Ah, another Humpback fact:

They have no vocal chords. Scientists aren't 100% certain how they make their elaborate songs. They guess it's by moving air inside their vast lung chambers.

Male anglerfish latch onto a female, and they never let go once they do so, instead tapping into her bloodstream and becoming a sort of permanent appendage.

Badgers have been known to pair up with Coyotes in order to catch prey.

Badgers are also known to dig through concrete and asphalt with their powerful claws.

now heres and interesting fact that I learned myself.

-- When a herd of 6 cows eat 200lbs of chicken feed in one night, don't stand behind them.... o____O eww.

xd Holy crap. No kidding.

Horses do not have overly good depth perception, especially concerning the color black, so that is why many horses spook at the checkered-pattern finishes of some tracks. It can look to them like they are stepping over holes.

That's quite a story.

Let's see.... On a gruesome fact note... Pet frogs are not supposed to be fed mealworms. The bugs can actually eat through their stomachs. x_x Yeah. We were told that by a vet once.

Don't know. It might just be mealworms, which are large beatle larvae they probably don't come across much in the wild. I can't remember where they're actually native to.

Hmm. An interesting fact I've recently discovered from the barn... Some mustangs (horses in general, actually), can have asthmatic reactions to the dust and such in hay bales. xd In these cases, they are let out to graze on normal grass and given hay cubes....

Grey foxes and red foxes can be told apart by their tail tips, as their name does not always indicate the color of their body fur (red foxes can have gray fur, etc.). Red foxes will have a white tail tip, while gray foxes will have a black tail tip.

How bout some fox facts?

The largest fox is the Red Fox, whilst the smallest is the fennec fox, 20cm tall and weighing only 1.5kg.

An adult dog Red Fox can weigh between 4.51 - 9.50kg, whilst an adult vixen weighs 3.94 - 8.50kg. A quick n** to the back of the neck is only guaranteed to kill animals weighing less than a kilo!

Foxes hunt alone and not in packs such as wolves, dogs and hounds! This suggests that foxes are not designed to tackle large prey.

The red fox is dog-like in appearance with a long, pointed muzzle and a long, bushy tail. The color of the fur on it's back is a dark reddish yellow. The tail is also reddish yellow but also mixed with black and tipped in white.

Red foxes have developed numerous ways to avoid fox hunters (I don't agree with the sport, so don't rant at me for mentioning it, please). Two of the more interesting ones I can remember:

1. Foxes can climb trees. If the animal's scent has been lost by the hunting dogs, this is a good way for them to wait out until the hunt ends.

2. A fox, when pursued, will sometimes run a certain distance, then turn around and take the same path again back, then leap over to a new section and run. To the dogs, the scent seems to hit a certain area (where the fox turned around) and vanish.

Foxes also keep caches of food, prey they haven't finished that they bury and store for later.

Think humans are the only specimens with names?

Think again.

Dolphins actually have names for themselves, each name is a certain whistle pattern. They often swim around saying their name, but scientists think it's indicating certain things that they're doing, like if they found something, or if they're calling another dolphin! blaugh

The lion, Panthera Leo, is part of the Felidae family. It's the largest living big cat besides the tiger, and hails from Africa. They used to live naturally in India to Europe as well, but have since been wiped from those areas by poaching and habitat destruction. They have a life span of around 15 years in the wild, and 20 years in captivity. Males will weigh in at 330 to 500 pounds, while females are normally 260 to 330 pounds.

Lion cubs are born with small brown patches upon their pelts, which quickly fade away as they grow. Groups of lions, called prides, are usually 15 strong and consist of related females and one or two ruling males. Males are forced out of the pride to find a new one of their own once they reach a certain age.

The exiled males will spend a year or two by themselves in the wild, during which they may find and befriend another male. These two may team up and go off to conquer a pride for themselves with their combined strength.

Lionesses will very rarely fight attacking males who are trying to take over their family. Usually, they leave the defending up to their alpha male. When a fight ensues, it ends with the death of either the challenger or the dominant male, or the fleeing of one fighter. If the challenger wins, he kills all the cubs in the pride. He will not tolerate the offspring of his dead competitor living under his protection.

For this reason, it's important for the dominant male of a pride to be fit and uninjured. It's why females do most of the hunting for the pride, while males not only get to laze around all day, but also get first pick on which part of the kill they eat. One could get easily hurt while wrestling a prey item, so it only makes sense.

Lions most normally feed off the medium-sized creatures of the savanna, such as antelopes and zebras. They'll rarely go after larger animals like elephants and giraffes.

The ancient Romans captured hundreds and hundreds of the largest lions they could find from Africa. The lions were brought back to Rome and into the Colosseum to be fought and killed by gladiators. Lions in those times were nearly twice as large as those of the present day. With the large males all gone, all that was left of the wild population were the smaller, weaker ones. As a result, lions shrunk considerably through genetics and breeding.

Lions can interbreed with most of the big cats, the most notable being the tiger. The liger is a hybrid of the male lion and the female tiger. Male lions pass on a growth acceleration gene when they mate, to make their cubs the biggest. If not the the growth stunting gene that the lionesses pass on, lions would just keep growing bigger and bigger. Because tigers don't carry any such gene with them, the liger can grow to enormous sizes, and weigh up to half a tonne. The tigon is the product of a lioness mother and a tiger father. The opposite effect to that of the liger is achieved in this case, the tigon being exceptionally small.

The ferret Mustela Putorius furo is the only truely domestic member of the weasel family.

Ferrets can kill animals that are much larger than themselves

Ferrets are obligate carnivores and can not digest plant matter.

All ferrets are born with white fur. This later moults and becomes coloured.

Ferrets make good hunting animals and can be used to hunt rabbits and mice.

Foxes will back down from a ferret and run.
