Zaphiro had been about to comment on the crack about talking to himself when Yue's completely bizarre reaction to a simple bird brought him up short...only to hear her 'explanation' and give her a look of sheer incredulosity. At least, that's what it had been until he realized that she was serious, at which point he started to chuckle. Birds? Afraid of birds because of what birds did naturally? Next thing she'd say was that she was afraid of bugs.
He was still chuckling when she delivered her disclaimer, one that he found himself seriously doubted. Safi wouldn't have stuck aaround if he thought he was a nuisance, not if there were those around that he REALLY liked. And from the sound of it, he really liked Selene and her daughter; but logically, he wouldn't have been willing to show off HIS daughter if that wasn't the case anyway. But still... "Well, if you've decided that, then don't worry about me mentioning anything. It's not often I know something he doesn't."
Which was also true.

"And why are you laughing at me, hmm?" she growled, drawing her haughty armor around herself. "One cannot fault a mare for being defensive at the possibility of bird droppings. I for one, find it particularly distasteful, and have no interest in the sensation!"
She looked down her nose at him as he spoke, accepting his comment with a mild sniff.

She was either pulling his leg or was actually offended, or maybe something of both. But Zaphiro couldn't get rid of the smile. "I'm sorry, Yue, but your reaction was so pronounced...it was just too amusing to ignore. Don't you often encounter birds while flying?"
He didn't comment on the droppings angle, wisely concluding that there were unpleasant memories attached to that statement. And even complete immersion in a pool of water wasn't like to make her forget the sensation...so, different topic! "How long have you personally know Safi, Yue?"

She sniffed, tossing her head. "I encounter them. And when I get the chance, I fly above them. Let THEM feel the fear. Though I would NEVER do.... THAT while flying. You could hit someone, and then there'd be a HUGE mess. Figuratively and literally."
"As for Safi..." she shrugged. "I don't know. I don't think he and mom knew each other too horribly long, but I think they're very close. I don't even remember exactly WHEN I met him. But I remember how." How could she forget? Her mother to the side, looking miserable, and Safi talking to her like an adult? "I remember I'd never had anyone talk to me quite like that. A grown-up, who could understand my frustrations. I really admire him for it. I treated him poorly. Still do, actually, but I think he knows it's more affection now than annoyance." she smiled.

Zaphiro nearly choked on her denial. A mare even TALKING about that was...well, out of the ordinary. Definitely a subject best laid to rest. So instead, he focused on the other.
Which was actually easy to talk about. He wasn't surprised that Safi had made a good impression on the foal; he just seemed to have that mentality that drew kids to him. "Knowing Safi, he probably baits you as much as you bait him. Or worse, depending on his mood. I suppose he has all sort of mangling nicknames for you and your mother, or at least you, right? You heard him refer to me earlier, I assume, and I can tell you that it's not a stretch to think that he calls EVERYONE he knows by some bizarre moniker."
It was at about that point when Zaphiro finally realized how much talking they'd been doing about Safi. Well, apparently some things were just too interesting to drop! "And I hope I'm not boring you with my questions, it's just that Safi and I used to be very close friends but haven't seen each other in months."

She shook her hjead. "No, not at all." she smiled. "I haven't known him very long, I don't think, but he's made a very strong impression. Though soon it'll be your turn to share stories. And YES! Mom is Sely, and for some reason, he's always calling me brat, and always gets my proper name wrong! I don't know what's wrong with him." she tsk'd, and sank further down in the water, until her nose and eyes were peeking out, and her hair floated asound her head in a pool. Then she started towards Zaphiro, blowing bubbles through her mouth. She couldn't help it! It made her feel like a water monster, so....
Why not play around? Wasn't that what water was for?

"That sounds like Safi; he'd find a nickname for someone with a name of one syllable, no doubt about it."
Zaphiro's eyes were on the mare now, one brow quirked in skepticism as he tried to figure out what she was doing. Was she swimming about in an odd fashion, or was she-
No, she was NOT going to do what he suspected she might plan on doing; they were adults who behaved in a mature fashion. But on the safe side... "Yue, you had better not-"

A stream of bubbles was Yue's response as she swam closer, weaving through the body, body shifting side to side. She looked like a brightly colored water snake, if one looked right. As it was, though, she just looked silly.
But it was with a sense of amusement that she pulled out of the water just enough to spray him. "Don't what?" she said innocently.

Water trickled down Zaphiro's face, over closed eyelids and down to drip into the spring. So much for 'don't even think about it'.
But when the stallion's eyes opened, the look in them wasn't angry, it was...amusement? "That's it, mare, you're going down!" And then he was spreading his wings and sending a wave of water over the mare, or rather the part that was above water.

She gave a squeal and ducked back down, coming up out of the water and splashing back down, sending up a geyser of water. She wriggled about while she was at it, sending up waves all over the place, and hurrying to see how far away she could get. Water battles at close range were very, very bad things!

If Zaphiro had been the same stallion he'd been before he came to this herd, he would have by now backed off, content that the first splash had proved his point, and consequently preserved his dignity. But after being around his herdmates...a few things had rubbed off.
Like a strong desire for revenge.
Ducking low against the water, Zaphiro's eyes followed the multi-colored mare as she swam, paddling after her swiftly. Throwing his size into the equation, it wasn't long before he was right beside her, grinning. "You weren't thinking of getting away after that, were you, Yue?" And then he reached out, fully intent on dunking her underwater with a wing.

And she went under, with a displeased gurgle and eyes promising retribution. "Glub glub! Glub glub!" she protested, trying to be careful enough with her horn that she didn't stab him in the wing, but struggling to get away. She hadn't had time to get that last deep breath!
If there was one thing Yue Shuang could grasp, it was that desire for revenge. And by the time she would probably manage to struggle out from under the heavy wing, her eyes would be blazing with it. She started it, darnit, she would be the one to finish it, or drive them both to the edge of exhaustion trying!

Success! Grinning maddeningly, Zaphiro was no sooner sure that his dunk had been successful before he was paddling away rapidly. Even a timid mare would likely have been annoyed at the presumption of that gesture, even though he never would have dreamed dunking a timid mare or any mare that hadn't provoked him first. Therefore he had a strong hunch that he'd be on the receiving end of some revenge, unless she was the sensible sort who realized she'd gotten what she deserved.
Though those eyes as she'd gone under...yeah, he was just going to get out of reach.

His wing was off, and she was up, shooting out of the water and paddling after him. "RRRRRRRRRRRR." was her constant noise, except when she had to take a breath. And when she would get closer, the first thing she would do? Attempt to catapault just enough out of the water to land on his back, and push him down into the water. See how long he could run away with her on his BACK!

Zaphiro nealy burst out laughing as he swam across the spring. She wasn't giving up, obviously, but what was up with that noise? It sounded like a little foal playing boat, or trying to imitate a bear or something. Definitely didn't sound much like a growl, if that's what it was supposed to be, or was it a roar?
Either way, he suddenly felt that he'd had enough of swimming. Kicking off the bottom of the spring as he neared the edge, the dark blue stallion leapt up onto the shore and whirled to face the paddling mare. Who knew what she had up her sleeve?
