Marduk shut his mouth and did as he was told. He lowered the concealment for Red but kept it for everyone else. He could tell Marc was getting annoyed with him. Snice he was lead on this particular case Marduk bit his lip and let the insults slide, but the war had already been delcared. Time who tell who was superior, Marduk or this 'Johnathan'. Marduk was any if not paitent. He would bide his time on this matter from now on. He'd done enough.

"Well you're the boss on this case Marc." Marduk conceeded.

He did NOT want office duty again. If being quiet and doing as he was told or reflexivly saving a butt or two was to he his place for awhile, he would have to accept it. After all the onl way for him to make progress towards is goal was to be a 'Good boy' By human standards. Stupid magical law. He could wipe the planet of them but nooooo the magic had to have limits. He was bending the rules right now by caging this 'Sidhe' in iron. He'd better not push it.

Marc left it to someone else to field Jonathan's question: if Marduk was too busy being a b*****d, Morgan was surely within earshot by now.

Over the phone, Charlie explained, "I need something more specific than just 'lesser fae.' That could be anything... salamanders, boggarts, undines, pixies... and the list goes on. Has he said anything else that might narrow the search down a bit, like where he's from? Does he have any weird features or reactions to things?"

"There's the iron thing," he told her, yet again ruffling one hand through his hair, "but, of course, that's pretty much universal. He says he's a Sidhe, and he's boastful enough for that. he says he's from Crying Heart... you did get that he's calling himself Jonathan Hollyoak, right?"

He regarded the captive fae, looking him up and down, trying to determine any especially distinguishing features.

"Oh," he added, "And he's got really small feet. I mean really small."

"There's the iron thing," Marc replied as Charlie started to narrow her search, tossing an index of Middle Eastern orgin out of her way, "but, of course, that's pretty much universal. He says he's a Sidhe, and he's boastful enough for that. He says he's from Crying Heart..." Charlie frowned, not recognizing the name off the top of her head, and closed another thick book with a snap, "you did get that he's calling himself Jonathan Hollyoak, right?"

Her search was narrowing and as she flipped through a Gaelic and Irish index looking for the homes of the most common sidhe, since the British Isles were the original home of that particular beed of faery folk, her frowned increased, not finding any sidhe haven that even traslated to 'Crying Heart'.

"Oh," came Marc's voice after a second of silence, "and he's got really small feet. I mean really small."

Charlie looked up from the index she'd been searching through, reaching the end of the ancient list of sidhe havens. "Hollyoak is a common sidhe surname, but small feet?" she mused, "That's new."

She sat back with a sigh, twisting her chair back and forth, "I'm not finding anything, Marc. No sidhe homes known to man, ancient or modern, can be translated to 'Crying Heart'. And I've never heard of a sidhe with really small feet before. I mean, I could be wrong -- I'm only human -- but I'd say that this guy is either feeding you lies or he's from a completely new breed of fae."

She bit her lower lip as she thought, "Is Marduk with you? Can't he identify who this guy is?"

The rustling of pages being flipped filtered over the connection. "I'm not finding anything, Marc," she sighed at last. "No sidhe homes known to man, ancient or modern, can be translated to 'Crying Heart'. And I've never heard of a sidhe with really small feet before. I mean, I could be wrong -- I'm only human -- but I'd say that this guy is either feeding you lies or he's from a completely new breed of fae."

He looked at the captive Jonathan Hollyoak again, his amber eyes narrowed. Well, yes, it would not surprise him at all if the creature was lying outrageously, but he did not expect it from a fae imprisoned in iron. And the lies weren't outrageous, as Fae lies tended to be.

"Is Marduk with you?" Charlie asked after a moment. "Can't he identify who this guy is?"

"Yes Marduk is with me," Marc answered through gritted teeth, "And he's being as disagreeable as he ever is. He's also dumped the whatever-he-is in an iron cage, and they're having a jolly old time trading insults. All he's had to say so far is that he's a lesser Fae. Look mare you sure there's nothing about the Castle of Crying Heart? In Elphame? He mentioned it boastfully, and it doesn't sound too outrageous to me... And I'm not sure you understand me about the feet -- they're almost like the toes of those ballet shoe things. Points. Pointes. Whatever. Tiny." He scrubbed at the side of his face with one hand as he spoke. This was annoying. They weren't even certain that this was the guy who had done the damage in the first place! He sighed. What a farce.

"Yes Marduk is with me," Marc answered, and Charlie though he sounded rather perturbed by that fact, "and he's being as disagreeable as he ever is. Points. Pointes. Whatever. Tiny."

"Elphame?" Charlie repeated, "Well, that's the name used in several Old English texts to refer to the home of the Faeries. Elf-land if you will, which probably originated in Old Norse legends about the home of the elves, known as Alflheim. There's no known location for Elphame in any text, it's just a vague reference. Some view it as a place of benevolence and other see it as evil. Most fae trace their bloodlines back to Elphame, but whether or not it's true is unknown."

She sighed and flicked on her computer, "Let me check the web for something. There has got to be at least one paranormal group out there who has heard of the Castle of Crying Heart."

"Did you say that Marduk is trading insults with this sidhe? That's really strange, usually fae grovel after seeing him."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 21, 2007 8:43 pm

"Thanks, Charlie, you're an angel," Marc sighed. "We'll probably have to bring him in for registration.... he claiming not to know who we are, but you get that--"

"Did you say Marduk is trading insults with this sidhe?" she asked, sounding almost concerned. "That's really strange, usually fae grovel after seeing him."

"Yeah," he agreed, yet again flicking his hair out of his face. "That struck me as odd, too. He's either got a lot of guts, or he's really, honestly got no idea."

"If you wanted information all you had to do was ask. But you didn't. Honestly I don't know that much myself. I was born with this planet, nothing with the place this one comes from. I do know the kind though Iron is nearly leathal and so is holy magic. They can't come in contanct with anything of the sort. But thats neither here nor there." Marduk told marc, contemplating the events that were going on.

"And I am not going to trade insults any more. If this one insists that what he says is true then he isn't bound by the same rules as me. Obviously he could be very dangerous if he wants conquest of this world and to be Honest with you Marc, I would be powerless to stop him. You know I can't change the evolution of life on this planet. I barely get away with bending the rules working with the BSPA." Marduk admitted glumpy and shrank even more hoping that Johnathan hadn't hear what he said.

"I think I'd bet on the later, not even a sidhe has enough guts to talk that way to one of the 'Father Race'," she said with an ironic smile as she clicked through one of the more powerful government search engines available to the Bureau. She tucked some long tendrils of auburn hair behind her ear. The messy bun she'd hastily stuck her hair into after receiving that old grimorie from the confinscated materials department was coming a part and all the loose ends were starting to bug her.

"In the end," she told Marc as she waited for her search to bring something up, "you'll have to bring him in anyway since he's not registered. Maybe we'll get more out of him then and we'll finally get to the bottom of all this."

Marc blinked and shook his head as he mentally separated the two conversations. He nodded to Marduk, as he answered Charlie, who had said, with an ironic tone:

"I think I'd bet on the later, not even a sidhe has enough guts to talk that way to one of the 'Father Race',

"Yeah, you wouldn't think so, would you" he shrugged, tugging at his other ear.

"In the end," she said, after a pause, "you'll have to bring him in anyway since he's not registered. Maybe we'll get more out of him then and we'll finally get to the bottom of all this."

"Yeah, I know. Marduk says he can't come up with much either, beyond the usual iron and holy magic stuff. He's... He says he's probably bound by different rules... I take it that means the earth magic stuff things don't apply. If that helps you at all. Jussa sec..."

He covered the mouthpiece, and turned to Red. "Sorry you missed out on the action. Could you buzz for a vehicle? Tell 'em it's an unco-operative fae. Thanks," he smiled.

"Yeah, sorry, Charlie. Nothing still?"

"Yeah, I know," she heard Marc reply as she pushed more loose strands of hair out of her face. "Marduk says he can't come up with much either, beyond the usual iron and holy magic stuff. He's... He says he's probably bound by different rules... I take it that means the earth magic stuff things don't apply. If that helps you at all. Jussa sec..."

"No problem," she said absently as the first search came up blank. She frowned and bit her lower lip, staring at her computer screen with rapt concentration as she heard Marc talk to Red through the phone line.

"Yeah, sorry, Charlie," he said, "Nothing still?"

"Nope, my web search came up with zip. But if what Marduk said is right, it's likely that we're not dealing with an Earth-bound creature. Normal sidhes and other fae folk, like Marduk, are bound to this Earth because they were created with it. Their magic grows and wanes with the planet's fluctuations so there is a limit to the things they can affect. Although, I've never heard of sidhes being able to jump dimentions or anything."

Marduk was doing his best to listen to the phone conversation. It was easier for him becuase he was right on Marc's shoulder. He heard able the dimensional shift.

"She hasn't heard of that?! Thats a basic power of Mistake that most of the powerful magic users can make if they experiment with teleporting to a place they have never been before! Why do you think I don't teleport anywhere I haven't been before. I might try it and end up in a void with no magic. Then I would die for sure!" Marduk told Marc and towards the phone as well. Hopefully they would both hear him. He was at least trying to be helpful this time instead of arrogant as all hell. Once again, anything to avoid office duty.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 21, 2007 10:40 pm

Charlie heard what Marduk said, his voice turned faint through the phone's connection. She assumed that he was on Marc's person and was able to hear her.

"'A mistake?'" she repeated. "Then it's more than possible that this sidhe is from another dimention of some sort. It would explain why he appeared out of nowhere and his reaction to you, Marduk. The overall configuration of worlds would be completely different, as well as the faery hierarchy."

Marc had move the phone away from his ear a little so that Marduk would be able to hear Charlie's reply more clearly.

This wasn't quite over his head yet -- although the talk about teleportation did make him a little uncomfortable -- but he certainly did not know enough to offer any insight. Instead, he kept his amber eyes affixed on the face of the captive sidhe. Personally, he suspected that this fae was a nobody, talking himself up. He was prepared to accept that he was from the Castle of the Crying Heart; the faerie realms surely hadn't been fully mapped -- was that even possible? Eventually, anyway, there would prove to be a nice, simple explanation for this. It was very, very rare for there not to be.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 21, 2007 11:01 pm

Marduk Smiled and let marc know that he appericated moving the phone so he could speak more easily.

"Well as you all well know, on this planet and realm, there is no fae Heirarchy. That leads to fighting and two fae cannot fight. The sheer force of the magics brought about could rip the planet apart. If they do not have the same rules, hell they don't even have the same appearance, then this could be very very bad. On the other hand, we fae on this realm also have no birthrate because we are made simply of energy and magic. If they procreate it would explain quite a few of the extenricties and desires for power..." Marduk thought aloud.

Aileen had enough. She knew something was there, and obviously they weren't going to make themselves known so in her mind there was only one thing left to do. Force them. Taking a deep breath, that is exactly what she intended to do. Drawing both pistols she aimed in the general direction of where the blast of emotion came from and fired two warning shots. She waited a good thirty seconds and emptied the pistol in her left hand. Reaching for another one under the right side of her jacket, she held it ready. Having at least four weapons on you at all times seemed helpful after all.
