Name: I'd prefer to say my name was Quinn, but who names their kid something like that? Not my parents. Rhys.

Age: 17, 18 next month. Woo.

Location:
Cardiff, Wales. It's a country in the UK. I vary between being Welsh and being British depending on the mood.

What you are studying in school: Mostly Chemistry, Biology and Maths, though I study English, Psychology and Spanish. It's the International Baccalaureate...one really crazy course.

Why you are interested in theology:
Why? Not sure really but it stimulates me intelluctually. I've read the Bible a few times, twice (?), now and I have a rather sticky memory. Hence, I can remember a fair few things, which can be pertinent in discussion. I figure, if I can, I should post about these things.

What faith you belong to/what you believe: Well, I was taken to the church across the road from me by my parents since I was young. It was odd. When I was young, they took me for safety- roads are dangerous- but they didn't stay themselves. So I can't say I've had a Christian upbringing at home but I've regularly attended a Baptist Church for a long time now. That said, I consider myself a Baptist, for convenience.

However, I'm not too keen on the whole denominational "tree." While I think it's good for variety, I find it can also be divisive.

Hobbies: When I'm not on the internet, I'll probably be writing, playing computer games or reading, or being a general Know-it-All/Smart Alec.

That's Quinn, folks. ^^

  • Name: Richard, or I self-dubbed myself as "Pseudo-Calvin."
  • Age: 21
  • Location: California
  • What you are studying in school? I am not enrolled in school right now.
  • Why you are interested in theology? I am interested in Christian theology, because after reading the entire Bible, I wished to learn more. But more importantly, I wanted to defend my faith, especially when I was debating with the Mormons here at Gaia. One of the beginning thoughts I began to study in Christian theology was on the Trinity. I've been learning more about it, as well as different thoughts on Christology, such as the Logos and Wisdom Christology. My two main specials in Christian theology are the branches, Christology and soteriology. Both are one side of the same coin.
  • What faith you belong to/what you believe? I would generally consider myself as a Reformed Christian, or, theologically, a Calvinist. It was a difficult thing for me to become, actually, since one of the things I knew about Calvinism was that humans were not the ones who made the choices in being saved or not. It was very difficult, and I even questioned my own beliefs at the time. I eventually became a Calvinist as of when I spoke to a Christian named John Hendryx, owner of Monergism.com and Reformation Theology. I had sent him an e-mail, with five questions. The first question I asked was, "1. What if one is neither a Calvinist or Arminianist?" He replied, "The question isn't whether one is a Calvinist or an Arminian but whether one is a monergist or a synergist." Though he wrote more, that was the crux that forever changed my soteriological beliefs, and from thence, I remain a Calvinist. It was, in a way, as though God had revealed Himself to me, and I was never then against the belief that God saved sinners by grace alone, apart from the will or effort of men! Why else do you think I have made myself the avatar, "John Calvin"? mrgreen
  • Hobbies: Reading, writing commentaries on the Word of God, debating, et cetera.

Celtic Rogue

PostPosted: Mon Apr 02, 2007 2:36 pm

The name is Celtic Rogue- at least the name that I will give.
I am over the age of 20.
And located somewhere on the Planet Earth. I don't think my exact location is necessary.
I am going to major in Wildlife Photography.
Theology interests me because all religions and viewpoints fascinate me. Everyone has there own opinions of what serves them best and works for them. Something will make a certain person feel all comfy and cozy while it confuses another. I enjoy learning and expanding my own knowledge of other beliefs and practices.
As far as a faith, I do not "belong" to any faith. I strongly believe that everything is connected in this world and everything has a flow to it. I have a very strong pull towards nature but do not consider myself a "religious" person.
Hobbies include but are nto limited to Photography, Mythology, Vampires, Anime, The Animal Kingdom, etc.

Name Just call me Joe

Age 20 (soon to be 21)

Location Pan-handle Florida

What you are studying in school I wanna be an engineer, I thpught that getting into something like robotics would eb pretty cool

Why you are interested in theology To be totally honest. I love listening, or in this case reading, to people espouse their ideas on how the world works. who made it? Why? whats gonna happen next? Its like a giant think tank, always fun to listen to new or weird ideas.

What faith you belong to/what you believe Officially I'm a confirmed Catholic, which as far as my faith tells me means I'm not going to hell, not that the rest of you are just because you're not. but on a more personal level i feel more inclined to learn more about some of the eastern religions which i will ashamedly admit i know very little outside of what ever i see in the movies (which I'm sure did a terrible job of represenation) particulaly those of bhuddism where they seek a balance or something along those lines, i'm still trying to learn more

Hobbies I love thinking games, particularly those of strategy like chess, or Axis and Allies, things of those nature. I also enjoy some sports like surfing, or snowboarding, TV and the internet.

A Murder of Angels

I'm Russ, but I go by AMOA on Gaia. I'm currently 23 and living in Utah, very close to Salt Lake City. This is temporary though, as I am somewhat nomadic. I've traveled around much of the US, working at an artisan at Renaissance Festivals, living in a tent and basically existing out of the loop. I grew up in Colorado where I return every summer to be with my friends and family and work at my favourite Renaissance Festival.

I dropped out of college before I ever became Theologically inclined, as I was too immature and impatient for schooling upon finishing High School. I will prolly go back in another year or less... whenever I settle down in one place for an extended period of time. I became interested in the study of religions outside of my own when I was a Wiccan. Studying the origins of Wicca, I became disillusioned with it upon learning that it is basically a constricted faith from only about fifty years ago. I began to study the occult sources that inspired Wicca and settled upon Hermeticism as a personal path. Hermeticism is a mixture of many beliefs from many religions, and it is still actively and rapidly evolving. As part of my studies in Hermeticism I developed an intrest in mythology and religions of all kinds.

Some peole find it strange, but I spend most of my free time studying religion. To me, this is a hobby. I also enjoy photography, and I want to build my photography work into a career. My goal is to be able to sustain myself by traveling the world taking pictures of religious places, people, and ceremonies. I have a little bit of my work online here: http://angelslust.deviantart.com/

Welcome, Murder of Angels!
I don't think it's odd to study religions as a hobby. I met a lot of people in college who were very interested in religion, and it's an important thing to study as most people throughout the world participate in some sort of belief system. It's certainly a great subject to study if you're in any liberal arts field.

Oh, and since you travel around the Renfair circuit, is there any chance that you could be going to the Renfair in Nashville coming up in May? Since you're so far away, I would think this is unlikely, but I just thought I'd ask anyway.

And what sort of things do you make?

Name: Francis J.L. Osborn

Age: 20.

Location: United Kingdom.

What you are studying at university: Single Honours Philosophy.

Why you are interested in theology: Was brought up in the Catholic faith, and took it so far as running Confirmation classes, playing a leading role in the local Catholic youth group and toying with the idea of a vocation at a Catholic priest or missonary. I then began to read more philosophical works and my faith unraveled, having witnessed everything I thought I knew fall into nothing a did a Descartes and denied everything down to the fact of my own existence. I'm building my philosophy up from the roots, now as a secular humanist, but I do still have an enduring interest in world religions.

What do you believe: I believe in the power of the individual to make a difference, and I believe this is usually hindered by self-delusion and lack of liberty.

Hobbies: Whitewater kayaking, mountaineering, hillwaking, shooting and repairing my horribly unreliable car.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 23, 2007 11:43 am

Name: Bill, but you can call me sheep. I find it somewhat unnerving when people I don't know in real life use my name as if they did.

Age: 17

Location: One of the more rural parts of Pennsylvania

What you are studying in school: I'm majoring in electrical engineering, but I'm also taking creative writing and a few other electives.

Why you are interested in theology: I think it's important to know what you believe and why you believe. Otherwise one might go through life full of insecurities and doubts.

What faith you belong to/what you believe: Christianity. What I believe is somewhat complicated for an introductory post.

Hobbies: Debating, rock climbing, fencing, rock climbing, reading, rock climbing, etc.

My name is Brent, but you can call me Charlie.
I am 27.
I live in Michigan.
According to my Degree I know BS about Mechanical Engineering.

I play Hockey in the winter and Golf in the summer. I also like fishing and wake boarding, mountain biking, and playing with electronics.

I was raised being forced to attend a non-denominational church. Hated it. A few years ago I became a Christian, thanks to a few people that were willing to argue, and defend their religion, but still have open minds to my sometimes unanswerable questions. I am interested in theology so I can get a better understanding of other religions, to strengthen my beliefs.

I couldn't continue feeling like something larger than us was out there, and not pursue it.
