Kaleb made a dissatisfied noise and got up to follow after Riley. His partner really was too nice, spending so much just to make sure he was comfortable. The mage promised he would make up for it sometime, once he figured out how.

He eventually found someone and paid for the couch before Kaleb could stop him. "Alright .. we can take it." He turned around and grinned at his partner. "And since the place is empty i'm pretty sure no one'll notice yer magic"

Kaleb bit his lower lip, but he conjured a portal anyway. "They're probably going to wonder how the couch left," he muttered, before lifting the couch with his force magic and having it follow him as he stepped through the portal. A couple seconds after the couch had completely vanished through the portal, Kaleb came back out and closed it.

"They can wonder." He shrugged. "Least you don't expect me to go back though that thing." He still didn't trust those portals and had no idea how Kaleb did it. Things weren't suppose to go though gaps in space.

Kaleb smiled as he started towards the front of the store and the front door. "It might be useful if you got used to them, that way you could go anywhere I could go."

"You trust my shields, right?" Kaleb asked as he stepped outside and started back to the office. "You can trust my portals too. It's difficult magic, but I've never made a mistake with them." He thought back to that time they had been trapped under the building, it would have been very useful indeed if he had been familar with a place nearby to portal to.

"They're still creepy as hell." Kaleb got though them fine obviously but he didn't want to know. Reno had said something once about them and it hadn't sounded pleasant.

Kaleb huffed, looking almost offended at Riley's choice of words. "They are certainly a lot less creepy than the ones they were inspired by." He rather thought the white-gold glow was nice, and there was no intermediate realm to travel though. Just one spot to another. He would have to push Riley through one sometime.

"I'm just not gonna ask what it was that inspired them." He headed back down the street toward the Shinra building. "Yer's don't look creepy. Just the whole moving from one point in space to another seems weird"

"You move from one place to another all the time. You're doing it right now." Kaleb said simply. "Portals just make it take less time." He wasn't going to even mention the theory behind the magic, and how it bent reality just enough to make an impossible step from one place to another, that would really put his partner off.

And Riley wasn't supposed to read minds, Kaleb thought to himself. "That's why it's called magic," he said, smiling innocently as they approached the office building. If only getting his partner to use portals was as simple as finding a couch...
