

Toss up for me between Mephiles and Metalix, and these are my reasons: Mephiles due to the fact that he brought the first true death in the Sonic universe. Though he wasn't the primary goal, Sonic's death was surprising and put new life that showed that Sonic is not invincible, unlike heroes of other universes (Mario, Goku, nameless others). The downer though is that he came out of no where so he has no history with Sonic. Metal Sonic because he's been with the series since Sonic The Hedgehog 2, even if it was a cheesy silver version of our hero. When he made his "offical" appearance in Sonic CD and the StH OVA he was an instant hit with me. With his return in Sonic Heroes, Metal shown its true personality. Its obsessed with defeting Sonic and is locked within the delerium that it is in fact the real Sonic. Another interesting fact is, that behind Sonic and Shadow (1 and 2 respectfully), Metal Sonic is the character most voted for a return villan Overall, Metal has a slight lead over Mephiles but I belive that with a little refinement and perhaps a deeper history, Mephiles could rise to be the greatest villan in the Sonic Universe. ((Forgive me for spamming, but for those of you RP'ers out there, you sould have a look at my Sonic 2006 revamp titled, Zero Hour))
