Ick your mom does need to be more supportive altho I agree with some on this that she is afraid that you'll end up not making it as a bum or somthing. Well my mom says all the time "Josh, I should have never bought that dreded thing!" I play all kinds of metal music and stuff she HATES! it sooooo much shes a 50's and 60's chick none the less when my band was together she came to our shows and sat threw them. My dad loves it though he's a strait metal head listens to me all the time.

where do we go? the distance of our travels confuse me...
my parents are old soul/r&b folks, so they HATE that i play mostly rock and metal.
as far as supportive, they are. they brag about me to friends, apparently, since i've been playing 3 years and apparently I'm really good.
and as far as me going on the road and all that, they tell me " as long as you have that college degree in your hand, i don't care WHAT you do.
so i guess after i graduate from college, i'll go and start a real band and try to make it big :3 It's okay. Just hold my hand... and i swear everything will be all right...

Are you kidding? My mom's the one who totally suprised me out of the blue by getting me a guitar for christmas and telling me how it's her life goal that I'll play like East Bay Ray someday. surprised She used to play some bass. She could play the Barny Miller theme song. whee
As far as my dad's concerned, he doesn't know anything about me much less that I play guitar. Haven't heard from him since I was 7. I guess he'd probably be proud of his kid, he played too. Actually before Korn came out, he and his friends played in our old basement and called themselves Corn.

My parents encourage me alot. A little too much...>.> Whenever I'm playing and my mum comes in the room she'll do like a dance or bang her head... redface I'm just like ".........." My dad wants to get me a guitar as much as I want to get one but my mom said I have to learn 5 songs... I already have a long time ago but I dont have the guitar in my hands yet.....
But my dad and mom listen to basicly the same stuff I do so they dont mind what I play.

My parents are kinda like yours. My mom doesn't really support my music. She'll listen when I make something up that sounds good, and she'll listen to my bands song when we record a new one, but that's about it.
My dad just gives criticism ALL the time. Everything I do wrong, he tells me. It's not even constructive criticism, it's just mean. I never get a, "good job!" from my parents.
They told me that I shouldn't focus on my music so much, and that I should start looking for a job, even though I make more than they do just by playing my music...
So yeah.
I don't listen to them, because if I ever do make it, or get fairly big, I want to rub it in their faces.

Anze So what do your parents say about you playing guitar? What do they think about you possibly "making it big?" My mom isn't so supportive(actually, she's not supportive at all, all she does is b!@#$ about the noise and why I can't play more "soft rock" crap on the local "soft rock radio station"), mainly because she doesn't like the music I play and my dad makes no comment but he knows I'm working at it... It's fine if they said nothing at all, but what really got me was that my mom told me that I had no talent on it and that really pissed me off seeing that I work so hard on it. Doesn't even want me to go professional either! Grr... Doesn't even want to support me in trying to "make my dreams come true." According to her, I'm "normal. You have no talent, you're not smart, you can't do anything, so you're better off doing normal things."(direct quote) That pisses me off so much... I can already imagine what I'm going to say in the "Thanks to:" notes in the album booklet in the future: "Thanks to all of my friends who supported me and the band, but no thanks to my unsupportive mom." >/ I'll shove it in her face too, that's how pissed off I get about this... But enough about me, what about you guys? >.< Thats messed up. Your mom is a straight out $@#%!. Don't listen to her. It doesn't matter whether you got talent or not, like they say, "Practice makes perfect." So never give up on your dreams just because someone tells you that you got no talent. wink As for my parents, they support me all the way. I was lucky to get parents that like Alternative Rock and Metal. smile

Well, my mom paid for all my lessons, and my dad loves that I can play(i don't live with him so he thinks i am raeally good). My grandpa bought my two guitars, my amp, and my pedal. My family loves that I can play. Except when they are trying to watch a show and I start picking at my guitar, then they tell me to either stop or go to another room.

My mom won't get me an electric until I get honor roll at at school. So I'm stuck on a cheap acoustic guitar until that happens. See, I know I'm smart, but she thinks I'm find-the-cure-for-cancer smart, which I'm not. And I go to a school with really high standards, and at any other school my grades would have gotten me on high honor roll. (I'm an A/B student. But there's always one teacher that ******** me up.)

They're just happy that I CAN play.
My Dad was a really shitty drummer in multiple Country and Classic Rock bands, and my Mom is not musically inclined whatsoever.
When I got my first guitar, I surprised both of them by starting to play... and continuing.
