"Diverse. Well, that would be akin to what I've seen so far. Ystevas is certainly diverse, and many species of being roams its streets." But only on Gaia had she seen magic so tangibly demonstrated. And the furred humanoids were massive in number. Almost too much for her taste. "It's a bit like being in a heart. The Empire stretches far, at least six star systems surrounding Ystevas. My home planet, Carthis, is in the third system from the capital planet. Not far for me, but for you perhaps. Unless you've travelled in space before?"
Thinking a bit, she smiled again. This was rare. Two smiles in as many minutes! Sergei would have dropped dead in shock. "And there are not many adults at the Fleet Academy, save the Instructor Sergeants and the older Lieutenants. It's just how things are, for some of us. Some children go to the Republic House, and become leaders. Some go to the Fleet Academy, and become warriors. And some just stay home with their parents and make their lives what they want them to be. I was sent to the Fleet. And I loved it since I was a small child."
Picking up the wand again, she twirled it lightly, ignoring the stench as the wood and feathers gleamed in the light. "I wonder what these," she looked meaningfully at Luciel's wand, "children will be like. And what they will choose."

Luciel laughed and shook her head. Space? Oh heavens no, she'd never even left the planet unless you counted birth. Space was a frightening place, she thought, remembering some of the movies she'd seen on television depicting interplanetary travel. But seeing and doing were two entirely different things, and she swallowed a lump in her throat after envisioning the crushing gravity a black hole supposedly had.
"The only place I've ever been aside from Gaia is Hell. The Inferno, or whatever the people in the Academy call it, unless such a thing doesn't exist where you come from?" She looked up at the ceiling, as if she could see through it to the stars above. "Sometimes I look up and see the planets, but I can only breathe air and I think I'd be too scared to go anywhere else."
The thought of the child from the wand brought her back to the present. "I honestly don't know what will come of the wands. I would assume their decorations might have something to do with it. I mean, yours has feathers while mine has a tail. Perhaps one is an angel and the other is a beast. You never know. It's interesting to wonder, I think." She smiled and looked to Nessalyn, who seemed to be more comfortable than before.

"Hell is something that occurs everywhere. It's different to everyone, but they all have some form of heaven and hell, don't they?" It was perhaps the only other link, besides the wands, that the two women had. "So, I take it you're a magical being then?" The space commander nearly laughed with the irony of it all. A few days ago, she'd been on her ship, commanding her world and everyone in it, perfectly content. Now she was tied to this strange planet, where magic outweighed logic, and magical creatures were more common than normal ones.
"An angel? Oh dear, that would be something far too much for me. Perhaps my child will me slightly..normal?" It was almost adorably plaintive, a slightly childish wish for her world to go back to the way it was. She simply wasn't a creature of change, and this much thrown on her at once was almost too much!
And for some reason, she was being unnaturally trusting of the other woman. Perhaps because so far, she was the ONLY one that was willing to talk to her? She'd met someone before. But that conversation was stilted, and not too friendly. More...confused than anything.

Lu tapped her chin in thought. "No, I don't believe I would be considered a magical being. At least, not by my own standards, but you're more than welcome to call me whatever you like. My kind and I possess no magical abilities whatsoever, I'm sad to say. A mage I'll definately never be, if you know what I mean." She definately wouldn't fit into a society away from here, she thought, with her rows of teeth and strange goat-horns, especially if everyone from Nessalyn's world all looked the same.
Pointing to her wand, Luciel decided to let the other woman form conclusions for herself. She looked positively spooked, or at least nervous, about the impending child. Being from a world so apart from this would lead to a lot of firsts and shocks during her stay. "Yes, perhaps she'll just be something with a pretty white headdress filled with feathers. Not everyone here is magical in nature. There is a nice source of humans too. The food chain and everything, you know? Otherwise, there would not be half of the life you see here."
Hopefully that would put her mind at ease. She did promise not to ever lay a hand on the woman, and she doubted she could even if she wanted to. It was comforting. "You never know. If anything, and I know you don't like it, but you could always return to the shop if you have questions. And I can give you my address should you ever want to visit me."

"Not a magical being? Mind telling me what you are? Certainly you are not human, and admittedly so." This woman fascinated her. She didn't seem cruel, but for some reason, restrained from getting too close to the commander physically. And didn't she say something about...eating?
"It's just all new to me, and it is stupidity to ignore something when it's presenting itself in such...convenience." The stoic woman indicated the mancubus sitting in front of her with a gesture, though not a rude one.
If Luciel was going to offer herself up as a source, she was damn well going to take it. Starting with learning as much as she could about her.

"Ahh..." Luciel began, fiddling her fingers in and out of each other nervously. "Well, I would tell you as long as you did not feel threatened." She looked to the commander with an uneasy eye. No, she wasn't human, and at times she wishes she were. Things seemed so much easier when one didn't have a large and tangled network of relatives and magic abilities to keep track of. But humans had their own kind of drama in their lives.
Sighing, she began to explain, hoping Nessalyn wouldn't alienate her forever just because she couldn't help what she was. "I am what is called a mancubus. We can't eat anything but... humans, really. But I don't like it. It gives me lots of abilities, but with everything comes a price. I like to eat the people no one cares for, like criminals. That sort of thing."
She hoped that explanation would at least ease any tensions between them. Their common bond was the wands and the children that would come from them. She tapped her fingers together nervously, waiting for a response. "I have some knowledge of demons and magical creatures, but a lot of it is new to me too."

"Threatened? I don't find you especially threatening, Luciel, and as I said, I doubt you could if you tried." It was probably extremely cocky of her to make such an assumption, but a little bravada never hurt. Especially now that she was extremely out of her depth.
Listening, she was perhaps, a bit taken aback. Ness had been planned for a few things, taking the horns and sharp teeth into consideration but...eating humans? Mancubus, was it? Well. It could be worse. She could eat any human at random.
"Demons is it? Well, perhaps we can find someone with a knowledge of angels. With my worldly knowledge, your demonic, and their angelic, we would be a formidable child-rearing team!"
It was a bad attempt at humor, but she really wanted the woman to be at ease. There was something about Luciel that Nessalyn innately liked about her!

"Haha! Yes, well, I don't know anyone with the knowledge of angels, but I'm sure I can find someone. Or we could always take a trip to the library. As cheesy as it sounds, sometimes that could be the best resource." She laughed again and scratched her head. Luckily the woman wasn't afraid of her, and that put her mind at ease. She wouldn't need lunch in a few days anyway, so there was no threat at all.
Turning her attention back to the wand and the matter at hand - what to do with them. "Do you think you'll be able to handle a child? I mean, you're stuck here on Gaia with no spaceship and everything. I hope nothing's too much trouble for you. You can always give me a call. I'm afraid I don't know what comes next with these wands, but we can always find out together." she said with a smile and sat back, patting the wand.
It did make her wonder what sorts of children would come of these wands. If they were human, demon, angel or beast. Only time would tell, and Kay didn't know herself when they spoke some months ago. If she spoke to the girl when she got home, she probably wouldn't have any more answers now than she did before. Best to just dive in and find out at this point. Maybe there would be a button or a switch on the wands...

"Well. It can't be too difficult. My parents had quite a few children themselves, and I have a lot of younger siblings that I helped take care of before I went off to the Academy." Her face grew very thoughtful at that point, almost crafty, had it been anyone else. "Perhaps I can even rope my officers into helping me."
Granted, they were busy covering for her in her leave. Sergei was probably having a field day, commanding HER ship. Not that he could do remotely as well as her. Ever. In a millennia.
When Luciel spoke again, she snapped back from her thoughts, and gave the mancubus a sheepish look. "I would offer the use of our database, but I'm afraid it doesn't run high on things like angels. There's so many ideas, and so many diverse opinions on the subject. I doubt little would be factual."
Getting up, she paced a bit, walking a perfect line. It was something she had picked up as a lieutenant. Her commander had always walked a straight line while pacing, and she'd practiced for hours to get it right. Not it was just habit.
"I wish we just knew more! And I don't trust that shop for answers."

Luciel shrugged as she watched the other woman start to pace. She didn't have many more answers than the commander, but she knew a little bit. She wasn't really too worried about it at this point, but it was a subject of endless curiousity. She tilted her head in thought. "Well, what we could do is, instead of going to the shop for answers, we could find the names and addresses of other caretakers and see how much more they know?"
"My son has a past I'm not aware of, and for some reason, I have the same feeling about these creatures. Of course, I could be completely off. But ever since my son came into existance, it's something I've always considered, you know?" She shrugged again. She was thinking too much, and if worse came to worse, Nessalyn might have some sort of information overload and she would have to be carted back to the Academy to have them reassemble her brain.
She scratched the bottom of her chin. "Or we could just run with it. Fly by the seat of our pants and whatnot. No use worrying too much about it, I think. We could cross that bridge later. I wouldn't want to worry you too much."

"I would think perhaps those with older charges, ones that have already manifested would be best." Her arms were clasped behind her back, a hand wrapped around each elbow as she paced. It also forced her back straight, another habit she had picked up.
Nessalyn always, always, had perfect posture.
And that was something to consider as well. A past? "What sort of past would a wand given to me have? I mean...I'm not mystical, or mythical, or anything other than practical." This was so much to think about. So much she didn't WANT to think about. That was the beauty of her position. At night, when she was in her spacious, beautiful, luxurious cabin, she could turn it all off and sleep.
Now her sleep schedule was hell.
"I suppose either way, we're going to have to wing it. At least you have practice with young children already!"

The mancubus shook her head, knowing now that mentioning a past and rebirth and all the mess that came with it was probably the worst idea in the history of thought. Perhaps Nessalyn could meet her son one day and he could answer some questions, if she sucked up to him and he was in a good mood. God, he's not my son. Why do I suddenly call him that? This is ridiculous, he barely calls me anything at this point.
"Rebirth and all that. Could happen a lot on Gaia without us knowing, because I know I'm not omnipotent in the slightest." she explained, opening her arms in a gesture so that Nessalyn could see, somehow, that she was all that sat before her, and nothing more. "But there might not be anything to the wand aside from a child, but you never know."
She nodded at the mention of experience, though her kind was never known to reproduce. She was one of the few, if only, and it was proven now that mancubus beget mancubus. And Nephilim was very even-tempered. "I do have a daughter as well. I think you would like her. You could come over sometime if things get too overwhelming and I could make you some food. You could enjoy the weather. Spring is finally arriving."

Now THERE was something she hadn't expected to get. A friendly invitation. Really, Nessalyn didn't expect to make anything remotely approaching a friend. And now she was getting an invitation for lunch. With a mancubus.
Well, perhaps stranger things had happened. That Tangathan raid two years previous would probably take the cake. Slime tentacle monsters that only liked women. That was weird. Give them a teenage girl to talk to and they were docile as kittens!
"A daughter? Indeed, you're just bursting with experience. And I think I'd like that. I've not really gotten a chance to get out. Haven't really wanted to, actually. Lunch would be nice!" Another one of those genuine smiles came from the commander, tossing her braid back over her shoulder.
"Perhaps then we can go through the registry. Or I might even be able to use planetary records as well, if there's gaps. I wonder..." She would have to get in touch with the embassy here. Definitely.

Luciel clapped her hands together in glee. "Then it's a date! Here, I'll write down my phone number so you can give me a call should you ever want to drop by. I'm usually at home, so you're welcome over any time." Clicking her fingernails together in thought, she looked around for a paper to write on. Finding some scratch paper and a pencil on the table near the sofa, she jotted down the address and phone number, and handed it to the commander.
Picking up the wand, she tapped the butt on the floor to rid it of any dust or dirt. Who knew what would come of the wands but time. Eventually, they'd come together again to discuss such things as children and mysticism while the new babies played on the floor. God, she felt so old then. She was but thirty-five, she thought, in human years. That wasn't so bad. It was so good to have another friend around the house.
"I should be going now, though. Can't keep the children unattended for too long." she admitted as she looked at the clock. She gave a curt bow at the waist and wandered to the door. "Don't be a stranger now, alright? Commander of a spaceship or not, the wand's scary business, and we have to stick together to stay sane." The last part came with a giggle to indicate humor, and she was out the door and into the night, making her way back home.

That Strange Woman Luciel:;
As the light faded from her apartment, Nessalyn systematically went through and turned on the two lights that would serve to illuminate the whole apartment for the evening. It was a rather small apartment, just a small bedroom and a living room slash kitchen. And she preferred it that way. It was more like her cabin.
Smiling a bit ruefully at the gleamingly polished, yet still slightly odorous wand resting on the recliner, she sat at her desk. Reaching into her pocket, there was a small silver disc, when pressed, displayed a holographic green screen with the words 'Ready' displayed on it.
Measuredly, almost monotonously, Nessalyn started talking.
"Fifth of March, Empirean year 2543. Today something a bit odd, and yet fortuitous at the same time has happened. A mancubus (note for reference) not much younger than myself, came to visit, and presumably, to ask me questions about these wands." Emerald green eyes rested on her own, remembering their conversation. A child...
Running her fingers through the long satin of her hair, she continued, her voice not betraying her nervousness, or her doubts about the situation.
"I have come to learn that a child of some sort will eventually replace the wand. It was speculated that it would emerge from the wand, but how this is possible I do not know. For sure, this world is more inherently magical than any other previously known. (References to be sought.) I think, with time, my situation will become less permanent, and I may return to my duties. As for the woman, Luciel, I forsee an interesting relationship. She mentions a son, who does not regard her as so, and a young daughter. The woman also has, in her posession, another of the wands."
Recalling the afternoon, and how they had not really done much other than talk, Nessalyn had to think for a moment to bring the appearance of the mancubus' wand to the forefront of her mind.
"In contrast to my own, hers was of a smoother wood, red, with strange claw marks on it. Also, a stinger adorned the finial orb, and perhaps wings? " One hand thoughtfully tapped her lip.
"This will be an ongoing relationship I believe. At least, it could not hurt to make acquaintances." Or even a friend.
