((Yes. wink ))
She pulled open the door, and frowned to see no son there, no one at all in fact. Shelves, brooms, cleaning supplies. Her scowl was deep as she snapped the door shut tight, beleiving that those disrespectful little whelps had tried to insult and embarress her again. ((Aside: yes, she doesnt' know left from right. Odd little thing. There is a reason for it. And Yamazaki only knows because he's traveled enough to learn the concept.))
Furious, she continued on to the next door down the hallway, yanking it open with more anger and speed than she would have used otherwise. That woman seemed to really have gotten to her.
================================================
And, Yamazaki sat in the room, rocking Isys back and forth, waiting for the axe to fall. She should have been her by now. Unless the kids decided to toy with her. He rolled his eyes, hoping that Cody, or Ri, or the others, hadn't cause too much trouble.

(*giggle, snort* OMG, this is beautiful. xDDDD)
Having finally calmed Darwin down, Ri returned to frowning, staring puzzledly at the closed front door. She could sense the inside, at least vaguely, and somehow this definitely didn't feel right. "Cody, you did say he was in the study, right?"
"You did, but yeah." The Tenjutsu nodded, glancing up as he ruffled Darwin's hair gently. His cousin still seemed rather angry, but it had subsided to a faintly irritated glower in the direction of the woman.
"It's still the second door on the left, isn't it? Syblin and Rune didn't change things around again?"
"Nah, Mom doesn't mess with the downstairs, she knows we get too many visitors." Cody raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Because something should have happened by now." Hands on hips, the Water Slider blinked and choked on a faint laugh. "And I think she just opened the broom closet."
========================
Inside the second doorway was what appeared to be a library or secondary study; slightly smaller than Rune's, its walls had also been lined with bookshelves, while a small fire burned brightly in the fireplace to the right. A quintet of young men and women were playing a card game at the table in the center of the room, while a green-haired girl sat calmly in an overstuffed chair, a mystery book open on her lap. She glanced up at the woman with interest, head tilted slightly to one side. "Hello." She spoke softly, politely. "Can I help you?"

((Yeah yeah, tease the woman from another culture...))
Yes, something should have happened. The Magesmith felt that clearly as he got up out of his seat, and started pacing back and forth. She should be here by now. What was the wait? He didn't want to go looking for her. In fact he hoped that she just walked away. He feared that instead she was loose, causing trouble.
Conflict drove him to pace faster as he kept glancing at the door, wondering if he should look for her, or hope she just wanders off.
================================================
"No, I don't think you can," she said cooly, and slammed the door back as she stomped into the hallway. She was fuming. Her hands were curled up into fists, and it seemed again like her power was building up, ready to start tearing holes in walls should it come to that. Sure, if she was thinking clearly she could have just located her son's mind and homed in on it, but she was PISSED and anything but clearly thinking.
She whirled, and opened up the next door she found, right across from the one she had just opened, nearly ripping it off the hinges in her frustration and anger.

- and found what appeared to be a large bedroom, obviously a guest room from the look of it, utterly tidy. And empty of life, save the single girl standing in the center of the room facing the door, arms spread and head tilted slightly back, eyes closed. Tanned and lean, she dressed simply enough, a common pair of jeans and a deep blue shirt stenciled with a black flower across the chest; the hair cascading down just past her shoulders tumbled in chestnut waves. Jagged purple energy flared in arches around her outstretched limbs like slowed lightning.
As the door opened, she blinked and lowered her arms a bit, gray eyes and alto voice hopeful. "Did I make it?"
A soft sound from behind signaled the library door closing, and the green-haired girl poked her head into the new room from behind Yamazaki's mother. "Almost, Rip." Her tone came soothing and kind. "You made it back to the house, anyway. But you're downstairs. And you brought the room with you."
"Oh, cat dirt." The girl - Rip, apparently - looked disappointed, glancing around herself before blowing out a frustrated puff of air that fluffed up her bangs. "I'm trying again, then. Close the door, would ya?"
The child nodded and gently closed the wooden slab, then glanced up at Yamazaki's mother. This woman had eyes she'd seen before, but where? Not family, or she'd have either recognized the magehouse or had an escort. Still, there was something about her.
OH! "Are you looking for Mister Yamazaki, m'am?" She asked quietly.
(*snicker* The green-haired girl is Rune's daughter Aura.)

One deep breath, then again. Quickly she was back in control. Though a smoldering anger did demand she return later, to exact an appropriate revenge from the woman, Ri.
She looked down, the cool, detatched mask back on her face. She was the Matriarch again. In control, and someone that expected respect from those around her.
"My son, yes I am," she said, her voice soft, kind, though in that condescending manner that many people spoke to children with. Her mind reached out, one of her softer touches, though it was still invasive, peering into this woman's mind, and prying forth information. Mostly things like Names, who she's related to and how, where her son was, and a few other people of interest to her. ((Such as Isys and Rune... ninja ))

The fair-skinned child raised one green eyebrow, just slightly, looking a bit surprised. A moment later, and the image of a door appeared at the forefront of the woman's probe, tactfully but firmly shut tight to bar her mind from further entry. "That's not very nice, m'am." Her soft voice was completely calm, still utterly polite. "And I could tell you everything you wanted to know anyway. My name is Aura Willow Traverse - my mother runs the Center here, her name is Rune Traverse. You met my brother Cody, some of my cousins and my Aunt Ri outside. Mister Yamazaki is here, he's one of Mom's very good friends."
Gently, she tugged at the woman's sleeve, bringing her to the study door and taking the knob. "He's in this room, m'am. The left, not the right."

Little snot nosed... she was tempted just to try blasting down the doorway. But, as the kid started speaking, it probably wasn't worth the effort, or the trouble it might cause.
Instead, she gave a thin, polite smile to the kid, and a nod of her head as she reached for the doorway, "I would like to meet your mother, please send her as soon as she is free."
With that, she opened the door...
Yamazaki's eyes snapped up, hearing the door open, his green eyes locking with his mother's own. So similiar, they stood there, staring at each other silently. The magesmith's face twisted in anger, and the mother, the mother just starting to smile.
This mental duel continued for a minute, before the mother finally blinked and broke the contact.
You've been practicing. she sent out to him.
Well, yeah, with all these damned telepaths around I've had reason... he thought to himself, though it was kept from his mother's reach. Instead he merely started to smile to himself, waving her over towards a chair.
"Have a seat, and speak like a civilized person," he said, reminding his fairly trim and proper mother that such a used of telepathy as she normally stood by was hardly proper. And that brought a slight frown to her face.
"Is that..."
"Yes, she is," he said, finally looking down to Isys in his arms, giving her a little smile as he moved her about so she would be sitting up in his arms, rather than laying down. The face peered out across the hall at the new Grandmother, and the little Tenjutsu regarded her with the same simple smile she used with everyone.

"Yes m'am." Aura agreed cheerfully, poking her head in the door and waving her fingertips at Isys. "Would you like something to snack on, Yamazaki?" She asked the magesmith, smiling. Like most of her siblings, Aura quite liked Yamazaki, and she made quite an effort not to use telepathy around him as a result. "Aunt Ri says she'll bring Mom as soon as she can get her away from the bast - the nobles."
Well, technically, the Water Slider had commented "as soon as I can drag her away from the idiot bastards nitpicking at everything again," but that didn't much bear repeating.

At the mention of bringing Rune the words "No thanks" died on his lips, and he shot his mother a very evil, very withering glare. Not that it seemed to have any effect on him. Oh, put him on the battlefield with a sword in his hand and those green soldiers would have relieved themselves right then and there.
But to the mother that always saw him as a awkward little child, she just laughed.
"No." The word wasnt' a question, wasn't an answer. It was a command. Given with all the steel and authority his decade of leadership had given him.
"But it's only proper..."
"No."
"Now you..."
"No."
Son!
"Go to hell!"
Finally old Norii Yamazaki returned her son's death glare, and hers was much, much worse. It felt oppressive, it threatened to crush him, and leave not a single trace behind.
Myron Adel Yamazaki, you will listen to your mother!
And that was sent out in all directions. Loud enough any telepath worth the title could pick it up blocks away.
"You just behave yourself, Norii," he said. Hell, if she was going to triple name him, then he was going to disrespect her by using her first name.
Isys frowned, all the negativity and yelling getting to her. Her eyes shut, and she twisted about to hide her face in her father's chest, as though that would make it all go away.

Aura squeaked, wincing slightly at the loud mental yell. Good grief, not even her mom yelled that loud - well, okay, not at any of them. For a moment, the child wondered if she should offer to take Isys with her. When the adults decided to be annoying, it probably wasn't a good idea to have a baby in the immediate area.
Before she could make the offer, a gentle hand settled on her shoulder, and Mirelle stalked confidently into the room, Kirika following with a tray on her hip. Cody trailed behind his older sisters with a wide grin. "Myron?" He stage-whispered, eyes sparkling with laughter at Yamazaki. Mirelle gave her little brother a discreet elbow in the ribs, raising an eyebrow in a silent 'be nice' gesture; Cody just snickered. "Myron Adel."
"Cody Lokali, shut up." The blonde flashed a dark look over her shoulder, causing the youth to snap his mouth shut, still grinning blithely. Kirika ignored both with an ease that suggested long practice, setting the loaded tray on the small table between the magesmith and his mother. It had obviously been made up for tea, complete with steaming pot, full sugar and cream pitchers, several cups and an assortment of light snacks. Turning to Norii, the young woman bowed slightly. "Sent with Mother's compliments, miss Yamazaki. She apologizes for the wait."
Flicking her gaze to the magesmith, Kirika's face returned to its usual shy smile. "We can take Isys with us if you'd like, Yamazaki." She offered quietly. It was clear she adored the infant just as much as her own younger siblings.

As Cody said his name, Yamazaki was quick enough to give him a death glare of his own. It wasn't his name. He didn't like it, he didn't use it. Only his mother ever called him that. And she only just barely got away with it.
Finally he shook his head at Kirika, "Thanks... but she should meet her Grandmother. Maybe after the first round, eh?" He gave her a weak little smile. He wouldn't have minded letting Isys go, but well, he did have a duty as a son to and a father here.
He patted Isys softly, making a low, quiet noise in the back of his throat, almost like a purr as he calmed down his little girl.
She murmured something softly, and curled up a little more, head still buried in her father. He slowly peeled her away again though to face her Grandmother.
Isys gave her an odd little look. Almost frowning at her, but still staring right at her forehead.
Norii sighed, taking the moment's distraction to regain her calm, and put that smile back on her face. She could see the eyes, and the hair. So much like her father. There was little question of the relation. Though he still wondered who the mother was. Probably one of those random bimbos that loved military types.
She smiled softly at Isys, leaning in towards her, and reaching out to her mind with a much softer touch than she had used on anyone else today.

Kirika nodded, gently stroking the infant's shoulder with her fingertips before flashing Yamazaki an encouraging smile. Her twin echoed the expression with a brighter, more confident grin - she obviously sided with the magesmith, regardless of the battle before. Or perhaps, because of it, and the 'together time' of the holidays that had followed. Gods knew, she respected the man, and Mirelle didn't respect many people. "Mom should be back in a few. She had to bust a few heads - "
" - wrap up a few things." Kirika interjected, one brow rising as she looked intently at her sister. The blonde ignored it easily; only a slightly broader curve to her lips indicated her amusement. "Like I said." Her voice came casual, deliberately ignoring Norii's contact with Isys, even though she had to force herself to do it. This baby could take care of herself, and her dad was more than capable of handling things. Interfering wouldn't help much - yet. Tilting her head to one side, Mirelle added blithely, "Council's having fits again, and they're insisting on not listening to Cait because she's younger than the rest. So Mom went to back her up and make a few points clear."
Hey, if this lady thought her mother was a pushover, it couldn't hurt to hint otherwise, could it? No need to mention that the fits from the council were over Isys and Steve, or that Cait's argument that the kids were just fine where they were - and that she'd kick the a** of anyone who tried to make it otherwise - were falling on deaf ears. Sometimes, as Caitlyn had pointed out, being a teacher was a pain. It meant she couldn't simply use superior power to force things her way. Which meant, among other things, that some of the idiot council members tended to forget she HAD the power to back up her credentials, regardless of age.
Cody's eyes were still dancing with glee, though his gaze between the tall woman and little Isys still vibrated with careful watchfulness. She was Yamazaki's mother, fine; he could deal with that, and it did mean she was at least semi-trustworthy, at least for the moment. Still, there was no doubt in in the Trickster Tenjutsu's mind where his loyalties lay. Yamazaki himself was the one that had proven enough to be an 'uncle,' with all the respect and devotion that family tie entailed. Stevie might as well have been Cody's little brother, and Isys - well, Isys was not only special as a Tenjutsu, she was special as Yamazaki's baby girl, Stevie's sister, and one of the sweetest, coolest kids he knew. If this mind-mage decided to hurt them, any of them . . .
. . . well, she'd find out pretty quick just how many friends her son had in this realm. And that there was more behind Cody's joker attitude than a pretty face.

Yamazaki rolled his eyes. "Nothing good comes out of commitees..." he muttered, and at that, even Norii nodded slightly in agreement. It was true. Especially where they came from.
With that, he rested his hands on Isys's shoulders, holding her gently, and rocking her back and forth just slightly. His eyes were glued downward, at her hair, and he was humming an old song to her. Definately sounded 'classical', more like it'd be part of a symphony rather than some pop song or folk music.
Isys was blinking slowly as she felt out that mental tap on her mind, her eyes darting around, trying to 'see' where it was coming from, or what it was. It was still there though. Tapping at her mind. Not really doing anything. It didnt' hurt. Didn't overwhelm him like that flood the other kids had to face.
Norii smiled just a little, getting up out of her chair to cross the room, kneeling down next to the babe. Her hand reached up, one finger extended... and he gave her a little Nose Beep.
That brought a smile to Isys's face, and little gurgling baby laugh. Projected both vocally, and as a crude Empath.
"Good, good..." Norii whispered, leaning in and kissing her on Isys's forehead, "Seems your father's stupidity hasn't stopped you..."
