"They'd actually build a fence under ground?" Gaius scowled, his wind taken out now that he actually had to think about the difficulties of the plan. Obstacles always got in the way! "Yeah, I guess they would... Probably too hard to dig under its foundation. Too deep."
He followed Seth's finger down the beach, spotting the small building for the first time. His ear twitched with a hint of annoyance as Seth joked about the gullible man, feeling a note of sympathy for someone who shared one of his own flaws, but... if he was on the side of the labs... He disliked doing it, but that might be enough to justify using him. It wasn't like they were doing him any harm, after all.
"Wire-cutters, huh? Well, I might not be able to talk to that guy - I'm not very good at smooth talking, honestly... But, I was just thinking... the theater could really use a nice lighting system, maybe some things hung up above for spot lights, you know?" He gave Seth a conspiratorial wink and grinned broadly, showing off his sizable incisors. "If I ask Sabin, act like I've turned over a new leaf... We might get them to help with our attack against them!"

"I wouldn't put it past the bastards to put part of their fence underground to protect against burrowing animals or something like that." He shrugged. "But if we could cut through the section of it when we encounter it while digging the tunnel, it wouldn't pose a problem."
Seth listened carefully as Gaius talked about his ideas for the theater. The grin crept back onto his maw as he watched the man wink, and he chuckled, rubbing his paws together. He felt very pleased that he had mentioned his plans to Gaius now.
"Oh now, that's a bloody brilliant idea!" He said happily. "And yeah, you're probably in more of a position to ask for stuff like that because you're in charge of building the theater. You have an existing need for wire cutters while if I requested something like that for a statue it'd just sound ridiculous and random. It'd make 'em suspicious for sure. Still, the tunnel plan needs a cover - I can still ask them for concrete or whatever."
"I hope it works out for you." Seth nodded at him. "And that you don't get busted for it. Because I doubt they'd treat us very nicely if we failed."

"We'll just have to make sure we don't fail, then!" Gaius said with a suddenly serious expression.
Vixen, who'd lost interest in the conversation after a couple minutes, was around on the other side of the rocks, hunting the little crabs that scurried about in the shallow water and rocks. Gaius cast a glance her way, then back at the beach. "We should probably move soon. Even if they can't see or hear us well, who knows if they start getting suspicious."
"Just... one thing I'm wondering," Gaius said, turning back to Seth. "Where are we going to dig? And... how are we going to avoid the cameras? They're sure to see anyone making a big hole near the complex, aren't they?"

"No," Seth shook his head. "Failure would be bad. They'd probably kill us or torture us via animal testing. Or do something equally as nasty as that." He rose to his feet and nodded. "We can start walking along the beach if you think that'd make them less suspicious. Though, I don't know if there are cameras along the beach."
"Hmm," He looked thoughtful at Gaius's question. "We could easily begin digging in my territory and cover the hole up with sticks, palm leaves, and then leaf litter covering that so it'd look like the rest of the ground. I've been hunting out the cameras for some time in my territory anyway. If the cameras can be found, they can be smashed out. Starting out that far away means we'd need to dig a long tunnel though... maybe stretching out 100-200 meters underground. It'd literally take months to dig out." He didn't seem pleased with the prospect of that idea. "I can look for a viable starting point on the west side of the island and we can move in from there if you like. However, it's easier to hide a hole in scrub or jungle."
He hopped down off his rock and stood in the sea water once more. "Yuck..." He grumbled as he walked through the water, heading back towards the main area of the beach. "Does this all sound good to you so far?"

"We can walk slow. Hopefully they won't notice us then."
Gaius let out a low whistle as Seth gave the estimates and grimaced. "Meters? Damn, even if we had shifts of islanders digging all hours of the day... But the closer we are, the riskier it is. Still, any time we can shave off would be worth it. Who knows how long some of us have, anyways?" He waved one of his hands, showing off the stubby fingers, and scowled. "Besides that, if there's any way to stop them from bringing more innocents to the island..."
He trailed off, and the pegasus walked with Seth a ways in silence, not even flinching when Vixen bounded up beside him, driftwood branch in her mouth, and splashed them both with sea water. He was deep in thought, rolling over the problems and what all needed to get done, as well as the risk he'd be taking. It was worth it, he had no doubt about that.
"Yeah," he finally spoke up, lifting his head. "Yeah, it sounds good. We could use some more loyal people, though... Ones we can trust. But now's the time to start."

"Now's as good as any time to start," Seth nodded in response, keeping his stiff tail raised so that it wouldn't get wet. "We're not about to get any better looking any time soon." He sighed. "And yeah, some are too far gone as is. I would definitely say that about both of us now."
He glanced down at Gaius's dog, curious as he watched her for a few moments. "I didn't know we were allowed to have pets. I'm more of a cat person myself, but I don't think I'd keep one now. I'd be afraid I'd attack it one day."
He headed away from the rocks, wading slowly through the water. It swirled around his legs as the motion of the waves brought the level of water in and back out again.
"I'll spend the next few days looking for viable starting digging spots if you want. Maybe we could find somebody who's good at picking out where the cameras are and taking them out. In any case, I reckon we need to get at least ten feet down before starting a tunnel. Any higher and somebody could disturb the soil above and cause a cave in."
"I don't know that many people I can trust though," Seth frowned in thought. "I told Richard about escaping, but he didn't seem too pleased about hearing it. Liamh would be interested, I know that one. So would Maryke, but I haven't seen her in a really long time. I suppose I'll have to go meet more people and ask for their opinion. I reckon if we asked around, we'd find a good lot of people wanting to get out of here."

The horse-man remained silent as Seth commented about Vixen. While he would prefer to be honest, after this talk with Seth, he doubted whether the man would take the fact that she was a gift from the labs very well. There just wasn't any way in Gaius's mind to make the thylacine understand his need for her companionship, even if she was lab-tainted.
"I think I know some people we can bring in on this... maybe a couple workers from the theater project. And I'll keep an eye out for anyone who looks promising. But don't worry! I promise I won't leak anything without being totally sure!"
Once the two were on the dry sand, Gaius took Vixen leash and began heading down the bank a bit. "We should probably split up now - keep them from wondering much. But remember, if you need me, I'm over in duplex #62!"

"Thanks, mate." Seth nodded, seeming genuinely appreciative. "I'll keep a look out too for people who would want to help out. When I find our starting point, I'll be sure to let you know."
"Duplex 62? Thanks I'll remember that," He called back to Gaius. "I'm in #65, I'm practically your neighbour. See ya around, ey?" He raised a paw as if to say goodbye, and headed back off towards the edge of the jungle, heading back into his territory paths.
This had gone much better than he expected, and the Thylacine man felt extremely pleased and hopeful after the meeting was over. Things would be getting very interesting here over the next few weeks.
Very interesting indeed.
