What the..?!

The pocky had sat in the floor for some time, forgotten and unnoticed. At some point, some of Nate's dirty laundry had covered it up and the guy had forgotten about the piece of candy that he was not to eat. So it came as a shock one morning to Nate to awaken and find a naked little boy sitting in his floor, trying to cover himself with the too-large clothing around him.

"WHAT THE?! DAAAADDD!" Nate shouted, jumping out of bed in surprise. Since the comet man was naked, this caused the smaller naked boy to shout, covering his reddish-orange eyes with his hands.

Talner rushed into the room and was greeted by two screaming, naked males. Though Nate was his son, the man was still uncomfortable seeing the other man naked. "Nate... get dressed... and both of you stop screaming!" He adverted his gaze from the older naked boy to the younger one. Ah, this was a young child... "Here, let's go see if we can find you something to wear..." Unfortunately, he knew that most of Nate's old clothes had been burned... and that fireman's outfit was way too ragged to make the kid wear. Perhaps... there'd be something?

----

Later, the three males were sitting at the table. The orange haired boy was in an old short set from when Nate was younger and was obviously disliking it. Nate was dressed and no one was screaming.

"So... where'd you come from?" Talner asked the boy, who just shrugged.

"Daddy..." Nate held up the little bag from the candy shop. "It's empty... and it was under where was sitting..."

Talner groaned. Gaia was seriously ******** up. Kids came from nowhere... and no one could live here without getting one. "Well, I guess he's stuck with us then... What's your name, kid?" Another shrug.

"Can I name him?" Nate asked. Talner almost made a remark about this not being a puppy or a cat, but as he was lost on ideas, just shrugged. "The man said the candy was a flavor called... Kabocha... it means Pumpkin."

Talner glanced at the little boy. Pumpkin? Well, he did have orange hair and eyes... "Kabocha it is, then. I suppose we need to go shopping and get you some clothes, kiddo."

Kabocha grinned and nodded. Yes, clothes. Something besides these horrible clothes he was being forced to wear!

Shopping!!!

So the family was out shopping for clothes. How fun was this going to be? Talner headed the two kids to the department store at the end of the mall and they were soon in the middle of the children's section of the store. Nate was looking through one of the displays. "Look, Daddy! They have Spongebob and Scooby Doo shirts!"

Talner groaned. Which boy were they shopping for again? Kabocha was looking at the clothes, his nose wrinkled in dislike. "No." The quiet boy stated, crossing his arms and frowning. "No."

"No... what?" His father asked, looking around.

"No this." The boy stalked out of the department store, leaving Talner to quickly grab Nate and follow along.

The man's jaw nearly hit the floor as the young boy walked straight into one of the expensive designer clothing stores. Kabocha walked into the middle of the store before pausing and looking back at his father. "Yes."

Store clerks were falling over themselves to help the three customers, though it was obvious that Talner and Nate were very uncomfortable. Two ladies had Kabocha up on a little stool and were taking measurements and jotting them down while asking the boy a series of questions about colors, styles, and a whole bunch of things that Talner didn't even think had to do with clothing.

Finally, one of the clerks brought over several pieces of clothes and they were quickly getting the boy dressed and pinning them while Kabocha looked in the mirror. A few times he frowned and they quickly put on something else.

The boy soon settled upon three nice outfits, all suits. One was pinstriped dark navy, another pinstriped dark green, and the last a plain black. And the boy had picked out a selection of button-up shirts and ties (not clip-ons... they made ones that weren't??) to mix and match with the three suits.

The clerks informed Talner that the tailoring would be done later that day, but they requested payment then. The man followed one of the clerks to the register while Kabocha made sure that the clerks had gotten the right ones. The man just stood and stared at the young boy until the clerk cleared his throat. "That'll be $645, sir."

Talner's jaw hit the floor. "For three outfits?!"

The clerk glanced at the ticket. "Three jackets and slacks, two pairs of shoes, a dozen shirts, and a dozen silk ties. Plus tailoring. That comes to $645 after taxes, sir."

The man handed over his credit card, swearing to strangle this new kid later...

Brotherly... love?

It had been some time since the piece of pocky had turned into a rather pompous, prim little boy. Still... the Coleman household was chaotic. Nate still refused to admit that he had a little brother. Especially since this little brother preferred to watch shows like Project Runway instead of Scooby Doo and other cartoons.

Plus, Kabocha strutted about the house like it was a manor. Since his first shopping trip for clothes, he'd managed to talk Talner into buying some nice silk pjs and a robe to wear over them. It just wasn't normal for a young boy. It made Nate feel uncomfortable and he didn't like that.

For his own part, Kabocha didn't like his older brother. Nathaniel went by some childish nickname and wore such horrible clothing. So did their father, really. The boy was the only one with any fashion sense and felt like he was speaking a foreign language when it came to clothing and them.

Journal Entry: 01/25/10

It's been a long time since I've written... so long that it took me a long time to find this journal. I've been busy practicing my powers lately. I was interrupted for a while when Kabocha showed up, but now I've gotten back to practicing. Kabocha watches sometimes, but I think he finds it boring. I've managed to get my aim down rather well and can hit just one can at at time now! I still have problems controlling the heat if I get upset, though. Daddy thinks that's just going to be how it will always be. So I have to remember to calm myself if I start to get upset. It's hard. That meditation crap is... well, crap.

My practicing is a lot more fun than meditation. I want to see if I can control the size and range more, now that I've got more control overall. I need to try and get ahold of Halycon and show him how I'm doing now! He's much better than those mean teachers at the library...
