Well on a otherwise stock engine it's a bit overkill.
A bit of an update on plans for the mustang.
So, it turns out it's rather hard to find a decent T-5 around here... which, as you can imagine, tweaks my nose.
Soooo... I'm going to have to order one off the interwebz... from SummitRacing.com. I actually feel safer doing this considering it's going to be a new transmission from Ford Racing... plus, if it has problems I know who to nail for those problems... anyway, as you can guess, this is NOT a cheap venture... well... not for a high-school student at least :/. The tranny's going to cost about $1,300 to buy, probably a hefty sum more to ship and have it installed. I would install it but I don't have to tools to do so, plus, I'd rather the professional's do it. So, that's about $2,000 there in parts, shipping, and labor. >_< Yeah, you can imagine how I felt about that one. Oh well, performance parts are never cheap. So, that puts a bit of a crimp on my wallet to get the fuel injection system...
Soooooo... it looks like I'll be doing some other performance pieces first. The rears are going to be swapped for a slightly lower gear ratio so that the manual trans. along with the motor can actually turn the gears. Also, I'm going to be getting a 302 crank, rods, and pistons to basically make my 289 a stroker 302. I've heard 351 heads can swap onto a 289 with a little modification, but, that's a bit out of my price range. The headers are still going to be bought along with having them still modified at a shop so they can be capped/ uncapped depending on whether I'm racing or not.
So, the engine will actually be a little more modified than originally thought.
The fuel injection system will be coming sometime next year, probably during the summer. I may drop it to around 750cfm, but, deffinetly not all the way down at 400. But, like I said, the biggest reason why I'm looking to run with the Edelbrock system is because, unlike a lot of the other fuel injection systems I've looked at, their's doesn't require a laptop to callibrate it or anything. It is ready to go as soon as you install it, basically. Plus, I certainly want a fuel inejction system because they give more power outright compared to carburetors, and also, provide better fuel mileage. I've heard that if you're light on the pedal, a 289 can get upwards of 20mpg, not bad for 40 year old technology. I'll probably be looking at 15-18mpg on a light foot.
Anyway, that's an update on the plans for the mustang.
