Eight
"How's this?" Shauna tapped her mother's shoulder to get her to turn around, doing a little turn to sow off the jacket she just tried on; it was black, but it was a nice jacket nonetheless, and it certainly was warm. Eight smiled and nodded, nursing some hot chocolate she's bought from a vendor outside the store they were in. Yes, they were on yet another trip to the mall! Eight had never gone so many times in her life! Shauna really did love shopping, it was kind of cute. "Weeeeeeeell?"

"I like it. Anything else catching your eye?" She nearly choked on a tiny marshmallow that somehow managed to get in her mouth undetected, watching as a tiny glint flashed through Shauna's amber eyes. Oh dear...what had she just done to herself? Her foxy daughter was looking around the store for things she had already looked at or things she hadn't noticed before; there were tons of things! "On second thought, why don't we--"

"These shirts are get two for ten dollars less! And these skirts are cute, and these pants, annnnd that sweater over there!" As each item was named it was collectively gathered into Shauna's arms, everything she touched was something she liked, and with every item Eight was slowly regretting bringing this up. Money wasn't a problem in the least, it was the carrying that would kill them!

"Now I see why Alex didn't want to come." Eight murmured quietly, putting a hand over her eyes with her thumb and middle finger rubbing her temples. "And you want...all of it?" The girl winced at that, spotting Shauna's enthusiastic nod and hearing her hurry to the counter to pay for everything. Lovely. Sighing and shaking her head in defeat, Eight trudged after her daughter while fishing through her purse for her wallet, finding the credit card she was looking for. "Are you trying to come up with ways to break my poor back?" She teased, taking the bags with all the clothes in them and walking out of the store with her daughter. Shauna laughed.

"Sure! I get to break your back! It's my job, after all. You're always complaining that something hurts...there was that one day you couldn't sit and just glared at Daddy like it was his fault!" She didn't get it, and it was probably better that she didn't. Eight's cheeks turned red, handing Shauna a few bags to keep her quiet before she said anything else.

"They're your clothes, you carry some. I need a hand to drink my hot chocolate."

"Dat'un?"

A small, scale mottled hand lifted, chubby fingers pointing towards a store that was full of clothing, shoes and accessories. It didn't seem to have anything in there that would appeal to a small child for more than a few moments, though he didn't seem to care as he turned his golden gaze up to the girl at his side, eyes questioning.

"Sure, why not?" Chey smiled down at Ophi, gently squeezing his hand and walking towards the store, pausing just long enough to call to the third and final member of their small party who was lingering a few yards behind, examining a case of jewelry in one of the store windows that they passed. "C'mon, Ma'man, we're going into this one."

The girl didn't even bother to wait for her mother to reply, shifting the two bags she carried in one hand, she pulled one of the two glass doors open and ushered the toddler in ahead of her; tail curling around to her side so it wouldn't get caught in the doorway. She bent over slightly to retrieve Ophi's hand once again, making sure to keep him at her side so he didn't wander off and get lost... again.

"Maybe they've got some clothes in here for you, you probably need them more than I do." Glancing back to the door as Rhia entered, Chey arched her brows at her mother as she came to stand next to them. The girl's crimson gaze pointedly fixed on the unlit cigarette in her mother's hand.

"What?" Rhia spat, her irritation evident immediately. She slid the cigarette behind one long ear and crossed her arms over her ample chest, looking down at her daughter through black lenses. "It's bullshit that you can't smoke here."

One of Chey's eyes squinted shut slightly, mouth quirking to one side as her mother swore. Leave it to Rhia to not care what habits Ophi picked up; now that he was starting to talk more, he frequently mimicked what people around him said.... and the people around him were prone to swearing. "I'm going to see if I can find some little kid clothes. Would you mind looking for a top for me to go with that black skirt we just got me?"

"Sure, I'll see what I can find." Rhia, holding a small bag of her own, rolled her shoulders, her large wings shifting with the movement, and bent down to plant a quick kiss on the top of Ophi's head. He tilted his head back to look up at her, a smile appearing and revealing his fangs. "Stay with Chey, alright? I'll catch up to you guys in a few minutes."

"Okay." He said quietly, turning and following Chey as she weaved through the racks of shirts, pants, skirts and jackets. Ophi was less interested in the clothes as he was the few people he saw in brief glimpses. His slitted eyes flicked to and fro, his hand unconsciously tightening around Chey's index finger, and every so often the tip of his forked tongue would slip out from between his grey-green lips. He was a little uncomfortable being in a place he didn't know, but the feeling wasn't that bothersome at the moment. He was with Chey, and he knew Mama was around somewhere; if anything bad were to happen, she was certainly the one he'd want around.

Rhia watched them go for a moment, dark lips pulled into a grim line as her mind wandered, and she abruptly gave her head a light shake; pulling herself back to the present with visible effort. Turning towards the closest group of tops, she glanced towards two individuals that caught her eye. Her tail idly swayed back and forth behind her as she studied them, a soft chime of recognition sounding in the back of her mind. After a moment or two of mulling it over and remembering nothing about the fox girl and the woman with the wings sprouting from her head, she simply pushed it from her mind and proceeded to look through the shirts, the fact that she had perhaps briefly seen them at a certain Halloween party failing to dawn on her.

Eight
Unfortunately for Eight the number of bags Shauna aquired were gradually growing...luckily one of them was really tiny since it was just a few pieces of feathered jewelry Shauna saw that she liked, she'd even been sweet enough to say that a purple, auburn and red feathered necklace reminded her of Alex, herself and Eight.

Eight had finished her hot chocolate ages ago at this point, but she bought another one just because she loved them so much, but Shauna still wasn't ready to leave! They'd been passing a store on the way out and almost made it when out of nowhere Shauna stopped to look at the store. "No, Shauna, I think we're about done for the day. Let's go somewhere and grab a bite to eat before we go home." Eight sighed, adjusting her hold on a couple bags before she turned to look at Shauna. Shauna, on the other hand, was too busy staring through the window at a green snake-boy that was walking through the store with two women; it wasn't a rude stare, although any kind of stare could be thought of as rude, but more like the kind of look Asra gave her sometimes - an affectionate look you'd give your kin. Eight didn't see this look, however. "Come on, Shauna."

"Can we just look around this one store for a little while? I promise that if I find anything I like I'll carry it! Pleeeeeease?" Shauna gave her mother the look that always won her over, but Eight was dead set on leaving for the day. The store wasn't going to just suddenly leave if Shauna didn't go in it today! They could visit it another time! "Come on! I want to!" She whined quietly to Eight so she wouldn't cause a scene, whimpering pathetically. Eight's eyebrow twitched a little, finding it strange that Shauna would whine this much just to go into a store.

"If you stick to your promise and stop whining too." Eight grumbled, shaking her head and slowly following after her daughter into the store. The first thing she saw was the demon woman, it was kind of hard to miss her...maybe if she just ignored her she wouldn't notice her, this woman didn't exactly look like the type of woman Eight would want to talk to. Shauna was too busy looking through clothes, it'd be weird if she just suddenly went up to the pair out of nowhere!

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia caught the woman's eye as she gazed over at the demoness, her nose crinkling just slightly in distaste as the woman averted her gaze just a little too quickly. Narrowing her pallid eyes behind the sunglasses she wore, she turned them down to the top she had been examining. It looked like something Chey would be interested in, and it was black with a splash of dark red across the front; perfect for the skirt her daughter had bought. She gave one last condescending glance towards the two that had entered, more so to the redhead than to the fox girl, and gave a soft snort; placing the shirt's hanger on her wrist and turning her winged back to them. Everyone was entitled to their rude moments, but anyone that knew Rhia could attest that she had lately been abusive to that privilege.

Chey and Ophi had ventured further towards the back of the store, though it was rather small compared to some stores that lined the mall's interior. The child was completely immersed in his surroundings, and for the moment clearly enjoying the sounds, smells and even the different textures of the fabric he touched as they brushed passed. Rarely did he like being in places that were so noisy and crowded, but for the moment he was enthralled with the seemingly endless supply of colorful fabric, tassels and belts. Golden eyes flashing, he reached out every chance he got and ran his fingers across an article of clothing or toyed with the beaded fringes of a belt, retreating to walk directly at Chey's side only when a stranger got too close. His thick tail curled curiously behind him the moment he caught sight of two forms through a makeshift aisle; both standing out against the store's other occupants just as much as he, Chey and Rhia did.

"Wook." He stopped abruptly, causing Chey to halt in her tracks and turn to look down at him. He was looking up at her expectantly, as if she should know immediately what he had wanted her to see. When she stood silent for a moment, brow furrowed as she gazed down at him in confusion, he blew air out his nose loudly and scrunched up his face a bit; clearly impatient with her lack of understanding. He turned and lifted his free hand, index finger pointing through the lines of clothing to the girl with the fox ears and tail and the woman she was with. "Righ' dere."

"Ophi, it's not polite to point at people." Chey said quietly, squatting down for a moment to scoop the winged boy into her arms. "They're both very interesting, yes, but we're here for clothes."

"Hat..." He said softly, ignoring Chey entirely. He was clearly puzzled that the woman should have small wings upon her head, and he continued to stare a moment longer; lower lip sticking out slightly and brows knitted, concentrating hard on the pair and trying to come to some sort of conclusion. "Dat... dat da dog?"

Chey laughed softly and pursed her lips together, trying to keep from attracting attention to herself, namely the attention of the two beings the toddler was so interested in. "No, Ophi, she's not a dog. She's maybe... a kitsune of some kind, a fox. Kind of like a dog, but not really, I don't think you'd understand if I explained it to you. Now let's look for more clothes, okay?"

This time Chey carried him, turning her attention back to searching the rest of the store for clothes, but Ophi didn't lose interest that quickly. He had never seen someone with wings on their head before, nor had he seen someone like the girl with the fox ears and tail. The closest thing he had seen was Madison, but she was different, and the snake child continued to peer over Chey's shoulder at the two, slitted eyes narrowed and bi-colored wings fidgeting curiously.

Eight
For now Eight was just going to sit here on a conveniently placed chair, not really all that interested in shopping anymore for today; Shauna was perfectly capable of calling for her if she was ever needed, and should someone try and run out of the store with her daughter...well she was right next to the door, so good luck, pal! Eight yawned and nursed her hot chocolate, looking through a few of the bags (or rather all of them it seemed) Shauna had left with her. Her headwings twitched a bit when she heard a snort and the rustle of feathers, glancing up in the corner of her eye to see that the demon woman had turned. Eh, oh well! Must have been for the best! She didn't really feel like talking right now anyway, she was too tired.

Shauna gave the pair a glance every now and then, smiling softly at how interest the little snake boy was about the clothing. Had she been that curious when she was his age? Her ear twitched a bit when she was called a dog, however, and she pouted a little bit. A dog?! Her ears pinned down against her hair at that statement, tail swaying a little as the girl who appeared to be his sister explained that she was a fox; that was much better. The fox ventured to turn her head fully to the two when they turned around, ears perking up in surprise when she discovered that the little boy was still watching her. Aww!

Taking a step or two closer, Shauna wiggled a few fingers at Ophi in greeting, spotting a shirt in the corner of her eye. Ooh, that shirt looked nice...and if only it looked like it'd fit. She made a face when she picked it up, turning to Ophi with a questionable look on her face like she was asking for his opinion. Humor the child, Shauna! He looked so curious! It was adorable!

Rhiannon Everwind
Chey had, like her mother, been drawn towards a little black shirt with a small, colored design on the front, only this shirt had its sides cleaved in two and held together by thin, red ribbons that crisscrossed up the sides. Her crimson eyes sparked at the sight of the top, all thoughts of children's clothing vanishing, and she set Ophi down next to her so she could hold it up and admire it. "Hey, Ophi, what do you think of... Ophi?"

She arched one brow and looked down, noting that the child was still completely ignoring her. Lifting her eyes, she followed his line of sight to where the girl he had been studying earlier was looking at a rack of shirts, and the young demon quirked her mouth and shrugged her shoulders lightly, turning her own attention back to the tops in front of her. "No wonder Ma'man kept you, you're as weird as the rest of us."

Ophi continued to pointedly ignore Chey, intently gazing across at the fox girl. He knew she was only pretended to not look at them; unlike Chey, he was able to see this clearly. Amused by the wave she offered him, his scaly lips twitched into a small grin and he glanced back to Chey, who was rummaging through a line of tops, apparently looking for her size. One couldn't really blame her for taking her eyes off the child, though Rhia certainly would have; both of her parents weren't known for their attention spans.

Ophi turned back to the girl to find she had picked up a nearby top and was now looking at him expectantly. His brow furrowed a moment, feathered wings rustling softly, before he took a small step away from Chey. Glancing back to make sure she wasn't looking and thus wouldn't scold him (as she had done in the previous store when he had ventured off), he turned and slowly wandered over to the fox girl; neck craning slightly so he could look at the top she held. He looked down at his own black t-shirt and then back up at the top she held, which looked only slightly bigger than the one the toddler currently wore.

Looking around for a moment, he reached up and grabbed the bottom hem of a dark orange shirt that hung nearby, a stylized, golden bird printed across the breast, and gave it a strong jerk. The shirt came off the hanger, leaving it naked upon the bar it hung, and the shirt came down upon the boy's head. His cobra hood flared slightly at this, tail lashing behind him and wing feathers bristling before he pulled the shirt from his head, blinking and turning back to the fox girl. Slitted eyes meeting hers, he slowly held it out to her, voice soft, "Dis one?"

Eight
He was more adventurous than she'd thought! Shauna smiled sweetly and kneeled down so she was almost level with the little snake boy, quietly watching him come over; this was very good, because she'd originally planned on somehow scooting close enough to strike conversation...but that might have been awkward, she preferred this much more. Shauna had wandered off enough times to make Eight die of a heart attack if it hadn't just been discovered that she was merely around the corner, behind something or on the other side of something her mother was standing in front of.

She blinked once or twice when Ophi suddenly grabbed at a shirt within his reach, putting the other shirt she'd picked back onto the rack and reaching over to help him, but by the time she was close enough to get the shirt off the hanger it was already on top of the boy's head. Shauna put a hand over her mouth and giggled softly. That was so adorable! Closing one amber eye, Shauna inspected the dark orange shirt he was holding out to her. "That's a lovely pick. I like that one too." She reached out to take the shirt and hold it against herself, looking down for a moment before holding the tag out to check the size. Wow! It would fit her too! "Such a pretty color too, isn't it? My name's Shauna...I take it yours is Ophi?" That girl kept calling him Ophi, so she could probably assume that she was correct.

Rhiannon Everwind
While Shauna was examining the shirt, Ophi chanced a glance back in the direction of Chey, who was currently trying to get Rhia's attention without yelling at her. He pursed his lips for a moment, knowing that he should head back over there before Chey looked down and found him missing, or before Rhia came over and found that Chey had lost him again. Turning back to Shauna he looked up at her as she spoke to him, golden eyes shining dully.

"Taun." He said softly, pressing his tongue against his fangs as he tried out the new word. "Tauna. No dog." He shook his head - more to himself than to her - and promptly ignored Shauna's subtle question about his name, instead looking back around at the clothes. He found it rather entertaining to pick out clothes for people, and since Chey never seemed to let him do it (though occasionally she did allow him to pick clothes for her), he wasn't about to let this opportunity slip through his small fingers.

Slitted eyes casting a slightly guilty look towards Chey's back, he eased past Shauna in a manner that made it clear his looks weren't the only thing related to a snake; steps quiet and nimble. He reached up and snatched one of Shauna's fingers, wings folding tightly against his body and thick tail curling behind him as he gently tugged her, "Walk. Walk dis way."

Eight
Shauna tilted her head a little, listening quietly to Ophi testing out her name. She'd give him a little help when he was older, his S's must be like Shauna's L's when she was his age, they needed coaxing. The fox giggled and nodded, hugging the shirt against her chest and getting on both knees so she was more comfortable now. "That's right! I'm a fox, not a dog." She watched him look at the other clothing, inspecting them for nice things that would probably look good on her, Ophi was so sweet! "See anything else you approve of?"

She looked up at the girl he'd been with before the last time Ophi checked on her, her smile softening a little. Shauna wouldn't let Ophi go too far and out of sight, she'd rather not hear both of their parents scolding them - hers for drawing Ophi away, and Ophi's for wandering away to complete strangers. But life was all about taking risks and meeting new people! If the world was always worried about strangers then there'd be no acquaintances, no friends, maybe even no families! A person was only a stranger until you got to know them, after all, and this was exactly what they were doing!

Now where was he planning on going? Shauna blinked, turning to whatever direction Ophi was leading her and quietly following after him. Walk this way? Why? Were they walking to the other woman she'd seen him with or was he just trying to get away from the other girl and out of sight? If that was the case then Shauna'd have to stop him as soon as she realized it. "Where're we going, Ophi?"

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi didn't seem that interested in the differences between fox and dog, and though he had no idea what a fox was, other than an orange and white dog, he seemed content enough at the moment. A fox, not a dog. He shuffled along silently, slowly, eyes moving from his left to his right and back again, nearly in perfect unison with his tail. He liked it all really, and couldn't quite keep the small smile from touching his lips. Though he was part snake and prone to liking dark, enclosed spaces, he was also nothing more than a child; the colors, styles and textures capturing his eye and feeding his curiosity.

"That's what I'd like to know." Came a silky voice from behind the pair, seconding Shauna's query about where it was they were going. The boy stopped and blinked a few times, tail and wings drooping as he realized he was most likely in trouble. Chey was standing behind them with her hands on her slender hips, a single brow arched, "Would you mind telling me who's leading who this time?"

"Hi." Ophi said in the same quiet voice, peeking around Shauna's legs and turning his golden eyes up to look at Chey's disapproving face. He released Shauna's finger and stepped around her so he was in front of the blonde, pointing back at Shauna and doing a damned good job of pretending he had done nothing wrong. "Not da dog."

Chey managed a half-smile for the child before turning her gaze back to Shauna, tail languidly moving about. She seemed an expert at sending multiple meanings with just one look; her smile all rainbows and sunshine, yet her blood-hued eyes regarded the other girl with more than a little suspicion. "And you are?"

Eight
Every so often Shauna would check behind her to make sure the girl who was supposed to be taking care of Ophi was still in sight. It was cute to see Ophi so interested in picking clothes out, letting him lead her around for the most part. The girl jumped a little when an unfamiliar voice suddenly spoke out in her direction, looking up behind her with wide, startled eyes. Oh! It was the girl who'd been watching Ophi!

...

Oh...it was the girl who'd been watching Ophi...crap, she was in trouble now wasn't she? Shauna smiled sheepishly and stood up letting go of Ophi's hand and turning to face Chey. Oh dear...this might not end well... "Eh heh...it--" She blinked and looked down at Ophi when he spoke, bending down enough to pat his hooded head. "You're so cute." Shauna giggled, watching the boy point at her and speak. What did he mean by 'not da dog?' The fox's ears perked up when she was addressed again, standing up straight before she answered.

"I'm Shauna. Er...sorry about all this, but I saw him in the window and thought he was so cute! I wasn't trying to steal him or anything, promise. He was um..." She looked down at the shirt she'd been given earlier, giggling and holding up the top for Chey to see, still smiling. "Helping me shop! I wasn't going to let him lead me out of your sight." The girl didn't seem phased by the look in Chey's eyes, and it was probably because she knew that the girl had every right to be suspicious. The world wasn't always the safest place!

"He started it anyway~" Shauna teased, pointing at Ophi like a child and sticking her tongue out at him.

Rhiannon Everwind
Chey studied Shauna intently, slitted pupils widening a touch as she watched the other girl lightly pat Ophi's head. Whether she was indeed telling the truth or not was still to be seen, but the young demon didn't see any harm in the situation. Even if Shauna had intended on taking Ophi, the girl wouldn't have gotten him past Rhia. Besides, it's not like Ophi had never wandered off before, so the girl's story probably wasn't a fabrication. The child seemed to get along better with older children, not younger children (or adults for that matter), and thus tended to gravitate towards that field when he didn't feel like being alone.

Ophi blinked as Shauna stuck her tongue out, momentarily perplexed as to why she was doing this. He hadn't exactly been paying attention to what had just been said, he was only half-listening for his name or waiting for Chey to take his hand and drag him back to Mama. Upon Shauna's teasing gesture, however, he let out a soft burst of air, the sound a soft hiss as the red and white feathers on his wings ruffled. His own tongue, forked and a dark grey in color, slipped out from between his scaled lips for a moment; the tip flicking a few times before it slipped back into his mouth and out of sight.

Unlike what her brother would have done, Chey kept the rude comments and questions that churned in her head silent, instead holding out her hand to Ophi after he had retaliated. The winged boy stepped to her side and curled his hand around her index finger, both of them turning their gazes back to Shauna. The blonde tilted her head a little, golden flecks in her small horns catching the light and throwing it off in dozens of small sparks. "He is cute, but he can also kill you. I suggest you keep away from his mouth." She wasn't trying to be rude, she was simply stating a fact. "I'm Cheyna, by the way, and I prefer Chey. Ophi and I are here with-" She paused a second, the word she was about to speak surely unintelligible to the fox girl, thus rephrasing the statement. "-with our mother. She hasn't been in the best of moods the past few days, but you're welcome to shop with us."

Eight
There was no chance Shauna would lie about something as serious as a kidnapping unless it was some sort of game, this girl was just too damn suspicious! Why would a young girl like her, that looked no older than twelve or thirteen, kidnap a young boy? She had no motive, no tact, no possible way of making it out of the store. Shauna was probably the opposite of Ophi when it came to socializing, because she knew more younger children than children her age or older than her! Asra, Elle and Lonan were the only ones older than her, and then there was Ror, the boy she'd met before, Brimstone, 'Stala and now Ophi! The only person her age was Vidya!

Shauna blinked at Ophi's hiss, frowing. "I was only kidding, I didn't mean to make you mad, Ophi." Other than that she wasn't phased by his reaction to her joke, thinking it must have been nerves making him behave differently than the innocent little boy she was just shopping with. Had she been in his shoes she probably would have done something similar! Only she wouldn't act like a snake, she'd act like a distressed fox. She bent down for a moment to give him a quick hug in apology before she heard what Chey said, both ears perking up and bristling. Kill...you...?

"...I guess that makes sense..." She murmured, petting Ophi's hood and standing up again. That must have been some curse, being like an actual cobra with venom running through your body; she always did feel bad for real cobras and other venomous snakes when she saw them on tv or in books. "I'll just keep that in mind for future reference!" Her bright, happy smile returned at the introduction, folding her hands behind her back and bowing briefly at the waist. That wasn't something Eight had taught her, it was just a spur of the moment kind of thing.

"It's nice to meet you, Chey! I'm here with my mom too, but she's too lazy and tired to stand up again unless she really has to right now." She snickered and checked behind her on her mother, seeing that Eight was contently sitting in the chair finishing her hot chocolate and...hey! Where'd she get that cookie?! "I'd love to shop with you too, it's nicer to shop in groups or pairs, y'know?"

Rhiannon Everwind
Being hugged was not something the serpent child was used to and it showed as he flared his hood, slitted pupils dilating slightly. He didn't seem to really mind the hug, but he didn't return it either, instead simply allowed Shauna quickly and lightly embrace him. As if to back up what Chey had just said, the boy yawned, revealing the pair of long, needle point fangs.

"Yeah, it is." Chey smiled and flicked her pointed ears, glad to have someone who was - appearance wise - around her own age. Not that she didn't mind Ophi's and Rhia's company; she loved them both dearly and spent as much time as she could with them, especially after what had happened a few weeks before. The same went with her brother, Cheylan, even if he wasn't the best of companionship more often than not. It was just nice to talk with someone who wasn't a family member once in awhile. "We haven't been shopping that long, we were actually looking for clothes for Ophi, but me being me, I found a few things. And Ma'man," Chey lifted her slender brows and shook her head a little, an amused smile on her dark lips. "She's worse than I am a lot of the time. She has more clothes than everyone in our house combined, and still she goes out and buys more."

The feathers of Ophi's wings ruffled and he flapped them once, his thick tail swaying behind him. He gently tugged on Chey's finger and looked up at her with his golden eyes, clearly done with simply standing here and talking. There was still much to see in the store, and in the mall itself, and the child seemed to think that it wouldn't sit around and wait for the two girls to finish talking. Chey laughed softly, the sound clear and melodious, "Okay, Ophi, whereto first?"

He looked up to Chey for a moment and then turned his attention to Shauna, at first acting as if he wanted one of them to decide. After a brief pause he turned and looked around, the tip of his tongue sliding into view only to disappear a split second later as he pointed in a random direction. "Dat way."

Eight
"I know how that is, my mom will take me shopping for me and then she finds a ton of things for herself as well." She giggled, blinking and glancing back at the other woman looking through clothes on the other side of the store. Was she 'Ma'man'? Her ears twitched when she heard the rustle of feathers, looking down at Ophi and smiling. Aww! He was just so cute and impatient! Eight told her she had her moments like that when she was little too, were all children like that then? Shauna knew so many you'd think she'd know...hm...Shauna needed more friends her age, most definitely.

"Lead the way, Ophi~!" Shauna chirped when Ophi looked up at her, following the little snake-boy's gaze while he looked around. Which way, which way, so many directions to choose from. Looking up when he finally said which way to go, the fox smiled again. "Oh look, there's boys clothes and shoes over in that direction." A pity Shauna would probably never have to wear shoes...well it was almost a pity, they looked uncomfortable in Shauna's eyes. Why where shoes when you can always have your feet free? They never got cold thanks to the fact that her feet were furry little paws, and shoes made noises when you walked! Being shoeless like she always was made her light on her feet and completely silent, thus ends Shauna's thoughts on shoes. Convincing, no? She'd probably ban the wearing of shoes if she controlled Gaia's laws; what a funny thought.

Rhiannon Everwind
Chey arched her brows for a moment and gently guided the child in a direction they hadn't been yet, taking care not to guide him too blatantly; he preferred to go where he wanted and had never been afraid to voice his disgust at being dragged somewhere. Carefully maneuvering him towards the boys clothing, she flipped one of her bi-colored braids over her shoulder with her free hand and glanced over to Shauna. "We probably won't find anything for him here, he likes picking out clothes for other people, but he doesn't really have any interest in picking out clothes for himself. You can't really pick something out for him either, he refuses to wear it."

Ophi made a face at Shauna's mention of shoes and Chey laughed quietly, giving another soft shake of her head. "He doesn't like shoes either, I'm not sure why though. He usually just ends up wearing his slippers out places. Ma'man has a horrible time getting him to wear something more than a pair of pants, I think most shirts bother his wings, I can understand that though, alot of them bother mine too."

As if to confirm what the blonde demoness had just said, Ophi fluttered his wings a few times and tugged on the collar of his t-shirt, glancing up at them for a moment before turning his attention back to everything eye level.

Eight
"Aw. I wonder why that is?" It was sweet that Ophi liked to pick out clothes for other people...but did he not want clothes of his own? This was an odd situation his family had. As they passed a cute maroon shirt Shauna plucked it off the rack and held it up against herself, obviously pleased with it since she kept it.

Shauna's ears perked and her head turned back to Chey when the topic of shoes came up, smiling and nodding in understanding. "I can't wear shoes at all!" She giggled, pointing down at her paws. "It's a real bother when I come across a place with a no shoes, no service policy! Have to explain to them that I can't wear shoes." She sighed, shaking her head. "But my dad has wings! He just wears shirts with openings in the back! I think they usually have a button somewhere to keep it closed." But where to get one of these shirts Shauna had no idea. Asra had wings too...but he just walked around naked except for his ribbons all day. At least he had the ribbons.

Rhiannon Everwind
Cheyna smiled as Shauna acquired a shirt on their way to the boys clothing; that was exactly the kind of thing that happened in her family all the time! She nodded absently, smile widening a bit as she looked down at Shauna's feet. "I'm not sure why he doesn't like shoes, his feet aren't big or anything, maybe they're just plain uncomfortable for him."

The girl's smile faltered slightly at Shauna's mention of her father, but she recovered with a rueful shake of her head. At that same moment Ophi had paused and was now looking at a black t-shirt with a silver outline of a snake etched on the chest. Bending down, she gave his hand a light squeeze and arched her brows beneath her bangs, "Do you like that shirt, sweetie?"

The serpent child seemed to think this over for a moment, golden eyes narrowing and tongue gently pressing against one of his thin fangs, but after the brief pause he shook his head, "No."

"Oh. Well, it was worth a shot." Chey straightened up and gave him a smile before offering Shauna a small shrug. "You want to help me see if there's something here he likes? I'm not sure how long Ma'man is planning on staying in this store, it doesn't have her kind of taste." Chey grinned and released Ophi's hand, letting the winged boy go where he wanted and her simply follow, but not before shifting the two bags a little and discreetly pulling one of the silver snake shirts off the rack; adding it to the few clothing items she had draped over her arm.

Inle-roo
Calumet was doing his damndest to run away from his guardian. They had been walking (as they did when Inle's car broke down, which was all the time) and eventually Cal got squirmy, so he was let down. He clearly saw this as an opportune time to try--again--to escape and immediately began toddling down the sidewalk at top speed, which wasn't very fast.

He'd run, run, run for a few minutes and then stop, panting, and look back to see if he'd put any distance of merit between himself and Inle, only to frown when he saw her just as far away now as she had been a few minutes ago and then start the process all over again. He was getting tired. Inle was most amused.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ever since their encounter with Shauna and Eight, Rhia had found it nearly impossible to keep Ophi from going outside. Not wanting to go outside, obviously that couldn't be helped much, but the child simply refused to stay indoors, and thus he had always seemed to find a way to get outside. No matter how hard she tried, there seemed to be a spot in the house that he kept going back to, and so far she hadn't found it. She wasn't sure if it was because of the girl Chey had told her about, or simply because he liked being outside. Either way, she tried to look on the bright side of things; at least she didn't have think to about Mejis.

Ophi wandered down the street with Rhia striding slowly alongside, no longer needing to hold her hand for fear of losing his balance. He had become quite adept at walking on his own, but that didn't mean he liked walking everywhere. Turning his green, scaled face up to Rhia, he held out his arms and rose up on his tiptoes; wings spreading slightly and tail coiling. "My get up."

Rhia blew a loose curl away from her face and bent over to scoop the child up, setting him onto her hip so one of her arms was free. When they turned a corner, Rhia and Ophi both were startled to find a small, black-haired toddler fly straight into the demoness's legs. Had it been anyone other than a child, Rhia would promptly start swearing in their face, but since it was a child - surely no older than Ophi - she simply bent forward a little, smooth brow creasing slightly, "Are you okay?"

Ophi's golden eyes assessed the boy as his arm curled around Rhia's neck, chubby fingers toying with the red and gold locks, and his wings drew in tight against his back. Seeing Mama talk to the boy, however, seemed to be all Ophi needed to relax a bit. Narrowing his eyes to slits, his hood flexed slightly as he lifted his hand and gave a small wave with his fingers. "Hi."

Inle-roo
He was ALMOST there, yes! All he had to do was turn that corner and Inle would be out of sight, woo! If only for a few minutes; well, a victory was a victory. He sped up, intending to make this victory last when WHAMMO! Cal ran into what felt like a brick wall, bouncing off before losing his already precarious balance and falling a**-first onto the sidewalk. Ouch. He frowned, a hand wavering in the air as he tried to decide what aching part of his body to rub first.

His gaze wandered up up up the brick wall's body, rainbow-colored eyes finally blinking as he looked from strange-looking mother to strange-looking son. Oh. His kind of people, then. He couldn't very well respond to either of them, so he settled on mimicking the snake-bird-boy's motions with the arm he had yet to do anything with.

Behind him, Inle laughed, hardly the sympathetic mother. "Sorry about that," she said, tone implying that she wasn't, really. How could she be, when it was so funny?

Rhiannon Everwind
"It's okay, I know how kids are." I've had more than my fair share of them. Rhia smiled, deciding to keep that last bit to herself. Which was odd, but then she was in a rare mood and didn't feel like trying to insult anyone. "I guess there was no harm done."

Ophi scrutinized the boy carefully before looking back up at Rhia, "Down?"

Rhia let the boy slip from her grasp and drop lightly to the floor, holding onto one of his hands to make sure he didn't hurt himself. His two-tone wings flapped twice before nestling against his back and he stood on Rhia's left, looking up at the strange woman for a moment before returning his slitted gaze to the boy in front of him. He blinked and frowned a moment before pointing, his thick tail swaying behind him, "Need hep get up?"

Inle-roo
Inle stopped behind Cal, shins pressing against his back and boots to either side of him. She looked down and smiled liplessly; he looked up and frowned. "That's a surprise, I always figured he had a hard head." Cal's frown turned upside down and he giggled silently before turning his rainbow-colored eyes back to the pair.

His eyes widened a little at the sight of the strange looking boy so close to him. He looked funny, like a cartoon character, and Cal had an urge to pet Ophi's strange head extension like he might a kitty--or would if the kitties ever sat still for him. He reached up with both arms, making grabby-hands at the snakeboy, though it could easily be mistaken for a positive response to the question.

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia gave a small smile of her own and brushed another stray curl away from her face; tucking it back behind her long ear. "I suppose it's good that he's not hurt. My legs have survived being hit with things harder than his head, I'm sure."

Ophi appeared to rethink his offer to help the other child up as the small dark hands clenched and unclenched in front of him. He pressed himself closer to Rhia's bare leg for a moment, wings opening a bit behind him as he gently tugged on the collar of his t-shirt. After a moment he lifted one hand, scarcely leaning forward, and held it out to the boy, golden eyes glittering warily at the movements Cal's hands were making.

Inle-roo
Cal frowned as the other toddler backed away, looking up at his reluctant mother once more as if for clarification--what did the boy mean by offering help and taking it away? Inle nudged him forward with a foot, encouraging further action. Cal looked back at Ophi and was rewarded with his new, more tentative offer. He beamed up at the snake-boy and immediately latched onto his hand, pulling--of course, what he didn't know is that he was supposed to be hefting himself upwards in order for this helping hand to work.

Inle winced. "Cal, be careful--" but it was too late for such warnings; Cal pulled at Ophi's arm with what little strength he had.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi immediately regretted offering his hand as Cal clamped down on his small hand so tight it almost hurt. Issuing a soft hiss at the tug, the sound was accompanied with a brief glimmer of his fangs and a quick flick of his forked tongue; bi-colored wings flapping. He planted his heels on the pavement as best he could, trying to keep from tipping forward, but the effort was too late and he couldn't stop himself. With a soft, despairing cry, he pitched forward and sprawled on top of the other child; his cobra hood opening wide in surprise.

The whole scene brought forth a quiet laugh from Rhia's dark lips, but she quickly pursed her lips together to hide the smirk. Dropping down onto her haunches, her tail coiled in the air behind her as she fell into a slightly more maternal role, yet didn't offer either child a hand up. Instead, she simply grinned down at them and pushed her sunglasses higher up on the bridge of her nose, "Are you guys alright?"

Ilistala
The beach was a place of happy memories for Ioyla Infriti. When she was little, sometimes her mother would take her to the shores of Gambino, and there, Ioyla could spend hours and hours making sand castles, chasing the waves, or flinging small balls of fire at the gulls, who would squawk and caw and flap their wings. Sometimes, they would dive-bomb to the picnic her mother had set up on the dryer sand, near the dunes, but never would they prevail; Infriti always had a nice belt of flames erupt in a circle around the picnic blanket. This always amused young Ioyla, and she would often wish to be bigger and stronger, just like her ma.

And now, years later and with a child of her own to wow and impress, Ioyla hated the christ out of the beach. It was too sandy, full of obnoxious tourists, and the awful racket the tide made! It was a wonder why this sandy pit of hell wasn't destroyed. Hell, if she could, Ioyla would probably set the entire shore on fire (excluding the tourists, don't want to get too crazy now, do we?).

Grumbling and complaining, Ioyla set up a spot near the dunes, just like her mother, complete with a huge towel spread out on the sand, a cooler filled with sandwhiches and drinks, and a pile of smaller, less sandy towels, used to dry off when Ilistala was done romping around in the ocean.

Speaking Stala, the little Shattered toddler whined with each step across the hot sand. "Mammaaaa!" she squealed, feet dancing. Her talking had improved greatly, but she still spoke in broken English and a few babble words. And, still, her favorite word was her first word: ******** arched a brow at her kid, unfolding a plastic chair. "Too hot?" Which was strange, really: Ilistala was the physical embodiment of fire, and hot sand was bothering her that bad? What a weird kid. Ilistala squealed again and dived onto the towel spread across the sand, fingers working into the soft material.

"Mamma, too hot."

Ioyla rolled her eyes, finally finished with the chair. She plopped it down into the sand, pushed until the legs worked themselves into grooves, and then plopped her own self into it. A book was laying atop the towel, and Ioyla swiped it up into her lap. "Well," she said, nodding her head toward the ocean, so big and blue, "why don'tcha go see what's goin on with the little critters down'n the water. Yeah?"

Stala, apparently pleased with that idea, lept to her feet and bolted across the sand, both wings and hair fluttering with the breeze she created. Ioyla watched her dash to the ocean, smiled, and cracked open her book. Time to relax...

Meanwhile, Ilistala reached a spot of the ocean where there were no tourists, no lifeguards, and, turning to gaze behind herself, no mamma. Whoops! Oh, well, this could be fun! She dropped to her knees and began poking her fingers in the water, intent on finding one of these critters Ma was talking about. Nothing but boring old water. Lame!

Rhiannon Everwind
"No."

"Then fine, go on. Do whatever the hell you want. I'm sick of hearing you say no right now."

Ophi watched with narrowed, golden eyes as his Mama ran her hands through her hair, black nails scraping against her scalp. Clearly, she was annoyed, yet the toddler held his ground, refusing to give in. He didn't understand why it was so important that he eat the sandwich she had just made for him. Wasn't he allowed to change his mind and no longer want it once it was done? She was being silly.

"You're being unreasonable," Rhia commented, as if she had read his mind. She picked up the sandwich and helped him down off the chair, far too much on her mind for her to sit and argue with him. "But it's okay, go on and play, one of the other kids'll eat it."

He watched her a moment longer before flapping his wings once and hurrying out of the kitchen, his Mama's pale eyes following him as he went, holding something that the boy was too young to notice, and too infuriated to care about.

Eat the sandwich, how absurd! If she had made it when he had wanted it neither of them would have gotten upset, but she took forever and by the time it was ready he was no longer hungry and didn't want it. Honestly, he couldn't figure out his mother sometimes, no matter how hard he tried.

Wandering about the new beach house was much different than the other house. For one, there weren't very many people around here, which meant it was quieter, which of course he liked. It got rather hot outside, but he could find plenty of dark spots to crawl into inside that were cool, so that wasn't a problem either. All in all, he liked this house better than the old house.

Stepping up to one of sliding glass doors, he pressed his palms against it and looked out onto the deck; strips of the waves breaking against the shore glimpsed through the slits in the wooden railing. His forked tongue flickered out for a moment and he craned his neck, rising to his tiptoes, as he spotted something just in front of the surf, something that stood out against the blue and white of the ocean and the blanched color of the sand. It looked like a person, and he had never seen anyone along this strip of beach before, so he was at once interested.

Turning his gaze from outside to in, he reached up and pushed the lock of the sliding door up and grabbed the handle with one hand. He gave it a few hard tugs before it finally slid a few inches open and he was able to slid his hands into the gap, grabbing the door and pulling it open farther. Slipping out onto the deck, he inhaled sharply and blinked a few times; the temperature already noticeably hotter out here than in the house.

Tail and wings fidgeting in the heat, he stepped over to the railing and peeked through it, again spotting the person right away. It was a girl, and she looked to be around his age, and she was... jabbing at the sand just above the tide. He wondered briefly what it was she was doing, and then decided to go see for himself.

Drawing back from the railing, he turned and hurried over to the small gate that led to the stairs, and thus, down to the beach. Rising to his tiptoes again, he reached up and pushed the latch on the gate, having a little trouble keeping the latch up and pulling the gate open at the same time. He managed, however, and was shortly down the stairs; bare feet immersed in the hot sand.

Looking a bit forlornly back up the staircase, he gently rubbed his hood, wishing he had brought a hat, but knew it was too late to go back now. Steeling himself, he began to trudge forwards towards the girl, golden eyes squinted against the bright sun until they were nothing more than two slits in his face.

He realized at that moment, as he stopped a few yards away from the girl, that he hated the sun.

Ilistala
It wasn't long before Ilistala was even aware that someone was behind her. She had only been poking around in the sand for such a short time, and already she had found special prizes: three seashells and a crab's claw. At one point, Stala stumbled across the smelly, gooey carcass of a jellyfish. She wanted to pick it up, proudly present it to Ma and perhaps even get a cookie for the effort, but upon touching it, Ilistala found the texture of the jellyfish to be too disgusting to even come close to. Way too slimey.

And so, carrying on until she was unwittingly in front of a rather cute beach house, Ilistala sat herself down in the cool sand, working her toes into the wetter parts, and her fingers into the dryer parts. The tide would wash up eveyr few seconds, churn around Stala, and then simply whisk itself away. It wasn't deep, and it wasn't that cold, either; in fact, it was just right. Spotting a pretty shell, she leaned forward and snatched it out of the foam just before it was carried out to sea. It was so pretty, too: creamy white with dark waves drawn over the ridges. The perfect size, too. Ma would love this!

And then a strange shadow descended upon Ilistala and her shell. It looked to be about her height, but shadows often stretched (or shrunk) things to bizarre proportions. He had a weird thing on his neck, kind of like that stupid Disney movie Ma showed her, about the elephant with those gigantic ears who could fly around...Ilistala suddenly turned, shell clutched in one hand, and she saw who it was: a snakeboy.

Under normal circumstances, had Ilistala, perhaps, not been the physical personification of fire, and had she not grown up in Gaia, she would have been frightened of this walking snake. His slit-eyes and slit-mouth, his hooded head and thick tail, his bloody-white wings...it really, truly, should have scared Ilistala. But it didn't. If anything, she was completely intrigued by him.

Stala pulled herself to her feet. Blinking, she wiggled her fingers for the friendly wave common among toddlers. "Hello," she said, voice husky with wonder and the steadily growing ability to form actual words.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi studied the items the girl carried before she noticed him, finding it odd that she should seem so interested in them. This stretch of beach was privately owned by his mother, thus there were never any tourists here and seashells were quite a common thing; he didn't think anything special of them. But if the beach belonged to his mother, the shells and such must also belong to her, and so this girl must be stealing from his mother. Both the fact that the orange-haired toddler might not know she was stealing and the fact that his mother probably wouldn't care about the shells never crossed his mind.

His golden eyes flashed in the sunlight as the girl turned to look up at him, fascination brimming in her fiery eyes. As she stood, his hood opened slightly, tail coiling, and the forked tip of his dark tongue slipped out between his scaled lips; flicking in the air before disappearing again. He found her wave a bit amusing and his lips twitched into a half smile, at least, until she spoke.

His eyes flickered from her hand to her face, the smile vanishing almost before it could be seen. He wasn't supposed to talk to people he didn't know, and he was quite certain he didn't know this girl, but she was around his age, wasn't she? She had wings like him, even if they were smaller and not feathered, and she had strange designs on her skin, like he had on his hood. The differences between these things didn't really matter to one so young, the simple fact that they were similar seemed to be the only interesting thing. Besides, he liked her eyes, and she was wearing something that looked like something Mama herself would wear (albeit a more modest version), so he was sure his mother would understand.

"Hi," He finally replied, lifting his hand and giving her a wave of his own, though his fingers remained stationary.

Ilistala
She said hello to him, he said hello to her, and the pleasent greetings were over. Now to introduce yourself! Stumbling just slightly in the sand, Ilistala would place one deep tan foot in front of the other, toes working into the gritty footing, eventually closing the small gap between herself and the Snakeboy. Stala piled all of her precious sea gifts into one hand and reached out with the other to suspend it in the air, in one of those weird hand-shakes Ma liked doing so much.

Shells and crab bits clattered against each other. Her wings tittered in the soft ocean breeze. Unsure of what to do or say next, Ilistala suddenly sank to the ground, whether or not her handshake was returned. She would gently pat the sand in front of her, inviting Snakeboy to sit with her, and spread her treasures across the sand. "Shells," she said absently, then: "sit wif me?"

Too young to understand it and too young to care, Ilistala felt some kind of connection with Snakeboy. He didn't look the same as her--although no one really did--but he seemed to have the same...same...feel. Her toddler mind failed to dig up the best word for what she was feeling, so Ilistala chalked the link between herself and the other to just one word: feel.

Rhiannon Everwind
The black slits in Ophi's eyes widened a margin as the girl stumbled towards him; hood expanding a bit and wing feathers ruffling themselves warily. His thick tail coiled in the air behind him as she shifted her load to one arm and extended her hand, golden eyes dropping to study her small fingers for a moment.

He wasn't about to shake her hand, and if she left it in the air like that much longer he'd scream, but she suddenly plopped down into the sand and he was able to relax a bit. His smooth brow creased for a moment, finding her a bit weird to offer him her hand and then take it away as if she didn't care. Eyeing the spot she patted through narrowed eyes, he opted to take a seat right where he stood, a small enough distance away from her to be near her, but not be "sitting next to her".

The serpent child was too interested in keeping a close eye on what she was doing to really feel any bond between the two, but subconsciously he knew they were both something special. Lightly plucking at the collar of his beige t-shirt, he pursed his scaled lips for a moment, looking over the things she had collected, before pointing to the crab claw, "Dat... fum a cab?"

Ilistala
Smiling as Snakeboy took the offered spot, Ilistala began arranging her shells from biggest to smallest. Then the crab claws, although she had only a few: biggest to smallest. She would work in silence, completely absorbed by her work. Strange that someone like her could have their attention captured by dead sea things.

Not until a little while did Ilistala realize her gifts were in question. Blinking, she looked up to find Snakeboy close, but not close enough to be friendly, which was slightly discouraging. Stala scooted forward, grunting, pushing her shells with her so as not to crush them. "Yes. Cab." She held one of the larger pincers up, zooming it in and out of Snakeboy's face. "Pinchy pinchy!"

She would giggle and scoot a little bit closer, a long streak of sand following, her desire to be friends with the creature like-her-but-not-like-her outweighing the obvious fact that he was uncomfortable and wary of her. Understandable, though: Ilistala was the one intruding on a private beach, stealing shells and crab bits, although ignorant of doing any kind of wrong. For Stala, these things were gifts the sea wanted to give to her. She giggled again and held out an extra pincer for Snakeboy to take, maybe play with her?

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi watched as she sorted out her shells and claws, not the least bit insulted that at first she seemed to ignore his question. He was actually more comfortable in silence, but he knew there were a lot of people that liked to talk, and his silence sometimes bothered them and made them leave. Since he liked her, and they seemed to be similar, he ventured a question so there was no silence.

He wasn't expecting her to scoot closer though, nor was he expecting her to shove the crab claw near his face repeatedly. His hood fully opened as the girl started the thrusting of the crab claw into his face, a soft hiss springing from his throat as his mouth opened; needle like fangs flexing. He knew she didn't mean anything by it, it was just a game, but still, he didn't like people trying to propel things into his face like that. His tail swayed back and forth behind him, creating a long groove in the warm sand, golden eyes narrowed warily.

"Don' do dat." He said quietly, lips pursed into a thin line as he hesitated a touch before accepting the claw she handed to him. He took a moment to study the claw, turning it over and over in his scaled hands. He had never actually picked one of these up before, though he had seen them along the beach many times. There were a few times where he had collected some seashells, but he tended to stick with them alone; avoiding the crustacean body parts and rotting seaweed. He gently pulled the pincers apart and then closed them, repeating this once more before holding the claw up and lightly pinching the one that his new friend held. "I got you."

Ilistala
At first, Ilistala was a tad disheartened by Snakeboy's first reaction to the crab claw--it was only a joke! But when he took his own claw and began peeling back the pincers, Stala couldn't help but giggle. "Yes," she said in a very slight toddler-lisp, "got me!" She would fold her legs over each other Indian-style and quietly sit there, sometimes bobbing her head to a beat only she could hear.

After a little while of silence, Stala suddenly pulled herself to her feet. It was difficult feat to pull off, being tiny a chubby and therefor off-balance, but she managed it all the same, and when both feet were firmly planted on the sand, Ilistala would hold out a hand for Snakeboy to help himself up with, too. "Stala," she stated, using her other hand to tap her chest. "Snakeboy?" She paused, wiped a gritty arm over her forehead and effectively speckled it with sand, and hiccuped. "Go chase fishies?"

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi's slitted eyes fluttered over the girl as she giggled, watching silently as she crossed her legs. He withdrew the claw for a moment, again studying her wings, her hair, and especially her eyes. A tiny smile appeared on his scaled lips as she bobbed her head up and down, nothing more than a twitch at the corner's of his lips, but if you knew the boy you would know it was a smile. This girl was the first toddler he had spent any time with alone, aside from Chey and Lin, but they were alot older now, so he didn't really count them anymore. She seemed nice, if a bit strange, but then who was he - a walking, winged snake - to judge the strangeness of others?

His eyes followed her as she stood, narrowing a bit against the brilliant glare of the sun so he could better see her. His posture straightened a bit when she offered her hand to him, not exactly sure what she wanted. Slowly, he rose to his feet on his own, listening absently as she introduced herself and smeared sand across her forehead. His golden eyes flashed at her invitation to join the fish in the water, and his wing feathers fluffed themselves uneasily.

"No, no wadda." He replied quietly, tail curling in the air behind him as he looked passed her and at the waves breaking against the sand. Turning his attention back to her gritty face, he pointed back to the house he had come from without turning to look at it. "You come p'ay? Come p'ay... p'ay..." He screwed his face up a bit for a moment as he thought, face brightening a bit as he found the words and started again, "Come p'ay wit' me? Not hot intide."

Ilistala
Ilistala pouted slightly when Snakeboy declined her offer of going in the water. True, now that the opportunity arose for her to do bigger and better things with her new friend, playing in the ocean with a child made of fire and a child made of scales and feathers seemed like a pretty bad idea.

Hiccuping again, Ilistala suddenly dropped her armload of treasure; the soft thump each shell and claw made against the sand soothed her just a bit. She stooped low to pick through the pile, choosing the shiniest shell and sharpest claw, then returned to her original standing position with a quiet grunt, pulling the front of her bathing suit open and dropping both shell and claw down below.

"Kay," she said after wiggling the gifts into a more comfortable spot: the small of her back. "We go side." She stuck out her hand for Snakeboy to hold, flailing her fingers impatiently if there was a pause from the other end.

"Choklemono," Stala murmured, something her mother would always say when she wanted to hold the Shattered's hand...although Ilistala ended up mangling the real word.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi's lips quirked slightly as she dropped the items she had been holding, tail flicking as he watched her pick through them and choose a claw and a shell to bring along. His lips quirked further when he watched her drop them into her bathing suit, finding the thought of them there slightly gross and extremely uncomfortable.

Stepping over to the things she had dropped, he squatted down and began picking them up one by one; wings unfurling and opening up to help him keep his balance. Once he had everything in his arms, he proceeded to shove the contents into the pockets of his pants; having forgotten he had originally thought the girl was stealing, he would get his mother to put them in something so the girl would be able to carry them easier.

The boy blinked at the hand she offered him, smooth brows arching a bit as his wings nestled in against his back. At first he didn't exactly know what she was offering, but when it dawned on him he frowned; the forked tip of his dark tongue appearing and flicking back and forth in the air. He studied her solemnly, eyes narrowed a touch, "You... ho'd han'?"

His feet stayed rooted to the floor a moment longer, but it was only a second or two before he reluctantly held out his scaled hand. He didn't really like being touched by people he didn't know, but it was apparent that if he didn't willingly give her his hand, she would very likely chase him down and clamp onto it anyway. Lightly curling his fingers around her hand, he started trudging through the sand back to the house.

Ilistala
Ilistala gave a solemn nod when Snakeboy asked his question. It was very important to hold hands all the time, like crossing the street. Or, sometimes, even when you're just browsing along the beach with a new friend. As his hand slid into her own, Stala giggled, squeezing his palm when he closed his grip.

The trip to the beach house couldn't exactly have been a long one, but two toddlers trying to walk through sand? That was sure to take a little bit longer than expected. "Wings is pretty," Stala commented, twisting her spine around to touch said wings with her other free hand. Her fingers twitched over the feathers, marveling over how soft and white they were, unlike her own, which were rough and leathery and dark.

Suddenly, Ilistala halted in her journey to the beach house. She finally seemed to notice the blood speckled all over Snakeboy's wings, which was weird, really, since they were practically drenched in it. "Booboo on them!" Stala whined, jumping in front of Snakeboy and waving her arms. "Booboo! Hurt? Kiss it'n make it feel better?"

The house was close; Ilistala could see it out of the corner of her eye. Perhaps there was a bandaid in there, or maybe a mommy (preferably her own) to, indeed, kiss the booboo and make it feel better.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi's lips stretched into a thin line across his face as the girl clamped onto his hand, his own fingers wriggling slightly before taking up their previous position of lightly holding hers. He squinted against the harsh sun, turning his golden eyes further up the beach to look at his mother's house. He really wanted to get back inside, to where it was shady and cool; he very much hated the sun right now.

He looked to her and blinked as she complimented his wings, unconsciously shifting them on his back. He had never been told his wings were pretty before, and he didn't really know what to say to it, so he intended on just letting it go, that is, until she stopped, and through their linked hands forced him to stop as well.

His slitted eyes widened a bit as she jumped in front of him, her distress being transmitted to him and causing his hood to flare out. He had no idea what she was talking about - he wasn't injured! - and his wariness of her sporadic movements was clear on his mossy-hued face. When he realized she wasn't going to do anything to him, he also realized what she had said (them), and he opened his wings a bit; bi-colored feathers ruffling.

"No... no kiss." He said quietly, still watching her carefully and leaning his upper body away from her a bit. "I not have owie."

Ilistala
No owie? No owie?! This kid's wings were covered in blood! Ignoring Ophi's disapproval of being touched, Stala retreated to behind the snakeboy, gently fingering his wings and awaiting any wails of pain. But, upon further inspection, Ilistala failed to find any open wound at all. She blinked, scratched her head, and toddled back up to Ophi.

"No booboo?" She paused to wipe an arm under her nose, something her mother did alot, then shrugged and beamed a big happy smile. "Kay! Go side now!"

Stealing his hand once more, Ilistala began pumping her legs harder against the thick sand, giggling and screaming nonsense words with each step. She wanted to go inside, most definately, but she also wanted to show ma her new friend.

...speaking of ma, where the heck was she? The toddler cast several searching glances around the strip of beach, failed to find her mother, then simply threw that interest away with a squeeze of her fingers against Ophi's palm. "Close! Close!" she squealed, giggling again.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi flapped his wings once as Stala hurried around him, golden eyes widening a bit as he half-turned to watch what exactly she was planning on doing. The feathers fluffed themselves as she softly toyed with them, but he didn't complain or tell her to stop, he just regarded her silently.

Apparently, she finally realized what he had told her in the first place, and as she grabbed onto his hand once again, he had no choice but to follow after her. He cringed slightly at the high-pitched gibberish she was emanating, wondering why exactly she was doing it. Following her gaze back and forth along the beach, it seemed like she was looking for something, but whatever it was must not have been that important.

As they neared the deck, the boy led Stala around it to the side where the staircase resided, tail curling as he looked back at her and pointed up at the deck. Starting up the stairs, which were much harder to go up than down, he frowned slightly and grasped the railing with his free hand as they slowly climbed. "I not 'upposed to be outtide, Mama intide an' 'upposed to come out wit' me."

Ilistala
Ilistala quietly followed Ophi up the stairs, huffing and puffing like the wolf against the three little piggie's brick house. Jeeze, this up-the-stairs business sure was tiring! Around the second or third step, Stala paused to catch her breath and wipe a film of sweat, brought on by the hot sun and exertion of going up the stairs, off her forehead.

"Jooce side?" the Shattered toddler asked (which obviously meant 'do you have any juice inside?') once she began the journey again. Her throat was quite parched, and the seawater didn't exactly look...refreshing.

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi climbed up to the last step and paused in front of the gate, breathing a bit more heavily and feeling slightly hotter (which made it worse), but otherwise unaffected by the climb. He climbed staircases numerous times on a daily basis, after all, he was used to such exercises. Turning, his smooth brow furrowed a bit as Stala asked her question; having no clue what she had just asked of him.

"Come on." He said, opting to ignore her question. Turning back around, he put both hands on the gate and pushed it open, not even waiting for it to stop moving before he slid passed and hurried back to the open glass door. Assuming that Stala was following him, he slipped through the crack and huffed loudly; pleased to find the house exceptionally cool compared to outside.

Looking back out through the glass, he stuck his head through the opened and narrowed his golden eyes; wings fidgeting. "Come on, it not hot intide."

Ilistala
And again still, after Ophi had hurried through the gate and slithered through the glass doors (although she would fail to see the irony in that moment), Ilistala followed the snakeboy across the deck and, finally, into the cool house. She breathed a sigh of relief after she, too, was inside and appreciating the much more comfortable temperature.

Taking his hand one more time, Stala would lead the boy further into the house, acting as if she was the one who lived there, not Ophi. "Hellooooo?" she called, her voice loud and just a bit harsh on her ears. "Helloooo, anyone home? Stala here!"

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi's wings started as Stala grabbed his hand again, his arm instinctively lifting and pulling away from her a little, but he knew she wouldn't let go unless he actually yanked his hand from her, which he didn't feel like doing. He silently followed her, finding her leading him in his own house not at all strange, and he looked around the large living room the sliding door opened into.

"Mama? Ah you here?" He called, not nearly as loud as Stala, though the girl wouldn't know about his mother’s sensitive hearing, thus they didn't need to yell. His tail coiled in the air behind him as he heard bare feet padding softly against the wooden flooring of the hall, a small smile curving his mossy-hued lips.

"Who the hell..." Rhia trailed off as she stepped from the hall into the living room, pale eyes landing on Ophi and the child at his side. A slender brow arched above her sunglasses and she cocked one of her hips to the side, placing a hand against it. "Aren't you a little young to be bringing home girls?"

"Mama." Ophi said, golden eyes sparkling happily. He turned to the girl at his side and paused for a moment, "Dis... uhh... dis Tala."

"That's very nice." Rhia glanced behind the toddlers, noting the open glass door and shaking her head a little, brushing aside a curl of two-tone hair. "You know you're not supposed to go outside by yourself, and now you're off kidnapping other children?"

"We hab... hells." He said softly, as if bringing the seashells along explained and dismissed everything else. His happy expression falling slightly, he glanced over to Stala for a moment before looking back up at Rhia.

"Come on," She sighed, gently scratching her scalp just below one of her curved horns. Not bothering to put on a pair of shoes - or anything else besides the hot pants-like jean shorts and tight, black tank top - she walked passed them and over to the sliding door; pulling it open farther and stepping out onto the deck. She turned and motioned for the two to follow her, the gesture a bit impatient, "We need to find whoever she came here with so we can give her back. I sure as ******** hell am not gonna keep another one."

Ilistala
Normally a chattery, loud thing, Ilistala was silenced once Snakeboy's momma entered stage left. Her massive wings and pierced tail stole her attention at first, but her pretty red hair truly sealed the deal. Smacking her lips, she followed the older woman out of the house and back onto the deck, whining once the sunshine hit her hot skin.

"Boobies," the toddler commented idly, jabbing a chubby finger at Rhia's chest. Her mother's breasts weren't quite as...interesting...as Snakeboy's momma, so this automatically meant Snakeboy's momma was better that her momma. Lame! "Ma smaller than you," she added, nodding and nibbling on a fingernail.

As if on cue, Ioyla's voice, loud even over the crashing waves, could be heard--distant but still clear. "HEY. STALA. HEEEEY STALA!"

Ilistala immediately brightened and began jumping up and down on the deck, ecstatic to show her mom her new friend and his better mom. "MAAAAA I HEEEERE!"

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia stretched one wing out a little as the toddlers ambled onto the deck; the large shadow it cast falling over both Ophi and his new friend to keep them sheltered from the harsh sun. At Stala's comment, Rhia glanced down at the child and arched a slender brow, her expression causing Ophi to giggle softly, a scaled hand placed over his mouth.

"I'm bigger than most people, ma'pe l'et ." Rhia smirked and idly tugged on one of her top's straps, having no shame whatsoever when it came to her exceptionally large chest.

Ophi reached up and gently ran his fingers over a smooth, black feather in his mother's wing, causing her tail to twitch in the air a little. As her long ears perked a little at the voice calling, the boy left the moderate comfort of shade and went over to the deck's wooden railing; peeking out between two boards at the beach.

"Looks like we won't be needing to wander around aimlessly, after all." Rhia leaned her backside against the railing of the deck, pulling a cigarette from the back pocket of her shorts (which looked like the only thing that would ever fit besides a credit card) and stuck it between her dark lips. Touching her index finger to the end, there was a brief spark before she inhaled deeply, having lit it with a simple touch. "You guys just wait here until she comes, okay? It's too hot to go traipsing through the sand."

Ophi turned away from the beach and looked over to his mother just as she stretched her enormous wings out behind her and flapped them once; fluffing the feathers a little before she loosely folded them in against her back. Looking to Stala, he made a small motion with his hand for her to come over here, his own wings imitating his mother's. "Yo mama out dere, yah?"

Ilistala
Ioyla's small form perked up once she heard Ilistala's returning call. Shrieking something inaudible, the young demon began the trek to Rhia's deck. Her out-of-shape huffing and puffing could be heard for miles around.

Meanwhile, Ilistala obiediently followed Ophi beneath the welcome shade of Rhia's wings. Once there, she nodded to the boy's question and giggled at the woman's strange words. "My momma, mapey let!" she said, imitating Rhia's language and failing miserably.

And then, Ioyla, her cheeks flushed and her chest heaving, arrived and nearly collapsed. "Do...you...have...my kid...?" she wheezed, crawling halfway up the stairs and stopping to catch her breath. Jeeze, man... it was only a ten minute run in the sand!

Rhiannon Everwind
Ophi looked over to Stala and smiled as she tried to copy Rhia; the other child doing just as good a job as when Ophi himself tried to copy his mother's tongue. He looked over to see Ioyla trudging through the sand, looking extremely out of breath and miserable, and pointed a chubby finger at her, "Yo mama coming."

Rhia grinned at the shape Ioyla was in by the time she made it halfway up the stairs, taking the cigarette from her mouth and touching the tip of one fang with her tongue. She exhaled smoke out through her nose and mouth, giving Ioyla a rather distasteful once-over, "I have a kid; she seems to have followed mine home."

Ilistala
Having finally gotten over her exhaustion, Ioyla stood, her hands planted on her hips. Her jaw was jutting defiantely in all of her bikini bottom and too-big t-shirt glory, as if trying to one-up the pretty demonwoman in her shortshorts and bathing suit top. She finished the stairs and poked her head around, searching for Stala. "Yes, well," Ioyla murmured, quite uncomfortable around Rhia and her gigantic tits, "k'I've mines back? I got sunburned'n I wanna g'home." Dork.

Ilistala perked when she heard her mother's voice. Squeeking and taking Ophi's hand, she led her new friend to her mother, proudly displaying him like a new toy. "Ma, lookit! Snakeboy~. Lookit pretty wings, kay?" She raced to Ophi's back and forcefully turned him around, her face now in his and her arms tapping the boy's feathery wings. "So soft!"

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia leaned against the wooden railing, silent for a moment, blowing smoke out her mouth in a swift burst as she eyed Ioyla behind black lenses. She almost didn't understand a word the other woman had said - what the hell kind of ******** up accent was that anyhow? - and a small sneer of distaste twisted her full lips, tail flicking in the air and gently slapping against her tan, muscled thigh.

She didn't have to answer, however, as Stala quite literally dragged Ophi towards the other woman. The boy looked slightly flabbergasted as she proceeded to whirl him around and poke at his wings. They stretched out as she did so and flapped a few times, a red-streaked feather loosing itself and see-sawing to the wooden deck.

His hood spread outwards as he whirled back around, not liking to be treated that way, and not liking the fact that he was forced to show his back to someone he didn't know. Tail coiling in the air and wings fanned out, his mouth yawned open for a moment and he hissed loudly; slitted eyes glinting as his fangs flexed themselves.

Rhia let out a soft, cruel laugh, large fangs flashing in the sunlight as she grinned. One arm crossing underneath her breasts, she flicked her head to the side to get a single, red-and-gold curl out from in front of her eyes, "That's my boy."

Ophi blinked, hood relaxing itself and wings dropping a little as he looked at Stala and her mother. It hadn't been nice of him to do that, he knew it, even if his mother seemed to be proud of him for it, and though he had just met her, he didn't really want Stala's mother to take her and leave just yet.

"Don'... do dat." He said quietly, a hand coming up to his mouth as he gently touched one of his fangs, now retracted, with his forefinger.

Ilistala
The silence that extended between both mothers was awkward, to say the least. As she was scrutinized and mentally ridiculed, Ioyla took the time to twiddle her thumbs and roll her eyes skyward, bounce on the heels of her feet and whistle a nameless tune. Her face hardly twitched when smoke was blown into her face, instead fruitlessly patting her pocketless shirt for her own box of cigarettes.

However, when Ophi damn near attacked Ilistala, Ioyla squeaked and lunged forward to snatch her child out of harm's way. But her fingers ended up grabbing nothing but air, as Stala giggled at the funny hiss noise and tried making her own, baring her own toddler choppers and stubby fingernails.

"I sorry," she apologized at Ophi's request, opening her mouth as well and poking her teeth. Darn! Nothing quite as sharp as his fangs! No fair.

Ioyla, understandably weirded out by the two children, straightend her back and placed a motherly hand on Ilistala's shoulder. Turning to Rhia, she said, "I'm Ioyla and this is Stala. So uh...did she do anythin bad? Like, um, set somethin on fire? I sure hope not, though, cause I don' think I could pay f'r it. And um. ...stuff." Way to go, mom.

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia felt no awkwardness in the silence between the two, and if Ioyla did feel any, the redhead didn't give a damn. She was used to people feeling uneasy around her, and they should, she wasn't going to take any bullshit they might try on her, and she wasn't afraid to teach that in a painful lesson if they tried anyhow. She watched the other woman through disinterested, pale eyes as she shuffled about, seemingly unable to stand still for a moment, like an impatient child.

Upon Ioyla's reaction to Ophi's small outburst, her lurching for Stala, Rhia cast her cigarette into the sand just off the deck, movements swift and precise as she stepped over to the boy and stopped just behind him; eyes flashing down at the other two from behind her sunglasses. Her enormous, bi-colored wings spread out to either side; dwarfing the four that stood on deck and casting nearly the entire structure into shadows. Dark lips set into a grim line, her long ears flicked lightly as she stood ready, feet apart and hands formed into fists at her sides; black, curved nails biting into the skin of her palms, though not enough to draw blood.

"I'm Rhiannon, and this is my son, Ophiuchus." She said, the normally velvety tones of her voice a bit harsh and clipped. Being six feet tall in height, the demoness had no trouble lording over the other woman in a warning manner, shoulders squared and back rigid. "The child did nothing destructive that I'm aware of, at least not to my home or to my family."

Ophi stood in front of his mother, looking back at her with a slightly fearful expression. He could feel her power prickling along his skin, the darkening of her aura casting an uneasy feeling in his stomach. He knew she was just looking out for him, but he had seen her this way once before, and he knew it was a very, very bad thing.

His wings tucked themselves in as close to his body as they could, tail falling still behind him and hood pulling itself in as far as it would go, head tilting forward a little as he gazed at her; a purely instinctual gesture that meant he bowed to his mother's superior strength and would not go against anything she did or said.

Ilistala
Not one to be quite so easily intimidated, once Rhia was in front of Ioyla, flapping her wings and being a superbitch, the younger demon placed her other hand on Stala's shoulder, gripping them both tightly, turning her knuckles white and elicting a small squeal of pain from Ilistala. She tilted her head upwards for eye-contact, frowning.

"Good," she concluded in a voice just as clipped and business-like as Rhiannon. Nodding briskly, Ioyla bent and scooped Ilistala up into her arms, cradling her. "Well, it was nice t'meetcha, Rhiannon." Put-off by Rhia's attitude, Ioyla turned to leave, hoisting Stala over her shoulder.

But wait! No! Ilistala wasn't ready to leave yet! She kicked and squirmed in her mother's arms, but Ioyla would continue treading down the small stairs and across the sand. Just before she was truly out of contact with her new friend, Stala opened her mouth wide and howled, "BYE OFIE I LIKE YOU SEE YOU GAIN SOON KAY!"

And then they were gone. Probably a good thing, too; a war was likely to erupt if Ioyla was around any longer.

Rhiannon Everwind
Rhia watched them through glowing, narrowed eyes as Ioyla gripped Stala's shoulders; a small smirk playing across her face. If the young demon was foolish enough to start something, the redhead would be more than happy to sat Ophi aside and oblige the other with more than a standoff.

"Yes, I'm sure it was." She murmured flatly, watching the child be picked up and carried away. Her wings moved in the air for a moment, curly hair being pushed forward over her ample chest in the soft wind they created, before they finally folded in and settled back against her body.

"Bye, 'Tala!" Ophi called after the pair, raising a small hand and giving the girl a quick wave. Turning, he looked back up at his mother and frowned a little, knowing she had scared them away.

"Don't give me that look. You ******** drag home someone else's kid and expect me and the b***h that spawned her to get along?" Rhia bent over a little and held out her hand for Ophi to grasp. As he took hold of one of her fingers, he glanced over as the gate swung closed after his new friend and 'the b***h that spawned her', before he and Rhia walked back into the house and out of the heat.

Events took place on June 18th.
A SMALL NOTE
Yes, I drew the image. Yes, it was specifically for this RP. No, you cannot use the image for anything. No, I will not draw one for you. Yes, it's quite ******** up, you do not need to point it out.

"Here, Ophi, try this one." Chey leaned forward a bit and gently stuck the purple tulip's stem into the collar of his shirt, fiddling with it a bit before it would stay, albeit clumsily. She pursed her lips a moment, hands poised near the tulip in case it should fall, but she smiled and straightened up when it appeared to stay. "There you go! That one looks much better on you."

"Yeah?" Ophi asked, tucking his chin down and crossing his eyes a bit, trying to see the flower.

"Yeah." The blonde slipped a large, white rose behind one of her long ears; twisting a strand of hair around it to make sure it stayed. "There we go, now I've got one too."

The two children smiled at each other before Ophi bent his head and started rearranging the few flowers he had in front of him, stealing another yellow daisy from the demon girl. She didn't seem to mind much, but she did squint one crimson eye at him and issue a soft laugh. "Hey! That's enough, you, leave some for the press."

She took the last daisy and set it onto a few layers of paper towels, folding them over it and gently sandwiching the flower in between a few layers of cardboard. That done, she slid the cardboard between two flat, plastic squares; each of their four corners fit with a long screw and a nut on the end. She pushed the top down as far as she could and then proceeded to twist the nuts, alternating between the four every couple turns so the sides remained even, until the plastic was literally smashing the cardboard.

Setting it aside with a stack of other, identical flower presses, she turned back to Ophi, who was in the process of lining up his flowers. "There, that's done. Now, shall we go pick some more for the bouquet?"

"Okay." Ophi picked up his flowers and handed them to Chey, not realizing their stems were too short for a proper bouquet.

"Why don't you just keep those ones?" Chey giggled softly, ears twitching as she turned to find her brother standing in the doorway, arms crossed and golden eyes narrowed slightly.

"What are you doing?"

Chey stood up only to sit down at one of the chairs at the kitchen table, arching her brows at her brother. "We're gonna go pick a bouquet for Ma'man." She turned from Lin to Ophi, giving the toddler a shooing gesture. "Go get your shoes so we can go."

"I doubt she'd appreciate a bouquet," He murmured idly, tail curling in the air behind him as he leaned against the doorjamb. "Today least of all days."

"That's why we're getting her a bouquet, Lin." Chey rolled her eyes, wishing Ophi would hurry up so she didn't have to listen to her twin for much longer; he was even grumpier than usual. "It'll cheer her up."

"No, it won't." He laughed, the sound a bit cruel, and he gave his younger sister a small sneer. "Do you have any idea what today is, or are you that clueless?"

"It's Sunday." She said, but frowned as Lin sighed.

"It's Father's Day, stupid." He nodded his head once as Chey's lips formed a small 'o', a familiar sadness entering her bright eyes. "See? You can't cheer her up, no one can cheer her up."

"I bet I know who could." She whispered softly, ears drooping as she folded her hands in her lap.

"Well, if you haven't noticed, he's not here." Lin's voice turned bitter, golden eyes flashing. "He's never been here, and he never will be here. So just do Ma'man a favor and leave her alone."

Just then Ophi padded back into the kitchen, tennis shoes in hand, and hurried over to Chey; handing her his shoes and crawling into her lap. She leaned back a little until he was situated, then silently put his shoes on, lips pressed together and smooth brow creased. Once they were tied, he slid off her lap and turned to her, wings ruffling, "We go now?"

"Yeah, Ophi, we'll go now, but not to the field." She stood, holding her hand out for him to take. When he took it, she glared at her brother, crimson eyes not teary, yet they were glossier than normal. "You're... you're just an idiot! I bet if we found him he'd come back, I bet he didn't want to leave, there had to have been a good reason. I bet... I bet he still loves Ma'man, and I bet her could learn to love us too!"

"You're the idiot!" Lin snapped, voice rising and wings flapping once. They been through this before, but Chey was so unlike him and Rhia, so trusting and naive, so willing to hope when obviously there was none to be had. "He left and he's not coming back! He doesn't care about any of us, get that through your head!"

"You're wrong!" Chey shouted and squeezed her eyes shut, putting her free hand to her temple and bringing her wings forward to encircle her and Ophi, who was bewildered and more than a little scared. Lin's hooded eyes widened a little as he realized what his sister was doing, and as he lunged forward, he grasped her wrist just in time; all three of the children's forms darkening for a split second before they disappeared altogether.

Opening their eyes at the same time, Lin and Chey looked at each for a moment before Lin growled and bared his fangs, annoyed beyond comprehension. "What the hell, Chey?"

"I'm sorry, Lin, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to!" Chey winced at her brother's anger, gently pulling Ophi to her side and glancing around. It would be easy enough for her to teleport them back, but now that they were here, they might as well get a look at their surroundings before returning home, right?

Upon a brief inspection, they appeared to have been brought to a town, though which one neither of the twins could tell. They were standing off to one side of a street, Lin's back to a small, dead-end street. It wasn't really a street, not even an alleyway; it was just a small space that led to a red-brick building, the entrance door set in a little.

"...Why here?" Lin asked his sister, slitted eyes turning to hers as he put his hands on his hips.

"I... I'm not sure, something..." She trailed off as she stared at the building - an apartment perhaps? - for what seemed like a very long time; long ears straining forward a bit and black tail coiled in the air, not moving. She sensed something about the building, something strong, familiar, something she felt she was a part of...

Her blood hued eyes widened a split second later and she gasped softly, almost like a light bulb had gone off in her mind, and in a way one had. It wasn't the building, it was something inside the building, a someone to be exact, and somehow she knew.

"Fa'san?" She breathed quietly, releasing Ophi's hand.

"What?" Lin eyed his sister suspiciously, as if he thought she were insane, which sometimes he did. He reached out and caught hold of her bicep as she took a step towards the space between the two buildings, towards the red bricked wall. "What are doing? We need to get home. Now."

"No, let me go, don't you see? I can fix it." Chey's young face lit up with a smile and she shook her arm free of Lin's grasp, turning and hurrying for the building. "He's here, I know he's here. I can fix it!"

"Chey, wait." Lin reached over and took Ophi's hand, following after his sister. The toddler looked from boy twin to girl twin, completely confused as to what had happened and why they were here. Surely Mama would come and get them soon, so he didn't have anything to worry about, right?

"He's here," She repeated softly, more to herself than her twin brother or adoptive brother. "He's here."

"Chey, wait, listen to me." Lin again caught her arm, this time when they were only a few yards away from the building. He let Ophi go for a moment, coiling his tail around the child's wrist to keep him from wandering, and turned his sister towards him; grasping her other arm with his other hand. He gave her a rough shake, golden eyes flashing, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Lin, stop!" Chey struggled against his grip for a moment before wincing as he simply tightened it. She stopped trying to get away, slitted eyes stealing a glance at the building that was so close, of the person within that she had spent her entire life wondering about and wishing to meet. "Why won't you let me do this? Why won't you let me-"

"Because," He cut her off before she could finish, again giving her a shake, "You don't need this, no one needs this. Why can't you ever see that? It'll only make things worse."

"But Lin, I-"

"You'll only end up getting hurt!"

"He's our father!" She shouted at him, tears welling up in her round eyes as she looked at her twin. "We at least deserve to see him, we're alive because of him, not just Ma'man. He should know us because we're his, we should get to know what happened, why he left, we should know!"

"No!" Lin shouted back, shaking her so hard her head snapped back and she let out a soft cry. He blinked a few times, wings unfurling for a moment. "I... don't want to know, Chey." His voice softened, a hint of pain biting the edges as he loosened his grip. "I don't want to know, and deep down, neither do you... it'll only hurt us, hurt Ma'man."

"But... we're his children..." She whispered, a single tear slipping down one cheek. She went almost completely limp in her brother's arms and he let her go, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder as she sank to her knees for a moment. "I... I don't understand..."

"It doesn't matter, and even if it once did, it's been too long now." Lin knelt down next to his sister, reaching over and grasping Ophi's hand with his free one. He gave the toddler a reassuring smile, knowing that it must be so confusing for the poor boy. Someday, when he was older, maybe he'd understand.

"It's... it's not fair, I want her to be happy." Chey rubbed her cheek with the back of her hand, wiping away the glistening trail the tear had left behind. "I want us to be a family... I've always wanted us to be a family."

"It would be nice if it was that way, but we both know it won't ever be." He gently rubbed her shoulder, tilting his head so he could see her face. "Think about it, if he really cared, would he have left? If he really wanted us, don't you think he would have tried to contact us? It's been a year, and he could have talked to Ma'man even before we were born. If he really loved her, loved us, if he had wanted to stay... he would have stayed."

"Yes, but... why?" Slowly, Chey rose to her feet, eyes still teary as she stepped up to the door of the building. Lin let her go, knowing that she was no longer going to ring the bell and try and "fix things". He stood up, holding Ophi at his side and waiting for his sister to do whatever she needed to finally be rid of the demon that had plagued her for so long.

Chey stood in front of the door for what seemed like an eternity, staring at its wooden surface, wishing she could see within. She was so close to him, so close, and yet... still he was unreachable. His aura felt so much like Lin's, only stronger, older... it almost hurt to be this close and not be able to simply go to him.

"I wish I knew why..." She whispered softly, closing her eyes for a moment as she reached up and placed her palm against the door, wishing that somehow, he could hear her as she spoke to him, see her as her tears spilled down her cheeks. "I wish I knew why you didn't love me, daddy."

Opening her eyes, she knelt down for a moment, reaching up and gently pulling the white rose from behind her ear. She twirled it in her hand for a moment, the corners of her lips quirking in a sad, helpless smile, and then she gently kissed one of the smooth petals, a gesture that seemed beyond her youth.

Setting the rose down onto the doorstep, her fingers lingered on the stem for a moment longer before she pulled her hand away; placing it against her mouth as she turned around. Standing, she hurried back over to Ophi and Lin, throwing her trembling arms around her brother's neck and hugging him tightly; face burying itself in the crook of his neck and shoulder. Lin was surprised for a moment, wings opening a little, before his face softened and he slid one of his arms around his sister, returning the embrace lightly.

They stood that way for a moment or two, Chey clinging to Lin as he held her with one arm, down-turned ears swept back a little, his other hand holding onto Ophi's. The snake child gently hugged one of Chey's leg, knowing she was upset and not knowing what to do to make her happy again, not even able to fully grasp what had made her upset in the first place. He just hoped that she was strong enough to teleport them back very soon, because he didn't like the feeling this place gave him, and he certainly didn't like how it made Chey and Lin feel.

Rhiannon could never forget what had happened with the red-haired demon, and she never wanted to, but perhaps his daughter had taken the first steps towards a life without his shadow haunting her every thought.
