Shae giggled slightly as he glanced behind himself to see the other's eyes remain fixedly on the ceiling. "You can look. It's alright. It's not as if my life has ever been private, what with having six brothers. And I'm usually the one they come running to first." It really was the truth. Whether his brothers were younger or older than him, they usually came to him first -- his younger brothers for consolation and "sisterly" love, and his elder brothers advice pretaining to whoever was their favorite lady at the time.

A small flush formed on the prince's cheeks at the other's words. Damn. This one was rather smarter than Shae had anticipated. "I... yes. They were for the festival. I mean, well... what if a farmer had guessed and I had gone unprepared for a week of working in the feilds? This way was simply more convenient," he explained slowly.

He glanced at the dress the other had picked and nodded in wordless agreement. He reached forward, his hand lightly brushing the other's arm as he did so (purely by accident, of course), and he tugged out a long, thick cloak of saphire blue. Apparently it was a nice offset for his red-orange hair.

"Is this alright?"

“Six brothers?” Well, that was a bit daunting. He wondered how many of them he would have to beat within an inch of their life because they were against his pairing with their beloved ‘sister’? More than that, he would hate to have them come after him thinking that he had dishonorable intentions for Shae. Hopefully they would come across someone who demanded that there be at least some sort of escort. Still, he was beginning to doubt it.

As for the clothing, one might say it was less intelligence than it was animal instinct - although he didn’t seem to have it in terms of distinguishing one gender from another. Perhaps, in the long run, it didn’t matter. He closed his eyes in the moment that he was touched, and basked in the sensation. By the time he awoke from his seconds long daydream, he found himself assaulted by the vision of dark blue against the fair complexion of the beautiful being before him, and he looked away immediately - as if to stare too long might cause an inappropriate reaction. “Yes, yes that one is fine. It seems a bit thin, but layered right, it should be alright. We’ll keep you warm. ...Alright then. Are we ready? Perhaps... I should talk to the steward here, so that when my entourage arrives, they know to wait a while?”

Shae procured a large, rather worn bag from the closet (he was happy to say that he had been using it for years and thus it would smell as it should - of him and his clothes). He packed the dress the cloak, and a few other garments that would be suitable (man or not, he wanted to be able to change clothes). Shae nodded slowly. "That might be best. Although it might be fun to just leave them wondering," he murmured with a small, impish smile. It was a joke, really, but the other might not take it as such.

Either way, Shae was most certainly enjoying this taste of freedom. He had always been rather kept behind doors.

"I think that should be alright. Only, I need to change. I don't think these clothes-" he gestured down at the pretty, ornate dress and the knee-high ebony boots he was wearing "-are quite fit for riding. So, if you... wouldn't mind, I'll be out in a moment," he said, smiling sweetly as he did so.

“Oh, indeed your Highness.” Leif responded eloquently, along with a brief bow before he made his way back into the hallway. For a moment, he had the urge to peek - but he resisted, thoughts of his countrymen in his mind. Yes, it might be fun to leave them wondering - up until the point they assumed that the people of Chver had either killed him or were holding him hostage - then it wouldn’t be so fun, as most of the area would likely be reduced to burning embers, and there was nothing like a death toll to put a damper on a festival.

As Shae changed into something more suitable for a journey, Leif decided he should take care of his own obligations, scrawling a rather scant letter and sealing it with the crest of his ring before handing it off to a servant with very simple instructions. She didn’t seem very intelligent to him, as there was something a bit off about the way she kept turning her glance away and giggling. Perhaps she had some sort of condition. It was so kind of the household to take someone like her on, but it made him worried that the task might not be completed in a timely or efficient way.

Shae changed quickly enough, swapping his elegant festival dress for much simpler and more durrable one made dyed a delicate crimson (if that was at all posible). He folded his change of clothes for the trip, including his cloak (which he put on top), and put them neatly in the saddle bag. THough he was small, he shouldered it easily and exited the room quite silently.

He glanced over at the other, smiling, and said, "Alright, then. I shall simply ready my horse and we may be off." That smile of his was simply charming, in all aspects, although now it contained a slgihtly rougue-ish hint.

Leif, as was becoming his routine, simply marveled at Shae’s beauty as he reentered the room, the stars of love dancing in his eyes. He couldn’t stay stunned forever, as he was addressed - and he notices a rather sizeable satchel weighing down his ‘lover’ (as he would consider Shae to be.) “Yes, that is... excellent. Yes, excellent...” He trailed off as he tried to come up with a tactful way of asking to help with the bag of clothing. “Would you... like me to help with that?” He was beginning to think that he didn’t have much to offer Shae other than sheer brawn - that is, when one didn’t consider his political and monetary assets, which he usually didn’t. “The bag, that is. It wouldn’t be any trouble.” His own horse was already prepared for travel, and waiting down near the festival. He assumed that they’d get Shae’s horse first, then travel to his.

Shae truly was stubborn and for a moment it was apparent that he had decided to refuse the other's offer -- but then he seemed to remember himself. He was a princess. Not a prince. He would just have to bear with the humiliation of allowing someone else to do the 'hard lifting' for him.

After a moment's hesitation, he inclined his head in silent assention, and passed the bag on to Leif. "I... thank you," he mumbled rather uncertainly, for a short moment losing his grace. Soft pink patches colored his cheeks but he soon forced them back down.

The stables were rellitively close at hand. He led the other through several corradors before he carefully opened a set of large doors that led outside - but not to the garden.

Instead, they had come to a large stable that was set before a large feild, with a forest beyond. He entered the stables and stopped at the fourth stable (he was the fourth child). With most royalty, some sort of servent likely would have done all this... but Shae, no matter how sheltered he was, prefured doing this on his own (as the unfortunate servents had learned after some short time of repeated glares).

His horse was a deep chestnut brown with a white crest on its chest and white "socks." "This is Maple," Shae said as he led the horse out. "Maple, this is Leif - he's a prince from very far away."

He didn’t see it as heavy lifting, and he normally wouldn’t ask - but somehow, Leif remembered this as being the “appropriate” thing to do, a lesson hard learned from his governess who would whap him in the head any time he didn’t offer to help her carry pretty much anything. When they arrived, he made certain to continue holding the satchel, not wanting to let it get dirty during his introduction to the horse.

He felt particularly strange about the introduction, as no one else had let him “meet” their horse before, but as he spoke to his own steed quite often, he didn’t think much of it. There was, however, the need for a response - and for a moment, he felt like an old man humoring a child. “Good day to you Maple,” he spoke, then gave his best princely smile - the very grin that had gotten him out of trouble (or in more trouble, depending on the situation), more than once.

“Please take care of my sweet princess on our journey,” he further asked of Maple, deciding it couldn’t hurt to make sure that Shae was safe. Coughing a little, he corrected himself before he got any undesirable looks in his direction. “And by my princess, I mean THE Princess Shae Mera, the princess of Chver, not just my heart.” He wasn’t very good at being smooth, but he made no excuses or apologies.

Shae tried very hard not to laugh. He really did. But it was just too hard not too. And so a bright laugh - more than just the occasional giggle - burst forth in all its slightly bewildered and disbeleiving glory. He hurriedly stifled it, however, shooting the other an apologetic look. At the very least he had contained his snort. That probably would have done him in as overly rude.

"Ahh... sorry, it's just... you've only just met me," he explained after a moment, making sure he was quite able to speak clearly before he did so. Really, this foreign prince wasn't much in the feild of courting, whatever his experience in the battlefeild.

Leif was obviously not the type to be easily disheartened. He plunged headfirst into anything and everything he did in life, and he had a strong skull, as he survived even when he hit shallow water. “What a robust laugh you have,” he cooed, again missing the most obvious of signs. “But, love transcends time. Whether a minute or a century, my love will remain the same.” His eyes glimmered with intensity, full of the sort of passion that could start wars. It might mean that he’s simply insane, but more than likely that he was a simple man who knew what he wanted in life without overcomplicating it. Most would see it an insanity. He looked back to Maple as he put the finishing touches in securing Shae’s positions to her(?) Then he straightened. “Well, I suppose we should get going if we’re to make any progress during the daylight.”

((Trying and failing. Miserably.

Ohyeah. Guess what? I got an A on my parallel parking test (today was my first day trying and I got four practice times and then the test). I beat all the people who had done it before!! >D Beware my ego! Ahahahaa!))

Chver horses didn't wear bridles. They didn't have bits and their saddles looked comparitively flimsy and thin in comparison with those of other kingdoms. But each saddle was made by the rider and made perfectly to fit against both the horse's and the human's bone structure. So instead of taking the non-existent reigns, Shae merely ran a hand up to rest lightly in his horse's silky black mane and began to lead it alone.

"Yes, let's," he replied, choosing not to reply to the first comment. "Lead the way, if you would."

((If you've ever read 'The Blue Sword,' the riding style is like that.))

Leif did not stop to ponder the difference between his riding equipment and Shae’s. After all, Shae was a goddess, whereas he was a mere mortal nipping at her heels. His horse, however, spoke of a man a lot less submissive than he behaved towards the one he courted. If there ever was a snow white horse that appeared sinister beyond reason, it was this one, as his muscles bulged in sinewy lumps, his eyes shone with a certain hint of darkness, and his size alone was impressive as he bore the ornate saddle and banner of the Torvald household. It was obvious that he was a warhorse, as it was riddled with scars and held itself with a proud stance that would make even seasoned warriors a bit hesitant to approach it.

The Prince of Solveig, however, had no problem. He walked right up to the stallion and patted his muzzle in a display of brotherly affection. “And this is Gunther. Say hello Gunther.” The horse snorted, and Leif leaned in to whisper in its ear, something barely audible, but somewhere close to “this is my future wife, the Princess of Chver.” Introductions over, he hefted himself up and took his reigns before he gestured to the west. “We’ll head over that mountain there.”

Shae gave the horse the once-over, a placid smile on his lips (although his eyes were desidedly on the cool point. It was rather obvious he didn't aprove much of matters such as war). "Pleased to make your aquantance," he replied and gave the horse a small curtsy.

He watched with some small amount of interest as Leif mounted his horse. It seemed so... clubsy by comparison. Sort of... clunky, he supposed. Now, Maple was by no means a short horse. She was, in fact, very tall - Chver's royal horses were bred as such. Yet, in less than a moment, Shae was on top. It wasn't quite clear how he'd done it - some sort of leap or something, one hand rested on the horse's back. But studdenly he was there, sitting comfortably.

Shae nodded and nudged Maple forward a bit to draw level with Gunther. She barely twitched an eye at him.

Despite his gruff appearance, Gunther was the softhearted sort, and didn’t make any trouble - not that anyone expected him to. Leif didn’t find his way clumsy at all, but secure and sturdy, the same as he was. There were all sorts of riders in Solveig, and he thought little of the way the Chver horse was handled, other than enjoying Shae’s grace with the animal. He felt as though he should say something regal and awe-inspiring, but that was obviously not his strong suit. And so he simply began to ride, making certain to remain slow enough until it was certain they were both on the same wavelength. Speeding up and playing could come later, he assumed, since he wasn’t used to this whole courtship business.

((Cammy, your av is le sex. <33))

To say that Shae was a good rider was an understatement. He was an excellent rider, in all aspects. In fact, he had grown rather bored with the steady pace after some time, but was (for the moment, at least) too polite to mention it. This was Chver and senery he was most deffinately aquanted with. It was lovely, yes, and the weather was truly splendid, but it wasn't new. It wasn't what he was seeking.
