"Very sweet, very shy lionness. She's gone now." The golden back ears flicked back and he looked away a moment. The tone of voice suggested that by gone he meant dead - or suspected as such. Muroki had loved her dearly and she was the one thing he'd been trying not to think about. He still didn't know where she'd ended up.
"...after all this talk, I'm parched. If you'd like I could show you the nearest freshwater hole? It's a common place pleasantry but maybe it'll do us both some good." His tongue was dry and besides, it was a distraction from missing the gold female so openly.

Even though his reaction was short, she saw the sadness and immediately felt bad about it. Had her outershell been perfectly fine and her cynicalism in tact, she might have scoffed. Shouldn't have pried. Just because he mentioned it, didn't make it safe to talk about it. She should have known that. But her mom hadn't been very good at teaching her communication skills, much less any other skill than those necessary for survive ....by forcing her to teach herself. She'd go with the flow, move on and pretend the lioness had never been mentioned at all. "Waterhole sounds great actually. Didn't realize there was one around here, although with all the vegetation, I shoud've guessed."

"Oh waterholes are plentiful enough and a rogue like yourself" - it was said like a compliment and he considered it to be, it took alot to survive alone - "will know which are too stagnant of course. But most are pretty off, with the freshest ones a bit out of the way."
With that he lead the way through the undergrowth to find one of the better places to drink. He'd broke his own shell, mentioning Hisani. Still. It had been a good walk with an interesting meeting.
