Being the wanna-be director that I am. (I've directed a few plays, and bad low budget movies with friends.) I would love to make a faithful adaptation of the book for the big screen. No name changes, no lost characters. As faithful as it can be while not as jumbled as the book itself actually reads.

GarrisonKael I'm almost sad to admit that I haven't yet seen the Yeston/Kopit musical. I've heard of it's infinitely bad cheesyness and have avoided it. Now I have a morbid curiousity towards viewing it. Like a train wreck... I can only listen to it on occasion, such as late at night and perhaps only a few times a year simply because my ears bleed if I listen to it enough. The worst part is that while the lyrics are wretched, the music is not horrible and is catchy enough to get stuck in your head. Inevitably after listening, I will always of Melodie du Paris stuck in my head... Arg, just even thinking about it... "Melody, melody, melody, melody, sung so melooodiously...." *goes off to beat head*

Sometimes I read through the book and think "That would have to go. This part would be good in a movie. etc."

The Rogued girl Keiatra I have a version that I think was based off the book - O___o I havnt seen it in a long time. All I remembre of it that is starts out in New York with a Girl named Christine Daee' and a mirror smashes and BOOM back to Paria we go! Wee! XD 1989 version with Robert Englund... badly based off the book... kinda creepy... And Who The Fudge is Richard?! (Yeah, I know Raoul... but why Richard?! Based off the book, yeah right) D: Yeah... nowhere do I remember Carlotta getting beheaded in the book. And they went to LONDON, not Paris. Which makes it even more, "O_____o WTF?!"
...and you know what happens to "Richard"? xD My friend and I have the stupidest joke...
Richard: D: Gah. I'm cold. *sits on a candle* *catches fire* O____O OH, DEAR LORD, MY ARSE BURNS!!
Andandand... D: Erik blows out candles weird. Like... violently. And then he spits everywhere. It's vaugely disturbing, really.

So, I finally got it watched and......
I liked it. I didn't love it like the book or the musical. I didn't think it's a great piece of work, either.
It's camp. It's no where near true to the original story. Erik was indeed almost cuddlable. (Note made up word) Definitely has many many problems.
Yet, I loved certain scenes in it. Erik's rage when the audience boos Christine. The whole unmasking at the picnic(I didn't like the picnic or any of that, just the end.) Hell, just the look of Erik in general and his acting when not being cute and having a sense of humor. The two masks. Just cracked me up.
I recommend it if you feel like letting go and just watching something kind of campy but fun. It's better than some of the other versions out there. Need I mention telepathic rats?
Worst parts: A lovely picnic thru an underground forrest filled with dead animals with Erik sporting a fetching hat and cane. And the whole backstory was just re-tard-ed.

Ooh, I love that miniseries. It's my favorite out of all the POTO movies. Sure it's not very canon friendly, but there are OPERA SEQUENCES and Erik is so witty it hurts.

XD Sounds like the Robert Englund film and that is only loosely based off the novel. Don't remind me of that gross thing...Why did I even think it would be good...?
The miniseries sounds...funny...
Well, since I like comedies and I like Phantom, I guess I'll see if I can watch it...Though it may not be such a good mix...
