The most I've had to pay for a late few was twenty bucks, but that's because I held onto it for like, a month or so.

He's a good man. That's a crap load of money, but still, good hearted ^^

That's awesome, in a very funny way. :] Still, it's cool that he brought the book back. <3

Wow. The most I've ever had to pay for late fees was $10, and that was a combination of about 10 overdue books.

I think I'd be too embarrassed to bring a book back after so many years. redface

Most people wouldn't return a book after that much time elapsed, so I think that he should have been rewarded for his citzenship by not having to pay the late fee.

He should have just forgot about it or something.
When I return a book to the library the librarian does not have to see you, you just put it in the box. So he should have done that and since they had no information about him and the book. He wouldn't of had to pay, unless its different in America.

I wonder how they came up with such a strange amount? At the library I work at, the maximum overdue fine for a book is $7.50. If the book is late for more than 2 months, the amount of the book is charged to the patron's account, usually $21 for a kids' book, but the patron no longer has to pay the late fees that accumulate. So the most he would have had to pay at my library, even if the book was checked out in 1960, would have been $21. Since the book came back, he would have only had to pay the $7.50 overdue fine. No interest accumulates.

Maybe our fines are lower than most?

Eugh, I never use the library, so I know this'll never happen to me at least!

I do still have a Mr. Majeika book I borrowed from my national school library about eight years ago. That'd cost me... €41.60 - about $60 I think -if I were to return it now. Which, after reading that inspirational story, I'm half tempted to do. 'Cept that my old primary school hasn't got a library no more... I'm sure they could do with the money though!

Being I have never had a late fee, I don't even know what the fee is at our library. Personaly, I would have returned the book; or, if it was a really good book, just say I lost it and paied.
