{THE DICTIONARY}

Summer was starting to show up, the weather had considerably got warmer. Mellifee pushed the frontdoor to get out, carrying a sleeping bag and a basket. It contained a small bottle of water, a few snacks, a blanket for Palissandra who was accompaning her, and a dictionary. The latter was the present she got from Ebony for her birthday, it wasn't a children edition but a fully-fledge dictionary, quite thick and heavy. There was of course, a children dictionary for Mellifee's usage when she was studing, as the bee girl was still very young. However this new book was a source of endless fascination, she liked to skim through it, stopping when she found pictures and illustrated plated or to read the definition of words she was familiar with or that caught her attention somehow.

Today she decided to sleep in the open, in her gardening spot. Ebony had no objections, the gardens were perfectly safe and the nights now were warm enough so she was sure Mellifee wouldn't catch a cold by staying outside. So she only told her to come back if it started to rain.

The bee girl trotted happily to her destination. Now she no longer needed the scooter. It had became a bit small since she grew up but more importantely her thick white skin had finally shed and she was now feeling as light as bird. She still felt a little strange because of the transformation but she was getting accustomed to it quickly. She definitely didn't regret her old self, which had been quite okay until her skin started to itch badly, but now she had a smooth skin, except for her limbs that were partially furry that made her look like she was wearing glowes and legwarmers. Her sense of touch had quite developped too, the rough patches of a tree truck, the soft finess of a petal, the texture of paper or fabric or even the wetness of water and the cool of the wind, she couldn't felt them with such precision before. Her tail wasn't segmented like before however it became striped, her antennae grew and her new wings had earn the admiration of the fairies. So everything was a great improvement as far as she was concerned.

Both girl and suagr fairy finally reached the garden which was illuminated by a soft glow. The light was coming from a giant lamp-like flower, which was what the strange seed Bug gave Mellifee produced. Thanks to it, she hadn't the need to bring a torch and also it made her garden corner really pretty. The light also attracted various nocturnal insects that were dancing around it.

Mellifee put down the basket and settled the sleeping bag and on the ground and also spread the purple blanket on which Palissandra softly landed. Mellifee took the dictionary, put it between her and the fairy and then opened it. Pallissandra was also a book lover, she was usually a bit shy and a loner but since they shared a common interest, she had gotten closer to Mellifee and they were often reading stories together. They spent some time exploring through the jungle of words and images, until Pallissandra started to feel sleepy. Mellifee carefully tucked the little one in the blacket and got back to the dictionary. She turned the pages until she reached the letter X.

XYZ... Since they little words starting from these letters, Mellifee usually looked at all the words. Most of them she never heard such as and their meanings remained quite obscur, though she came across iteresting finds such as xeranthemum - Mellifee had thought to plant some of these flowers here and Ebony said she would find her the seeds.

Her attention was drawn to the word 'xylophon', a word she was familiar with, there was one at home. This new dictionary had also the etymology of words, which she liked to read, they were always interesting. Xylophon was a combinaison of two roots, 'xylo' meaning wood and 'phon' the sound. In some of the following words, she had noticed that the greek word for wood was actually 'xylon'.

Mellifee yawned, her head was starting to get heavy with sleep. She shouldn't sit up too late. Her dragon was going to come tomorrow...

She put back the book in the basket before falling asleep. Xylon...

{RAMBLINGS AT NIGHT}

Ebony Dragon
Still haven't a clue about Ethan whereabouts (Or Omma but then.. this isn't someone I look forward to meet.) But I managed to found about [name is written in foreign language], [name is written in foreign language] and [name is written in foreign language]. My offsprings... or sort of. It's like the story of the egg and the hen, who really came first? I recalled they were the ones that took care of me for a year when I got reborn on Terra.

I might not have found what I was looking for but on the other hand things keeps unravelling. And this place is always a breath of fresh air. The realm of the fairies is one of these places were time passed by peacefully and seems almost unchanging, especially since the fairies don't really age. But some of the kids do grow however, like Mellifée. I might not feel much more motherly than before, but being a big sister turns out to be quite nice after all, she is just like another of the fairies, just bigger in size.

The one thing I am dreading is the day she will get to adulthood and No I'll better not think about this for now.

I'm still miffed at these D-Corpers for blackmailing me. Couldn't they have used another approach. Well... I may have refused an human child but since she is.. no maybe...

This is getting too confusing. I should go to bed.

{SHOPPING DAY}

(writing in progress)

Ebony had to admit it, it was after all not so terrible to come to the city to shop. Well from time to time at least. She realized it was probably the presence and constant cheerfulness of her bee protegee that made the trip pleasant.

Moreover now that the Mellifee had completed her transformation from pupa to bee, she was in need of new clothes. So far she had worn the clothes Ebony sewed her, but the dragon thought it was maybe time to let the bee girl choose her clothes so they had been dressing the windows. Mellifee picked a few frocks, a plain green dress, another one that was a jean overalls dress with some floral patterns and last but not least, a pink and green strawberry dress that had immediately caught her attention. She had let out a loud "CUTE!" that had startled an old lady who was shopping with her grandson and made a few other heads turned around. She seems very happy about that particular purchase and had been excitely capering about since they came out the shop.

After that, they had taken a break at a cake shop - the sight of the strawberry dress had made Ebony wanting some parfait - before heading to Jerry and Berry's Wonder Garden, a store selling gardening tools as well as plants and seeds. Ebony was an acquaintance of the owners, a middled-aged couple. Their wares was of highest quality and Jerry was also know to be quite a craftsman when it came to making ornaments and custom tools, so the dragon girl was sure Mellifee would find what she was looking for here.

The bee had been literally bugging Ebony to buy her ??? seeds, it was a new breed she had read about in one of the gardening magazines she was suscribed to. She bought a bag of seeds from the counter and asked if she could have at the rest of the store. Ebony nodded and told her buy her anything else she might want since it was not often that they mad this kind of trip and herself went to admire the garden ornaments.

An Unexpected Call

It seems D-Corp has contacted you and told you to bring your child in for a check up immediately. Very little information was given to you over the phone other than the fact that it was critical that they be brought in as soon as possible.

Once at D-Corp you are directed to Dr. Acklin's office. He's running about writing things down and clicking away at some keyboards. Once he notices you he seats you and your child down immediately to take a blood sample.

The sample is run right away in the back of the office the doctors face in the computer screen the whole while. After almost an hour of being told to wait patiently the test results are finally done and you are told you are free to leave. No information is given as to why you were so urgently called in however you were assured that your child is perfectly healthy and that there is no reason for alarm.

{Class}

Botanic Dragon Info

Perilas_Coleman
Peri paced the front of the classroom as he stared at the empty chalkboard. Unfortunately, no one knew anything about these dragons and he hadn't found anything in any of his books. It was some sort of plant-type, he knew that much. Oh well, he'd probably learn something from the girl and he could make some guesses as to the nature of the dragon.

Ebony Dragon
Mellifee went through the hallway until she spotted the right room number, her dragon following her lazily. She turned and beckoned to the dawdling dragon. "Faster Xylon! And don't forget to say hello too when we'll go in."

The bee girl was eager to attend this special class, she was always happy to learn more about dragons as she wanted to raise hers as best as possible . When she told Xylon about it, the dragon had nodded amiably, though to be honest, he could have done without this "classes" thing. The plant dragon wasn't that partial to indoors. The smell of the building here made him slightly nauseous. At home at least, the floors and walls were wooden and even so he generally prefered to stay outside, basking in sun or perched on a tree. But since Xylon was very attached to Mellifee and understood the classes were important to her friend he had come without making a fuss.

Mel knocked at the door and entered the room. The man inside seemed vaguely familiar... Ah yes, he was the instructor who was in charge of the egg tour. She smiled at him: "Hello... er I'm Mellifee and this is Xylon, we came for the dragon class." The dragon observed the teacher for an instant and then let out a strange gurgling sound as a greeting.

Perilas_Coleman
Peri grinned at the young girl who entered, her interesting dragon tagging along behind. "Hello. I'm Mr. Coleman, you may remember me from the egg tour." He paused for a moment. "Usually I open the class asking if you've got questions about your dragon, however..." The man frowned for a second. "However, we don't know much of anything about your dragon's breed. As you can see, it's a plant-type and I can make some guesses as to what you might be able to expect, but they'll just be guesses. Mainly, I'd like for you to tell me what you do know about your dragon. You're the expert in this case."

Ebony Dragon
This took Mellifee by surprise. She had somewhat expected that that coming to class meant having the teacher tell her things, but now it looked more like she had to make a report. She nodded. "Allright..." The bee girl looked at the dragon and patted his head. "Well Xylon is very nice dragon, we get along well. Err he... Actually I'm not sure if he is a boy or a girl, but I just call it a "he"."

Taking care of the dragon hadn't posed major difficulties so far. She gave him water and played with him everyday. He mostly took care of the rest by himself. She tried to think what useful information she could give the teacher.

"Xylon likes water and sun. He likes sunbathing especially. And also to climb on trees... Hmm what else?" The dragon came to her help and acted as he was scratching the floor with one of his forepaws .

"Oh yes, he likes soil too. He says sunlight and earth help him to get his food."

Perilas_Coleman
Peri jotted a couple of things down and nodded. "I suspected that a lot of his powers and abilities would fall along a sort of plant aspect. Plants can make their own food by using sunlight as well as water and nutrients from the soil." The man paused and studied the young dragon's appearance for a moment.

"See those buds on his back? I have a feeling that when he gets old enough to start using his abilities, they'll open up and flower out. That's when you'll get to help him. One of the few things we do know is that his breed has to be pollinated. That means that pollen from one flower has to go to another."

Peri didn't know much botany, but this much was fairly simple, at least. "Bees are nature's pollinators, so that's why you were chosen for him. Lots of times, it's the other way around, which is why you got him so early..."

Ebony Dragon
Mellifee nodded as her gaze was directed to Xylon's buds. She had been told bee DNA was chosen because D-Corp needed a child with pollinating abilities to help the dragon, though so far they had remained vague about how she was supposed to pollinate him. But she had started to understand after shedding her pupa skin. Honey bees had hair on their legs which collects the pollen as they visit flowers to gather nectar for making honey. The fur on her limbs had a similar property, pollen was sticking to it, as she was able to notice it during her trips to the garden.

Something in Perilas' words intriged her: "Abilities? His flowers won't just be decorative?"

Perilas_Coleman
Peri shook his head. "No, not entirely. As to what kind of a role they'll play in his powers, I'm not entirely sure. My guess as to his breath weapon attack when he gets older would be lightning, as that's the usual one for earth-type dragons, but his might vary from that. Who knows... we'll see when he gets older, I suppose."

Ebony Dragon
"So you are quite the mystery." Mellifee told the plant dragon, who grinned. She made a mental note to drop by the library later to research about earth dragons and other types as well. Maybe Xylon was different from them, but information about dragons in general might still be useful.

"Do all dragons have a breath attack?" She asked the teacher.

"And.. do fire dragons generally get along well with earth dragons?" Xylon seemed pretty easy-going and Mellifee doubted he would intentionally provoke another dragon into a fight. Though the bee girl felt a little bit concerned about him meeting a fire breathing dragon, due to his vegetal characteristics.

Perilas_Coleman
Peri chuckled at the girl's comment to her dragon, then nodded. "Yes, all the dragons have a breath attack. Some have a fire, some lightning. Some have two, though one is more powerful than the other. It varies from breed to breed."

At her second question, he paused and thought for a moment. "Generally, yes. I believe they do. Most fights between dragons are due to territory. At least in the wild. So it's hard to say, but most of the dragons seem to get along fairly well with each other."

Ebony Dragon
"Oh I see." It was a relief to hear that most dragons get along together.

"Is there anything else that I should know about dragons or the classes? I heard there usually were flight lessons later but what happens when you have a dragon that can't fly?" The plant dragon didn't had wings and it seemed unlikely that he had a power that would had allowed him to get airborne.

Perilas_Coleman
"I've got other classes. There's a few other dragons that can't fly, so I've had to set up something for them. There's also classes where they learn their breath attacks and how to fight." The man smiled. "We'll have plenty to do."

{HUMMING AND BUZZING}

Playdate with Teal

Ebony Dragon
Ebony was remplacing the curtains in the shop. It was time for some redecoration. From the window, she could see Mellifee who was outside. It was hard to believe three full years had already passed since the bee girl had come to live with her. She was five now and was a quite charming little girl.

Mellifee had finished tending the gardens and was now resting in the shade of the oak tree that was located in front of the shop, with the violet fairy Palissandra on her lap. They were reading a book. Xylon the dragon was keeping an eye on them while sitting on one of the lower branches of the tree, his hanging tail swinging from side to side like the pendulum on a grandfather clock.

{BAKING A CAKE}

Mellifee considered the row of Jujubee trees she had planted in her garden corner. The saplings had grown well and it was time to gather the fruit of her labour, that is to say the fruits themselves. There were enough of them to fill a small crate. Mellifee brought it to the kitchen, she had been reading some cooking books lately and thought she tried baking a honey cake. The recipe involved some apple sauce, but the bee girl thought she should experiment a bit by remplacing it with Jujubee sauce, as these particular fruits had a honey-like flesh and she was quite fond of them.

A swarm of fairies followed her as she entered the kitchen and settled on the windowsills. There were mostly honey fairies, some of the cake lovers that dwelled in the kitchen were also fluttering here and there. The soft babbling and the giggling of the fairies started to filled the room. The fairies appreciated Mellifee as she was nice girl and took good care of the gardens with them, the honey fairies especially sort of considered the bee girl as one of them upon learning that her name literaly meant 'Honey Fairy' and was calling her 'Big Fairy Sister'. There had been a full moon the night before and new fairies were born. The eldest of the group started telling them about Mellifee's transformation and she became a 'fairy with wings' while Mellifee was gathering the rest of the ingredients for the cake. She needed eggs, brown sugar, butter, flour and some cinnamon, as well as honey and oranges for the decoration.

The story told by the perspective of a Sugar Fairy was far from being accurate and actually more of a personal interpretation but the enthousiasm of the story teller and the audience that was 'Ooo-ing' opening wide their eyes got a smile from Mellifee. She was pleased that the fairies wanted to try her cooking. It was the first time she was baking a cake on her own though and could used a little help. The resident food expert was summoned, namely Bibiko, who squeaked some advices, translated by the fairies. That created some mess as everyone wanted to do their best and help, and several of the fairies were speaking at the same time but in the end all went well and with Bibiko's instructions the dough was finally completed.

Mellifee poured it in a large cake mold and left it for baking on the oven. The sweet fragrance of honey was starting to exhale in the room and everyone was excited and looking forward to eat the cake. Once it was baked she left it to cool for a while and then topped it with some orange slices and proceed to pour some honey glaze over them.

The fairies clapped as the golden liquid started spreading, covering the cake and turning it into a shiny confection. It tastes good as well and earned positive comments. Xylon didn't ate pastries so Mellifee just reserved a slice to give it to Ebony later. The Jujubee honey cake didn't last very long and the fairies asked if she would bake more cakes which made Mellifee very proud and happy. Afterwards, everyone helped cleaning the kitchen while chatting about possible future recipes.
