"Da. Da. I have those." Nodding his head with a smile Ivan set about making their drinks and meals, humming softly to himself as he worked.

"Thanks, Mister Petrov." Relm's light green eyes danced at the boys' orders, filing them away for later use. One never knew when such information would be useful. Like the next time Kaleb visited their library -if he ever had use for it now that he could go to the mage one.

She pulled off her gloves as she went to the table & tucked them into her pocket. A siver charm bracelet sparkled from her wrist where it had been hidden by her warm gloves. Ruffling her hair she took a seat.

He leaned back in his chair and stretched. "Smells really good in'ere." He looked at Kaleb. "Yer friend's got good taste in food at least." He'd have to remember this place was here next time he wanted something to eat.

Kaleb glanced over when his partner made no jokes about his choice of beverage, but maybe he was just holding it back because it wasn't just the two of them. "It does smell good," he said with a lopsided smile, fidgeting a bit in his seat. He kind of wanted to ask Relm how everyone else was doing, or if she had heard anything about Miranda, but it wouldn't be polite to go on talking about people his partner wouldn't know. He didn't want to exclude Riley from the conversation.

Relm relaxed comfortably in her chair. She chuckled slightly at the comment. "Thanks, Riley. I think that even if Ian wasn't a dear old man I'd stop in here for the food alone."

A glimmer played in her light green eyes. "So... If I may ask how long have you boys been partners? Since after your big test, Scholar?" And yes, with Ivan Petrov busy making their food & drinks the pictomancer slipped back into using nicknames once more. Although she had begun using them less & less since pairing with Keme, it was a hard habit to break with those that already had nicknames.

"Not that long .. few weeks 'er somethin like that." He shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I'm .... new in the area."

It was easier to say it that way then try to explain something else. It wasn't lying per say even if he wasn't exactally saying the truth either. Thankfully Kaleb didn't prod him about it and he doubted Relm would either.

Kaleb nodded. "I-it feels longer than just a few weeks, but we weren't introduced until after the holidays." He blushed a bit, and fidgeted with his hands. If they had met before his test, Riley probably would have figured out what it involved and then tried to stop him from taking it.

"Well that would explain why you didn't mention him when I was Christmas shopping." Relm was referring to the odd 'name game' that they had played that day in the park though she smiled charmingly & looked more innocent than mischievous.

But something in what Riley said made the pictomancer curious. "You must have made a big impression on Rufus ShinRa. He didn't strike me as the type to hire just anything."

She felt a faint ripple of -envy? disappointment? hurt? But light caught on her bracelet & she smiled again, just as Ivan arrived with their beverages. The aged gentleman grinned his apology. "I will bring your lunches momentarily. I no longer trust myself to carry all at once."

"Thank you Mister Petrov." Relm beamed up at the man, any trace of her brief unhappiness gone.

Kaleb smiled lopsidedly as he accepted his glass of chocolate milk. "Thank you," he said politely, and took a sip before turning to grin at Relm. Receiving the chocolate milk and getting away from the topic of his testing had gone a long way towards restoring his good mood.

"Riley is really good, and he can use magic pretty well too," Kaleb said, grinning over at his partner too. "I haven't had anyone nearly as skilled to practice with since I left the institute."

He took his drink with a nod and grinned at Kaleb's words. "Best damn Mako user Rufus got." He couldn't say he was the best magic user since he hadn't figured out a way to block Kaleb's completely but he could use Mako better than anyone else. For various reasons.

"Kaleb's good. Kinda though Rufus had been on somethin when i first met him but he's pretty damn good at his job"

Wrapping her hands around the pewter & glass mug that was the drinking container of choice for Russian tea Relm closed her eyes & breathed in deeply of the black tea with brown sugar through the floating slice of lemon on top. Part of her wanted to ask about Mako, but she wanted to put it off a moment. Besides she had to control herself form getting angry about the magic thing again. After all, she was much happier with Keme than she would be had Rufus ShinRa taken an interest in her magic.

Her light green eyes snapped open at Riley's last statement. "Of course he's good. Scholar can work with magic with a precision I can only imagine outside of my art." Though her voice held unshakable faith in her friend's magic ability there was a tinge of disappointment that she did not have the dedication to learn such fine points of magic herself. Since their boss likely had her on file the pictomancer did not see any reason to beat around the bush about her ability or hide it. Besides, Kaleb clearly trusted his partner. Her gaze flicked curiously from one to the other, with feigned innocence as she wondered... things.

Just then Ivan returned with their lunches: Relm's soup bowl on a plate with two thick slices of warmed wheat bread slathered with butter & a decent size hunk of reddish sausage, Riley's sandwich on the same bread thick with sliced sausage and a white cheese that looked like it might be sharp with pile of romaine lettuce & slices of fresh tomatoes beside it along with a monkey dish of horseradish sauce & a handful of homemade fried 'chips', and Kaleb's bowl of soup. He set them down -each to the correct customer- with a smile & a twinkle in his bright eyes. "It is Americanish today, tovarishs. I hope you like. Does all look well? Can I get you anything else?" He looked particularly worried at Kaleb's very small portion as would any concerned grandparent type.

Kaleb blushed brightly at the compliments from his friends. He knew Riley hadn't expected much from him when they first met, being as small and young-looking as he was, but he didn't know he had impressed his partner quite that much. He was honoured that both of them had so much faith in his abilities.

He was still blushing a bit when he received his soup, but he managed to raise his eyes above his fidgeting paws to smile at the elderly man. "I-it looks really good, thank you."

He picked up one of the chips and popped it in his mouth. "looks good." It smelt good too. Defiantly worth the wait.

"Probably cause he spends too much time with his nose buried in the bricks he calls books." He looked at Kaleb for a moment.

"Everything's wonderful, Mister Petrov. Thank you." The old man smiled & took himself away.

Relm sliced off a bite of sausage & popped it into her mouth, chewing it carefully before swallowing. Even the most normal things here tasted so good to her. Carefully she drew a spoonful of soup, blowing on it lightly before taking a taste. Equally delicious.

"So." She said at last. "Should I take it your magic comes from this Mako? What is it exactly?" Though her expression remained passive, neutral & perhaps a trifle innocent the pictomancer wondered where the possible line of stepping too far in their conversation might lie so added "Or is it one of those Top Secret things no one's supposed to know about?"

With an almost childish giggle she returned to eating her meal.

Kaleb picked up his spoon and started into his soup. It tasted as good as it looked, and he found it difficult to eat it slowly like he usually would to match the pace of those he was eating with. He was sure the small portion would be enough for him, the potato in particular was pretty filling.

He glanced up at Relm as she spoke, and then glanced over at Riley. "Are there even top secret things?" He muttered with a small smile, not wanting to interrupt the conversation too much.

"Yea ... i mean Rufus runs a kinda, well there's the Labs." That should really explain things. "There's stuff that if people found out about could probably hurt Rufus if he didn't already own most of the people who could hurt him"

He looked at Relm and though about her question. "I'm not exactally sure what it is. I don't even think that scientists understand it completely. It's some sort of, well force i guess, that you can align with certain elements. It can also enhance a persons physical abilities and such."

He didn't think they needed to know all the things that it could do or just home much he actually knew about the substance.
