Despite her speed, Efreet was ready for her. Snatching a boulder from beneath a cracked pillar, he heaved it at her, catching her lightning harmlessly and flying towards her. Rosel barely managed to dodge out of the way, and it clipped her shoulder as it went by. Spun off balance, she called a stream of water from her hands and flung a spray of it towards him. It was awkward and she landed firmly on her rump, looking up to see if it had hit.

But again he was too fast. When she looked up, Efreet had dodged around a pillar, away from her water and giving him a perfect shot to swing his massive fist into her shoulder. She heard it pop as she flew into the next pillar, but she had enough time to notice it wasn't broken and to be thankful it wasn't her casting arm. As Efreet's footsteps thundered forward for a followup attack, she called her fire magic this time. Burn him with his own element, she thought angrily as flames spouted from her fingers and her shoulder throbbed painfully.

Efreet's laughter shook the walls of the sanctum. "Fire? You mean to use fire on me? The fire god?"His laughter was punctuated by a sudden swing of his fist into the side of her head. A gush of warmth flooded onto her shoulder and she tried not to think about the amount of blood that was spilling out of her. But Efreet was close now, winding up for another attack. Rosel's chaos came to mind, but she couldn't muster the strength to pull it into form and shot out a spray of ice crystals instead.

She should have known better, was her last thought before Efreet's blow fell onto her injured shoulder and it popped out into an ugly angle. Ice was useless in this heat, evaporating before it even touched the raging god. She held in her cry of pain, telling herself again that at least it wasn't her casting arm and pulled for water again. She would be damned if she would let this creature put her down.

A cry escaped her as he grabbed her by her injured shoulder and threw her into the next pillar, before she could even pull her magic into casting. The pain in her shoulder was making it hard to think but she hung onto her thoughts as she saw Efreet straighten and step towards her again with a leer. Determination rose and she pushed herself off the floor teeteringly. Taking a deep breath, she saw Efreet look at her lowly and give a chuckle. "Is there pain yet, little one?"
Rosel didn't answer. She let lighting burst from her hand with a crack and an angry cry.

She missed yet again, but this time wasted no time in a followup. He clasped his hands together and swung at her, but he was far enough away that she had time to twist her injured shoulder away from the blow and took it to the chest. As her breath left her, she cried for lightning from above this time and closed her eyes against the pain.

The world went dark for a moment as she hit the floor in the center of the sanctum, without breath after Efreet's blow. As time started again, everything went in and out of focus. She saw Efreet's form flying towards her and she mustered her strength for more water. It burst from her in a weak flow, most of it raining back on her.

She knew it wouldn't be good enough as her own spell splashed back on her with all the force of a spring shower. It was humiliating and she sucked in her breath for Efreet's blow. There was a pause where she amost thought he wouldn't attack her, but a blow came to her left side and she hit the rock wall.
It wasn't supposed to happen this way, it was supposed to be like with Sann, her strength being enough to save her. As she slid to the ground, she grit her teeth. It shouldn't be like this, it couldn't be. With a cry of defiance and pain, she let an inferno loose from her fingertips and swore in her own mind she would not be put down by this or any god. Not even if he killed her.
