History: In Darin's mortal life, he was neither rich, nor poor. Well, that's a partial lie, for all college students are poor, and for one brief moment in his life, he could have been considered rich, if not materially so.
It wasn't difficult for Darin to make friends-- the quiet, unassuming youth never had much of a problem with dealing with his peers or the adults surrounding him. But only two friends stuck with him till the very end-- and only one remained with him after the vicious Embrace which tore Darin from his life. The other, Darin buried with a heart filled with grief and guilt-- a deadly combination.
Darin tried to begin his life anew upon waking from the Embrace and discovering he bore a hideous form. But that was not to be either-- for one of his friends died, the other joined him in the everlasting night, his guise far easier on the eyes.
And that is where Darin's journey began, wasn't it? Travel from city to city, roam... and then Chicago. And then New Orleans, where that little boy should not have died, but was dragged into the ceaseless game called the Masquerade. And then...

Guilt? Yes. But perhaps what makes it more painful and more bearable all at once is to have the delicate balance of those who once existed with him in that other world, that place where the Kindred prowled the streets late at night and their needs.
