Donovinhs Knight Please tell me its not actually called a "snood" whee Snood is a very old word for a hair covering of this type. Snog is a very modern word. When I first heard the word 'snog' I assumed it must be some kind of knitted or crocheted garment!

When I first heard the word 'snog' I assumed it must be some kind of knitted or crocheted garment! So, snoods kind of remind me of berets, so can I wear a beret if I want to? I have like 4096 berets, so I'd help a lot. However, I asked for some tiechels for my birthday because they're pretty and colorful. I'm freaking excited too!

I wear berets when I go to synagogue, but I normally don't cover -- I could see the benefits of doing so, though. Oh, and it's hard to get all of your hair into a beret (the felt kinds anyway). I don't bother covering my hair.

Personal opinion here... Bi'ezras Hashem, when I'll be a husband, I know I would like my wife to cover her hair in public. I don't want people gazing at her, so hiding her hair gives them less of a reason to gaze. It's part of tzniuis. It's not because I'm all overprotective and want to lord over my wife. It's because I love my wife very much, and... errr.. many men find a woman's hair... Attractive ninja Not saying more .
I feel covering her hair shouldn't isolate her from the world in any way... On the contrary, it probably makes things easier... Because when your ring isn't visible, it's also a way of saying "Excuse me young man who would otherwise try to hit on me, I'm married" 3nodding .

That's an interesting way to think about it, but I also wonder about this from my perspective of a female. Is there something males have to wear or something that shows they are married/off limits? sweatdrop

Hehe lookey lookey. Coming from an HBS, I say that with the least amount of ego possible, I think covering my hair is probably a good idea when I am indeed married. It will probably keep me from flirting back. It's a diease. redface

I've been covering my hair for about three years now, and my bashert recently asked me to cover it differently -- by letting SOME hair show, as long as it's less than a tefach (about 4", or a hand-width). Apparently, my bashert likes to show me off. I have to admit, I'm not entirely comfortable with that. I've gotten used to covering my hair like royalty, to advertise to the world that I'm most assuredly not available for gazing and speculating upon. But I'm going to try to let a little of my hair show out from under my scarf, when my bashert and I are out together. When I'm alone, though, I know I'll still cover fully, for my own comfort and safety. I don't want my hair to be an enticement when my bashert isn't by my side.

Your bashert is very lucky to have someone as modest as you 3nodding . I'm sure you will raise a very pure and spiritual household. G-d will bless you for your modesty 3nodding .

If only more females in today's society were more modest. It can be quite scary around whre I live sometimes. stare

Yeah. It's not scary around here, but I take pride in knowing my T-Bar isn't showing/my butt isn't hanging out of my skirt.
I like bright colors though, so my makeup contradicts the modesty though.
I'm halfway there though...

Thank you, Nathan. From your lips to G*D's ears!
I've been looking for ways to show my youth more in my attire. There are many ways of being modest while not looking frumpy, so I'm looking into several. Mostly I'm looking for shirts that have long sleeves, to pair under concert T-shirts or other shirts with funky prints or designs, that kind of thing. Also, hats with a bit of coolness or funk to them.
