What tiger? Did she mean that big statue? Qing looked to where it had been, then blinked. It was clearly not there anymore. "Oh, the tigerr... Nana did not move it? Well, we not move it, and the rleaf did not move it. Maybe it moved itserlf?"
The simplest answer was often the right one, even if it didn't make any sense.

Her ears perked up at the sound of the growl, turning her eyes to the left, but not actually moving her head to see over her shoulder. Oh, GREAT... So that statue was something weird, too??
"Qing, keep your wings still, and don't move," she warned him. "It might attack you while you're holding onto that plant, and I'm pretty sure we're not going to be able to replace what they gave you."
Cautiously, the cat woman stood. "On the count of three, I want you to put the pot back on the table, and then hide in front of the couch, okay?"

Qing's antennae quivered as he listened to Anandi. She was so serious all of a sudden! Not that she wasn't always serious, but this was different. This was urgent, and sounded dangerous. He did keep his wings still, also shrinking them significantly so they were only half as big within seconds. His arms wound tightly around the pot, and he hunched over it protectively.
"What is wrrong, Nana?" His voice was somewhat softer, but far from a whisper. "If it's yourr tigerr, it shourldn't hurrt you, rright?"

"We don't KNOW that," she sighed, rolling her shoulders a little bit before leaning backwards just enough to rest her hands on the back of the couch. "Besides... its growling, so it obviously feels threatened right now. If its anything like a wild cub, its probably REALLY confused right about now."
Anandi finally looked over her shoulder, unable to see the tiger crouching down behind Qing except for its white, purple striped tail. It looked like it would just pounce at any second, or rather felt as such, so she figured that there wasn't enough time to explain an animal's nature.
"Ready?" she asked, but didn't wait as she began the count. "One, two... THREE!"

It still didn't make any sense to Qing. The statue was from Anandi's mother, wasn't it? Mothers were supposed to be caring and nurturing and protective. Even estranged ones wouldn't send their offspring volatile packages. Of course, Qing's knowledge of maternal urges was mostly theoretical, but at least in the wild, mothers didn't act that way. And Anandi was sort of wild herself, not that he would ever put it that way to her. He was already on the endangered species list, there was no need to push things.
He was about to protest again, but then the count came. Eyes widening, Qing pushed his glasses up so they didn't fall off his nose. On "three" he got up, ready to make a splendid leap over towards the table. The whole thing would have worked perfectly, had the box from the delivery not been in front of him.
"Aiyaah!" he cried, falling forward. At the last minute he managed to twist so that he fell on his back instead, letting the pot crash into his stomach instead of the floor. While his wings were pinned painfully under him, at least the leaf looked okay. Most of the dirt was still even in the pot.
Then he remembered the tiger, and flinched. Whatever happened next probably wouldn't be very good.

Using the back of the couch as support, the wild cat thrust herself upwards in a backwards leap, intending to pounce the tiger that way. However, Qing had fallen in the way, and the creature seemed just as confused as she was.
"NYAAAAAAAAA~!!" she cried as she twisted her body enough so that she'd miss the alien completely... and over correcting herself without thinking about the momentum that would give her as she face-planted into the floor. She grew dazed, her legs falling forward so that her butt and tail stuck up into the air.
"You... you screw up everything, don't you?" came the muffled voice from the floor.
The tiger almost looked like it was laughing. What fools these humans were! All she wanted to do was play, but they were putting on a show for her instead? The white tiger cub sat back on her hind legs and began to clap her front paws together. Excellent! What a splendid time to awaken!
Then, she stood up on all fours, padding over to Qing, yellow eyes fixated on the leaf inside of the pot. It was safe, yes? The little piece of life that she felt. Taking a seat once more, the tiger began to purr.
Anandi slid her body down to lay against the carpet. Her rounded ears twitched slightly, as if she were listening to something.
"What do you mean, don't let the cat touch it?" she hissed, thinking it was Qing that spoke. "The damn thing was attached to ME!"

Struggling to sit up, Qing brushed the dirt off the front of his shirt and back into the pot. "It's okay," he murmured softly, stroking the rim. "It was scarry, but Nana can handrle it."
It sounded like he was trying to soothe the leaf, but it was really a way to get himself under control. Anandi was right, he DID tend to screw things up. Which just meant that he had to try even harder then, didn't it?
He blinked then, at the small tiger that had pushed its way over to the pot. "Cute kitty!" he exclaimed, grinning like an idiot again. "But shourld be carrefurl, not to knock the rleaf overr."
Was Nana saying something? Qing turned, tucking the pot into the crook of his arm so he wouldn't drop it. "Huh? Who said that?"

Anandi was seriously mad. Now he was playing tricks on her?!
"Don't lie! You were just saying not to let me near the pot!" she hissed again, getting up on all fours, almost looking about ready to pounce him with anger. "I let you run your stupid experiments whenever you wanted to, and now you're telling me that I ca--"
She stopped suddenly, her eyes turning to the tiger that was now looking at her with annoyance. Hold up... THAT was talking to her?
You too loud. Need to quiet down. she seemed to say, but didn't use a real voice of any sort. It was as if she were talking with her eyes alone, a telepathic link from one animal to another. You apologize.
She was in awe. The cat never imagined that she'd be able to communicate with other breeds, humanesque or non, in the fashion that she could sometimes talk to her family in private. Her anger quickly faded as she moved herself into a sit, calming down considerably.
Qing would probably get a kick out of this had he known what was going on. For now, she decided to keep quiet about it... At least until something different happened to the leaf. Clearing her throat, Anandi turned her eyes toward the ground, pursing her lips a little bit.
"I... Hm. Sorry... Qing..." she managed to get out, her tail twitching a little bit on the floor. "I shouldn't have yelled at you."
The tiger seemed to smile a little bit, purring with content. That was better.

Now she was really mad. And worse, Qing had absolutely no idea why! It wasn't like he'd done anything. At least, nothing he didn't do constantly anyway. And he certainly hadn't said that to her; he had some desire to keep living. "I didn't say anything," he pleaded, almost in a whine. "Rrearlly."
Then, to his shock, she actually listened. Eyes widening, he tilted his head, antennae wiggling as he puzzled over this reaction. Then he carefully put the pot on the table, stepped over to Anandi, and put one hand against her forehead.
"Nana doesn't feerl warrm. But maybe we shourld get a therrmometerr."

Immediately, she grew fuming mad. She was apologizing, and he wasn't taking her seriously. Her hands quickly rose into the air, clasping around his throat. Anandi then proceeded to shake him violently.
"I'M TRYING TO BE SINCERE AND YOU MOCK ME!" she growled, cursing other obscenities as well. The rest of whatever she was saying merely became an unknown babble.

Oh, there was the Anandi he knew! Qing wasn't sure whether to be relieved or afraid, and settled for apologetic- his general attitude, since it saved time. "Sorrrry!" he gabbled, words a bit uneven due to the shaking. "But it was unusuarl for Nana, and I thought we needed morre inforrmation."
Take notes now, ask questions later. It was a skewed way of thinking, but for Qing, it worked. If by worked, one meant "got him into trouble with more people than he cared to count."
"B-but everrything is okay! The rleaf is prlanted, and we have a kitty!" In truth, Qing was itching to investigate the cat, but that could wait. The leaf was a commissioned experiment, more or less, and took precedence.

Red faced, the anthro released the alien grudgingly, her tail stiff with anger. She was growling as she made her way from the floor to the other side of the living room, where her exit was waiting for her. Pushing open the door to her room, she stepped inside, and slammed it shut.
The tiger cub curled her tail around her back legs, shaking her head at the needless bout. Such strange creatures, these humans. She glanced to the male, as if she knew already of his curious nature, and immediately began to move closer to where the leaf was now sitting.

Glad to be free, Qing took a couple of deep breaths before speaking next. "Kitty is werlcome to stay, of courrse. It won't tip overr the rleaf, right?" Those words were more addressed to the cat, who he seemed to think might actually understand them. And why not? As he was learning in his classes, animals were often far smarter than humans gave them credit for.
Anandi had gone off in a huff, but that was okay. She would calm down later, and then they would fix everything again. Pushing his glasses up on his nose, Qing finally glanced at a clock, and winced. Was that upside down? No, the twelve was at the top. He was late for class! Grabbing a textbook from the far side of the table, he gave the potted leaf an affectionate pat. It was all he had time for, as he nearly tripped over the tiger in his haste to get out the door. Hopefully it wouldn't hold a grudge. And if it did... well, then there would be two testy cats he'd be bunking with.

Qing's Notes There was a letter from the people at the Eden Project, along with a pot and soil. If the leaf is going to grow, it makes sense that it would need to be planted first. I was not sure how to go about it at first, but Anandi provided some advice. Surprisingly, the leaf came out of her hair freely. That was good; she would not like it if we had to cut it out.
Complicating things was the appearance of a cat. Or a tiger, but with unusual coloring. And it didn't "appear" so much is come to life, from a statue that Anandi was sent. It knocked over the leaf, but fortunately didn't disturb it too much. In fact, the cat, or tiger with unusual coloring, seems to be set on staying near the potted leaf at all times. It is strange, since to the best of my knowledge there is no connection between the two, but if they are separated, the cat will try to scratch me. It is most inconvenient, and I have taken the precaution to borrow a box of bandaids from the laboratory.
The leaf in itself has not taken root. However, it also has not withered or dried. I take care to mist the leaf and the soil daily, and that seems to be the right course of action. Until I see signs that other means are needed to ensure the wellfare of the leaf, I will continue in this way. Otherwise, there is very little to report. The leaf has not changed, but that may not be a bad thing. I will continue observing, and wait until a better idea occurs.
Anandi was angry when the altercation with the pot occurred, but she seems to have adjusted well. She is pleased that the leaf does not have to reside in her hair. She also seems to have conversations with the cat, but this is unproven and requires more observation.
It is an interesting turn of events, and I am curious to see where it will lead. I only hope the conclusion hurries itself up a bit.

Tyyne originally found the leaf lying among thorns, and it seems to have returned there. Thick green spikes have emerged from the soil around the leaf and arc over it, as if protecting it from something.
What's going on?
