Sephiroth_God its turning in to what it used to be guys. Stop. Anyways Seph is totally awsome and y does he think jenova is his mother? Sephy thought JENOVA was his mother because he had been told by someone in Shin-Ra -- probably Hojo or Gast -- that his mother's name had been JENOVA: Quote: Sephiroth "It's your first time back to your hometown in a long time, right?" "So how does it feel?" "I wouldn't know because I don't have a hometown..." Cloud (offscreen) "Umm.... how 'bout your parents?" Sephiroth "My mother is Jenova. She died right after she gave birth to me. My father..." (He laughs.) Sephiroth "What does it matter...?" "All right, let's go." Quote: Cloud enters the bedroom. He passes through a secret door in the fireplace, down a long spiral staircase, and through a dark cave. He reaches a secret library, where Sephiroth paces back and forth, absorbed in a book.) Sephiroth "....an organism that was apparently dead, was found in a 2000 year old geological stratum." "Professor Gast named that organism, Jenova..." (The camera pans up.) Sephiroth "X Year, X Month, X Day. Jenova confirmed to be an Ancient..." "X Year, X Month, X Day. Jenova Project approved. The use of Mako Reactor 1 approved for use..." (Sephiroth walks down a narrow hallway lined with books. He stops and looks upwards.) Sephiroth "My mother's name is Jenova... Jenova Project... Is this just a coincedence?" (He looks downward.) Sephiroth "Professor Gast... Why didn't you tell me anything? ...Why did you die?" He obviously had been told that by someone, as he wouldn't have gotten the idea on his own. I'm assuming that he was told "Jenova was your mother" either because his developing body had melded with JENOVA's Cells while his body was still a fetus, or because this occurred as part of the JENOVA Project.

+ I doubt Vincent is Sephiroths father. /: It just doesn't seem right..and I've played the game quite a few times. I'm sticking to Hojo being the father. +

Quoting myself from many, many other Threads on this matter: Squall of SeeD We know, of course, that Vincent was in love with Lucrecia, however, it is not suggested that those feelings were reciprocated, or that there was even a sexual relationship between them at all. From what we are shown in Vincent's flashback, that Lucrecia loved Hojo is clear -- such as when she rejects Vincent's declaration of love and is seen kissing Hojo a moment later -- and Vincent resigns himself to that fact, saying "If she is happy then... I don't mind," but we're never given any indication either by Lucrecia's actions then or her words in the present that she loved Vincent. In fact, when seeing her in the present, she makes no indication that she feels any such affection toward Vincent, her concern being solely for Sephiroth. It should also be noted that this flashback first becomes available on Disc 2, after gaining control of the Shin-Ra Submarine. In effect, Hojo's revelation that he is Sephiroth's Father at the end of Disc 2 qualifies as what is considered in story-telling to be a "last minute revelation." It's the last and most definitivie bit of evidence regarding the Male paternity of Sephiroth. Another aspect of story-telling is that the only possibility that has any evidence to suggest toward it is the one that is fact, especially when there is nothing to contest it within the story itself. That being the case, with there being the evidence of Lucrecia rejecting Vincent for Hojo, showing no affection toward Vincent when seeing him again in the present after 30 years, and with Hojo's last minute declaration -- which is further made "last minute" by the fact that journeying into the Northern Crater for the final showdown with JENOVA/Sephiroth is made available immediately after the showdown with Shin-Ra, the last battle of which takes place against Hojo -- Hojo has to be accepted as Sephiroth's Father until more evidence from the source material (the game FFVII, the film FFVII: Advent Children, the prequel FFVII: Before Crisis, Vincent's game Dirge of Cerberus, or the PSP game Crisis Core) can be brought forth to suggest otherwise, because at this time, there is no actual evidence in support of Vincent being the Father of Sephiroth, and only unsupported assumption can draw conclusions in that regard. When you can offer a rebuttal to this that applies evidence from within the game itself, get back to us on this matter, if you would.

Wow...it's amazing how delusional people can get sweatdrop
It'd be really helpful if people read, y'know? crying
There's a possibility that Vincent is Sephiroth's father. No one's denying it. However, the game suggests against this. The evidence that we can gather from the game suggests that Hojo is most likely Sephiroth's father, and I, for one, am not going to argue against the outcome that's more likely. Asides from the fact that Hojo himself claims to be Sephiroth's father, we have this: Quote: Vincent: "Hojo...what a queer fellow. Such utter lack of scientific talent...compared with the genius of Dr. Gast...Lucrecia chose him in order to protect him. Now I understand...I understand...but..." Quote: Vincent: "I'm against it!! Why experiment on humans!?" Quote: Hojo: "She and I are both scientists!!" Yes, this quote does suggest that Lucrecia might have loved Vincent as well, but she chose Hojo, perhaps because she was a dedicated scientist, perhaps thinking that by doing so Hojo's wild ambitions could be curbed.Quote: Vincent: "Kill Sephiroth...killing the son of my beloved woman... Am I on the verge of committing another sin? Or am I atoning as best I can for only standing by?" Note how it says "son of my beloved woman", not "my son"? sweatdrop Additionally, I think Vincent would have been a lot more interested in Sephiroth if Sephiroth was really Vincent's son. But when he joins your party, what he says is Quote: Vincent: "If I go with you, will I find Hojo?" (Well, I'm not sure about the exact wording on that, but close enough...) Not, "If I go withyou, will I find Sephiroth who is also my son in case you don't know?" indicating 1) He is more concerned with stopping Hojo than 2) He is less concerned about Sephiroth. Now, if Vincent was really Sephiroth's dad, wouldn't you think that he'd be just a little more interested in his son's welfare? Quote: Lucrecia: "I wanted to disappear... I couldn't be with anyone... I wanted to die..." "But the Jenova inside me wouldn't let me die..." "Lately, I dream a lot of Sephiroth... My dear, dear child. Ever since he was born I never got to hold him... Not even once. You can't call me his mother... That...is my sin..." Hi hi. Looky! "My child", not "Your child" or "Our child". In case the special "hidden event" thing that was mentioned meant Lucrecia's cave where Vincent, Hojo, Gast and Lucrecia's past, or rather, parts of it, was revealed. Because see--Vincent does not admit anywhere during that flashback that he is Sephiroth's father. Neither does Lucrecia say Vincent is Sephiroth's father. Actually, nowhere in the game does anyone other than Hojo and Lucrecia claim parentage over Sephiroth. I suggest those who would contest that to play the game over a few more times, dears, and find some explicit evidence if you're so sure that you're right. sad
